Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán in an interview with BILD

“It Was You Who Wanted The Migrants – Not Us”

By N. Blome, Ch. Stenzel and D. Biskup (photos)

He is controversial in Europe, but guest of honor in Bavaria, at the CSU convention in Seeon. Bild interview with the Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán (54).

Bild: Mr. Orbán, Social Democrat chief Martin Schulz demanded that the CSU chief Seehofer should put you in your place.

Viktor Orbán: I have always had great respect for Martin Schulz, because he is a good fighter. But to be amusing as a fighter, and to carry the responsibility for shaping the politics of a country are two different things. What was fine and nice in Brussels – where there are no visible consequences – is a different story than being the chief of a party in Germany and communicating with other countries. We think we deserve more respect.

“We do not want to be coerced”

Bild: For what?

Orbán: Hungary is one of the few stories of success of the last decade. Successful West, poor East – those times are over. 2010, when I went into office, the unemployment rate was 12 percent. Now, it is 4 percent. The economic growth is more than 4 percent, 2009 it still was minus 6 percent. The household deficit is notably lower than 3 percent. If you fairly assess us, we are doing quite well.

Bild: But that is not what the criticism was about. How fair is it, to be a member of the EU but not to stick by the rules? Hungary was supposed to accept only 1294 refugees. You refused, went to the European court, lost, called the verdict “a shame”, and still refused.

Orbán: More than 20 states did not adhere to the quota, yet, it is only we who are being criticized, this is a case of applying double standards. The fact is that the verdict only referred to the EU resolution that basically expired at the same time… there must be new discussions.

Bild: Would you, otherwise, have accepted the verdict and accepted the refugees?

Orbán: Yes. We stand on the basis of the rule of law.

Bild: But the EU is not only based on law, but also on solidarity. Why can Germany accept 2 million refugees, while Hungary can’t accept 2,000?

“Christian and Islamic society will never blend”

Orbán: The difference is: It was you who wanted the migrants. Not us. We do our job by protecting the Schengen outer border with Serbia. This has cost us about 1 billion Euros additionally since 2015, and Brussels is not paying a single cent for that. The solution to the problem certainly isn’t to distribute people, who reside in the EU illegally, across the whole EU territory. We think one should help where the problem lies, and not take immigration here.

Bild: Why don’t the Hungarians want refugees?

Orbán: We do not view these people as Muslim refugees. We view them as Islamic invaders. For example, in order to arrive in Hungary, from Syria, you have to cross four countries, all of them not as rich as Germany, but stable. So, already there, they aren’t running for their lives. This, too, proves that they are economic migrants, looking for a better life.

Bild: You say that you represent the will of the Hungarian people.

Orbán: I can only speak for the Hungarian people, and they don’t want migration. According to my understanding, it is not possible that the people have an opinion about such a profound topic, and the government refuses to act accordingly. We are talking about the sovereignty and the cultural identity of the country. We need to reserve the right to decide who can live on Hungarian territory.

Bild: No Muslims, apparently…

Orbán: We believe that a high number of Muslims necessarily leads to parallel societies, as Christian and Muslim society will never blend. Multiculturalism is just an illusion. We don’t want such a thing. And we don’t want to be coerced. Take Budapest as a positive example: a cosmopolitan melting pot without parallel societies.

Berlin Police: Diversity – A Cautionary Tale.

Meet the Vice Police Chief of Berlin, lawyer and former judge Margarete Koppers, who is responsible for turning the Berlin Police Academy Spandau into a hot mess by recruiting 36% migrant students (see This Is The Enemy In Our Own Ranks and Police Leadership Knew of Conditions At Academy).

We found this old interview in the gay city magazine “Siegessäule” from Berlin, and think it is pretty self explanatory. It is undated, but considering when Mrs. Koppers was appointed, we estimate it is from December 2012.

An original translation from Siegessäule Berlin (excerpts):

An Interview With Berlin’s Police Vice President
All Machos?
Margarete Koppers talks to Siegessäule about diversity, homophobia and her own coming-out

December 20 [no year given] – She almost became the Police President of Berlin. For one and a half years, Margarete Koppers led the Berlin police provisionally, then she applied for the position as chief. She is seen as an ambitious woman, calmly coordinating the office, and stepping forward against the Rambo image of the police. Late 2012, interior Senator Henkel finally appointed Klaus Kandt, an outsider, for the job, and Koppers remained vice president. Complaints about homophobia and transphobia fall into her responsibility, and she attends many community events. Siegessäule wanted to know what motivates Margarete Koppers and if her living in a lesbian partnership prevented her becoming chief.

Siegessäule: You champion diversity in the police Berlin. So what does that actually mean?
Margarete Koppers: Diversity means that all ethnic groups and all minorities that live in this city are represented in the police. And also, to give each minority the chance to participate in professional success.

What is the aim of the diversity-strategy?
The aim is that we develop different relations between each other within the office, but also outwards. The aim is not to focus on the repressive view, but to see ourselves, and to be seen as, part of society.

The aim should also be to avoid prejudiced investigations. When I look at the NSU murders, they didn’t investigate in this direction for a long time.
Exactly that is the learning curve. To accept people of different background, different religion, different sexual identities just as we accept the ‘majority society’, and that we don’t treat topics stereotypically.
(…)

Aren’t racism, sexism and homophobia a structural problem in our society? Why should that be different in the police Berlin?
You should define what you mean by structural. The way I understand it is that an authority has got structures that make such behaviour possible or even encourage and codify it. But our rules are exactly the opposite.

Is there training on these matters?
We have several modules in the training about this. From history lessons to attending events. We have just dedicated a memorial in front of the Berggruenmuseum. There used to be a police academy that became infamous during National Socialism. Additionally, we work together with NGOs like Maneo or the Federal Anti Discrimination Office, to address issues like racism and homophobia. There also are mandatory modules in further training, but the attendance depends on if the colleagues can get a release from duty.

Since last year, there is a dedicated contact for hate crimes and homophobic crimes in the Prosecution Berlin. Do gays and lesbians now increasingly turn to that contact?
I can only answer that question for the police contacts. We have good success with the gays, but it is more difficult with lesbians. My colleague who is responsible for that tells me that it is much more difficult to get the trust of women. There is a double obstacle, namely, as a woman, and a lesbian, to turn to the police, which is traditionally perceived as male-dominated and macho-like.

Can policemen and -women be openly gay and lesbian at the workplace?
I think that, depending on in which actual environment they work, there are prejudices. I know that many colleagues are open about their sexual identity, but I also know, and this also affects the leadership, that colleagues strictly differentiate between job and personal life. Secretiveness surely leads to more problems than openness.
(…)

What did you find tempting about the police authority? You used to be a judge, and then a research assistant at the Federal Constitutional Court. Then this change to a male club with esprit de corps and a strict hierarchy. Doesn’t sound all that attractive.
I have perceived the police differently in my career, because, as a criminal judge, I have always closely worked together with the police, and basically made positive experience. I didn’t think too much about the structures of the authority, I just knew it was a large authority with different challenges, closer to society. This, and the leading position, tempted me. I was surprised that the topic of women in leadership positions is still that acute, the media echo was enormous.

You applied for the position of the Police Chief of Berlin, unsuccessfully in the end. I guess the fact that you are a woman, and that you live in a lesbian partnership, did not exactly help, right?
You should ask the people who made the decision. I have my own thoughts about that, but I better keep them to myself.

What is your vision for the police Berlin?
It is important to me that we arrive in the middle of society, and that we do not isolate ourselves in our own structures, and that hierarchy won’t be that important anymore. I would like to see a citizen’s police after the dutch model.

Questions by Gudrun Fertig.

Translator’s note:
My issue here is: a police chief should be appointed their job because they would make a good police chief. Not because they wish to transform that authority into something else.

Sources tell us that Berlin is working on updating their emblem… 😉

And it should go without saying, but of course I have no grievances with a woman, or for that matter, a lesbian woman, being a police vice president. But no one should be appointed a job because they are a woman, or because they are a lesbian.

Berlin: Police Leadership Knew of Conditions at Academy

Berlin – another police officer has, anonymously, come forward, and confirmed an instructor’s allegations of intolerable conditions at the police academy Berlin Spandau, due to the high number of migrant students (see our original report from yesterday here).
Also, a newspaper has obtained an internal document from a Berlin police leadership meeting, which shows that the leadership long knew of the problems.

New urgent reminder after instructor’s complaint:

State Office of Criminal Investigations Officer: „Just a matter of time when first shot will be fired“

November 2., 2017
By Axel Lier

What police Berlin will have to expect as new colleagues in the future “pushes the imagination to the limit!” An officer of the State Office of Criminal investigations (Landeskriminalamt, LKA) has spoken out anonymously in the discussion about intolerable conditions at the Berlin police academy.

After the serious accusations against police students with migration background who are in training in Berlin-Spandau, now an, in his words, “concerned police officer of the state of Berlin” comes forward in an open letter to police president Klaus Kandt (B.Z. have obtained the document). Earlier, an instructor had lamented intolerable conditions at the police academy Spandau – here is the full text.

The LKA-officer now comes to the instructor’s defense – and raises serious allegations against the police leadership! They were downplaying grievances, as for example at the academy in Spandau. The officer detects infiltration of police and justice by Arab clans, and, in his open letter, describes problems with police students with migration background.

„Pushes The Imagination To The Limit!“

He were police officer since 1986 and had seen his fair share of things. He writes: „In my whole professional career, I only feared police officers twice. The first time was at an assignment ‚Ongling burglary suspected, perpetrator probably armed with gun‘. When we entered the house, a colleague behind me loaded his gun, but the familiar ‘ka-klick’ of the decocker was missing. He only decocked the gun, after I had drawn his attention to it. Now, I am worried again, but more than about hat colleague who might have shot me in the back in the chaos. Because that, what we have to expect as new colleagues in the future, pushes the imagination to the limit!”

Treating Female Officers Like Cleaning Women
Die Welt reports that the police leadership was aware of the allegations for quite some time. The newspaper cites an internal document from a leadership meeting which they obtained. The percentage of migrants at the academy were currently 30%. Part of the candidates for police service can’t swim, even though this were mandatory for recruitment. They were treating female officers like cleaning women, it says.

But the police leadership were denying any dialogue and downplaying the grievances, says the officer in his open letter: “If an instructor goes public anonymously, then only, because the dialogue with the leadership that they were asking for is non-existent!” The leadership were “watering down, downplaying, and talking down incidents” and were “shrouded in silence”.

„Police bends even antisocials into shape!“
The officer quotes the internal intranet of the police in his letter: “Without anticipating the results, he (Mister Kandt) is of the firm conviction that it is the job of the police academy to socialize the students in such a way that they will show discipline, politeness and respect in their interactions with each other, as well as with their superiors, and the people of the city.“

But, so the officer, the academy cannot socialize the students:

„Socialisation – this is what I was taught at exactly this faculty – of a human being takes place at two places: in his parents’ home – this should be the norm – or in a correctional facility. The faculty is dependant on people who are already versed in the rules of social interaction, as well as in the official language German, as it is required by legislation.“

The officer continues in drastic words: „This is how I translate your statement: ‚The police will bend into shape even antisocials!‘ No, it won’t. If this were the case, then there would be no need for the police!“

The LKA officer in his letter also admonishes the subversion of public service and justice: “Without doubt we can state that the subversion by Arab clans has already begun“.

He had doubts “that this still was the same police where I started more than 30 years ago.“

Besides, the anonymous officer criticizes that the police vice president Margarete Koppers were allegedly treating applicants from Arab clans notorious to the police too liberal, and that notorious lawyers of the milieu represent her .

„Tolerance comes to an end when female superiors aren’t respected anymore“
The officer condemns further grievances in the academy:

„When female superiors aren’t respected anymore, because they are women, when the students refuse swimming training, because ‘someone unclean’ might have been swimming in the pool, then tolerance and welcome culture and ‚Multikulti‘ come to an end!“

Such people should „be shown the door, because they haven’ grasped the basic rules of our democracy, they aren’t socialized in the spirit of our laws, and the citizen out there can’t expect any help from people like these.“

„Just a matter of time when first shots will be fired“
It were „just a matter of time when between two colleagues of rivalling ethnicities at the police first shots will be fired“, the police officer worries.

He did not want to give his name, because „I trust the police leadership less than the colleague with the not decocked gun in my back.“

He closes his letter „with collegial greetings“ as a „concerned police officer of the state of Berlin“.

Internal Document

Police Leadership Knew of the Problems At Police Academy

By Michael Behrend
It appears that the leadership of the Berlin police knew of the problems with police students with migration background.
This is what an internal paper suggests. It talks about „condescending treatment“ of women, and deficits in the professional ethos.
According to information that Die Welt have obtained, there is a climate of fear at the academy.
Why this is relevant:
The debate about grievances at the academy was started by an audio recording in which the complaints of instructor about Turkish and Arab police students can be heard.

It appears that the leadership of the police Berlin had been aware for quite some time of the escalating grievances at the academy. Die Welt have obtained an internal paper of a leadership discussion from August this year.

Accordingly, the police academy laments problems, „that developed due to the recruitment of officers with migration background (currently 30%)“. For example, part of the candidates can’t swim, even though this is mandatory for recruitment. Besides, a „condescending treatment of female officers, as if they were cleaning women“, is Additionally, candidates lacked professional ethos.

According to Welt information, there is a climate of fear at the academy. “There were teachers who wanted to meet representatives of the parties to talk about the grievances. But pressure was exerted on them”, a leading police officer of Berlin says.

The spokesman for inner politics of the FDP in Berlin, Marcel Luthe, says: „The police union organized a meeting with us and teachers. It was cancelled.“ The debate about grievances at the academy was started by an audio recording in which the complaints of instructor about Turkish and Arab police students can be heard.

Die Welt were first to report on this. Police president Klaus Kandt announced that he received the audio file last Friday. The sender of the file was identified, and there was a talk with him. He was criticized for not having turned to his employer.

Luthe said: „I do not now a single case that had a different outcome than denying the problem. The police academy is directly subject to the police president, the dramatic problems that repeatedly occur are his direct responsibility. The academy needs a police leader with experience in duty and in teaching at its top.“

Luthe demanded that the interior senate take action. „No matter which stone you turn around, terrorism, a 15 percent increase in crime since 2011, the lowest clearance rate, areas where there is open drug dealing, and now the police academy – the leadership of the police Berlin is a total failure. How much longer will the Interior Senator ask the Berliners to put up with this?“

The Catalan Caliphate

SPAIN – In view of the clashes in Catalonia, we have collected some background for you, shedding light on the Catalan government, and their role in making their region a stronghold of Salafist Islam.

An illegal street prayer in the Catalan city of Mollet in 2013

1. The Catalan Caliphate

By Thomas Eppinger

The attackers of Barcelona and Cambrils murdered at least 16 people – a 51-year old German succumbed to her injuries last week. Nothing is known about her identity. German victims seldom have names. 24 victims are still treated in hospitals, 5 of them are in critical condition.

It is hardly a coincidence that the gravest attack in Spain, since Madrid 2004, was carried out in the Catalan capital. Catalonia is a stronghold of political Islam, and for one single reason:

Because the Catalan separatists have extremely pushed the immigration of Muslims from Marocco and Pakistan over the last 30 years.

The central person of the Catalan independence movement is Jordi Pujol, from 1980 to 2003 president of the Generalitat de Catalunya, in other words the governor of Catalonia, and until 2003 the chair of the Party Convergència i Unió (CiU). There are a number of court cases ongoing against him and his 7 children for money laundering and corruption in the billions. The Catalan Convergència Democràtica de Catalunya (CDC), an alliance of Pujol’s CiU and the christian-democratic Unió Democràtica de Catalunya (UDC) was, from 1979 to 2003, in power without interruption.

During this whole time, the CDC pocketed 3% of the contracts they awarded from the companies that got the contract. Alone the Pujol clan moved at least 31 million Euro in cash over the past years to black accounts in Andorra.

Pujol made his fortune with corruption, but his greatest worry was the low birth rate in Catalonia. The shrinkage of „real“ Catalans was impossible to compensate for with immigrants from Murcia and Andalusia. When the economy started to flourish in the 1990s, the separatists worried that the new jobs would be taken by hundreds of thousands of Hispano-Americans. They thought that, as the Spanish-speaking Hispanics did not speak Catalan, they therefore would further the assimilation of the Catalan culture into the Spanish culture.

So a few particularly bright heads got the idea to bring predominantly Muslims from Morocco and Pakistan into the Country – if they need to learn a new language anyway, the government could make them learn Catalan.

The separatists hoped to get cohorts of cheap labor forces that way, which they could win for the separatist movement. Would a worker, who could only speak Catalan and Arabic, and depend on social benefits, be able to leave Catalonia?

Once arrived, Catalanism would surely turn the Muslims into Catalan nationalists. It’s alright as long as they just sing the Els Segadors, the Catalan national anthem, and wave the Estelada, the Catalan flag. And of course cheer for the FC Barcelona.

Then, Integration would just naturally occur by itself.

The consequences of this strategy are widely visible. The Muslim population grew to more than 500,000 – more than parties like the Partid Popular (PP), Podemos or Candidatura d’Unitat Popular (CUP) have voters. 2012, the second most common name in the province of Girona was Mohammed. In the region of Segarra (Lérida), 55% of the children born in 2014 had foreign mothers. The community of Salt (Girona), in which 12,000 of the 30,000 inhabitants are Muslims, became a „New Mecca of the radical Salafists“. The mayor of Salt said a few years ago in a radio interview, that the Muslim population were increasingly radicalizing:

„Just a few years ago, the women from Maghreb were rather Western-oriented, now you see increasingly less of that. The high number of Muslim inhabitants of Salt attracted Imams, who enforce the adherence to Islamic rules and dress codes. Back in the days, Muslim women usually wore jeans, now they cover their hair. These Imams do not encourage the living together.“

Source: www.mena-watch.com

Besides Salt, other towns too became centres of Salafist Islam in Spain. The movement has its seat in Tarragona, but has important branches in Badalona, Calafell, Cunit, El Vendrel, Gerona, Lleida, Mataró, Reus, Roda de Bara, Rubí, Santa Coloma de Gramenet, Sant Boi, Torredembarra, Valls, Vic and Vilanova. Barcelona alone has got 5 Salafist mosques. Just like elsewhere, the Salafists in Catalonia preach that the Sharia law is above Spanish law, they push the development of Muslim parallel societies, and have established sharia courts, that watch over the adherence to Islamic rules.

With the help of the separatists, Catalonia became one of the most important mediterranean centres of radical Islamists. On October 2., 2007, the US embassador to spain, Eduardo Aguirre, sent a 5-page telegraph to Washington. In this classified document, which was published in El País, Madrid, it says, among others:

„Strong immigration – legal as well as illegal – from Northern Africa (Morocco, Tunisia, and Algeria) and South-East Asia (Pakistan and Bangladesch) made Catalonia a magnet for terrorist recruitment… The Spanish police estimate there are in Barcelona and the near vicinity more than 60,000 Pakistani, who are in the majority male, unmarried or unaccompanied, and without a legal [residence] title. Even more such immigrants are from northern Africa. They live at the fringes of the Spanish society, they do not speak the language, often they are unemployed, and have just few places where they can practice their religion in dignity. Each one of these circumstances alone would make a fertile ground for recruitment as a terrorist, all of these together, the threat is obvious.

There is little doubt that the Autonomous Region Catalonia has become an operational basis for terrorist activities. The Spanish government tells us that they fear the threat from these small-cell immigrant societies, which are gullible to radicalization, but they have little means to infiltrate them by intelligence.“

The attacks of Barcelona and Cambrils were neither acts of nature, nor regrettable isolated cases. They did not come over the people without warning, and they weren’t inavoidable. The terror cell of Imam Es Satty was a consequence of faulty Immigration politics.

2. The Islamic Republic of Catalonia

by Soeren Kern, October 12, 2012

“We will all vote for the Islamic parties because we do not believe in left and right. This will make us win local councils, and as we begin to accumulate power in the Catalan autonomous region, Islam will begin to be implemented.” — Abdelwahab Houzi, Salafist preacher, Lleida.

A successful push for independence in the Spanish autonomous region of Catalonia would lead to the establishment of a country with the third-largest percentage of Muslims in Western Europe, just behind France and Belgium, and far ahead of Britain and Germany.

An independent Catalonia, with its capital in Barcelona, would also be home to the largest concentration of radical Islamists in Europe; it would emerge as ground-zero for Salafi-Jihadism on the continent and become one of the top incubators for Islamist terrorism in the West.

3. Catalonia to Muslims: Support Independence, Get Mega-Mosque

Qatar to Fund Third-Largest Mosque in the World
by Soeren Kern, August 7, 2014

Muslim leaders in the Spanish autonomous region of Catalonia say they have been promised a mega-mosque in Barcelona if they support independence from Spain in a referendum set for November 9.

Officials from the Catalonia’s ruling Convergence and Union Party (CiU) are seeking the ballots of all of the roughly 100,000 Muslims in the region who are eligible to vote. “If you support us in the referendum, there will be a mosque,” CiU officials are said to have promised Muslim leaders, according to Spanish media.

The mega-mosque in question is said to involve a 2.2 billion euro ($3 billion) project to convert a historic bullfighting stadium in Barcelona into the third-largest mosque in the world, after those in Mecca and Medina in Saudi Arabia.

The historic bullfighting stadium “La Monumental” in Barcelona may become the largest mosque outside of Saudi Arabia, under a tentative plan worked out between Catalan nationalists and the Emir or Qatar. (Image source: Sergi Larripa/Wikimedia Commons)

Hamburg – as the news magazine „Spiegel“ reports, quoting Intelligence findings, the members of the group Liwa Kwais al-Karni came to Germany as refugees. The unit initially fought on the side of the Free Syrian Army and then changed over to the Nusra Front which is close to Al-Qaeda.

According to the report, their members were involved in „several massacres of captive civilians and Syrian army“. Currently, there are investigations ongoing against 25 former fighters of the unit.

Authorities think that at least 30 more fighters of the group are residing in Germany. But many of them have not yet been identified with absolute certainty or traced down. According to information obtained by „Spiegel“, the Office For Protection Of The Constitution formed a task group on this issue.

FRANCE’S POLICE HAVE A PROBLEM WITH RADICAL MUSLIMS

An original translation by JLH with much thanks.

From this German News site

(Photo: Security forces in front of synagogue)

PARIS: The French police have a problem with Islamists in their ranks. In a confidential document from the Ministry of Public Security (Prefecture of Police) obtained by the newspaper Le Parisien, there is discussion of 17 cases of radicalization between 2012 and 2015.

According to that, officers on patrol heard widespread Muslim chanting. Also emphasized was the refusal to participate in a moment of silence for victims of terrorism. Further, Muslim police officers are said to have refused to guard synagogues.

ISLAMIC POLICEWOMAN MOCKED UNIFORM

In one instance, police became aware of a policewoman who called on Facebook for terrorism and then characterized her police uniform as “filthy rags of the republic” as she wiped her hands on it. Next, she returned from the toilet with a headscarf and justified her actions by noting that exhibitionism is forbidden.

Even though the number of such instances is small, they are of great concern to security forces, according to Le Parisien. Therefore, the police administration has decided to collect instances of offenses against secularism in a weekly paper.

YOUNG OFFICERS ESPECIALLY AFFECTED

Cases documented in the paper concern above all practice of the Muslim faith in regard to daily prayers and clothing. Most instances involve young officers who are in the lower ranks.

80% of Turkish Muslim Settlers in Germany Live off Welfare

Well. We all have to be good at something. Right?

Front Page Mag:

Turks came to Germany as ‘guest workers’. They were supposed to provide some “necessary cheap labor” and then leave. But it didn’t work out that way.

And the topic has obvious implications for our own Gang of 8?s guest worker plan, which is going to lead to non-workers bankrupting the social welfare system even further.

Three million Turks live already in Germany already, while 2.5 million of them have German nationality, and the majority of them are conservative Muslims.

Very few Turks in Germany have a regular job; about 20%. The other 80% live on the so-called Hartz IV (state social benefits). 70% of their children have no GCSE; they left school before they finished their basic education.

On National Liberation Day, Muslims ask for Release of Murderer

On National Liberation Day, 4 May, twenty radical Muslims of the Sharia4Belgium group demonstrated before the high security prison in Vught. They asked for the liberation of Mohammed Bouyeri, who was sentenced to life in prison for the cruel murder of mediamaker Theo van Gogh in 2004. They said that the Dutch were feasting while many innocent “brothers” are in jail. At the end of last year, the same group disrupted a debate about the modernization of Islam in Amsterdam.

Oklahoma Sharia law ban ‘unconstitutional’, court rules

Muneer Awad (left) (4 November 2010) Muneer Awad had argued that the amendment would affect every aspect of his life

The US state of Oklahoma has been prevented from introducing an amendment that would have barred its courts from considering Islamic law in judgements.

A federal court of appeals upheld a district judge’s decision to block the implementation of the amendment.

The ban on Islamic law was approved by 70% of voters in a referendum in 2010.

But it was challenged by a Muslim community leader who said the amendment violated his constitutional right to freedom of religion.

Muneer Awad, the head of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) in Oklahoma, had filed a suit saying that the amendment would affect every aspect of his life, including his will and testament.

‘Pre-emptive strike’The amendment read in part: “The courts shall not look to the legal precepts of other nations or cultures. Specifically, the courts shall not consider international law or Sharia law”.

The author of the amendment, Republican state representative Rex Duncan, had argued that it was not intended as an attack on Muslims, but was rather a “pre-emptive strike” preventing the application of Sharia law. Continue Reading →

Welcome to Tower Hamlets

From The New English Review:

H/T Snaphanen

by Esmerelda Weatherwax (September 2011)

Why I am going to Tower Hamlets on Saturday.

I am of an old East End family. We define the East End as the three old boroughs of Bethnal Green, Stepney and Poplar which since 1965 make up the current London Borough of Tower Hamlets, plus that area of Shoreditch around Shoreditch Church which since 1965 is part of the London Borough of Hackney. Although my mother was born in Hoxton (which is adjacent to, but not part of, the East End) where my grandfather had a market stall, her parents were born in Bethnal Green as were all of my father’s family. My cousins and I have traced many lines of our families back to the 18thcentury. We span 4 centuries and 10 generations in the area, at least. Welcome to my ancestoral homeland.

The East End encompassed London docks which meant that people have always arrived from all over the world and many settled nearby. Just in the relatively small circle of my own family history, through blood, marriage, kinship or family friendship I know of Irish, Welsh, Italian, Scottish, Jewish, Polish and Russian, French Huguenot, Indian, West Indian and Yorkshire. Every group that came to the East End brought their own customs. The Huguenot influence can be seen in our love of bright colours of clothing and the flowers of our little gardens, even if the only garden available was a yard or a veranda. The Jewish influence is famous and goes far beyond the food and the delicatessens (and bread). Limehouse was Chinatown for many years although it is now in Gerrard Street W1. They integrated while giving us the best of their culture. Until recent years.

Sylheti speaking seamen from the nation now called Bangladesh came through the docks even before the Second World War. During the war a mosque opened along Whitechapel Road for their use and that of other Muslims. From the late 1960s onwards more came and brought their families. But they didn’t integrate. The East London Mosque now covers the whole block between Plumbers Row and the Whitechapel Bell Foundry to the east, New Street to the west, Whitechapel Road to the north and Fieldgate Street to the south, other than the small and valiant Great Fieldgate Street Synagogue which the mosque covets but cannot have.

It isn’t the size of the Mosque complex (they are now building upwards, nine floors and counting) which is cause for concern, however, but the nature of their speakers and preachers, the malign influence of the Islamic Forum of Europe, the corruption of local politics and the imposition of Sharia law. The Telegraph Journalist Andrew Gilligan chronicles this regularly.

The following are a few the reasons why the English Defence League will be rallying in Tower Hamlets next week. The Home Secretary Theresa May, at the request of the Metropolitan Police, acting under the orders of the notorious Lutfur Rahman, the Mayor (for elected mayor, read Islamic dictator) has banned any march for a month through 5 London boroughs, Tower Hamlets, Newham, Waltham Forest, Hackney and Islington. So the demonstration will be a static one, which is our democratic right from which we cannot be banned.

Imposition of a Sharia controlled Zone.

I photographed these in Ford Square and nearby Sidney Street.

The treatment of Women

The hijab is near universal. The niqab is imposed on women in greater numbers than in Bangladesh itself.

In April a pharmacy assistant, not a Muslim and married to a Christian was threatened, as was the chemist shop where she worked under Hindu management, if she did not adopt a veil and Islamic dress code. “If she keeps working here and continues to dress like that, then we will boycott you because this is a Muslim area,” the chemist’s owner was told.

Advertising posters for swimming costumes have had burkas painted on to them. The same young man responsible for some of the anti gay stickers we spotted in October last year, about which more later, has also been convicted of criminal damage to advertising hoardings. But he is not alone.

The niqab is imposed as compulsory school uniform on girls as young as 11 at the Madani Islamic girls school in Mrydle Street behind the East London Mosque. I witnessed a young girl tearing off the face covering as she turned the corner of the road when I was there last year. At the time I thought she was waiting until she was out of sight of the mosque; I now suspect she was hurrying out of sight of her school.

I photographed these women entering and leaving the pupil’s gate of the school before the summer holiday began in July. Inset top left, the school address.

I can only conclude that this arrangement below which I photographed in Poplar in July is designed to allow the women of this ground floor flat to reach the veils and other garments just visible on the washing line at the far left above the curtains without having to don a previously laundered niqab before venturing into the sunshine.

These incidents do not stand alone. Others can be found by searching my blog articles going back to 2006.

Treatment of gays.

The most obvious example is the declaration, some months prior to the Sharia Controlled Zone, that Tower Hamlets is a “Gay Free Zone” My daughter spotted this sticker left at the Aldgate end of Whitechapel in October, and right in Sidney Street in August.

Who’s Afraid of the KKK?

Sergio Redegalli is someone we’ve met before.

His ‘Say No To Burkas’ mural provides endless cause for griping among the lefties where he lives, and he has had to repaint it dozens of times so far.

The definition of insanity is, of course, doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.

In Sergio’s case, those who object to his painting continue to deface it, and he – in defiance of them – simply repaints it.

They do the same thing, and get the same results.

With a few little changes now and then.

How about a black KKK outfit? Will that offend people? It shouldn’t. After all, it’s a complete body covering in black.

It’s the way someone may wish to present to the world, so who could possibly object?

I guess we’ll see on this one.

Stay tuned….

Mark Steyn: HOW UNCLEAN WAS MY VALLEY

Here is the first part of Mark Steyn’s article on the Toronto publicly funded, Islamicly correct, Mosqueteria at Valley Park Middle school.. As usual, Mr. Steyn is insightful, witty, and makes important points that deserve to be factored in on any actual policies on these issues.

Steyn on Culture Wednesday, 13 July 2011

Take a look at this photograph. It appeared in The Toronto Star’s education section on Saturday:

Image

It’s the scene every Friday at the cafeteria of Valley Park Middle School in Toronto. That’s not a private academy, it’s a public school funded by taxpayers. And yet, oddly enough, what’s going on is a prayer service – oh, relax, it’s not Anglican or anything improper like that; it’s Muslim Friday prayers, and the Toronto District School Board says don’t worry, it’s just for convenience: They put the cafeteria at the local imams’ disposal because otherwise the kids would have to troop off to the local mosque and then they’d be late for Lesbian History class or whatever subject is scheduled for Friday afternoon.

The picture is taken from the back of the cafeteria. In the distance are the boys. They’re male, so they get to sit up front at prayers. Behind them are the girls. They’re female, so they have to sit behind the boys because they’re second-class citizens – not in the whole of Canada, not formally, not yet, but in the cafeteria of a middle school run by the Toronto District School Board they most certainly are.

And the third row? The ones with their backs to us in the foreground of the picture? Well, let the Star’s caption writer explain:

At Valley Park Middle School, Muslim students participate in the Friday prayer service. Menstruating girls, at the very back, do not take part.

Oh. As Kathy Shaidle says:

Yep, that’s part of the caption of the Toronto Star photo.

Yes, the country is Canada and the year is 2011.

Just so. Not some exotic photojournalism essay from an upcountry village in Krappistan. But a typical Friday at a middle school in the largest city in Canada. I forget which brand of tampon used to advertise itself with the pitch “Now with new [whatever] you can go horse-riding, water-ski-ing, ballet dancing, whatever you want to do”, but perhaps they can just add the tag: “But not participate in Friday prayers at an Ontario public school.”

Some Canadians will look at this picture and react as Miss Shaidle did, or Tasha Kheiriddin in The National Post:

Is this the Middle Ages? Have I stumbled into a time warp, where “unclean” women must be prevented from “defiling” other persons? It’s bad enough that the girls at Valley Park have to enter the cafeteria from the back, while the boys enter from the front, but does the entire school have the right to know they are menstruating?

But a lot of Canadians will glance at the picture and think, “Aw, diversity, ain’t it a beautiful thing?” – no different from the Sikh Mountie in Prince William’s escort. And even if they read the caption and get to the bit about a Toronto public school separating menstruating girls from the rest of the student body and feel their multiculti pieties wobbling just a bit, they can no longer quite articulate on what basis they’re supposed to object to it. Indeed, thanks to the likes of Ontario “Human Rights” Commission chief commissar Barbara Hall, the very words in which they might object to it have been all but criminalized.
