Muslims involved in murder of 10 Christians and burning of Churches acquitted

Lahore (AsiaNews) – Pakistan’s fundamentalists are rejoicing following the acquittal verdict. The country’s Christian minority is “under shock” because, this time as well, the massacre of innocent victims done in the name of the infamous blasphemy law will go unpunished. The justice system also shows its powerlessness vis-à-vis extremists who can carry out heinous crimes with total impunity, whilst the government remains silent. Meanwhile, a Muslim religious leader publicly says that Christians “deserve” to be murdered.

No one would be getting off with a few months in jail, minus time served. Of course, Indonesia has been downplaying the role of Islamic supremacism in this attack since the beginning, with a police chief insisting the attacks “had nothing to do with religion,” even though the rioters went on a rampage in the first place because they wanted a death sentence for “blasphemy” against Islam. And in that case, the defendant, while he was described as being of a Christian background, had insulted Catholics as well as Muslims. Only the latter group responded in this way.

Bombs found near Indonesia church; 19 arrested

Terror suspects arrested Thursday led police to five massive bombs buried beneath a gas pipeline near a church just outside Indonesia’s capital, officials said.

Djoko Suyanto, a security minister, said he believed Islamic militants had been plotting an attack ahead of Easter celebrations. The U.S. embassy urged Americans to be vigilant.

The explosives, safely defused at the scene, had been set to detonate by cell phone at around 9 a.m. Friday.

“The army and police are under high alert,” Suyanto told reporters, adding that troops would be deployed at churches and other strategic locations. “We want to guarantee safety.”

Indonesia, the world’s most populous Muslim nation, has been battling extremists since 2002 when al-Qaida-linked militants attacked two nightclubs on Bali island, killing 202 people, many of them foreign tourists.

Several attacks since then targeted glitzy hotels, restaurants and an embassy, killing another 60. Hundreds of suspects have been arrested, convicted and thrown in jail.

In recent months, small bands of militants hoping to turn the secular nation of 237 million into an Islamic state have shifted their focus to local “enemies.”

Indonesia: Most of Jakarta police force to protect churches from terror during Easter

Yet there are no plans to provide this kind of security around mosques during Eid. This is blatant Islamophobia at it’s worst.

(AKI/Jakarta Post) – Jakarta Police plans to deploy at least 20,000 officers to safeguard the Indonesian capital over the Easter holiday period, which begins this Friday.

Jakarta Police operational bureau head Sr. Comr. Sujarno said around two-thirds of the police force would be involved in the operation.

“We will deploy officers to churches and other vital objects,” Sujarno said.

Sujarno added that the deployment would be based on jurisdictions, because officers had better knowledge about their respective areas of operation.

“Every subdistrict police office will be responsible for the security of each subdistrict,” he said.

Until now, the police had found no indications of terrorism, Sujarno said, but urged residents to remain alert. Jakarta Police operational bureau head Sr. Comr. Sujarno said around two-thirds of the police force would be involved in the operation.

“We will deploy officers to churches and other vital objects,” Sujarno said.

Sujarno added that the deployment would be based on jurisdictions, because officers had better knowledge about their respective areas of operation.

Muslim population in Western Europe rising

IB NEWS… The population of Muslims in Western Europe has been steadily rising in recent decades, largely due to immigration from the Middle East, South Asia and North Africa.

In Southeastern Europe, much of which once formed part of the Ottoman Empire, Muslims have been present for many centuries, but they are a relatively new phenomenon in the western part of the continent.

On the whole, Muslim’s represent about 5 percent of the population of the EU 27.

Far-right politicians in Europe have long warned that the Muslim numbers will continue to grow due to higher birth rates. Marine Le Pen, the head of France’s anti-immigrant National Front party, who openly discusses the rising number Muslims in France, could conceivably win next year’s presidential election, according to polls.

While the percentage of Muslims as part of the overall population of western European nations are in single digits, a 2009 study by the Telegraph newspaper in the UK estimated that by 2050, Muslims will account for 20 percent of the European Union’s populace. Malaysia clerics ban ‘poco-poco’ dance for Muslims

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia (AP) — Islamic clerics in a Malaysian state want Muslims to avoid a popular dance they claim has Christian influences.

The “poco-poco” is a line dance that is common at social events in Muslim-majority Malaysia. It is widely thought to have originated in Indonesia.

Islamic scholars in Malaysia’s Perak state say they believe the “poco-poco” is traditionally a Christian dance and that its steps make the sign of the cross.

State cleric Harussani Idris Zakaria said Friday the scholars have issued an edict forbidding the dance. It is not clear if other states will ban it.

Some Muslims insist the ban is unnecessary. Malaysian clerics have also banned yoga for Muslims and barred girls from behaving like tomboys, but the edicts are not legally binding.

Australia warns Bali bomb arrest could spark attacks

SYDNEY (AFP) – Australia warned the arrest in Pakistan of an alleged mastermind of the 2002 Bali bombings could spark revenge attacks against Westerners in Indonesia, and cautioned nationals against going there.

Officials announced on Wednesday that a man thought to be Umar Patek, one of the most wanted Islamic extremists in Southeast Asia, was in Pakistani custody.

Patek, who had a $1 million bounty on his head, was the alleged field coordinator for the massive Bali nightclub attacks that killed more than 200 people, almost 90 of them Australians.

In updated advice, Australia’s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade said on its website that Australians should reconsider travel to Indonesia, particularly Bali.

“Information in March 2011 indicates that terrorists may be planning attacks in Indonesia, which could take place at any time,” it said, without specifying what the new information was or where it came from.

But the travel advice alluded to Patek’s arrest, which it said “may increase the risk of violent responses in Indonesia in the short term”. Continue Reading →

Christmas Comes Early To The Island.

A bit of background:

Way, way off the north-west coast of Australia, closer to Indonesia than Oz, lies a little itty bitty speck called Christmas Island. It used to be considered Australian Territory on a par with the mainland until the “asylum seekers” and their enablers, the people smugglers and refugee activists, realised that if you got to Christmas Island and claimed asylum, you’d be afforded all the legal and other comforts you could ever want without having to get all the way over here.

So a detention centre was built there, to process claims, which was difficult because somehow, these “refugees” could make it to Indonesia from Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan, Pakistan and so on, and get onto a boat, yet still not have any papers that would identify them.

This detention centre wasn’t built to house more than around 600 or so people.

Under John Howard, aka the Evil Right Wing War Monger (the last conservative Prime Minister), regulations were toughened up and an exclusion zone was devised. So now you could get to Christmas Island, but you didn’t automatically get Legal Aid or instant acceptance. Also introduced were Temporary Protection Visas, which did not give you all of the rights and benefits of a full Refugee Visa.

When John Howard was voted out in 2007, Kevin Rudd of the Australian Labor Party became PM, and as a part of his platform, he promised to loosen up the harsh regime that Howard had instigated.

Bolta’s graph outlines how since the laws have been loosened, there has been an exponential increase in boats arriving carrying illegal immigrants (or asylum seekers if you prefer).

There are currently over 2000 of these people on Christmas Island (with several thousand more on the mainland in detention centres and four-star motels), from several different nationalities.

If you spend enough time at Aussie blogs, you might come across a rare sighting of a commenter by name of The Frollicking Mole. The Mole has worked in the detention centres, and has had his say about it.

The Labor government’s enabling of more people seeking to gain entry to Australia and the benefits that accrue upon acceptance as a refugee has led to the current rioting.

Especially since detainees are now being flown to the mainland to protect them from the violence.

Once on the mainland, they’ll be pretty much right.

Not sure about the rest of us, though.

Bomb explodes at Indonesian Islamic group HQ: police

JAKARTA, Indonesia (UPDATE) – A bomb exploded at the office of a moderate Islamic group in the Indonesian capital Jakarta on Tuesday, injuring four people including a policeman, police and a witness said.

The device was in a package sent to the office of the Liberal Islam Network, a grouping of religious intellectuals, in East Jakarta, national police spokesman Boy Rafli Amar told reporters.

“We suspected that it was a bomb. Our officers were trying to tame it when it went off,” he said, adding that the police are investigating the motive.

A witness told local television station MetroTV that the package was addressed to the group’s former director and liberal Muslim scholar Ulil Abshar Abdalla.

“Our office received a suspicious package containing cables with a strong smell. We called the police,” Fia Anwar said.

“As the police were checking the package, it exploded. Four people were injured, including a policeman and our security guards,” she added.

“I saw clearly that a policeman’s hand was cut off and our security guards had shrapnel wounds,” she said.

Religion has been under the spotlight in recent weeks in Indonesia, the world’s most populous Muslim country, after some provincial administrations issued a local decree which banned members of the Islamic Ahmadiyah sect from showing signs identifying their mosques and schools.

The provincial regulations came after Islamist fanatics brutally murdered last month three Ahmadiyah adherents. Two days later another mob of enraged Muslims rampaged through the streets and set fire to churches. Continue Reading →

Youtube pulled this video and rightfully so perhaps, it is extremely harsh. But it needs to be available somewhere as this does show Islam acting as Koran demands. I suggest no one watch this unless they really do not believe that Muslims do this for religious reasons or not in Indonesia. Really, this is harsh.

Jakarta (AsiaNews) – Members of civil society, religious leaders and personalities from the moderate Islamic world strongly condemn the attack that took place yesterday against the Ahmadi community in Indonesia, which has caused death and devastation. The controversy has also embroiled President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and the executive, unable to guarantee the safety of all citizens and freedom of worship in the country. The head of state warned that the violence against minorities “in the name of religion” must be stopped, despite his appeal, there is increasing lack of confidence in his abilities.

The latest in a long streak of blood against the Ahmadi community – a victim of violence in other Muslim-majority nations such as Pakistan – took place yesterday morning. A crowd of at least 1500 Muslim extremists attacked the house of a family in the village of Umbulan, in the Cikeusik sub-district, Pandeglang regency (Banten province on the island of Java), torturing the occupants. The toll of the assault is three dead, several injured people, two cars and a house burned.

The episode has raised controversy and fuelled the political confrontation that, in recent weeks, has involved the Indonesian president, unable to guarantee security and the right to religious freedom. Daniel Sparingga, a spokesman for Yudhoyono, revealed that an order has been issued by the President to the Chief of Police, calling for an end to violence. “Enough is enough – said the head of state – violence and attacks against any minority, made in the name of religion, must be stopped.”

However, members of civil society and moderate Muslim leaders – condemning the attack – have denounced the lack of interest shown to date by Yudhoyono, unable to curb sectarian violence. Ulul Huda, a Muslim scholar from Central Java, confirmed to AsiaNews, “the inertia of the government,” adding that “the Ahmadis in the past have contributed to the struggle for independence in Indonesia. Speaking of the attackers, the scholar labels them “extremists” who “use violence and manipulate Islam for political ends.”

The Nahdlatul Ulama (NU), the leading moderate Muslim organization in the country has also condemned the attack on the Ahmadiyya community, along with Setara and the Wahid Institute. Professor Azyumardi Azra, from the State Islamic University in South Jakarta , explains to AsiaNews that “violence in the name of religion against certain groups, including the Ahmadis or any other, can not and should not be tolerated.”

The Ahmadi sect is considered heretical because it does not recognize Muhammad as the last prophet. It is the victim of attacks in Indonesia, Pakistan, Bangladesh and many other countries where Islam is the most prevalent religion. According to preliminary reports, the mob’s anger was unleashed by rumours of an alleged “invasion” of the village of Umbulan by dozens of Ahmadi. In fact, some non-native Ahmadis came to the village to solve a problem related to residence permits. A Filipino woman, the wife of an Ahmadi faithful has started procedures to regularize the situation with the immigration office.

A Christian Worshipper Stabbed and A Minister Beaten in Indonesia

In Indonesia, a Christian worshipper was stabbed in the stomach and a minister was beaten with a wooden plank on the head.

Asia Sihombing, a worshipper was entering the church when the assailants jumped off a motorcycle and stabbed him on the stomach.

The Rev. Luspida Simahuntak came out from the church with an intention to help the victim but her head was smashed with a wooden plank.

Indonesia is a predominantly Muslim country with a population of about 237 million. The country has the highest number of Muslims than any other country in the world.

Indonesia is considered a secular country and claims to have religious tolerance.

A group called Islamic Defenders Front is trying to implement Islamic Law and they are known for persecuting non-Muslims.

This group often harasses the church members. They throw shoes and water bottles towards the church members, and interrupt sermon by chanting, “Infidels!” and “Leave Now!” The even dump feces in the church area.

The Islamic group denied any involvement in the attack but the police said they already have identified the attacker and planning to arrest the perpetrator.

Interestingly, the attacker was not arrested immediately and the police declared they would capture the perpetrator today, which may give the attacker enough time to escape.

Two Islamic leaders have the temerity to lecture the west on tolerance.

On a personal note, I find it repugnant to the point of nausea to listen to leaders of the least tolerant nations lecture the US on how to force tolerance of violent ideas like Islam, to preserve tolerance. A rather typical Muslim word game. Notice the appeal at the end to use ‘sharia principles’ to stop people from doing what Muslims don’t like, while of course forcing Americans to accept what Muslims do like.

Anyone curious about these countries and their records of tolerance may want to search through Vlad, key words, sharia police in Indonesia, or, sentenced to death in Afghanistan.
