Robert Sibley: “Don’t blame the West”.

Don’t blame the West

The ‘root causes’ of Islamist terrorism do not lie in poverty or western imperialism, but an age old conflict between reason and revelation

During the last decade of Islamist terrorism, numerous commentators, particularly those on the left, have adopted a materialist approach to explain why some Muslims want to slaughter guests at hotels in Mumbai or detonate bombs at Christmas festivals in Sweden.

Terrorism, they argue, is rooted in poverty, frustration over the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, and memories of western imperialism. In other words, so the argument goes, the West itself is to blame for terrorism. If only the West would apologize, make reparations, abandon Israel, leave the Middle East and Afghanistan, all would be well. Or at least that’s where the root-cause crowd’s assumptions logically lead.

The problem with this materialist view of terrorism is that it largely misses the spiritual motivations that inform Islamist geo-politics. As political theorist Barry Cooper argues in his book, New Political Religions, or, An Analysis of Modern Terrorism, the Islamists, like the Nazis and Communists, are motivated more by a “disease of the spirit” than materialist aspirations. “When ordinary human beings see themselves as specially chosen by God, or even as gods themselves, they are not necessarily psychopaths, but they most definitely are spiritually disordered.”

Cooper draws on Eric Voegelin, a 20th-century political philosopher who coined the term “pneumopathology” to account for the spiritual diseases of the modern world. Voegelin argued that some people — politicians, intellectuals, journalists, for example — prefer to see the world as a projection of their desires rather than comprehend its reality. Such fabulists effectively live in what Voegelin called a “second-order reality.” If they acquire power they all-too-often pursue extreme measures — genocide, gulags, crashing airplanes into buildings — to transform the world to suit their fantasies of perfection.

In the case of the Islamists, they imagine Islam spreading across the globe and the establishment of a worldwide caliphate based on shariah law. They see themselves empowered by Allah to bring about this new world order by destroying a civilization they regard as spiritually empty. Thus, Islamism constitutes a political religion of apocalyptic proportions. Continue Reading →

Graphic: Anatomy of a stoning NATIONAL POST

November 20, 2010 – 10:11 am

In Saturday’s National Post we look at the brutal practice of stoning. This method of execution is still practiced in certain countries, notably Iran, where it is used to punish adulterers and other criminals. The graphic below looks at how a stoning occurs (click on graphic for a full-size version):

Dec 10 2010 More Muslims take over more Paris streets.

The Tundra Tabloids updates this post by Vlad:

UPDATE: Here is the map where the Muslims are praying in the street along the length of the Poissonnier.

Rue Polonceau with the mosque on the right side

Looking up the Poissonnier with the mosque on the right

Looking down the Poissonnier in the opposite direction

NOTE: This latter part of the street where they were (and are still) praying faces closer to Mecca than the rest, with the middle to latter end completely off. This is all in the same vicinity of the Myrha street praying. The TT didn’t really understand the magnitude of the area being taken over by these Muslims, it extends a major portion of the latter end of the poissonier street. It’s no wonder why they’re now incorporating the use of loud speakers, the size of the take over has increased.

Rape victims fear being jailed in Mauritania

This article fails to mention that Mauritania, the proper name of which is ‘The Islamic Republic of Mauritania, still has open and legal slave trading markets.

STORY HIGHLIGHTS

  • Rights groups working to get a law defining rape in Mauritania
  • Currently rape victims can be jailed for having sex outside marriage
  • Victims also pressured by social stigma attached to rape
  • One woman tells CNN: Mauritania is no place for rape victims like me

Nouakchott, Mauritania (CNN) — Mahjouba was raped in March on the nighttime streets of Mauritania’s capital, but she will not bring charges against the man she says did it since she may be the one who ends up in prison. The 25-year-old says the legal advice she received was to not go to court, leaving her to suffer in silence.

There is no law in Mauritania that defines rape.

According to a local U.N.-funded group working with the victims, the law criminalizes the women instead of their rapists — and society ostracizes the women.

Mahjouba, who asked not to use her real name, said: “I am sure that if I raise my voice I’m going to be criminalized by my society and I will pay the price harshly … and as a result I may stay single for the rest of my life.”

She added: “I consulted a lawyer secretly, and he advised me sincerely not to seek justice because that would throw me in jail. I know what happened to other girls who decided to go to court and face the community. Their lives were destroyed completely forever. So I already know what would happen to me if I had to follow that path.

“This Islamic republic has no place for rape victims like me.”

Mauritanian laws are based on Sharia law and the penal code forbids relationships between both sexes outside marriage. That includes a consensual relationship between a boyfriend and girlfriend but can also criminalize a woman who is forced to have sex. Continue Reading →

A contrast on 2 book burnings.

The important French web site, Bivouac, made an important observation. One Florida pastor, a certain Pastor Terry Jones, received massive MSM condemnation from media in the USA and abroad, most notably in the UK, for planning to burn copies of the Koran which were his personal property. He wished to do this as a statement about how Muslims treat Christians and other non Muslims around the world, and demand to build Mosques in the US right where thousands of unsuspecting American civilians were slaughtered at work by Muslims in the name of Islam. Agree with him or not, the media attention he received was not flattering and was copious.

Contrast that with this story:

Islamic Militants Destroy Underground Christian Library in Somalia

In the above story, the Christian books were not the property of Al Shabaab. They were forcibly taken (Stolen is not a strong enough term) and burned en masse in the city centre to make a very strong statement about how any religion other than Islam will not be tolerated. Yet the mainstream media is deadly silent. One has to get this from essentially underground Christian press, which seems to be the last bastion of freedom of speech and accurate reporting left on Earth.

The latest WikiLeaks revelation: 1 in three British Muslim students back killing for Islam and 40% want Sharia law

Around a third of young British Muslims favour killing in the name of Islam, according to a survey revealed by the WikiLeaks’ publication of U.S diplomatic cables.

A survey of 600 Muslim and 800 non-Muslim students at 30 universities throughout the UK conducted by the Centre for Social Cohesion found that 32 percent of Muslims on UK campuses believe killing in the name of religion is justified.

A U.S. diplomatic cable from January 2009 quoted the same poll as saying 54 per cent wanted a Muslim party to represent their world view in Parliament and 40 per cent want Muslims in the UK to be under Sharia law.

The survey results, revealed by WikiLeaks’ release of thousands of U.S. diplomatic cables, suggests increasing radicalisation among Britain’s young Muslims.

A further U.S. cable, dated February 5 2009, said reaching out to Britain’s Muslim community there was a ‘top priority’ for U.S. embassy staff.

“Although people of Muslim faith make up only 3 to 4 percent of the UK’s population, outreach to this key audience is vital to U.S. foreign policy interests in the UK and beyond. … This is a top Mission priority,” stated the cable.

The February cable outlined a plan encompassing ‘engagement and community capacity-building’ to counter the possible growth of ‘violent extremism’ in the UK.

The outreach plan for British Muslims was published a month after a cable that revealed that while the community had grown to more than 2 million, unemployment rates were higher among Muslim men and women than in any other religion.

Muslims were also found to have the highest disability rates – with 24 per cent of men and 21 per cent of women claiming a disability – while the cable also cited statistics claiming Muslims were also the most likely group to be unavailable for work or not actively seeking employment due to illness, their studies or family commitments.
Not engaged: U.S. diplomatic cables suggested more needs to be done to work with British Muslims against extremism

Sudan investigates case of woman seen being flogged on YouTube clip

Footage sparks international condemnation as police laugh and joke as they administer whipping to screaming woman

  • Screengrab from a YouTube clip of a woman being lashed in a carpark by police in Sudan. Screengrab from a YouTube clip of a woman being lashed in a carpark by police in Sudan.Sudan‘s judiciary has launched an investigation into the public flogging of a woman after footage of her being whipped by laughing policemen was posted to the internet.

The YouTube video shows an unidentified woman in a long black dress and a headscarf being ordered to sit down in a parking lot (Warning: Video contains graphic images of violence some may find disturbing).

A uniformed policeman proceeds to whip her all over her body as she screams in pain. A second officer laughs when he realises he is being filmed, before joining in the punishment, which lasts a minute and a half.

Flogging is relatively common is northern Sudan, where sharia law is often enforced arbitrarily. But the cruel, nonchalant behaviour of the security forces amid the distress of the victim in this case caused a stir in the country and the diaspora, and even attracted condemnation in some pro-government newspapers.

Initially Sudan’s deputy police chief, Adel Al-Agib, tried to downplay the incident, saying that the footage was circulated in order to damage the image of the country, according to the Sudan Tribune newspaper.

But the judicial authority, which oversees the legal system, released a statement yesterday saying it had launched an official inquiry to see if the punishment had been administered improperly.

“The investigation was started immediately after the images of the young woman, being punished under Articles 154 and 155 of the 1991 Sudanese penal code, appeared on the internet,” the judiciary said in a statement, according to state media.

These articles allow up to 100 lashes for adultery and running a brothel, in addition to a jail sentence. In this case the woman’s alleged crime is not known, although comments on social media sites suggest it could have been the wearing of trousers, which has in the past been judged to violate a law governing “indecent or immoral dress”. The Sharia Shack: Toronto halal restaurant seats women in separate section.

img05161.jpg

This story first came to light when posted on Small Dead Animals, one of Canada’s more influential blogs, thanks to a reader who sent in the photograph. It appears the owners and operators of Juba Restaurant feel perfectly comfortable applying sharia standards in a public establishment. Canadian values do not support gender segregation; men and women are considered equal in all aspects of life, with legal statutes firmly in place reflecting this societal value. Sharia law considers gender mixing unIslamic, so it stands to reason that the good Muslims over at Juba’s sharia shack would defy both the value of gender equality and the laws supporting it.

Purdah, the separation of men and women, is based upon the central theme of Namus (honour) and is expected in public in many Islamic countries. Religious Saudis believe it is forbidden for a woman to eat in public as part of her veil would have to be removed to do so, revealing her face which would compromise purdah. For this reason, segregation is especially strict in restaurants and it is common for establishments to have defined areas for women only often marked as “family” and “women section only”. It is common to see western restaurant chains with both separate entrances and seating sections as they too, must abide by sharia standards. This McDonald’s in Riyhad comes complete with a segregated section where women must sit in the “family” section.

File-McDonald's_branch,_Takkassusi_street,_Riyadh,_Saudi_Arabia.jpg

Sharia law is not legal in Canada. and this is not Saudi Arabia, Iran, Pakistan or any other country where sharia is the standard. This is Canada where Islamic law finds little, if any respect.

I might add, restaurants in Canada have been declared public property, and that was the entire basis for the now nation wide smoking bans. If a restaurant is considered public property, even though I do not believe it is, for the purpose of social engineering, then surely the kind of gender apartheid, (using the word correctly for once) being applied in this restaurant must be illegal and certainly should be stopped. This will only encourage Muslim men who are trying to make certain that women from Muslim nations will not and cannot integrate into Western society, and make it that much easier to force them to standards here in Canada, that should not apply even in the Islamic Magreb.

Pakistani imam offers reward for murder of Christian woman

Accused of blasphemy, but actually acquitted by a Pak court as I understand the story. Frankly, blasphemy isn’t a real charge so I don’t really care if she is innocent or guilty as its a non crime anyway and even if it was, random people offering a reward for her murder, well that doesn’t even happen to people like Clifford Olden or Charles Manson in real nations. Also, I have a pretty good idea what would happen to me if I offered for example, $50.00 to anyone who kills this imam who put the bounty on this woman. And frankly, rightfully so. Interpol would be after me. So why do these guys get away with it every single time?

Thanks again FOOMF for this great find. I owe ya man.
