Female Genital Mutilation Performed at Cornell University
Female Genital Mutilation Performed at Cornell University
Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) has appeared in the form of “corrective surgery” at a premier American hospital. While we lambaste the practice abroad, some doctors are justifying its use and performing FGM in the United States.
In 1997, it was estimated that 168,000 women and girls had been or were at risk of undergoing FGM. This isn’t just immigrants bringing their cultural practice to the U.S.; as it turns out, FGM is being performed at an Ivy League university. This story demonstrates how our image-obsessed culture is encouraging the mutilation of young girls.
Dr. Dix P. Poppas, head of pediatric urology department at Cornell University’s New York Presbyterian Hospital, one of the premier hospitals in the nation, has been performing clitoral reductions — a.k.a. female genital mutilation — on young girls. The abhorrent practice, according to the good doctor, is humane because it spares girls from the humiliation of having an “oversized” clitoris. He claims the practice is “nerve-sparing” and that he runs tests by prodding and using a vibrator on the young girls after the surgery.
Surgeries, especially ones as delicate as this, can easily go awry, injuring young girls permanently, impeding their sexual lives, reproduction, relationships, and possibly other health complications. And prodding a six-year-old with a vibrator probably won’t tell you whether or not the thousands of nerves in the clitoris that lead to orgasms have really been spared. Not to mention that these follow-up “tests” sound a lot like traumatizing molestation to me.

Fjordman: History of Astrophysics Part V
Once again, Fjordman has honoured Vlad Tepes with a segment of one of his original essays, and a subject close to my heart, History of Astrophysics. Part IV can be read here: Tundra Tablids Fjordman Cosmology Part IV
Even after the introduction of the telescope it took centuries for Western astronomers to work out the true scale of the universe. The English astronomer and architect Thomas Wright (1711-1786) suggested around 1750 that the Milky Way was a disk-like system of stars and that there were other star systems similar to it, only very far away from us. Soon after, Immanuel Kant in 1755 hypothesized that the Solar System is part of a huge, lens-shaped collection of stars and that similar such “island universes” exist elsewhere, too. Kant’s thoughts about the universe, however, were philosophical and had little observational content.
Johann Heinrich Lambert (1728-1777), a Swiss-born mathematician, astronomer and philosopher, “provided the first rigorous proof that ? (the ratio of a circle’s circumference to its diameter) is irrational, meaning that it cannot be expressed as the quotient of two integers.” Lambert, the son of a tailor, was largely self-educated and early in his life began astronomical investigations with instruments he built for himself. He made a number of innovations in the study of heat and light and corresponded with Kant, with whom he shares the honor of being among the first to believe that certain nebulae are disk-shaped galaxies like the Milky Way.
William Herschel’s On the Construction of the Heavens from 1785 was the first quantitative analysis of the Milky Way’s shape based on careful telescopic observations. William Parsons in Ireland with the largest telescope of the nineteenth century, the Leviathan of Parsonstown, was after 1845 able to see the spiral structure of some nebulae, what we call spiral galaxies. Already in 1612 the German astronomer Simon Marius had published the first systematic description of the Andromeda Nebula (Galaxy) from the telescopic era, but he could not resolve it into individual stars. The decisive breakthrough came in the early twentieth century.
The Mount Wilson Observatory in California was founded by George Ellery Hale. He offered the young astronomer Harlow Shapley (1885-1972) a research post. Shapley had earned a Ph.D. at Princeton University in 1913 and in 1921 became director of the Harvard College Observatory. Before 1920 he had made his greatest single scientific discovery: That our galaxy was much bigger than earlier estimates by William Herschel made it out to be, and that the Sun was not close to its center. He didn’t get everything right, though. In the Great Debate with fellow American astronomer Heber Curtis (1872-1942) he argued that the mysterious spiral nebulae were merely gas clouds that were a part of the Milky Way and that everything consisted of one large galaxy: our own. Curtis, on the other hand, claimed that the universe consisted of many galaxies comparable to our own. Shapley was reasonably correct regarding the size of our galaxy, but Curtis was right that our universe is composed of multiple galaxies. Continue Reading →

Thanks again to KitmanTV the premiere finder of all videos that actually matter, here is another channel Four documentary of tremendous importance. Remember #4 also is the UK TV channel that made the excellent and important document, ‘Hidden Mosque’ which revealed how large British mosques, some of which are recipients of huge government money for ‘multi-faith outreach programs’ were in fact teaching hatred and intolerance to all who they could reach.
Here is a new report on sharia law in England which references the above documentary, again thanks to Kitman:

July 7, 2010
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) Northern Command declassified visual evidence of Hezbollah’s buildup in nearly 200 southern Lebanese villages, The Jerusalem Post reported July 7. An IDF delegation was sent to show the evidence to the United Nations and the U.N. Interim Force in Lebanon. The IDF estimates there are around 20,000 Hezbollah militants in southern Lebanon. A senior IDF source said there has been no indication that Syria, Lebanon or Hezbollah plan to attack Israel, Voice of Israel reported. The unnamed official added that he had no information suggesting that Syria had acquired an advanced radar system.
All asylum centers in Norway appear to have been burned to the ground.

Toronto Gay community shows true colors. Again.
Once again, we see that actual gay rights in Toronto take a back seat to hatred of Israel and arguably Jewish people, and of course, the compulsory pushing the leftist party line. I hope that homosexuals in Canada are deeply ashamed by this. If not ashamed, then please organize a nice big public gay pride march in Gaza, the West Bank and Saudi Arabia and Iran. I will gladly help fund raise to get you all over there for it.
By the way, I know that Vlad has some gay readers who would find this segment of the gay community in Toronto and in general to be sad and disgusting. I look forward to your comments and no aspersions are meant to be cast your way.

Imam that Tipped off New York Subway Bomber Leaves America
by IPT News • Jul 6, 2010 at 5:09 pm
http://www.investigativeproject.org/blog/2010/07/imam-that-tipped-off-new-york-subway-bomber
A New York Imam, Ahmad Wais Afzali, has left the United States and agreed not to return as part of a plea agreement in connection with the attempted bombing of the New York City subway system that was thwarted by federal authorities last year.
Last September, federal authorities uncovered a plot to use at least a dozen small backpack bombs to devastate the subway system in New York—an attack which Attorney General Eric Holder called “one of the most serious terrorist threats to our nation since September 11, 2001.” As the case unfolded, new details revealed that while U.S. authorities were investigating the attempted attack, local Imam Afzali inadvertently tipped off the prime suspect.
On September 10, detectives from the New York Police Department met with Afzali, who had served as an informant in the past. During the meeting, detectives showed Afzali photos of Zazi and others. The following day, Afzali contacted Zazi and told him that the police were asking questions about him. According to an affidavit filed in support of an arrest warrant, Afzali said:
“I want to speak with you about something…I want a meeting with you…You probably know why I’m calling you for this meeting…I was exposed to something yesterday from the authorities. And they came to ask me about your characters. They asked me about you guys.
I’m not sure if somebody complained about you. I’m not sure what happened. And I don’t want to know…They said, ‘please, we need to know who they are…what they’re all about.’ … And I told them that they are innocent, law abiding…”
As a result of Afzali’s actions, authorities, who had been recording Zazi’s conversations, were forced to conduct hurried raids to prevent the fleeing of suspects and the destruction of evidence.
Much ado about ‘note-ing’.
A few Israeli soldiers are apparently in deep trouble because of this video clip:
As I understand it, the soldiers actually did this dance to the Muslim caterwaul to prayer. Frankly I think they should get a medal. Mocking irrational religion, especially when it is forced on everyone else, should be rewarded.

NYC residents treated to the amplified call to prayer from mosque
Ok I have an idea. If the Mosque is allowed to blast its call to prayer in a crowded NYC area, then clearly should fifty or a hundred NYC residents choose to get those compressed gas powered football horns or fog sirens and so on, and stand in front of the mosque, and blast them at the same time, surely they cannot be doing anything illegal. I mean, if they are stopped its a pretty clear indication that only Muslims can disturb the peace with that superstitious caterwauling and I can’t see that going over well with anyone who has read the second amendment, and hopefully understands purpose of the second. So to my dear American friends who lives within striking distance of this mosque. Get a few friends together and head down there with the loudest damn thing you can find and lets see what freedom and rights actually mean in Obama’s America.

7/7: the lesson not yet learned
From The Telegraph U.K.
We have not learnt the lesson of the July 7 suicide bombing
In the five years since suicide bombers killed 52 people in London, placatory government policy on Islamist terrorism has achieved little but store up trouble for the future, argues Douglas Murray.
Published: 8:33AM BST 06 Jul 2010
Tomorrow marks the fifth anniversary of the day suicide bombing came to Britain. On July 7, 2005 three young British-born men exploded their devices simultaneously on the London Underground. A fourth man detonated his an hour later on a bus in Tavistock Square. Together they left 52 people dead, many more injured, and a country only starting to realise that a problem it had long exported had found its way home.
While July 7 was the first time that jihadi terrorism had come to British streets, these were not the first streets to which British-born Islamists had brought terror. Two years earlier, two young British men had gone to Mike’s Place, a bar in Tel Aviv, and carried out a suicide bombing. Almost a decade before July 7 – in 1996 – the man said to have been Britain’s first suicide bomber died in Afghanistan, self-detonating to kill opponents of the Taliban forces he was fighting alongside.
By 2005 British-raised jihadis had fought around the world, spurred on by radical clerics at home, backed by British networks and allowed to operate by a government and security service who believed that this was a problem for other people. It took 10 years for Britain to extradite to France the Algerian man accused of blowing up the Paris Metro in 1995. Britain had become a soft touch: a magnet for foreign jihadis and a hub of home-grown radicalisation.
To coincide with the fifth anniversary of July 7 this week, the Centre for Social Cohesion is releasing Islamist Terrorism: the British Connections. It is a 500-page, telephone directory-sized work that aims to present an overview of every traceable Islamist convicted of Islamism-inspired terrorist offences and attacks over the last decade. It also examines the scope of British-linked Islamism-inspired terrorism threats worldwide since 1993, listing many foreign combatants and extradition cases and British citizens convicted abroad.
It presents a timeline of the jihad, a list of the major networks and analysis of the data, presenting the most accurate picture possible of what makes up a violent British Islamist. Terrorism expert Marc Sageman has already said it “will become the indispensable reference for any future inquiry into British neo-jihadi terrorism”. Yet it is a work that neither the Home Office nor the Crown Prosecution Service, nor any other department of government, has got around to compiling.
Contrary to government claims, there are very clear pointers as to what makes up the average individual convicted of an Islamist-inspired offence. As the profiles of 127 convictions and attacks show, the overwhelming majority of those involved (96 per cent) are men; 68 per cent are under 30; 32 per cent of those convicted have links to proscribed organisations – 14.5 per cent had links with al-Qaeda, while the largest number (15 per cent) were linked to the now banned al-Muhajiroun; and 31 per cent attended terrorist training camps abroad.
The idea that lack of opportunities, poverty or lack of education are more than an aggravating factor is not supported by the findings. A minimum of 31 per cent of those convicted of Islamist-related offences had at some point attended university or a higher education institute. Among these, as the University College London Christmas Day bomber reminded us, are people who have attended some of our finest institutions.
And the idea that a terrorist cannot to some extent be racially profiled is also wrong. Government should not ignore facts because they are difficult. Almost half of those convicted were of south-central Asian ancestry (46 per cent) – though this is lower than the percentage of Muslims in the UK who have such ancestry. But apologists for jihadis often try to claim that profiling is counter-productive. In fact, as one arm of surveillance, it can be very productive indeed.
The Intelligence and Security Committee inquiry into the July 7 bombings, published in May last year, queried the lack of a database like the one we have produced, concluding: “The Committee is both disappointed and concerned that such a simple, yet essential, piece of the evidence base – the successful conviction of terrorists – was not only unused, but was not even available.”
There may be many reasons for this oversight, not least that government is now busy trying to deal with the problem it allowed to go unchallenged and even fuelled for years. But it may also be because in the wake of the
July 7 bombs a polite fiction has crept into the British body politic – a fatal unwillingness to deal with facts and unpleasant truths. Our Security Service’s efforts have been hugely successful – since September 11, 2001 a major plot has been thwarted nearly every year – but politically, this country’s policy for dealing with radical Islam has gone off at a terrible tangent and may actually be storing up problems for the future.
It started with Tony Blair who, in the wake of the London bombs, said he would change “the rules of the game”. But the rules did not change. Blair could have used the opportunity to expel foreign clerics, to pursue and lock up those who had gone to training camps, and to start explaining not how people could understand Islam better but how Islam should understand Britain better.
Instead of arguing the case for our values and the non-negotiability of our way of life, Blair and his colleagues treated the radicalisation of young Muslims as a theological issue. Via the “Prevent” strategy, millions of pounds were poured into programmes designed to encourage a different version of Islam from that of some radical ideologues. But money was spent on grassroots events at which radical preachers spoke; there was support, too, for organisations affiliated to groups such as the radical Muslim Brotherhood to carry out proselytising, or dawah, work. In many cases, both here and abroad, the government decided to ally with those who were political opponents of violent groups, but who were themselves only opposed to violence in particular contexts.
Blair’s advisory committees included people who were on record expressing admiration for Osama bin Laden, people who believe British foreign policy is dictated by Jews and Freemasons, and those at best equivocal about the use of suicide bombing in certain contexts. And as usual, once government got involved, it found a way for itself to get involved more. A whole department dedicated itself to pumping out the lie that the problem was not Islamist extremism, but “violent extremism”; not jihadism but what the home secretary at the time of the Glasgow airport bombing and the attempted bombing in Haymarket, Jacqui Smith, requested be re-termed “anti-Islamic activity”.
This was all part of a concerted attempt to placate Muslim demagogues who teach grievance, as well as ordinary Muslims who might feel under pressure, by pretending that absolutely anybody could become a suicide bomber – a pretence that allows Muslim leaders and communities off the hook entirely. There are many security threats facing this country. There are the continuing efforts by Irish republicans who have not accepted the Good Friday Agreement. There are the so-called “lone-wolf” white racists like the Brixton, Soho and Brick Lane bomber David Copeland. But by far and away the greatest security threat, our Security Service estimates, is the threat of what it terms “al-Qaeda and al-Qaeda-inspired terrorism”. Yet government has been desperate to evade this fact.
The Security Service believes that more than 2,000 people in the UK pose a terrorist threat; in March 2005, it was estimated that up to 200 al-Qaeda operatives were in the UK. In January of this year the terror threat level was raised from “substantial” to “severe”, meaning an attack is “highly likely”.
Our police and Security Service continue to do the hard work of preventing actual attacks, and have been remarkably successful. Yet for the past five years the major political parties have failed in their principal task, which should be to argue for British values. MPs who have spoken out frankly have been silenced or reprimanded by their parties. Outspoken critics of radical Islam have been sidelined or ignored.
Senior counter-terrorism officials have made clear that it is a matter of “when” not “if” the next July 7 occurs. By engaging extremists and sidelining not just progressive Muslims but also the mainstream opinions of British society, government has done much to store up far more problems in the future. In the long run, is it better for Britain to Islamicise or for Islam to become more British? Any government worthy of governing Britain should be able to answer that clearly.

A dip in the dark: Muslims demand swimming pool windows be covered to protect modesty

Swimmers plunged into dark after council covers swimming pool windows ‘to protect Muslim women’s modesty’
By Daily Mail Reporter
Last updated at 3:04 PM on 5th July 2010
A council has sparked anger after officials blacked out windows on a glass-panelled swimming pool to protect the modesty of Muslim women.
Darlaston Leisure Centre in the West Midlands’ town of Walsall, was hailed for its ‘ultra-modern’ design when it opened ten years ago.
But now council staff have covered 250 windows with dark-tinted film following complaints from Muslim swimmers.
Dispute:The swimming pool in Darlaston, near Wolverhampton, West Midlands, where some users are unhappy by the council’s decision to cover windows with an opaque film
No looking please: The clear glass panes towards the bottom of the pool’s outer wall have been covered in a frosted film to prevent people outside looking in
But other users say the move has plunged the pool into almost permanent darkness and branded it ‘political correctness gone stark-raving mad’.
Pauline Poole, 65, a retired legal secretary from Walsall, said: ‘I returned to swimming after having a cataracts operation some months ago and was looking forward to looking out on some lovely trees while swimming.
‘What I found was a situation that reminded me of how it felt like before my operation, like looking at a horrible cloudy view.
‘If it was done for a minority of people, then why was there no vote on it?’
Retired building surveyor John Ewart, 63, from Walsall, added: ‘I cannot believe this council has agreed to something so loony.
‘The whole thing smacks of political correctness gone stark raving mad.
‘A lot of the people who swim are elderly or retired and they now have to swim in the gloom.’
A worker at the pool, who did not want to be named, said: ‘The windows were covered up and it’s probably cost a few hundred pounds.
‘Several customers complained it made the pool dark and dingy but we didn’t have a choice.’
The council initially refused to replace the windows with frosted glass because it was too expensive.
Today, the council defended the decision, saying they had ‘listened to the concerns of users’.
Councillor Anthony Harris said: ‘I’m pleased that we’ve been able to make these modifications because not only does it show we’re listening to the views and concerns of our users but also because it enhances the privacy of swimmers.’
A spokeswoman for Walsall Council said the complaints had predominantly come from the Muslim community but that non-Muslim women had also objected.
She said: ‘We received a request from the Muslim Community to protect the modesty of swimmers.
‘There were also requests made by some non-Muslim users as well.’
