Food poisoning plot at U.S. military base might be linked to wider network

CANADAFREEPRESS… Reports are emerging that up to five Muslim Arabic translators who are part of an Arabic translation program identified as “09 Lima” at the Fort Jackson, SC U.S. Military training facility were questioned and detained last December regarding a plan to poison the food supply at the military base.  The program consists of individuals whose “first” language is Arabic. They are categorized, according to the U.S. Army Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) code, as translators/interpreters.

News reports cite Chris Grey, a spokesman for the Army’s Criminal Investigation Division (CID), speaking to Fox News and local affiliates that the investigation began two months ago although so far, “there is no credible information to support the allegations.”
According to a military source at the installation speaking to this investigator on the condition of anonymity due to the sensitive and ongoing nature of this investigation, however, paints a somewhat different picture. According to this source, “hints of an alleged plot to poison the food supply at the military installation was uncovered during the course of another, unrelated investigation into the disappearance of five Washington, DC area Muslims who went missing in late November, and who are believed to have traveled abroad for Islamic jihad training.”
Initially, one of the Arabic translators at Fort Jackson was believed to have been in contact with at least one of the five missing Muslim students. The investigation developed from there, and ‘some level of communication’ was discovered to suggest a plan to poison the food supply at the base. Although never put into action, the investigation widened as it appeared to involve at last three to four additional Arabic translators, all Muslims specifically recruited for the army’s translation program,” stated this source.

This source added that while the plan “was discovered at it’s most early stages, it is still a matter of grave concern”.

News of the alleged plot comes on the heels an extensive reports of Islamic jihad infiltration in American prison and military installations.

Wafa Sultan, Allen West and others speaks at Pam Gellers counter jihad event.

Here are some important speeches about the current world leadership and it’s relationship with Islam. Really, make the time anyway you can to watch these videos. For those familiar with Wafa Sultan, then at least watch videos #2 and #3, #2 being a recently retired military intelligence officer who ran afoul of his political masters for saying that Muslim terrorists are following orthodox Muslim doctrine and explained how to know who is going to commit a terrorist act such as Maj. Hasan at Fort Hood. It is a fantastic speech as is Allen West’s #3. Take or make the time and watch. Big thanks to Pam Geller at Atlas and Robert Spencer and all who participated in this event to make it happen. Readers of Vlad, please send this link out or the link at atlas to as many as you can. Perhaps as more people see and hear more and more credible people ‘coming out’ (as the former CIA man said) then the political will to act may grow.

Erick Stakelbeck: Five Muslim Soldiers Arrested at Fort Jackson in South Carolina

CBN Exclusive: Five Muslim Soldiers Arrested at Fort Jackson in South Carolina

CBN News has learned exclusively that five Muslim soldiers at Fort Jackson in South Carolina were arrested just before Christmas. It is unclear whether the men are still in custody. The five were part of the Arabic Translation program at the base.

The men are suspected of trying to poison the food supply at Fort Jackson.

A source with intimate knowledge of the investigation, which is ongoing, told CBN News investigators suspect the “Fort Jackson Five” may have been in contact with the group of five Washington, DC area Muslims that traveled to Pakistan to wage jihad against U.S. troops in December. That group was arrested by Pakistani authorities, also just before Christmas.

Coming as it does on the heels of November’s Fort Hood jihadist massacre, this news has major implications.

Army Investigates Alleged Attempt by Soldiers to Poison Food at Fort Jackson

Thursday, February 18, 2010

The U.S. Army is investigating allegations that soldiers were attempting to poison the food supply at Fort Jackson in South Carolina.

The ongoing probe began two months ago, Chris Grey, a spokesman for the Army’s Criminal Investigation Division, told Fox News.

The Army is taking the allegations “extremely seriously,” Grey said, but so far, “there is no credible information to support the allegations.”

Five suspects, detained in December, were part of an Arabic translation program called “09 Lima” and use Arabic as their first language, two sources told Fox News. Another military source said they were Muslim. It wasn’t clear whether they were still being held.

Grey would not confirm or deny the sources’ information.

Small aircraft slams into building in Texas

From Stratfor:

February 18, 2010
A small plane has crashed into a building in Austin, Texas, adjacent to FBI offices, News 8 Austin reported Feb. 18, citing Texas Department of Transportation cameras in the area and citizen reports. Cameras show smoke and fire coming from the building, located in the 9400 block of Research Boulevard.

AUSTIN — A small single-engine airplane has crashed into an office complex in North Austin, reports say.

The seven-story office building, described as the Echelon building, is in the 9400 block of Research Boulevard, according to Austin fire officials. The site is near U.S. 183 and MoPac.

The FBI said there is nothing at this point that indicates that the crash is anything more than an accident at this time.

Initial reports were that the Austin field office of the San Antonio FBI were in the building, but it was later learned that the FBI offices are in a nearby building.

The nearest airport is Austin Bergstrom International Airport, which is some 15 miles away, in southeast Austin, and the crash site is reportedly on the flight path for that airport.

The Austin American-Statesman is offering live streaming video of the plane crash via traffic camera: here.

Austin-Travis County EMS Assistant Director James Shamard told the Statesman that smoke is visible for at least a mile.

The Statesman reported that two people were unaccounted for.

From Stratfor: Update

February 18, 2010
More information is emerging about the plane crash in Austin, Texas, on Feb. 18. According to local TV station KVUE, the single-engine Piper 150 Cherokee crashed into the St. Edwards professional Education Center building. EMS officials said the building is seven stories tall and that two people are unaccounted for. Paramedics have set up a triage center at the scene. Local media cited a witness saying he saw a small plane flying very low over the highway. The witness said he saw the plane bank heavily to the right before crashing into the building. STRATFOR witnesses say the building is still on fire and have not seen any plane wreckage.

Thursday, February 18, 2010

A small single-engine plane crashed into a seven-story office building in Austin, Texas, around 10 a.m. local time Thursday.

An NTSB official told Fox News that they are investigating this as an intentional act, and said it appears the pilot set his own house on fire and then got in his plane and flew it into the building. An NTSB spokesman, however, told FoxNews.com that “we can’t confirm any of that.”

Authorities said they have identified the pilot, but are not yet releasing the name.

An Internal Revenue Service office is located inside the building.

IRS Agent William Winnie said he was on the third floor of the building when he saw a light-colored, single engine plane coming towards the building, TheStatesman.com reported.

“It looked like it was coming right in my window,” Winnie said, according to the Web sit.

Winnie said the plane veered down and smashed into the lower floors. “I didn’t lose my footing, but it was enough to knock people who were sitting to the floor.”

SLIDESHOW: Small Plane Crashes Into Austin Office Building

The Austin American-Statesman newspaper reported on its Web site that EMS officials have taken two patients to the hospital, and that there are several “walking wounded” at the scene. Paramedics have set up a triage center at the scene.

Harry Evans, an assistant chief with the Austin Fire Department, said one person from the building was unaccounted for.

“There may be other injuries, we are unsure at this time,” Evans said during a news conference Thursday.

Heavy smoke could be seen coming from the building at 9420 Research Boulevard. Several local witnesses on Twitter reported seeing flames coming out of the building and lots of broken glass.

Dozens of fire trucks were on scene and the building was evacuated.

Early reports that the building housed the FBI field office in Austin later turned out not to be true. An FBI spokesman told Fox News that the FBI office in Austin is near where the plane crashed, but not in the same building. There are some federal offices in the building, though authorities couldn’t identify which ones.

The FBI spokesman also told Fox News that as of 10:30 a.m. local time. there was nothing to indicate that this targeted the FBI or that the crash was terrorism-related.

“The building lies along a flight path,” the spokesman said, so right now it looks like an “accident.”

KXAN is reporting that emergency crews are on the scene, and two people are still unaccounted for, according to fire officials. The station also reported that the collision shook the entire building, and the entire front of the structure is gone.

People use the word ‘Orwellian’ but how many think its a good idea?

From The International Free Press Society:

H/T Diana West:

The tyranny of liberalism goes where no liberal has gone before. Amnation.com

The Lower Merion School District outside Philadelphia issued webcam-equipped laptop computers to the 1,800 pupils in the district’s two high schools, in order to encourage “ongoing collaboration” and to ensure that “all students have 24/7 access to school-based resources and the ability to seamlessly work on projects and research at school and at home.” Unknown to the pupils and their parents, the webcams could be activated by the school district to view whatever was in front of the webcam in the student’s home.

High school student Blake Robbins and his parents found out about the hidden capability when the assistant principal of Blake’s high school informed him that the school district believed that he “was engaged in improper behavior in his home,” and cited as evidence a photograph from the webcam embedded in Blake’s laptop.

According to the story posted at America’s Right:

It was only then that Blake Robbins’ father, Michael, verified from Assistant Principal Lindy Matsko that the school district did in fact have the capability of remotely activating the cameras embedded in the district-issued laptop computer wherever the computer may be situated and regardless of whether the student is using it, and that the school district could at any time choose “to view and capture whatever images were in front of the webcam, all without the knowledge, permission or authorization of any persons then and there using the laptop computer.” Continue Reading →

Group urges Muslims to avoid body scans

An Islamic group is telling travellers to U.S. to opt for pat-downs instead

CBCNEWS… An Islamic group is urging Muslim travellers to choose to be patted down by airport security rather than go through airport body scanners, a practice that it says violate religious and privacy rights. Someone needs to tell the Muslims that being able to board a plane is not a right.

The Fiqh Council of North America (FCNA) said the scanners, which produce a three-dimensional outline of a person’s naked body, are “against the teachings of Islam, natural law and all religions and cultures that stand for decency and modesty.” The Saudi butt bomb presents a different picture of Islamic decency and modesty.

“It is a violation of clear Islamic teachings that men or women be seen naked by other men and women,” the group said in a statement last week.

“The Qur’an has commanded the believers, both men and women, to cover their private parts. Human beings are urged to be modest in their dress,” the group said.  And Muslims are urged not to cover their private parts with bombs.

The Council on American-Islamic Relations also issued a statement of support of the FCNA’s recommendation.

The United States began using the scanners capable of detecting items hidden underneath clothing at airports as part of new security protocols put in place in the wake of the failed bombing attempt on a Detroit-bound flight on Christmas Day. Continue Reading →

U.S.: U.K. Flight Denied Entry
February 15, 2010
British Airways Flight 243 was denied entry into U.S. airspace because of a “data discrepancy” about a 55-year-old American passenger in what may have been the first time a British flight was denied access to American airspace, the Telegraph reported Feb. 15, officials said. The Boeing 747, with 318 passengers and crew, had been flying over the Atlantic for two hours when the discrepancy was spotted. Upon the return to London, the man and his luggage were searched, then he was handed over to immigration officials. It was not known if he was later released.

February 15, 2010
Dubai Police Chief Dahi Khalfan Tamim said Feb. 15 that arrest warrants were being issued for 11 Europeans allegedly involved in the killing of senior Hamas official Mahmoud al-Mabhouh, Reuters reported. Tamim said police already have arrested two Palestinians suspected of providing logistical support for the killing and that officials are not ruling out the possibility of involvement by Israel.

Bolton: Obama ‘Crippled’ By Desire to Negotiate With Iran

From Fox News

This is a rush transcript from “Hannity,” February 11, 2010. This copy may not be in its final form and may be updated.

SEAN HANNITY, HOST: Today was the day that Iran said it would punch the west in a way that would leave it stunned.

And earlier, President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad marked the 31st anniversary of the Iranian Revolution by announcing to the world that his country is now a, quote, nuclear state. Now, he said Iran has already produced a significant amount of enriched uranium, which is the material that could be used to manufacture a bomb.

Now meanwhile, violence broke out on the streets of Tehran as protesters also marked today’s anniversary, and there are even reports that the wife of the opposition leader, Mir Hossein Mousavi, was brutally beaten during one of the demonstrations.

So after more than a year in office has the Obama administration’s so-called smart power approach to diplomacy made us any safer? And what about our allies in Israel?

Joining me now with reaction to the latest threat from Iran is the former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations John Bolton.

Ambassador, good to see you. Thanks for being with us.

JOHN BOLTON, FORMER U.S. AMBASSADOR TO U.N.: Good to be here.

HANNITY: Once again, we’ve got people on the streets of Tehran, freedom fighters. I’ve yet to hear the administration speak out on their behalf. Is that a big mistake?

BOLTON: Well, I wouldn’t hold my breath for that, either. I think what we see today is Ahmadinejad very confident, very determined, making his message about the Iranian nuclear weapons program clear.

And also, by his control over the streets of Tehran and other major cities, making clear this regime intends to stay in power.

I think Obama is crippled by his desire to negotiate with Iran. He doesn’t want to do or say anything that gets in the way of that, and that leaves the demonstrators, who are very powerfully opposed to the regime in Tehran, essentially without any outside help… Read More.

Biden: Al Queda changing tactics

February 11, 2010
U.S. Vice President Joe Biden said al Qaeda was moving toward smaller but “devastatingly frightening” attacks, adding that the chance of another 9/11-style mass assault is unlikely, Reuters reported Feb. 11. Biden also said the situation in Pakistan worried him more than that of Iraq, Iran and Afghanistan, stating that it is a big country with nuclear weapons and a significant minority of radicalized population. He added that Pakistan does not have a completely functional democracy, making it his greatest concern. Biden said the concern relates to someone just strapping a backpack on them with weapons and blowing up.?

‘Students’ disrupt Israeli embasador

The “Tolerance” of Radical Islam

by Guy Rodgers, Executive Director

Muslims in America and throughout the world regularly lecture us about how we are not sufficiently “tolerant” of Islam.

Students of the threat of radical Islam know how offensively hypocritical this is. America bends over backwards to be tolerant, so much so that “tolerance” has evolved into a corrosive political correctness which created the climate of military silence that led to the jihadist massacre at Ft. Hood.

Meanwhile, the “tolerance” of Islam is on display in Saudi Arabia, where a Christian can’t publicly carry a Bible and a Jew can’t wear a Star of David.

It’s on display in this video, shot at the University of California/Irvine, where radical Muslims and their sympathizers repeatedly shouted down a speaker at a public event. If you want to see the ugly face of the “tolerance” of radical Islam right here in America, click here.

Brigitte Gabriel knows all about this so-called “tolerance,” and if you’ve read her best-selling book Because They Hate you know her story.

For me, this so-called “tolerance” recently struck very close to home.

That’s when a good friend of our family, a pastor, was arrested in a Muslim-majority African country. (I am not revealing the pastor’s name or the country to protect his identity.)

The pastor was invited to speak at a small home meeting, a group of about 20 people, including children.

During the meeting, over 60 military police descended on this small group that somehow posed such a fearsome “threat” to the peace and well-being of the country!

The pastor’s Bible and personal effects were confiscated. Fortunately for him, his punishment was deportation. It could have been much, much worse.

The militant intolerance of radical Islam that dominates the Muslim world is not a relic of some ancient past. It is the reality of every nation where Muslims enjoy either a majority or a substantial minority of the population. Even countries characterized as more tolerant, such as Turkey, are rife with examples of this intolerance.

This intolerance is taking root in America. The UC/Irvine video is not an isolated case. Perhaps you recall the protestors in January, 2009, shouting at Jews on the streets of Florida “go back to the ovens” and “die, die, die!”

We must win the war against Islamic terrorism. But we must also win the war for the preservation of America’s values of freedom and our cherished right of free speech.

For the tolerance of evil is not tolerance. As Lee Harris notes in his book The Suicide of Reason, the tolerance of militant Islamist intolerance is cultural suicide.

Mark Steyn: Bananas over Bush

I’m sorry but as a long time opponent of government grants to the arts in Canada this story had me imitating that awful Norwegian painting for several seconds. Come to think of it, I wonder if Edvard did this painting cause he was turned down for a fat government grant.

Bananas Over Bush   [Mark Steyn]

News from the art world:

An Argentine artist called Caesar Saëz applied to the Canada Arts Council and le Conseil des Arts et des Lettres du Québec and was given, between the two bodies, a grant of $130,000 to create a 300-metre long flying banana that would float over Texas protesting the policies of George W. Bush.

Why Canadian taxpayers are subsidizing Argentine artists to violate U.S. airspace is a topic best left to the next Summit of the Americas.

The good news is that Señor Saëz cashed the check and skipped the country. So the banana’s whereabouts are unknown. French-speaking readers will enjoy this radio interview: “Une subvention de 128 000$ pour faire voler une banane géante au-dessus du Texas.” I particularly like the arts bureaucrats’ insistence that there’s nothing to see here (literally): The granting of public monies for the purpose of producing a particular work of art imposes no obligation upon the artist to produce the work of art. Although the artist was quite specific about the construction of the giant anti-Bush banana (a bamboo structure covered in Tyvek), he never specifically promised to make it. Therefore, its non-existence is not an issue: In taking the dough and scramming town, the artist is in full compliance with the terms of his grant.

And, as I’m sure most contemporary art scholars would assure us, the non-existing work of art becomes paradoxically a work of “performance art” (or non-performance non-art) in its own right. Failing that, he could always claim it floated off over New Mexico with a five-year-old boy inside it.

Muslim chaplain ‘smuggled’ box-cutter blades into jail

A city Department of Correction Muslim chaplain who served 14 years in prison for murder and robbery was arrested today for carrying three utility blades and a pair of scissors into a lower Manhattan jail, authorities said.

The chaplain, Zulqarnain Abdu-Shahid, had the utility blades and scissors in his duffel bag when he arrived at the Manhattan Detention Complex in the morning, according to the city Department of Investigation.

The dangerous items were found after an X-ray machine alerted correction officers to the presence of metal in the bag, the DOI said.

Authorities did not say why Abdu-Shahid was visiting the jail, commonly known as the Tombs, or why he was carrying the scissors and the rectangular blades, which were 1-and-1/2 inches long by three-quarters of an inch wide.

Abdu-Shahid, 58, was arrested at the scene and charged with four counts of first-degree promoting prison contraband — a felony carrying a maximum 7-year prison term — and four counts of the same charge in the second degree, a misdemeanor.

The Staten Island resident, who is married with three children, was ordered held in lieu of $30,000 bail during a hearing in Manhattan Criminal Court last night, where he appeared in a long robe and navy blue skull cap.

His lawyer, James McQueeney said the blades were ‘injector razor blades from an injector razor,” and that when Abdu-Shahid told that to the correction officers who stopped him, “his explanation that he didn’t know there were there [in the duffel bag] was accepted.”

“He was allowed into the” Tombs after the blades were confiscated,” McQueeney said. “Only later were questions raised about this.”

Despite that claim, DOI Commissioner Rose Gil Hearn said, “This arrest demonstrates the serious consequences of bringing in contraband to the city’s correctional facilities.” Continue Reading →
