Extreme Dawa Downunder.

Recently here in Australia, there’s been an islamic convert in the news.

Ibrahim Siddiq-Conlon is no shrinking violet when it comes to speaking his piece.

He was recently gave an interview on the radio station 2UE in Sydney.

Transcription here.

If you listen to Ibrahim, his tone is quite reasonable. This is because he’s trying to persuade us peacefully, as he’s supposed to.

That’s all well and good, but of course keeping it nice means that he can’t answer a question about bringing the stoning of adulterers into the legislation here. He can only dance around it and say, “Oh, not that old thing.”

Unfortunately for Ibrahim (formerly Shannon), those sorts of practices under sharia law are rather well-known, and have been getting plenty of airplay.

Another thing to consider is that there are muslims in Australia who agree with the message, but not the way it’s presented.

In Ibrahim’s case, he’s out and proud when it comes to sharia, even to the extent of participating in a public debate on the subject.

He thinks it’s inevitable, but there are a lot of people who disagree with him.

People like his debating partner Jack:

00:10 Masked audience member: My question is, what are you gonna do the day the mujahadin, the sons of allah come here, whether by air by plane [?] or by foot?

0:21 Jack: When I was sixteen years of age, I gave an oath to defend this country against all enemies foreign and domestic. I have not been relinquished [sic] of that oath.

One last point that Ibrahim seems to have forgotten, and muslims don’t seem to get. Here in Australia, we are known for taking the mickey out of people. People who are full of themselves, who presume to tell others what to do.

We don’t take too kindly to being ordered around, and we find ways to puncture pomposity:

On January 19, 2011, on the first year anniversary of the Naga Hammadi rally, another rally was held in Martin Place. This protest was organized by Australian Coptic Movement (ACM) in conjunction with the Coptic Orthodox Diocese of Sydney and its Affiliated Regions.

The objective of this rally was to protest the recent Alexandrian bombings. In this latest attack against Christians, official numbers report 23 died and 87 were injured; making this incident the single worst attack against Christians in a decade, one of three in less than 12 months and one of hundreds committed over 39 years.

This protest saw thousands of people from all suburbs of Sydney and walks of life, attend, despite the bad weather. Copts, Melkites, Assyrians, Catholics and those of other denominations and faiths were some of the few who attended.

Also in attendance were dignitaries from different parties and different backgrounds, who braved the morning showers and who were able to attend despite the ongoing floods in Queensland and Victoria – underscoring the importance of our protest and the fact that we are all Australians and that Copts are Australian before they are Egyptian.

Those in attendance included, Senator Concetta Firravanti–Wells, the Senator for NSW and who was sent as a representative on behalf of the Hon. Mr. Tony Abbott MP, the Federal Opposition leader. Also in attendance was Greg Donnelly MLC, representing NSW Premier, Kristina Kenneally.

Additionally, the Hon. Craig Kelly MP, Liberal member for Hughes, the very Rev. Fred Nile MLC, president of the Christian Democratic Party and the Hon. David Clarke MLC, parliamentary secretary of the NSW Shadow Attorney – General.

After the aforementioned guests delivered the impassioned and much appreciated speeches, the protestors travelled from Martin Place to the Department of Foreign Affairs and Tradin (DFAT), on Pitt Street. Continue Reading →

Interview with Sergio Redegalli, Painter of the ‘No Burka’ mural in Australia

This is an interview that I conducted with Australian artist Sergio Redegalli this morning via Skype as he waited for various leftist groups to make good on their threat to firebomb his studio. The police told him that it was likely going to be tonight and as I spoke with him, it was about midnight in Australia.

More on this story here.

Police report on the violent Anti-anti burka protest in Oz:

More to come on this. The following is related to this event posted yesterday on Vlad:

Watch any news site in the area closely over the next week. I hope not to have more on this, but I suspect I will. The artist, Sergio, who did the mural with the burka and the circle and the line through it, police have warned him that his studio may be firebombed in the near future. I am told that fashion designers that have used, or planned to use the burka as part of a fashion show have in fact had their studios firebombed so Sergio is taking this threat very seriously.

I hope to have a recent (several hours from now, It’s Australia so it happened hours ago in one sense but not yet in another) radio interview with Sergio up online once the station publishes it as a podcast.

Apparently the calls to the studio after the interview were also very revealing.

My best to Sergio. I hope and wish all artists could show the moral courage that he does. Most fold like a cheap suit to the pressure of fashion and leftism or whatever pays the bills and gets them laid. To see an artist ready to come out for what matters despite the winds of fashion is rare despite the image artists like to project of being so ‘avant-garde’ and courageous. In truth, most artists are the most conformist bunch of professionals out there.

for the moment, here is the public police report:

Terror threat on Australian churches

From The Australian:

THREATS of terror attacks on at least four Australian churches prompted police to protect thousands of Coptic Christians during their Christmas Eve services.

Police yesterday surrounded the Coptic Orthodox churches in Sydney after a bomb blast killed 21 people during a New Year’s Eve Coptic church service in Alexandria, Egypt.

Coptic Churches around the world are also on high alert as their Christmas Eve services are scheduled for tomorrow.

On Thursday night in Sydney, bomb searches and police helicopters were part of the security measures that soured Christmas Eve celebrations.

Some church officials are worried that an attack may eventuate when least expected on any on of their churches, monasteries or schools in Australia.

A police detail searched St Antonious and St Paul parish in Guildford, in Sydney’s west, yesterday afternoon prior to its 7pm Christmas Eve services, a church official told AAP.

During the service, teams of officers surrounded the area while helicopters with spotlights searched the local suburb.

“There were threats to our church – three or four churches in the (Sydney) Coptic church,” said the man who asked not to be identified.

He said NSW Police contacted the church this week to say the Guildford site and three others in Sydney had been the target of a terrorist threat. Continue Reading →

KFC employee loses it when customer asks for bacon

A man asked for bacon at a halal KFC in a Sydney Australia suburb next to the home of Australia’s ‘Cat meat Mufti’ ‘Hilarious Hilali’. The employee summarily flips out:

Here is the story from Ninemsn.com:

A worker at a KFC restaurant in Sydney has been suspended after he was filmed screaming vicious insults and threatening to attack a customer.

The violent outburst happened at a Halal-friendly KFC in Punchbowl on December 26, allegedly after a customer became angry after being refused bacon on their burger.

The Punchbowl restaurant does not serve bacon or pork in accordance with Islamic law, and one employee can be heard saying “we don’t have bacon” before the other begins yelling.

“Don’t record me bitch!” he screams as he approaches the counter. “Don’t f—ing record me!”

The employee continues to yell and smacks the cash register display on its side, before other workers grab him and lead him outside.

“I’m gonna f—in break your head bro,” he says to the person filming as he is led around the corner out of sight.

A spokesman for KFC Australia told ninemsn the employee had been suspended over the incident and offered counselling.

“KFC Australia strongly condemns the behaviour of the team member who appears in the clip and sincerely apologises for this very inappropriate reaction,” the spokesman said.

But the spokesman also said the employee may have been harassed by the customer before his meltdown.

“As part of our continuing investigation, KFC has been offered statements from other customers who were in the store at the time,” the spokesman said.

“These statements indicate a customer had directed offensive language and became abusive towards the team member when the customer’s preferred selection was not available at that store.”

The video was posted online by YouTube user “farkie”, who wrote that the outburst stemmed from an argument over bacon.

“We asked for bacon on the burger, when we complained about there being no bacon,” they wrote.

KFC said their investigation into the incident was ongoing.

Muslim teenage girl takes out AVO over clash of cultures

From The Daily Telegraph:

A MUSLIM girl caught between her religion, her parents and wanting to be a typical Aussie teenager is at the centre of an apprehended violence order against her father after he found she had a boyfriend.

Police were called to the family home after the man threatened to kill himself and the 14-year-old girl when he discovered the boy in a room of their home, Parramatta Bail Court heard yesterday.

The man, who cannot be named, allegedly told police the relationship was disrespectful to Muslim culture and brought shame on his family in the Afghan community.

The court heard he tried to detain the boy in the early hours of New Year’s Day at the house in Blacktown.

The family called police because they were scared the father would kill the boy.

After police arrived, the man became enraged because they would not arrest the boy, who had been invited into the house by his daughter.
