Somalia rebels intensify tomb raiding

TIMES LIVE… Somalia’s hardline rebels destroyed  more tombs of Sufi clerics as they intensified a drive to stop what they term “grave worshipping” by moderate Islamists.

On Tuesday, heavily-armed Shebab militia exhumed and took away the remains of a Sufi cleric buried in Mogadishu 30 years ago.

“The raids are continuing for the third day and we have excavated around seven graves so far,” said Sheik Said Karatay, the Shebab official in charge of the tomb raids.

“We take their remains and re-bury them in unidentified places in order to avoid them being recognised by people who continue worshiping them,” he told reporters in Mogadishu.

“The operations will go on until we eradicate the culture of worshiping graves.”

Witnesses said the Shebab militia chanted “God is great” as they dug up the and destroyed the graves using hammers and hoes.

Sufism, which is dominant in Somalia, emphasises the mystical dimension of Islam and includes practices considered as idolatry and innovations in the conservative Wahhabi current of Islam adopted by the Shebab.

The Shebab, who control much of the lawless Horn of Africa country, have set up a unit to destroy all tombs respected by Sufi Muslims.

Quebec: “gender equality is paramount”, plans to ban niqab.

From The National Post

Quebec bill would ban niqabs to all receiving government services

Graeme Hamilton, National Post Published: Wednesday, March 24, 2010

A proposed Quebec bill would deny accommodations of religious differences in cases where safety, communications or identification so require. Phil Noble/Reuters A proposed Quebec bill would deny accommodations of religious differences in cases where safety, communications or identification so require.

MONTREAL — Quebec will refuse all government services, including education and non-emergency health care, to fully veiled Muslim women under legislation tabled on Wednesday in the National Assembly.

Jean Charest, the Liberal Premier, said the bill establishing guidelines for the accommodation of religious minorities is aimed at “drawing a line” to demonstrate that gender equality is a paramount Quebec value.

“If you are someone employed by the state and you deliver a service, you will deliver it with your face uncovered,” he told reporters in Quebec City. “If you are a citizen who receives services, you will receive them with your face uncovered.”

The bill applies to not only government departments and Crown corporations but hospitals, schools, universities and daycare centres that receive funding from the province. Continue Reading →

An unwilling Afghan bride’s defiance leads to death

Frashta didn’t want to marry her cousin, and she fled. In a land where tradition and family honor are everything, that sealed her doom.

Dal gazes at the unmarked grave of his niece outside Charikar, Afghanistan. "She kept saying, 'I can't marry my cousin. If my mother gives me away to anyone else, I will marry him,' " he said.

LA TIMES… Reporting from Charikar, Afghanistan – A child of the provinces can never run far. She should have known this. Frashta, though, was headstrong. Two shots from a hunting rifle in the night, then they rolled her in cloth and tried to hide her, but some things cannot be hidden. She was found in the yard.

“A bad woman,” said the cop.

“So beautiful that no words could describe her face,” said her uncle.

No one had a photograph; a picture wouldn’t tell the story of who she was anyway. A young bride who betrayed her marriage for another man. Or a woman who spent her short life peering through the mesh of a burka until one day she defied family and tradition and ran away from home after refusing to wed her cousin. In this land, both are dark, dark sins.

What would end her life began when she was a few months old. Word came that her father, a mujahid, had been killed in a battle with Soviet troops in the late 1980s. As is custom, Frashta’s mother became the second wife of her husband’s brother, Abdul. To ensure clan harmony, a match was quickly arranged for Frashta: When the girl came of age she would marry Abdul’s son, her cousin. Continue Reading →

Nigeria Islamic court ‘bans Twitter feed’

BBCNEWS… An Islamic court in Nigeria has banned a rights group from hosting debates on the Twitter and Facebook websites on the use of amputations as a punishment.

The court, in the northern city of Kaduna, backed a case brought by a pro-Sharia group arguing that the forums would mock the Sharia system.

The rights group, the Civil Rights Congress of Nigeria, said it would appeal against the ruling.

Sharia judges can order amputations of limbs for petty crimes in some states.

The courts mostly deal with domestic issues such as marriage and divorce.

Sharia judges have sentenced some women to death by stoning for adultery, but the sentences have not been carried out.

Amputation anniversary

The newspaper ThisDay quoted the judge’s ruling as saying:”An order is hereby given restraining the respondents either by themselves or their agents from opening a chat forum on Facebook, Twitter, or any blog for the purpose of the debate on the amputation of Malam Buba Bello Jangebe.”

In 2000, Jangebe made history as the first person in Nigeria to have an amputation carried out under Islamic law after being found guilty of stealing a cow.

The Civil Rights Congress said it had started a Twitter feed, blog and Facebook debate on Jangebe so “Nigerians could air their opinions on Sharia law as a whole”.

The group told the BBC’s Hausa service it would appeal against the ruling.

The Sharia code runs alongside the secular state system in 12 of Nigeria’s 36 states, and citizens can choose which system they deal with. No they can’t.

It is not clear whether the Kaduna court has the authority to enforce the ruling, which analysts say is the first such judgement in Nigeria.

The judge was ruling on a case brought by the Association of Muslim Brotherhood of Nigeria, a Kaduna-based pro-Sharia group.

YEMEN: WOMEN MOBILISE FOR LAW ON ‘BABY BRIDES’

(ANSAmed) – BEIRUT, MARCH 23 – In Sanàa women are mobilising: h/t gates of vienna:

several hundred protested today in Yemen to support a law banning the marriage of girls under the age of 17. Just two days ago thousands protested against the same law. Underneath a burning sun and covered from head to toe in black niqabs, the demonstrators, who arrived in the city on about ten buses on Sunday, warned the parliamentary committee that will examine the text of the law in the coming month to reject it because, they chanted, “it is not permissible to ban what God allows”.

Supporting their view is also a ‘fatwa’ (religious legal pronouncement) stating that those who support the law are apostate. The fatwa was signed by a group of influential religious figures including Sheikh Abdul Majid al Zindani, who according to the U.S. was one of the spiritual teachers of Osama bin Laden. Today a response arrived: a rally organised by various groups for the defence of women’s rights in Yemen, many of which support the government. In reality, not many people were present at the event held in front of Parliament, but the group did include Nojoud Mohammad Ali, who has become a symbolic figure in the fight against forced marriages in Yemen.

Nojoud was forced to marry a 28-year-old man when she was eight, but in 2008 she reported her father to authorities and obtained a divorce. Many today also remembered Fawzia Abdallah Youssef, who died in September of last year due to a haemorrhage in the Saudi Arabian hospital of Hajja, north of Sanàa, while she was giving birth to a still-born baby at the age of 12, which she had with her husband, who she had married the year before. The practice of forced marriages in Yemen is well rooted and the law that intends to regulate them in reality was already approved in February last year, but was then blocked and sent to the parliamentary commission to be examined by a group of delegates who labelled it as anti-Islamic. According to a study by the Social Affairs Ministry, one-fourth of Yemenites marry before the age of 15. This is partly due to a tribal structure of society and widespread poverty, especially in rural areas, while religion also plays a fundamental role in the practice. (ANSAmed).

Islamic roots of the African Slave Trade

I had this video on Sevenload some time ago but as that channel was closed, and it is a very important document, I re uploaded it to Vimeo. Subtitled in English, this was made in German and French and details both the Islamic justification for the trading of human beings as slaves, but also shows how the true history of the slave trade is distorted and outright buried by organizations such as OXFAM and UNICEF due to the take over of the UN by the OIC, or ‘Organization of Islamic Conference’.

This truly is  a stunning document, and makes sense of a lot of history of slavery, Islam, and the west.

If you do not see the video below, click on the header at the top of this article and it will bring you to the unique page where it lives and you should be able to see it fine.

Malaysia women’s group sued over ‘Islam’ in name

Sean Yoong ,  The Associated Press ,  Kuala Lumpur   |  Mon, 03/22/2010 2:41 PM  |  World

Muslim activists filed a lawsuit Monday against a Malaysian women’s group, asking it to remove the word “Islam” from its name on the ground that it misleads people to believe it speaks for all Muslims.

The suit against Sisters in Islam, one of the most well-known non-government groups in this Muslim-majority country, comes after it angered conservative Muslims by criticizing Islamic Shariah laws that allow the caning of women for offenses such as drinking alcohol.

Numerous Muslim groups have in recent months accused Sisters in Islam of misinterpreting religious principles, highlighting a divide between Muslims who demand strict enforcement of Islamic morality laws and others who fear religious intolerance is threatening the moderate practice of their religion.

The lawsuit was filed by Malaysian Assembly of Mosque Youths, whose leader, Mohammad Nawar Ariffin, said Sisters in Islam never obtained formal approval for the name with the government’s registrar of societies.

“The use of the word ‘Islam’ in names must be restricted and protected,” Mohammad Nawar told The Associated Press. “The so-called Sisters in Islam uses the word to attract attention, but it issues statements that contradict what other Muslims believe. It causes confusion among Muslims who might think that the group represents Islam.”

Horror of Islam in Nigeria

Approximately 140 million people inhabit Nigeria, the most populated country in Africa. The country is divided by ethnic and religious differences. 60% of the population is Muslim living mostly in the North of the country. Christians mainly inhabit the South. The introduction of the Sharia law 10 years ago in 12 states provoked a series of riots throughout the country. In August 2004 the Islamic government in the Zamfara state threatened to demolish all churches considered as illegal structures, close all businesses belonging to Christians during Muslim prayers, and enforce a new law against clothing that is not compliant with Islamic law.

This 13-minute documentary considers the situation of the relations between the Catholic Church and Islam in northern Nigeria today, the tensions, the difficulties to be overcome, and efforts at reconciliation.

The beating, which occurred earlier in the week, culminated in the death of Anan Khan, who attended the University of Engineering & Technology in Peshawar.

He was severely beaten with several other students at the university by members of a student wing of the hard-line Jamiat-e Islami party.

Witnesses have said the IJT attacked Adnan for playing music.

Yemen. Women protest ban on child marriages

Canwest News ServiceMarch 22, 2010 4:10 AM

Thousands of women demonstrated outside parliament Sunday to oppose legislation banning the marriage of girls under 17. The protesters held up banners proclaiming “don’t ban what Allah made permissible,” or “stop violating Islamic sharia law in the name of rights and freedoms.” Proposed amendments to the civil status law stalled in parliament last August after severe opposition to a government proposal that would ban girls under 17 and males under 18 from marrying. Child marriages are common, especially in rural areas, where girls as young as eight have been married off.

The Dhimmi News From the Netherlands

by Baron Bodissey

The Evil Modoggie

The translations and video below deal with the dhimmitude of Dutch newspaper Algemeen Dagblad.

This video would almost be as hilarious as a Monty Python sketch, if it were not deadly serious. No one in the video rejects the death threats against Lars Vilks, nor, most importantly, do they reject the Muslim plot to murder him.

The video features Appa (the Moroccan “rapper” Rachid El Ghazoui) who a few years ago said he wouldn’t feel sorry if someone shot downGeert Wilders: “If I ever meet Wilders, he’s mine… if someone were to put a bullet in his head, I wouldn’t mind”. The Dutch Ministry of Justice then decided not to hire Appa for workshops in youth prisons for a while. In this video he again lays the blame somewhere else: “Let the white Dutchman now once stand up and say, no this does not work, this is not the way.”

Before the established parties decided to destroy and ethnically cleanse the Netherlands, these mediaeval freaks and zealots would have been laughed at nationwide, while realizing they were lucky to have those idiots live far away, somewhere in the deserts across the Mediterranean.

The Socialists should be made to pay for this one day.
