Lashes and stonings abound in Iran as it slams Canada for human rights abuse

From PressTV, DailyMail U.K.

Iran has described the arrests of protesters at the recent G20 summit in Toronto as an inhuman act and has warned against the ” new and dangerous” approach adopted by Canada toward the civil rights of it’s citizens. Meanwhile, the country with the highest execution rate in the world is set to stone a woman to death for adultery.

‘Help us save our mother’: Pleas from the children of ‘adulterous’ Iranian woman who faces death by stoning

An Iranian woman faces death by stoning after being convicted of adultery.

Amnesty International yesterday called on the Iranian authorities to halt the imminent execution of mother-of-two Sakineh Mohammadi Ashtiani and the hanging of another woman said to be a political activist.

Ashtiani was convicted of having an ‘illicit relationship’ with two men in May 2006 and received 99 lashes as her sentence.
Despite this, she has also been convicted of adultery and sentenced to death by stoning.

The 43-year-old has retracted a ‘confession’ she said was made under duress.

Appealing for help to the international community, her daughter, Farideh, 16, and son, Sajad, 20, said yesterday: ‘Please help end this nightmare and do not let it turn into a reality. Help us save our mother.’

Under Iran’s Islamic penal code, adultery is punishable by stoning to death or flogging, while hanging is the penalty for murder and other crimes such as drug trafficking.

Stoning sentences were widely carried out after Iran’s 1979 Islamic Revolution, but have been rare in recent years.

Men killed in this way are buried to the waist, while women are buried deeper, to stop the stones hitting their breasts.

If a prisoner manages to pull free during a stoning, he or she is acquitted or jailed, but is not executed. It is easier for a man to drag himself free because he is not buried so deeply.

In December 2008 a man convicted of adultery escaped death by stoning by dragging himself out of the pit he had been buried in for the punishment.

But two other alleged male adulterers were killed by the barbaric method in the same incident, which took place in the north-eastern city of Mashhad.

Iranian activists against stoning say it is not prescribed in the Koran.

Iran has the highest execution rate in the world.

Amnesty International has recorded 126 executions between January and June – among them five political prisoners.

At least 35 dead, 100 wounded in suicide bombings in Pakistan

From The National Post

LAHORE, Pakistan — Three suicide bombers struck a Sufi shrine in Pakistan’s eastern city of Lahore on Thursday, killing at least 35 people and wounding more than 100, officials said, the second major attack in the city in a month.

Hundreds of devotees were visiting the shrine of the Persian Sufi saint, Syed Ali Hajwairi, commonly known as Data Gunj Bakhsh, in the heart of the city when the attacks occurred. Muslims in Pakistan visit shrines and mosques in large numbers on Thursday nights and Friday.

“Dead bodies are scattered all over the courtyard of the shrine,” Reuters photographer Mohsin Raza said from the scene. “There is blood everywhere. Two of the dead were my friends. It’s very horrifying,” he said in a choked voice.

One of the attackers blew himself up at the gate of the sprawling, marble shrine while two other attacks took place in the basement of the shrine where people were washing for prayers. Continue Reading →

Al Qaeda’s First English Language Magazine Is Here

By Marc Ambinder, The Atlantic Wire

As the U.S. struggles to manage its efforts to influence opinion about Al Qaeda abroad, Al Qaeda on the Arabian Peninsula has produced its first English-language propaganda magazine.

It’s called “Inspire,”  and you can read parts of it below. A U.S. official said early this morning that the magazine appears to be authentic.

“Inspire” includes a “message to the people of Yemen” directly transcribed from Ayman Al-Zawahari, Al Qaeda’s second in command, a message from Osama Bin Laden on “how to save the earth,”  and the cover includes a quotation from Anwar Al-Awlaki, the American born cleric who is believed to be directly connected to the attem

pt to destroy an airplane over Detroit by Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab on Christmas Day. (The director of the National Counterterrorism Center, Michael Leiter, made that disclosure at a security forum in Aspen, CO, Fox News reported.)

The table of contents teases an interview with the leader of AQAP who promises to “answer various questions pertaining to the jihad in the Arabian Peninsula.”  It includes a feature about how to “make a bomb in the kitchen of your mom.” Continue Reading →

In the past five months the number child insurgents has increased almost fivefold in the town of Sangin, to a band of 40, who are used to run weapons, plant bombs and carry out tasks for the Taliban, The Daily Telegraph has learnt.

According to military intelligence sources there are about 12 children being routinely used in the Sangin area just to plant bombs.

The Taliban have resorted to the tactic because they know that British troops are unlikely to fire on children planting IEDs (improvised explosive devices). They have also been forced into the change because sophisticated surveillance technology is able to pick up Taliban IED planting teams and take action against them.

On one occasion surveillance cameras picked up two children under 10 walking along the main road with one placing an IED in a hole followed by another covering it up with a bag of stone and earth. Continue Reading →

Two very different parties celebrated for Canada’s birthday.

Happy Canada Day!

http://westnoble.k12.in.us/hs/website/_notes/CanadianFlag.jpg

So while millions of Canadians will celebrate Canada’s 143rd birthday, a celebration recognizing it’s  history, values and traditions, 10,000 Muslims will flock to the “Journey of Peace Conference” in Toronto to celebrate misogyny, homophobia and jihad. Of course ‘ace’ speaker Dr.Zakir Naik’s ban from entering the country has many upset, claiming it a ‘slap in the face for Canadian values’. The web site of the Journey of Peace Conference says:

” The conference will go on as planned and Dr. Zakir Naik will be joining us via live video conferencing along with all the other speakers already scheduled. Join us this Canada Day weekend for a journey towards understanding our Divine Manual: The Holy Qur’an.”

The only slap in the face here is that so many would celebrate anti-Canadian values, perfectly timed for Canada Day weekend.

An Indian Muslim televangelist recently banned from Canada for his inflammatory statements about Jews, gays, and the West, will still headline a massive Islamic conference in Toronto this weekend, addressing upwards of 10,000 attendees via video satellite.

The Journey of Faith Conference — billed as North America’s largest Islamic conference, and featuring personalities such as Abdur Raheem Green, who has advocated “fighting jihad” and Sheikh Hussein Yee, who once said Jews are the extremists of the world — will “go on as planned” — despite Dr. Zakir Naik’s exclusion from Canada, according to the event website.

“The organizers of the 3rd Annual Journey of Faith conference, regret to announce that Dr. Zakir Naik will be unable to attend this year’s conference due to the uncertainty of his admission to Canada,” the event homepage says. “The conference will go on as planned and Dr. Zakir Naik will be joining us via live video conferencing along with all the other speakers already scheduled.”

The National Post first reported last week that Dr. Naik, president of the Mumbai-based Islamic Research Foundation, has been denied a visa to enter Canada because of past comments such as “every Muslim should be a terrorist,” Jews are “our staunchest enemy,” and “If [Osama bin Laden] is fighting the enemies of Islam, I am for him.”

The 44-year-old medical doctor has also said that a man is within his right to beat his wife “lightly,” though in a July 2009 YouTube video he cautioned against hitting her on the face or leaving a mark.

Dr. Naik will join others who have been banned from Canada but who, through the means of technology, still manage to address large audiences here. British anti-war MP George Galloway, for example, was banned from delivering a speech in Canada last year because of his support of Gaza’s Hamas government, but nonetheless delivered a high-profile speech to hundreds of supporters in a downtown Toronto church via live-feed.

Bernie Farber, CEO of the Canadian Jewish Congress, said Dr. Naik’s upcoming virtual appearance at the Journey of Faith Conference is a slap in the face to Canadian values.

“Given that the Canadian government has sent a strong message that this person is unwelcome in this country, it would have been appropriate for the organizers to keep him from speaking at the conference — period,” Mr. Farber said. “If this is the way they want to operate, then I think that sends a very clear message.”

Dr. Naik, who was also recently banned from entering the UK and whose 16-year-old son is still slated to speak at the conference, did not respond to requests for an interview yesterday.

Conference chairman Imam Saed Rageah — whose Toronto mosque, the Abu Huraira Centre, made headlines last fall after a group of young worshippers vanished and were feared to have joined a Somali militant group — also declined to comment yesterday.

Meantime, Dr. Naik’s supporters were vocal, flocking to the Journey of Faith Conference Facebook page, which has 2,245 fans, to voice their disappointment over the organizers’ June 24 announcement that Dr. Naik will not set foot on the conference stage.

Another supporter was more pronounced in her indignation: “Allah will never let his religion die, it’s just another test. If we produce more people like Dr Zakir naik and spread Islam. Nothing and no power in this world is stronger than Allah.”

Tarek Fatah, founder of the Muslim Canadian Congress, said that while Dr. Naik has a right to speak via satellite, the government’s decision to ban him from Canada “highlights the fact that this man is a hatemonger.”

“Now it is up to those who attend this event to justify why they are going to a conference where a misogynist, homophobic, Jew-hater will be speaking,” Mr. Fatah said. “That’s the burden these 10,000 young Muslim men and women will have to carry.”

According to a second Journey of Faith Conference website — posted under the banner of Peace TV, which was founded by Dr. Naik and is the event’s main media partner — this weekend’s exhibition at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre will touch on ‘Women in Islam,’ including the “status of women in accordance with the Qur’an,” and the issue of “What non-Muslim personalities say about Islam and Prophet Muhammad.”

Dr. Naik — who has spoken several times at the annual Reviving the Islamic Spirit convention in Toronto — has garnered headlines in Canada in the past. In 2006, the National Post reported that one of the Toronto 18 terrorist suspects had urged Muslim youth to seek out the televangelist’s teachings.

“I own like 5 of his video cassettes,” the suspect told his online friends in November, 2003.

However, Mr. Fatah said Canadians should not expect to hear anything “nasty” from Dr. Naik this time around, because he knows his words will be scrutinized.

“Expect a very lovely speech about brotherhood and amity,” Mr. Fatah said. “He will want to prove that the ban on his entry into this country was wrong.”

Citizenship and Immigration Canada declined to comment yesterday, citing the Privacy Act.

Muslim pupils taken out of music lessons ‘because Islam forbids playing an instrument’

Muslim pupils taken out of music lessons ‘because Islam forbids playing an instrument’

Schools are allowing Muslim families to withdraw their children from music lessons because learning an instrument is forbidden according to some Islamic beliefs.

Hundreds of pupils are thought to have been removed from state school music classes despite the subject forming part of the statutory National Curriculum.

Parents have no automatic right to withdraw their children from subjects such as music, although legal exemptions exist for religious and sex education.

However, in one London primary school about 20 pupils were removed from rehearsals for a Christmas musical and one five-year-old girl remains permanently withdrawn from mainstream music classes.

The details, which emerged after a BBC investigation, provoked concerns from Ofsted and education experts. Some Muslims believe that playing musical instruments is forbidden in the same way that alcohol is banned.

At Herbert Morrison Primary in Lambeth, 29 per cent of children come from mainly Somalian Muslim families. Headteacher Eileen Ross said some parents “don’t want children to play musical instruments and they don’t have music in their homes”.

One girl remains permanently withdrawn from the school’s music curriculum, which consists of a government-backed project to learn instruments such as the violin or cello.

“For goodwill I allow that parent to withdraw their child from all music but I am in fact denying the child the opportunity that the other children in the class have,” she told BBC London News. Continue Reading →

The European June: Riots, Stonings, and Brawls

From Islamist Watch

Islamists’ long march through the West involves three interlocking campaigns, each of which can be advanced violently or nonviolently: provoking conflicts with authorities (governmentscourtspolice, etc.), intimidating the non-Muslim public, and bullying insufficiently radical Muslims. All three facets were on display in Europe over the past month, as tensions enabled by shortsighted policies erupted into physical altercations:

  • Islamists versus the authorities. Rinkeby, a Muslim-heavy suburb of Stockholm, Sweden, is fast becoming Europe’s latest “no-go zone” after riots rocked the area, which is dubbed “Little Mogadishu” and serves as a recruiting spot for al-Shabaab terrorists. When a group of “youths” was denied entry to a party on June 7 and police tried to disperse the crowd, junior jihadists used the opportunity to rampage against the state:

They then began to pull up street cobblestones and slabs of pavement and throw them at police. Then they started setting light to parked cars, and even a local bank ended up being set on fire. Firemen who came to put out the fires were then also set upon by the gang of up to 60 youths, according to news agency TT. Continue Reading →

Son of hate preacher Abu Hamza jailed for attacking police at London demonstration

Yasser KamelJailed: Yasser Kamel, pictured arriving at court, threw missiles at police officers during violent protests outside the Israeli embassy

The student son of radical cleric Abu Hamza was today jailed for a year after confessing to throwing missiles at police officers during violent protests outside the Israeli embassy.

Yasser Kamel, 20, disguised his face with a scarf and used a stolen police riot shield for protection during the ‘peak time of violence’ at the demonstration against Gaza sanctions.

Kamel was caught on camera throwing four missiles at police during a 45-minute period he spent ‘at the front-line’ as hundreds of protesters confronted officers in January 2009.

A total of £50,000 of damage was done to shops and cafes on Kensington High Street during the rioting, Isleworth Crown Court heard.

Most of the money was needed to repair a Starbucks coffee shop which had its entire front window smashed to pieces and which Kamel was later seen to enter. Continue Reading →

Tory MP launches first legal bid to ban burkha in Britain

From The Daily Mail

A Tory MP who was probed by police for alleged racial hatred earlier this year has launched a landmark bid to ban Muslim women from wearing the burkha in Britain.
Philip Hollobone will today attempt to steer legislation through the Commons to regulate the wearing of ‘certain facial coverings’.
The Kettering MP said his Bill would make it illegal for people to cover their faces in public ‘which would obviously have a big impact for those who wear full-face Islamic veils’.
He said: ‘I think it’s inappropriate to cover your face in public, whether it’s a burkha, a balaclava or anything else.
PHILIP HOLLOBONEWoman wearing a burkha (file picture)‘We are never going to get along with having a fully integrated society if a substantial minority insist on concealing their identity from everyone else.’
Mr Hollobone has previously described the burkha as ‘offensive’ and ‘against the British way of life’.
He was investigated by police for alleged racial hatred after described the garment as ‘the religious equivalent of going around with a paper bag over your head with two holes for the eyes’.
In a debate over immigration on February 2, the Kettering MP said: ‘How ridiculous would the House of Commons be if we were all to wear burkhas? How would Mr Speaker be able to identify which member to call next?
‘In my view, it is offensive to want to cut yourself off from face-to-face contact with, or recognition by, other members of the human race.’
Northamptonshire Race Equality Council, which is funded by taxpayers, complained to police. Continue Reading →

More horror for the Copts in Egypt, abused by the system, kidnapped by Muslims

No matter how many of these stories I read, I still have to shake my head in despair and disgust that an entire nation’s machinery of state can be subverted to such a sick and twisted ideology as this. The Coptic peoples at least know enough not to say to much to the police as they, the victims, will be the recipients of police and state brutality as a consequence of daring to resist some Podunk Mustard family’s kidnap-and-rape-a-wife scheme.

After Failed Attempt of Forced Islamization Egyptian Christian Family Under Siege

Posted on 29. Jun, 2010 by Dan Wooding in Christian news

Zeenahom

A Middle Eastern journalist has revealed that “one of the most explosive issues in the relations between Christians and Muslims of Egypt is the abduction of Christian Coptic minor girls, to force them to embrace Islam, after humiliating and demeaning them psychologically and morally.”

Mary Abdelmassih, in a story for the Assyrian International News Agency (www.aina.org) said, “This dangerous phenomenon which appeared in the 1970s and which has become a lucrative business for all Muslim participants including the Egyptian State Security has been steadily on the rise, with reports surfacing weekly of several disappearances without trace of Coptic girls.”

She said that those fortunate enough to return home have talked of their ordeal. (See: www.aina.org/news/20091223164421.htm )

Abdelmassih went on to say that Zeenahom (Suzan) Nady Adly, 19-years old, “is one of the fortunate girls who was able to return home, after being drugged and abducted by Muslims to force her conversion to Islam.

“She comes from Ezbet Fanous, a small hamlet, near the town of Samalut (150 miles from Cairo), inhabited by a Coptic majority of twenty families to six Muslim ones and a Muslim mayor.”

The journalist said that according to the girl’s story, as she went out at night on Saturday, June 12, 2010, to buy soft drinks for some visitors at home, she was stopped by two Muslim men, who sprayed a substance in her face, making her lose consciousness.

“When I regained consciousness nearly two hours later, I found myself in the building of the Islamic Sharia Association in Minia, facing a shaikh [Islamic scholar] who tried to intimidate and force me to convert to Islam,” reported Freecopts advocacy in a taped interview with Zeenahom. “He tried to convince me that I would be safer marrying a Muslim, and leaving the area.”

However, the shaikh contacted State Security to tell them that he wanted her to convert, but he was told to let her go as her family was not keeping quiet.

Meanwhile, said Abdelmassih, her father, Nady Adly, had sent telegrams to all authorities and her family demonstrated in front of Samalut police headquarters asking for her return, which forced the security authorities to intervene.

“However, her ordeal continued at the police station where she was taken the next day. Zeenahom accused the village mayor Khalaf Ebdelmageed of masterminding her abduction at the hands of Muslim Sayed Khalaf and another named Taha El-Hinnawi, in exchange for money,” said the story.

Zeenahom was reported as saying, “While I was at the police station, the village mayor told me that I was too good to be a Christian. He asked me to say in the police report that I will convert to Islam, but I refused.”

The girl said that she refused to tell the police the names of her abductors, especially Sayed Khalaf, for fear of retribution. She is staying presently with her aunt.

Magdy Attia, one of the Coptic witnesses who demonstrated in front of the police station until Zeenahom was handed over to her father said that nearly two hundred Muslims, together with Sayed Khalaf’s family were there with weapons intimidating them.

“We were told that they will take Zeenahom by force to convert and marry her main abductor Sayed Khalaf, a driver by occupation, who has divorced his Muslim wife recently,” he said. “We were told Zeenahom will be Sayed’s second wife.” Continue Reading →
