Tzipi Livni, the former Israeli foreign minister, cancelled a visit to Britain amid reports pro-Palestinian activist groups sought a warrant for her arrest on alleged war crimes charges.

The Israeli foreign ministry summoned Tom Phillips, the British ambassador to Tel Aviv, to protest at her treatment and give warning that diplomatic ties had been badly damaged.
Mrs Livni cancelled a trip to London over the weekend shortly before a court in Westminster granted a warrant for her arrest over alleged war crimes committed by the Israeli government during its offensive in Gaza a year ago.
The warrant is thought to have been issued after an application by pro-Palestinian lawyers but was later rescinded when it emerged that Mrs Livni, who is now leader of the Israeli opposition, had cancelled her trip to Britain.
Although a major diplomatic incident was averted, the affair has left Britain deeply embarrassed. The Foreign Office was forced to issue an apologetic statement that insisted Israeli officials were still welcome in the United Kingdom.
Refusing to be mollified, Israel said Britain faced being marginalised in the peace process unless it took immediate steps to strip courts of their powers to arrest Israeli dignitaries.
“The absence of firm and immediate action aimed to correct this abuse harms relations between Britain and Israel,” the Israeli foreign ministry said in a statement.
“If Israeli leaders cannot visit Britain in proper, dignified fashion, this will, quite naturally, seriously compromise Britain’s ability to play the active role in the Middle East peace process that it desires.”
Yuli Edelstein, a cabinet minister, added: “By a very small change of legislation, the issue could be at least controlled, if not totally wiped off the map. I think that it’s high time that the British parliament does something about it.”
A statement from prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office quoted the prime minister as rejecting the notion that leaders “who defended our civilians bravely and morally against a despicable and brutal enemy could be branded war criminals. We firmly reject this absurdity.”
Britain regularly attracts visits from both Israeli and Palestinian leaders who see London as an important diplomatic hub.
But according to Israeli officials, the government has repeatedly failed to live up to commitments made by both Tony Blair and Gordon Brown to curb the power of the courts either through legislation or regulation.
In recent years, activists have increasingly used British courts to pursue visiting Israeli officials they claim carried out war crimes in the Palestinian territories and in Lebanon.
In 2005, Doron Almog, a retired Israeli general, returned to Israel without leaving his plane after hearing an arrest warrant had been issued in his name. This September a court rejected a bid to seek an arrest warrant for Ehud Barak, the Israeli foreign minister, who had been invited to attend the Labour party conference.
“We don’t have similar problems with other European countries,” said a senior Israeli government official. “There is no doubt that extremist groups with very partisan agendas have successfully manipulated the British legal system.
“Every week in London, you have people visiting from countries undemocratic in the extreme and with atrocious human rights records, yet this happens to the leader of the Israeli opposition? That is a perversion of the British sense of fair play.”
Muslim cleric Sheikh Yusuf al-Qaradawi has been allowed to visit Britain in the past despite describing Palestinian suicide bombers in Israel as “martyrs”. After one trip in 2004, the Crown Prosecution Service said there was not enough evidence to justify prosecuting him.
The latest row comes just days after Israel protested about a government advisory to UK supermarkets suggesting that they differentiate between West Bank imports according to whether they were produced by Jewish settlers or by Palestinians.
A government official denied that the series of confrontations amounted to a crisis, although he conceded that “it is a very tense period in diplomatic relations.”
The Israeli foreign ministry said it was not planning to advise politicians to cancel trips to Britain, although government officials said Mrs Livni’s arrest warrant could make many think twice about visiting Britain.
“We are facing a problem here and the problem is that it is very easy to harass and embarrass officials who try to visit Britain,” one said. “We can’t have Israeli officials systematically targeted and embarrassed.”

A leaked draft version of the agreement on the table at the Copenhagen climate conference reveals plans for a massive transfer of wealth out of Canada. This transfer will come in the form of new taxes and the establishment of a new world government body for climate change housed in the World Bank.
Lord Christopher Monckton is reported to have obtained a working copy of the draft agreement. He warns that the secretive draft version of the Copenhagen climate change treaty represents a global government power grab on an “unimaginable scale,” and mandates the creation of 700 new bureaucracies as well as a colossal raft of new taxes including 2 per cent levies on GDP and a 2 per cent tax on every international financial transaction.
The draft agreement also reportedly contains a provision for a “uniform global levy of $2 dollars per ton of CO2 for all fossil fuel emissions,” as well as an additional tax on every commercial plane journey, except ones that go in or out of poorer countries. Continue Reading →
Lowell Green handles a caller brilliantly
Tuesday Dec 15 2009 a caller to Lowell Green’s CFRA 580 AM radio talk show, was about to discuss adoption in Islam and how it relates to the story of the 75 year old woman who is about to be lashed, probably to death, for having some minor social contact with her adopted son.
Lowell interrupted the caller and explained as clearly as he could, that he could not allow the caller to continue. That he knew what the caller was going to say. That he knew what the caller had to say was likely true. That the station would likely be heavily fined, the host may well lose his job but would certainly be reprimanded for allowing the caller to continue, and that the consequences to the station and staff overall would be greater than the station could bear. That the caller should feel free to trash talk Judaism, Christianity, Hinduism or Buddhism but nothing may be said of Islam that may make it look bad, even if true.
I am certain what Lowell said is exactly the truth. I hope the rest of us take note. Islam has effectively already removed the most important freedom we have. The freedom to speak what is actually true, and therefore, the freedom to make decisions based on valid information for ourselves.

Bomb-sniffing dogs on Vancouver transit worry Muslim leader
I have an idea! Don’t wear a bomb on to a subway. See that’s the thing. Muslims are objecting to bomb-sniffing dogs cause Muslims have the same pathological hatred for dogs as they do for anything good in this world. But the solution for them is so easy. Don’t wear a bomb or any explosives and no dog will slobber all over you. Then, there is the annoying use of the term ‘have to’ as if people choosing to obey seventh century arbitrary religious edicts actually constitute something one has to do, in a manner that requires others to accommodate them. A person with a heart condition has to take medication or they will die. Tiger Woods has to by an entire orchid farm or greenhouse if he wants to keep his marriage intact. But a Muslim doesn’t HAVE to wash after he is near a dog. He just feels he should or it effects the degree to which his prayers are received, by someone for whom there is no evidence ever existed.

Passengers stepping off the SkyTrain could soon be greeted by explosive-sniffing dog patrols. (Mike Laanela/CBC)Specially trained bomb-sniffing dogs might soon be patrolling Metro Vancouver’s buses and SkyTrains just in time for the Olympics, but that has some Muslims concerned.
The Metro Vancouver Transit Police Service is in the process of selecting the handlers and dogs that will be part of the two-year pilot project, said deputy chief George Beattie.
Once the teams are trained, the dogs will work on the entire transit system, including buses, SkyTrains and SeaBus ferries.
But the idea of being sniffed up and down by a slobbery pooch — no matter how well trained — has already raised concerns among some members of Metro Vancouver’s Muslim community.
Some devout Muslims consider dogs to be unclean animals and try to avoid any contact with them. Some Muslim cab drivers in Vancouver have even refused to take guide dogs in their vehicles and will call for a second vehicle to take the fare instead.
Shawket Hassan, the vice-president of the B.C. Muslim Association, says he wants to make sure the dogs will not touch passengers during searches, which could lead to problems, particularly for Muslims heading to a mosque to pray.
“If they touch the body, then there is a probability they will leave some saliva on the clothes,” said Hassan.

Robert Mugabe, the Zimbabwean president is branded one of the world’s “diabolical masterminds of sexual terror” in a report to be released today on rapes of opposition supporters before last year’s presidential election.
“Ironically, among the few men who have stopped to analyze the unique, destabilizing power of rape are those who use it as a strategy … to control civilian populations and maintain power,” says the study by Aids-Free World, a New York-based advocacy group.
“Mugabe … understands gender; he understands rape. He understands impunity.”
Titled Electing to Rape, the 65-page report draws on testimony from 70 survivors of an “orchestrated campaign of rape and torture” carried out by youth militia, liberation war veterans and others working for Mr. Mugabe’s Zimbabwean African National Unity-Patriotic Front (ZANU-PF) party over five months.
“Striking patterns occurred throughout the testimonies … and cannot be coincidental,” says the report, which will be released in Johannesburg by the group’s co-director, Stephen Lewis, the Canadian activist and former politician, and other officials.
Eighteen of the women held positions as officers within the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC), the main opposition party. Another 47 described themselves as “active” members because they volunteered for its campaigning activities. Thirty of the women also had spouses, parents or other relatives who held significant MDC positions.
“Women … affiliated with MDC were abducted, beaten and gang-raped … and they were told exactly why it is happening to them,” the report says. “These were not random acts of rape and violence.”
Violence against MDC supporters led the party’s leader, Morgan Tsvangirai, to bow out of a run-off election even though he had edged out Mr. Mugabe in the first round.
While the violence was widely reported at the time, the new study offers some of the strongest evidence yet that Mr. Mugabe’s regime systematically used rape as an intimidation measure. In the last decade, rape has come to be viewed as a crime against humanity when committed as part of a widespread attack.
Although the report recognizes Zimbabwe is unlikely to do anything about the rapes, it criticizes South Africa for failing to rein in Mr. Mugabe, once one of the continent’s revered liberation leaders.
South Africa is the only country in the region that has, as a signatory to the UN’s war crimes court treaty, passed “universal jurisdiction” laws that permit prosecution for war crimes committed elsewhere.
“That the national prosecuting authority has declined thus far to investigate allegations of torture in Zimbabwe — despite having been requested to do so–indicates a lack of political will rather than insufficient legal capacity,” the report says.
“South Africa, if presented with credible allegations against Zimbabwean perpetrators of rape who typically enter South African territory, should put aside political considerations and fulfill its legal duty to investigate.”
According to survivors and two witnesses, the attacks usually happened at night.

(IsraelNN.com) A Jewish bride and her father were arrested on the Temple Mount the day before her wedding, after an Arab policeman claimed he saw the father muttering prayers and the bride nodding her head.
The father and daughter were being taken around the site on Wednesday morning by her brother Eli, a volunteer who conducts regular tours at the Temple Mount, when suddenly they were accosted by the Jerusalem policeman.
“We were in the northern part, and I was showing them the archaeological evidence when suddenly a police officer came over to us, Mahmoud Hativ was his name, and h claimed that my father had muttered prayers. “We tried to argue with him and said it wasn’t true, but he said, ‘You can’t fool me,’ and insisted that my father had prayed,” Eli told Israel National News.
“My sister was just standing there silently, not moving at all. She didn’t say a word. It was her first time at the Mount. Other cops came over, Mahmoud said that she had also been involved, and they decided to arrest them both,” he continued. “He let me go right away, because he couldn’t make any claim against me.” His sister and father were taken to the Kishla police station near the Jaffa Gate in the Old City of Jerusalem.
‘Lack of Will to Exercise Israeli Sovereignty’
“The fact that a father comes to the holiest place of the Jewish people and can be arrested simply for allegedly moving his lips is an outrage,” Eli said.
“The Supreme Court has repeatedly ruled that the holy sites of all religions have to be protected and respected – that explicitly includes the rights of Jews on the Temple Mount. Jerusalem police continue to ignore that ruling.”
Asked if he believes U.S. pressure on Israel to make concessions to the Palestinian Authority had anything to do with the incident, Eli said, ‘No. It is a result of the lack of will of the Jerusalem police to exercise Israeli sovereignty over the Jewish holy places in Jerusalem, not U.S. pressure on Israel. It is unheard of to arrest someone just for praying in their own religion. In the U.S. that wouldn’t fly. There is no public place in the U.S. where a Jew could not pray. It is unfortunate, and sad.”
The family, which immigrated to Israel from New York in 1996, lives in Beit Shemesh.
‘Police Misled Them to Sign Confession’
The two were held for several hours. At approximately 11:30 a.m., the two were ordered to sign a declaration which they were told said they would promise not to return to the Temple Mount for 15 days.
However, the father, who spoke with Israel National News from the courtyard of the police station while waiting to be questioned by the police commander, said that further examination of the paper showed they had been misinformed. The declaration actually said that they were confessing to have violated a law about disturbing the public order.
It was also made equally clear that if they did not sign the paper, they might not be freed for hours – perhaps not even in time for the young woman to make it to her own wedding.
Officers at Jaffa Gate Station Mocked the Bride
“The police officers talked very improperly to my daughter. She was very upset – in tears – and they ridiculed her. ‘What’s the matter, are you baby?’ they mocked her.” Her father immediately fired back, “That’s how you talk to someone?”
The father said that the officer in charge threatened to keep them longer in response. “Be careful,” the cop warned. “If you talk to me that way, I can keep you here for a few more hours.”
“So I asked them: ‘How would it be if we arrested a young lady for praying anywhere else in the State of Israel? Or maybe a Muslim woman for praying in Mecca? This is about police enforcement – so enforce the law! And they answered me, ‘It’s a very sensitive issue. This is the law.’ That’s what they answered me,” said the father. “So I shut up, because I wanted to get out of there, and he would have kept us for hours. We signed the paper, and we will deal with it in the court of public opinion.”
The father was not praying although he was, in fact, moving his lips. “They asked me if my daughter was nodding her head. I said I didn’t know – but if she can now be arrested for nodding her head… well, anyway, in the end, that’s what they got her for. Nodding her head. That’s the nature of the public order.”

Here is a Phyllis Chesler article on the Swiss Minaret issue. Nothing much has happened yet as a result of the Swiss vote, but something will most likely. Phyllis points out how we never hear about proportional response when it comes to Muslims. Below, a section of it:
The Islamic world does not allow new synagogues or churches to be built. Further: Muslim fundamentalists currently persecute, torture, and murder those Christians who dare remain in the Middle East, and they kidnap, forcibly convert, and “marry” their very young daughters.
It is time to demand—or at least to expect–reciprocity. Otherwise, we are really being racist in having one (higher) standard for Westerners and another (much lower) standard for the barbarians.
Granted: The West is not as barbaric and intolerant as the Islamic world; we do not willingly wish to become intolerant. Yet, tolerating the intolerant is unwise, or as the Jewish sages tell us: Being kind to the cruel results in cruelty to the kind.
It would apper that now one is a ‘racist’ if one believes that national identity should be allowed and those who wish to impose foreign views on it should not do so. I bet that only applies though if the nation is white. No one seems to think its racist if an Arab state insists that no foreign ideas should even be considered, or if an African state like Zimbabwe actually throws people off of their land or out of their homes on the sole basis of skin color as they did to the white farmers. Then somehow that isn’t racist. But when French citizens feel that French national identity should have something to do with France well that is downright racist. Culture. Kadhafi claims that the Swiss Minaret ban is an invitation to Al-queda to attack the Swiss. Kadhafi no doubt thinks that would be an appropriate response. Of course, it would only prove the Swiss, and by extension the rest of Europe who clearly would all ban the building of more minarets if given the chance, correct that a minaret is indeed a symbol of Islamic manifest destiny. If Muslims do terrorist acts on Switzerland for not allowing minarets, then we should be nuking meca for what they do not allow in terms of competing ideologies.H/T TROP

SPANISH police have arrested nine men suspected of seeking to have a woman killed after they accused her of adultery, claiming they were following Islamic law, authorities said.
The men were arrested on November 14 and seven have been held in jail, a police spokesman said.
According to police, the woman had been taken in March and held in an isolated house in Valls in northeastern Catalonia.
Authorities say the men set up a court there to judge her for adultery.
“These men had formed a kind of court to apply (Islamic) sharia law,” the spokesman said, adding the woman told authorities she was tried and sentenced to death.
She was later able to escape and report what happened to police.

Lastly, ministers in the UK are told to avoid using certain words that might offend Muslims. Ok thats not news. We are used to that. I mean we all know that if you use words like ‘soap’ or ‘toothpaste’ you might really offend new Muslim immigrants but now even the words ‘Islamist and Fundamentalist’ are on the no speak list. I was kidding about soap and so on obviously but exactly what is it we are allowed to say or that doesn’t offend these tyrants? Oh yeah, welfare, dole, public housing and ‘not guilty on a technicality’ seem to be OK.

Fighting hate speech charge in Austria
Regular Gates of Vienna readers are familiar with Elisabeth Sabaditsch-Wolff, who recently gave a series of exemplary Counterjihad presentations at the OSCE Human Dimension roundtable in Vienna a few weeks ago.
Those who speak out prominently against Islamization sooner or later face the wrath of the dhimmi establishment. Anyone who sticks his head up over the parapet risks having it shot off.
And so it is for Elisabeth. She dared to speak the truth about Islam. Now, like Geert Wilders and hundreds of other Europeans, she has run afoul of her country’s hate speech laws, and faces prosecution for what she said.

“I Am Against Dialogue”
A criminal complaint is being filed against Elisabeth Sabaditsch-Wolff for “hate speech” under Austrian law, essentially the same thing that Susanne Winter was convicted of early this year.
Elisabeth gave a presentation about Islam at an FPÖ-organized seminar, and said some of the usual things that anti-jihad advocates say when they talk about Islam. A left-wing magazine, which had planted someone in the audience, caused charges to be brought against her at the same time as they publicized it in their magazine.
Elisabeth held the controversial Islam Seminar at the FPÖ-political academy. Charges of defamation of a religious group have been filed against the daughter of a diplomat. This is her only interview in which she explains her views.
Mrs. Sabaditsch-Wolff, are you afraid of Muslims?
No, I am afraid of political Islam, which is massively gaining influence in Europe. That is what I am against.
What is your goal?
I want to preserve Europe and its democratic and secular values.
What bothers you about the Islamic way of life?
Islamic doctrine discriminates against women and non-Muslims. Islamic law, or shariah, cannot be reconciled with democratic principles and universal human rights.
Do you see the need for that?
There are powerful groups who are working towards the Islamization of Europe. That is a fact. What can we gain from closing our eyes and ignoring this? Even Libyan leader Muammar Ghadafi says: “There are signs that Allah will grant victory to Islam in Europe without swords, without guns, without conquest. We don’t need terrorists, we don’t need homicide bombers. The 50+ million Muslims [in Europe] will turn it into a Muslim continent within a few decades.” A head of state confirms what our politicians deny. What else has to happen until we finally get it?
There are people who see the growth of Islam in Europe as an opportunity for a completely re-engineered pluralistic society.
The vision of a pluralistic society does not withstand a reality check. Show me one example where this has been a success. Wherever Muslims have been given the opportunity for self-organization they have established parallel societies. See Berlin-Kreuzberg, see Lyon. See also Great Britain, where parts of shariah have been implemented.

It is great to see a few big media types mocking the situation with respect to Al Gore, climategate and so on. Really of course, American and world citizens should be demanding the complete dismantlement of a ton of institutions, jail for thousands of people and the termination of jobs for tens of thousands more. This is no small thing. Of course, none of that will happen. Why? Because this was never about the climate. If everyone of the people who signed the IPCC report were to appear in black nylons and a Nixon mask and announce that they made it all up and how stupid are the rest of us, nothing would change. It was a totem to bring on more socialism, more western guilt, more pressure on civilization itself and strain the quality of life of those of us that have been virtually prisoners in schools and institutions our whole lives to create wealth, develop new ideas and make the world a better place while advantaging people who basically live according to millennium old superstitions and genuine racism. So this is why I don’t care much about “Climate Gate.” For people who had a commie agenda nothing will change. For people who were intending not to invest in all this crap this will provide ammunition. But at the end of the day, this was never about the climate and these revelations will change nothing.
