Kerala, hand severed of Christian Professor accused of blasphemy

Ernakulam (AsiaNews) – A group of unknown assailants severed the hand and the right arm of a university professor accused of defaming Mohammed months ago. The execution took place yesterday morning in Muvattupuzha, Ernakulam district (Kerala). Sajan K George, president of the Global Council of Indian Christians condemns this “barbaric act” and recalls that “Sharia is not the law of India.”
According to the police, Prof. TJ Joseph, was returning with his family from Sunday service when a group of people in a Maruti Omni van drew up beside him stopping him close to home. After forcing Joseph to get out of his car, they attacked him with knives and swords, then cut off his hand and right arm throwing them away after about 200 meters.
The professor was immediately transported to a hospital in Muvattupuzha and then to another specialized in surgery, where doctors are trying to mend his severed hand. The professor has also suffered deep wounds to his body and is in need of plastic surgery.
Joseph, Kerala, a professor at Newman’s College, Thodupuzha, is free on bail. Last March he had prepared a questionnaire for examinations in the private college and according to the Muslims had included questions offensive to Muhammad.
Due to a series of protests by Islamic groups, he was suspended from school. Later, Joseph publicly apologized for his “unintentional error”. Joseph’s mother said that in recent months her son continued to receive threats.
Meanwhile, the police found the van of the attackers, empty, and “the vehicle registration number is false,” said police inspector P.P. Shams. Some of the detained are activists of the Popular Front of India, a right wing Muslim group, formerly called the National Development Front, which is very strong in Kerala.
Joseph’s sister, Mary Stella, says that “the assailants destroyed the window of our car and pulled out my brother to execute him. My poor mother, who was in the car with us, witnessed the crime”.
The Minister of Education, M.A. Baby has condemned the incident, expressing his displeasure because some have turned the issue of the exam questionnaire into a matter of religious conflict.
Sajan K. George, president of the Global Council of India (Gcoi), condemned the “barbaric act” and demands that “the attackers are brought to justice soon. I hope that – as usually happens – the complaint will not disappear in police records because of threats from Islamic militants in Kerala. ”
Sajan K. George gives voice to the whole civil society which “expresses sorrow for these attacks by Muslims against Christians in Kerala. It should be noted that Islamic law is not the law of our country”.According to the Gcoi president Kerala is witnessing a growth of Islamic extremism: “Christian schools are often targeted on the headscarf issue or another issue and unfortunately many schools succumb under pressure. The design of these militants is to provoke peaceful Christian communities and provoke a civil war. The rapid growth of the Muslim population and their influence in elections is increasing safety concerns for Christians throughout the country”.
The attack against Joseph has been condemned by several Muslim organizations, including the Indian Union Muslim League (Iuml) and the Jama’at-e-Islami, which calls for a significant response against the culprits. Panakad Hyderali Shiyab Thangal, supreme leader of Iuml, has asked that the perpetrators be prosecuted harshly. And referring to the questionnaire compiled by Joseph, said: “An error can not be corrected by another mistake”.
The indicted questionnaire however did not include anything that could be construed as against the Muslim religion. The authorities of Newman College, told AsiaNews that in the test, Prof. Joseph tells the story of a fishmonger who, despite hard work, becomes increasingly poor. The monger’s name is Mohammad In his desperation, he spoke to God and also asked his brother why his fortunes were dwindling. His brother told Mohammed:”Why are you calling God, God, God….” Students were asked to specify the punctuation of the narrative.

The strict Muslim father and brother of “Harry Potter” actress Afshan Azad have been charged with threatening to kill her because she has a boyfriend.
Azad, 22, fled the suburban English home she shared with her father, Abdul, 54, mother, Nilofar, and three brothers after the bizarre incident on May 21, authorities said.
A spokesman for prosecutors said her brother Ashraf, 28, physically attacked her and both he and their father threatened to kill her because of her relationship with an unidentified Hindu man.
They confronted her in her bedroom and left her “badly bruised” when she refused to stop seeing the man, the Daily Express said.
Afshan, who appeared in four Potter movies is believed to have taken refuge at the London home of friends.
Both of the accused men appeared in Manchester Magistrates’ Court and were ordered not to travel to London while the case was adjourned until July 12. Their bail conditions also required them to observe a curfew of 11 p.m. to 6 a.m. and not to contact an unnamed man, believed to be the boyfriend.
No other details of the incident were disclosed. But Ashraf told the Daily Telegraph that the family will suffer as a result of the scandal.
“We are going to get trouble from the community now,” he said. “It is bad news for our safety, her safety.”
“Her career could be ruined. When she goes to a premiere or something, they are going to ask her about this, not the film,” he added.
“My younger brother is going to get harassed at college,” Ashraf said. “All our family is going to be harassed by the community because of this.”
Afshan, who had never acted before, was a student in Manchester in 2005 when she auditioned as a “laugh” for the film “Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.” She won the role of Padma Patil, one of Harry’s witch classmates and later his girlfriend.
She appeared again as Padma, the twin of Parvati Patil, who is played by 22-year-old Shefali Chodhury, in three more films and will appear in the final installment, “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows,” next year.
The arrests were the latest misfortune for a Potter cast member. In 2008, Rob Knox, who played Marcus Belby in “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince” was stabbed to death when he tried to break up a fight involving his 17-year-old brother.

Schools are allowing Muslim families to withdraw their children from music lessons because learning an instrument is forbidden according to some Islamic beliefs.
Hundreds of pupils are thought to have been removed from state school music classes despite the subject forming part of the statutory National Curriculum.
Parents have no automatic right to withdraw their children from subjects such as music, although legal exemptions exist for religious and sex education.
However, in one London primary school about 20 pupils were removed from rehearsals for a Christmas musical and one five-year-old girl remains permanently withdrawn from mainstream music classes.
The details, which emerged after a BBC investigation, provoked concerns from Ofsted and education experts. Some Muslims believe that playing musical instruments is forbidden in the same way that alcohol is banned.
At Herbert Morrison Primary in Lambeth, 29 per cent of children come from mainly Somalian Muslim families. Headteacher Eileen Ross said some parents “don’t want children to play musical instruments and they don’t have music in their homes”.
One girl remains permanently withdrawn from the school’s music curriculum, which consists of a government-backed project to learn instruments such as the violin or cello.
“For goodwill I allow that parent to withdraw their child from all music but I am in fact denying the child the opportunity that the other children in the class have,” she told BBC London News. Continue Reading →

Masked terrorists stormed into a United Nations children’s camp in Gaza early on Monday morning, attacked and handcuffed the camp guards, and set the place on fire. UN workers said the facility sustained heavy damage.
The attack was the second of its kind this summer. In late May terrorists set fire to the United Nation’s’ largest Gaza summer camp and left behind bullets and a note threatening to kill John Ging, the UN Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) head in Gaza.
Ging responded to Monday’s attack by calling to “change the circumstances on the ground that are generating such extremism.” He complimented Hamas’ emergency responders for responding quickly to the incident.
Ging made similar remarks following the May attack. At that time, Fatah blamed Hamas for the incident, accusing the Islamic terrorist group of “targeting the education process and the UNRWA curriculum.” Continue Reading →

Drive-by killings rock Pakistan

Sunni and Shiite assassins on motorcycles are fomenting sectarian and ethnic violence in Karachi, Pakistan’s commercial capital, with 21 drive-by murders in the last two weeks.
The government has responded by putting troops on the streets, banning all public meetings except funerals for a month and arresting 24 hard-line Sunni activists.
Still, fears are growing one of the world’s largest Muslim cities could be plunged into a round of religiously motivated revenge killings.
Even more ominous is the possibility al-Qaeda-linked extremists are using the murders to fan ethnic and sectarian hatreds in order to undermine Pakistan’s government and make Karachi, home to 18 million people, ungovernable.
The city, Pakistan’s financial capital and main port on the Arabian Sea, was wracked by ethnic and sectarian violence for much of the 1980s and 1990s as feuds between Sunnis and Shiites erupted in riots and mass murder.
Its tumultuous politics produced equally violent confrontations between the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (United National Movement, MQM), supported by the Urdu-speaking majority population, whose ancestors migrated from India at the time of partition in 1947, and the Awami National Party (ANP), supported by the ethnic Pashtun minority.
The latest round of violence began last month with targeted assassinations of MQM and ANP activists, and attacks on the Muhajir Qaumi Movement-Pakistan, a MQM splinter group, and the Islamistsupporting Jamaat-e-Islami.
June has seen a new round of mayhem in which most of the victims were Shiites.
Two of this week’s one-dozen murders involved drive-by shootings Thursday of a doctor as he left his clinic in Karachi’s Landhi suburb and a paramilitary Pakistan Ranger in the city’s central Garden district.
In both cases, hit squads on motorcycles drew up alongside the targets and opened fire with handguns and AK47s.
Five of the most recent victims were Shiite doctors, who appear to have been picked for because of their visibility in the community.
Karachi’s Shiite leaders blame the murders on the Islamist terrorist group Lashkar-e-Jhangvi, the armed wing of the now-banned Sipah-e-Sahaba (SSP, or Army of the Friends of the Prophet).
Lashkar-e-Jhangvi is suspected of being involved in the assassination of Benazir Bhutto, the former Pakistan prime minister, in Karachi in December 2007.
The SSP came into existence in Pakistan in the early 1980s as a reaction to the Iranian Revolution. It was allegedly created at the behest of Pakistan’s then-military dictator, Zia-ul-Haq, to counter an increasing Shiite militancy.
The SSP wants Pakistan to become a Sunni state and Shiites to be declared non-Muslims.
Over the years, its members have literally waged war on the Shiites. In December, they killed more than 40 of them in two bombings during a religious procession in Karachi.
SSP members also have close links with the Pakistani and Afghan Taliban, receiving arms training in Taliban camps, while offering Taliban members religious instruction in SSP-run madrassas in Pakistan.
The SSP was banned in Pakistan in 2002, around the time some members were accused of involvement in the beheading in Karachi of Daniel Pearl, a Wall Street Journal reporter. But the group has constantly re-emerged under different names.
Now that the United States has stepped up its fight against the Taliban in Afghanistan and pushed Pakistan’s military to root out Islamist fighters in the country’s northwestern tribal belt, the terrorists appear to be trying to destabilize Karachi.
“Anti-state elements are trying to disturb peace in the city and the country,” Rehman Malik, Pakistan’s Interior Minister, said yesterday. “The elements involved in the conspiracy first tried to ignite ethnic riots between the Pashtun and Urdu-speaking populations, but after their failure, they now want to start sectarian clashes.”

MONTREAL – A 38-year-old woman is scheduled to be arraigned Monday afternoon on charges of attempted murder, armed assault and possession of a weapon with dangerous intent after her daughter, 19, suffered serious stab wounds at the family’s West Island home.
The victim suffered significant injuries to her head and face but was listed in stable condition Monday, police said.
Police said the weapon used was a large kitchen knife. The victim was attacked at her home on Louise Lamy St. near Carson Ave. in Dorval about 8:15 a.m. Sunday. The victim’s father and three sisters, age 10, 14 and 16, were home at the time of the stabbing, police Constable Anie Lemieux said.
Montreal police Constable Olivier Lapointe said the incident is being investigated as a possible honour crime, generally defined as an act of violence perpetrated because the victim is believed to have brought dishonor upon the family. The family is originally from Afghanistan, police said.
Lapointe noted that the victim had stayed out all night before she was attacked and this will be considered as part of the investigation.

LAHORE: Pakistani human rights activists are perturbed by the erosion of minority rights, particularly the alarming frequency with which cases of forcible conversion of the country’s Hindu nationals are surfacing.
In a latest case of forced conversion, the head of a religious seminary in Rahim Yar Khan district of Pakistani Punjab first abducted a minor Hindu girl and then stopped her from meeting her parents, saying the girl had converted to Islam and no longer wanted to meet her “non-Muslim relatives”.
According to Mehnga Ram, the father of the 13 year old Hindu girl, his daughter Radha was abducted in December 2009 and since then she is not being allowed to see her parents. “Since her abduction, we have knocked on every door stretching from the president of Pakistan to the chief minister of Punjab, but to no avail. In fact, local police, including the district police officer of Rahim Yar Khan are supporting those who had abducted Radha”.
He adds: “The police authorities are neither registering a first information report (FIR) against the accused, nor are they taking any action to recover the girl from the custody of Abdul Jabbar”. Mehnga Ram said his daughter had been missing since December 21, 2009, and the family had searched for her everywhere. However, there is a group on Earth that is being deliberately starved and right to death in large numbers. They are being taken as sexual and hard labour slaves. They are being treated as badly as any group on earth has been treated shy of with modern deliberate mass methods of torture and extermination. But historically, this typically is as bad is it can get just shy of genocide and frankly, one might make the case that this is genocide.
Indeed, the lies about Israel and its alleged treatment of its neighbours, when the reverse is more the case. That Muslims who sell property to Jews in Judea and Sumeria are often killed, sometimes by their own families, while Muslim Arabs live as full Israeli citizens with greater rights in some ways than the Jewish population. I believe that an Arab Muslim has the right not to serve in the Israeli military for example, while non-orthodox-Jews do not.

One girl, Fatima, tried to open a business selling cloaks in colours other than black.
Three Saudi youth may face punishment for appearing on the MTV reality show True Life to talk about ways they’re resisting the country’s strict morality, after the Saudi religious police filed a lawsuit against them for the crime of “openly declaring sin.”
The police are trying to drag the three into court and, if successful, charge them. The teens starred in an episode of the MTV documentary series, which originally aired in Saudi Arabia on May 24, called “Resist the Power! Saudi Arabia.” The program followed three characters, identified only by their first names: Aziz, who tries to meet his girlfriend for a date; Fatima, who tries to open a business selling cloaks in colours other than black; and Ahmad, who thinks women should be able to run for and hold elected office.
On the show, Aziz says, “We are not free to live as we like,” and describes the difficulty he experiences when trying to go on dates in Jeddah with his girlfriend.
An officer at the Jeddah court said it would take at least a week to decide whether to proceed to trial.
The Saudi judiciary system, based on an austere reading of Islamic sharia law, metes out harsh punishments for morality offences, sometimes including lashes with a whip and years of imprisonment. Last year, a Saudi named Mazen Abdul-Jawad was sentenced to 1,000 lashes and five years in prison for discussing his sexual affairs on a show televised by the Lebanese Broadcasting Corporation.
“It will be very difficult to stop the religious clockwork once this gets to court,” a Saudi lawyer told Reuters yesterday. The True Life subjects “may face harsh sanctions like those dealt to Abdul-Jawad.”

An Asian man whose marriage breakdown allegedly led to the murders of his parents and sister may have split up with his wife because he had a love-child with a secret girlfriend.
Kamar Mahmood separated from his wife Nabeela after being married for nine years.
It is understood that the shame of the couple’s split – and the news that Mr Mahmood had allegedly cheated on his wife with a white, blonde girl – outraged Nabeela’s family so much that they decided to take revenge.
Nabeela’s three brothers and two other men are accused of shooting dead Mr Mahmood’s father Moham-mad Yusaf, 51, his mother Pervaze, 49, and sister Tania, 22, who were in Pakistan for the marriage of their youngest son, Asad, 24.

Leaders of Pakistan’s minority Ahmadi sect demanded better government protection this morning as they buried many of the 93 sect members killed by Islamist militants at two of the group’s mosques.
The request could test the government’s willingness to take on hard-line Islamists whose influence is behind decades of state-sanctioned discrimination against the Ahmadis in the Sunni Muslim-majority country.
The attacks occurred minutes apart on Friday in two neighbourhoods in the eastern city of Lahore.
Two teams of gunmen, including some in suicide vests, stormed the mosques and sprayed bullets at worshippers while holding off police.

Thirteen people died overnight at hospitals, raising the death toll to 93, said Raja Ghalab Ahmad, a local sect leader.

In the TV sitcom ‘Green Acres’, Oliver Wendell Douglas, a New York attorney runs for public office against the popular incumbent. A rumor starts, suggesting that Douglas had been debarred as a lawyer. Though not true, the rural folk keep repeating the lie during the campaign, until everyone accepts it as an established fact… and besides, it’s highly amusing to repeat the slander. Candidate Douglas is frustrated beyond endurance. Even though he is an accomplished attorney, he doesn’t stand a chance against this entrenched prejudice.
In the Koran, Mohammed uses the same technique. All sorts of things in the Koran are no more than cartoonish misrepresentations of people and other religions, but Moslems have no problem accepting them as established facts, merely because Mohammed said so and repeated them over and over, giving them divine authority… and besides, Mohammed’s caricatures are highly amusing! Cartoons work. Hyperbole works. They entertain. They work viscerally by circumventing the intellect and appealing directly to the emotions through laughter and sneering mockery. A thing doesn’t have to be true to be fun!
Mocking outsiders is fun! It puts ‘them’ down, puts ‘us’ above them and thus dehumanizes ‘them’. ‘We’ get control of ‘them’.
According to Mohammed, not only do kafir-subhumans deserve to be mocked, but they basically lack a right to share the earth with Moslems. They are on earth by the kind permission and mercy of Moslems who magnanimously restrain themselves from removing the kafirs altogether. By mocking their legitimate overlords (the Moslems), kafirs lose their right to exist on earth. That is the Sunna, the example, of Mohammed.
In the TV episode, lawyer Douglas starts shouting, ‘I was not debarred!’ but no one hears him over the howls of bemused laughter. Mohammed discovered how effective laughing at one’s opponents could be. He mocked all who didn’t follow him, starting with the Jews, calling them sons of pigs and apes, and at other times calling them ‘donkeys carrying the Taurat’. Mohammed refused to pronounce it ‘Torah’. He distorted the names of people in the Bible as well, no doubt to make them sound funny. He told humiliating stories about Biblical heroes. Abraham had a humorous scrotal hernia. Talking rocks stole Abraham’s clothes and ran away with them. Solomon bends over and overhears the language of ants. Trees, clouds and other objects in nature come alive and speak. Such imagery could come out of Tom and Jerry, but it is there in Mohammed’s holy book revealed by his god, who only communicated with Mohammed. Mohammed also hired writers to lampoon his enemies in limericks. Mohammed could not take a joke at his own expense. No! Mohammed’s narcissism was sacred! And poking fun at it was an unforgivable act of high treason punishable by death! He had writers assassinated who lampooned him.
Of course, as with other matters, Mohammed gave himself a monopoly on cartoons. He wanted his opponents to be unarmed in the matter of satirizing him…as do pious Moslems today. Today, Moslems claim the right to satirize Jews, Americans, the British, the Pope and anyone else. But no one may satirize them. Moslems place themselves and their collective offended narcissism above comment. To criticize Moslems is an act of high treason against our divinely-appointed overlords!
We are never told why Mohammed’s narcissism needs defending more than another’s narcissism. We are merely told that Mohammed taught his followers to defend his narcissism by assassinating critics…and that this is confirmed in Islamic law. Continue Reading →

In 2009 the Oslo police reported that rape statistics for the past three years showed that none of the rapes in the city were committed by native Norwegians — all were committed by immigrants. The article is a good one, but it’s a bit misleading. It states non-Western immigrants are behind all assault rapes, which is true enough, but it is not quite exact. What it should say is: immigrants from Muslim countries are behind all assault rapes.
I dislike the tendency for the mainstream press to lump all non-Western immigrants into one big sack. Non-Westerners from non-Muslim countries integrate perfectly well into our societies. They have their quirks and culture, and that is fine. Quite exciting actually, rather enjoy it. They are decent people, unlike many of the Muslims, who are not.
I would love it if the press managed to grow the [manly equipment] to make that distinction. But I guess it would be racist to say that Indian Hindus are no problem, but Pakistani Muslims are. Never mind that they are essentially the same, ethnically speaking. Only the creed differs.

Immigrants behind all reported assault rapes in Oslo
For the last three years according to the police.
All 41 reported assault rapes in Oslo for the last three years were committed by non-Western immigrants, according to the police.
“The perps are relatively young men who come from other countries. They are often asylum-seekers and often from traumatized countries or countries with an entirely different view on women than we have here in Norway,” says Hanne Kristin Rohde, leader of the violence and vice section at the Oslo precinct to NRK [Norwegian Broadcasting Company].
She says the perps are either traumatized or psychologically damaged, or from countries where violence towards women is ordinary.
Brute violence
Men with Kurdish or African background dominate the statistics.
None of the reports involves ethnic Norwegians.
What distinguish the assault rapes are threats or use of brute violence.

Ole Morten Lyng with the Nordbybråten asylum-reception center agrees.
He emphasizes that nothing can excuse such actions, but that it is important to understand the situation the assailants are in, in order to prevent such incidents in the future.
“Politicians are afraid”
The leader of the resource center for immigrant and refugee women, Fakhra Salimi, passes the ball to the politicians.
