Canada really has become an odd place. A blogger who films anti-Israel demonstrations – where Jews are often called the most obscene names – was assaulted this weekend by a leading member of the Canadian Arab Federation and CUPE. He wasn’t hurt but the attacker pushed him and tried to stop him using his camera. Surely this isn’t legal – at least not in countries where Sharia Law doesn’t apply. The bully then told the police that the awful man with the camera was a racist and the cop told the blogger to “keep things peaceful.” Surely this officer should be reminded of the law and that a man who crosses the road to insult and threaten another person is the one not keeping things peaceful.
BARKINGSIDE: Man needs 62 stitches after racist attack
A FATHER-of-two needed 62 stitches to repair gaping wounds to his face after being slashed with a stanley knife during a racist attack.
The 28-year-old, who does not want to be indentified, lost about two pints of blood after being assaulted by a gang of four Asian men opposite Fullwell Cross Leisure Centre in Barkingside High Street.
The man, who lives in Barkingside, said his confidence has been left shattered by the ordeal – which took place at around 1.30am on Sunday May 16.
He said: “I left the Fairlop Oak pub and went to a 24-hour shop nearby to get some cigarettes and a couple of lagers.
“On the way out I saw a friend of mine at the bus stop and went to chat with him. At the same time a car pulled up and a group of Asian lads got out and walked past me. They were looking at me funny.
“My friend eventually left and I was leaning against a wall looking at my mobile phone when one of (the gang) hit me over the head with a bottle.”
As the man turned around another gang member – described as having a skin head haircut and long beard – racially abused him before slashing him twice in the face, causing a two-inch cut to his cheek and a five-inch gash under his right eye.
The thugs, who were all aged between 25 and 30, ran off following the attack.
The injured man, who has been unable to return to his job as a digger driver on the Olympic site or go out alone at night since the attack, said: “I staggered into the 24-hour shop to ask for help. I was bleeding really badly.
“If I hadn’t been on the way down the guy could have slashed my neck.
“The ambulance took half-an-hour to get there. Luckily an old mate of mine from school arrived at the shop not long after to get something and saw me there bleeding. He helped stem the blood with a load of dusters from the shop.
“I passed out because of the blood loss but the ambulance crew gave me a shot of something which woke me up again.”
He was taken to King George Hospital in Goodmayes before being transferred to the Royal London Hospital in Whitechapel to have micro-stitches inserted in his lip.
He said: “This has really destroyed my confidence.
“I was already feeling low after splitting up from my wife in January, but this has made it even harder for me to meet someone new.
“I’m just lucky to have such good friends around me.
“I don’t understand why this happened. I didn’t say anything to these people and they just brutally attack me.”
The knife-wielding thug is thought to have been wearing a tracksuit at the time of the assault while the other three men wore dark clothing.
The car the gang arrived in was driven off before the attack. It is described as small and blue – possibly a Ford Fiesta.

Home Secretary Theresa May faces outrage after her officials allowed an Islamic hate-preacher to enter Britain.
Zakir Naik, who has said ‘every Muslim should be a terrorist’ and claimed Western women are easy rape targets because of their revealing clothes, is to speak in a tour of the country.
But his arrival appears to fly in the face of earlier Tory pledges to oppose radical Islam and attempts to keep extremists out of the UK.

When the Indian last came to Britain in 2006, David Davies – the Conservative MP for Monmouth – described him as a ‘hate-monger’.
But the Home Office, however, indicated that they are not planning to ban Naik, a doctor who preaches on the satellite channel Peace TV.
So the Prime Minister David Cameron and Mrs May now face a political test over how tough their stance will remain now they are in government.
Naik, who will appear at London’s Wembley Arena and in Sheffield, has been described by some moderate Muslims as a ‘truth-twister’.
In a recent lecture, he said he was ‘with’ Osama Bin Laden over the attacks on ‘terrorist America’, adding that the 9/11 hijackings were an inside job by President George W Bush, the Sunday Times reports.
‘I don’t know what he’s doing’ he said about Bin Laden. I’m not in touch with him. I don’t know him personally. If he is terrorising the terrorists, if he is terrorising America the terrorist … I am with him. Every Muslim should be a terrorist,’ said Naik about the US President.
The rancorous Naik is a doctor by profession and can recite long passages from the Quran by rote, his distinguished educational background and knowledge set him apart from the usual ‘mad mullah’ category.
However, he has called for all Muslims who change their faith to be executed.
The resident of Mumbai reserves the harshest criticism for Americans.
‘In America, most people consume pork. Many times after dance parties, they have swapping of wives. Many say, ‘You sleep with my wife and I will sleep with your wife’. If you eat pigs then you behave like pigs,’ he said describing the American way of life.
The uproar over his visit follows on the heels of a similar incident involving controversial preacher, Yusuf al-Qaradawi, an Egyptian radical.
The Tories were then in the Opposition and had vehemently campaigned for a ban on entry into Britain for al-Qaradawi.
One well-placed insider told the paper: ‘Zakir Naik is a nasty man who makes al-Qaradawi look like a participant at a teddy bears’ picnic. He shouldn’t be allowed into the country to stir up hatred.’
The UK Border Agency, a Home Office department, said: ‘Each case is considered on its own merits.
‘When assessing a visa application, we will consider the previous conduct of the individual and we will ensure the UK does not provide a platform for the promotion of violent extremism.’

An Asian man whose marriage breakdown allegedly led to the murders of his parents and sister may have split up with his wife because he had a love-child with a secret girlfriend.
Kamar Mahmood separated from his wife Nabeela after being married for nine years.
It is understood that the shame of the couple’s split – and the news that Mr Mahmood had allegedly cheated on his wife with a white, blonde girl – outraged Nabeela’s family so much that they decided to take revenge.
Nabeela’s three brothers and two other men are accused of shooting dead Mr Mahmood’s father Moham-mad Yusaf, 51, his mother Pervaze, 49, and sister Tania, 22, who were in Pakistan for the marriage of their youngest son, Asad, 24.

Pakistan sect demands protection after at least 93 members killed in militant assault on Lahore mosques

Leaders of Pakistan’s minority Ahmadi sect demanded better government protection this morning as they buried many of the 93 sect members killed by Islamist militants at two of the group’s mosques.
The request could test the government’s willingness to take on hard-line Islamists whose influence is behind decades of state-sanctioned discrimination against the Ahmadis in the Sunni Muslim-majority country.
The attacks occurred minutes apart on Friday in two neighbourhoods in the eastern city of Lahore.
Two teams of gunmen, including some in suicide vests, stormed the mosques and sprayed bullets at worshippers while holding off police.

Thirteen people died overnight at hospitals, raising the death toll to 93, said Raja Ghalab Ahmad, a local sect leader.

A RECORD 417,000 immigrants were given the right to live in Britain permanently last year, figures showed yesterday.
Of those, 203,000 were handed a British passport and full citizenship in 2009 – around one person every three minutes.
The number rocketed from 129,375 – a 58 per cent rise – in just a year.
On the rise … migrant numbers soared under Labour
Another 214,000 were given the right to settle in the UK – the first step to full citizenship.
This figure soared by 40 per cent over the 12 months.
The Home Office figures showed 29 per cent of those given a passport last year were from India, Pakistan or Bangladesh. Another 27 per cent came from Africa and 17 per cent from Asia, including China and the Philippines.
Last year’s total was the highest since the figures were first published in 1962.
Damian Green … ‘migration system was out of control for so long under Labour’
Immigration minister Damian Green said the dramatic increases exposed the timebomb left by former Labour PM Gordon Brown and his party’s failed policies.
Mr Green said: “What is significant is that grants of settlement, the right to remain in this country, and grants of British citizenship have gone up hugely to record levels.
“So it shows the long-term effect of the fact that the immigration system was out of control for so long under the previous government.
“I believe immigration has been far too high in recent years, which is why we will reduce net migration back down to the levels of the 1990s – to tens of thousands rather than hundreds of thousands.”
But the Home Office statistics also showed the number of new arrivals dipped last year as the UK was clobbered by the recession. Just over half a million immigrants came – a drop of nine per cent. This included 45,000 from Eastern European countries like Poland, down 55 per cent.
Net immigration – the number arriving in Britain minus the number leaving – dipped from 160,000 to 142,000.
David Cameron has vowed to cut this figure to “tens of thousands” by imposing a cap on immigrants from outside the EU.
And Mr Green promised new limits on work permits and a crackdown on marriage and foreign students. Campaign group Migrationwatch said the citizenship and rights of settlement increases were worrying.

Chairman Sir Andrew Green said: “These massive increases are the legacy of 12 years in which Labour has lost control of immigration.
“It leaves a huge task for the new Government but it is a task that must be achieved if the public’s concerns are to be met.” Other figures predicted that England’s population will soar by nearly four million in the decade from 2008 to 2018 – with Colchester, Essex, the fastest-growing area.
The number of people in England will shoot up from 51.5 million to 55.3 million between 2008 and 2018.
Garrison town Colchester will see its population rise by 33,000 to 207,000 – an increase of nearly 20 per cent. Westminster in London, Bristol and Norwich will all see their populations rocket by more than 16 per cent, according to a report by the Office for National Statistics.
The East of England will be the country’s fastest-growing region, with nearly 600,000 more people – a ten per cent increase.
It is also the region which has seen some of the biggest influx of immigrants over the last decade.
In contrast, the smallest rise will be 3.5 per cent in the North West.
The Office for National Statistics said the increases are being driven by migration as well as rising birth rates and people living longer.
