Teenage girl ‘murdered by father’

Tulay Goren's body has never been found

Tulay Goren's body has never been found

BBCNEWS… A girl who disappeared a decade ago was murdered by her father in a so-called “honour killing”, a court has heard.

Tulay Goren, 15, a Kurdish Turk from Woodford Green, north London, vanished in 1999 and her body has never been found, the Old Bailey was told.

Her father Mehmet Goren, 49, and uncles Cuma Goren, 42, and Ali Goren, 55, both from Walthamstow, all deny murder.

The men also deny conspiracy to murder her boyfriend, Halil Unal, 30, between May 1998 and February 1999.

Tulay was last seen alive on 7 January 1999 with her father Mehmet Goren, of Navestock Crescent, Woodford Green, who is alleged to have killed her later that day.

Jonathan Laidlaw QC, prosecuting, said Tulay was killed “to restore the so-called honour” of the family, who originate from Turkey.

The term was an “appalling and inappropriate way” to “dignify” the offence, he added.

Mr Laidlaw said the murder could not have taken place without the “approval and permission” of Mehmet Goren’s older brother Ali Goren, of Brettenham Road, Walthamstow, who was was many miles away from London at the time.

Mr Goren’s younger brother Cuma, of Evesham Avenue, Walthamstow, was consulted about the decision.

Mr Laidlaw said it was not clear whether he was present during the killing but it appeared he was involved in the “clean-up and disposal” of the body.

“What ultimately caused the most terrible of problems within this family and was ultimately to lead to Tulay’s murder was a relationship she formed in London with a man called Halil Unal,” he added.

American Apostates from Islam Affirm Their Freedom

by Baron Bodissey

Nonie Darwish is a well-known former Muslim. She was born in Egypt, converted out of Islam, and now lives in the United States. But even here — in a country where freedom of speech and freedom of religion are constitutionally guaranteed — she faces intimidation and harassment for daring to leave Islam.

As Phyllis Chesler wrote yesterday:

Nonie DarwishNonie Darwish, the warmest, sanest, least prejudiced Egyptian whom I know, has both been attacked and has not been defended by the administrative elite at the Whittier College Law School where she is scheduled to speak later today. According to Steven Emerson, the Muslim Student Association on campus defamed Darwish and tried to stop or at least delay her presentation.

Not surprising. They specialize in such demonization and censorship campaigns. Darwish pleads the case of Muslim women whose human rights are seriously violated by shariah law. But the academic administrators at Whittier Law School have not strongly defended her right to speak, nor have they praised her work. This is unforgivable; according to Emerson, many happen to be women who are also feminists.

This is a process that has become all too familiar in recent years as courageous apostates from Islam have been abandoned by both civil libertarians and feminists. The hypocrisy of the progressive Left is now completely exposed: the human rights that they have putatively championed for all these years are not universal. When Islam walks through the door, the Left falls suddenly and mysteriously silent about the right of Muslims to choose their own destiny.

However, America’s former Muslims aren’t waiting for the approval of the Left to assert their freedom. They’ve organized a new group called Former Muslims United under the leadership of Nonie Darwish, Mohammed Asghar, Amil Imani, Wafa Sultan and Ibn Warraq:

Former Muslims United was formed in September, 2009 by a group of leading American apostates from Islam — Nonie Darwish (Director), Mohammed Asghar, Amil Imani, Wafa Sultan and Ibn Warraq — to educate the American public and policymakers about the need for Muslims to repudiate the threat from authoritative Shariah to the religious freedom and safety of former Muslims. Our national campaign for civil rights and physical safety for former Muslims was launched with the creation of a pledge for Muslim leaders to sign — “ The Muslim Pledge for Religious Freedom and Safety from Harm for Former Muslims.”

The first group of Muslim leaders were sent pledges to coincide with the date September 25, 2009.

I’ll have more to say about the Pledge below. But first, some excerpts from the group’s mission statement:

1. Develop a legal framework for and ensure the civil of American individuals and organizations to provide sanctuary for former Muslims without being subject to legal penalties or threats.
2. Call on all Muslims and their spiritual leaders to reject, publicly and without reservation or exception, all Sharia doctrine that permits or calls for punishment or discrimination against former Muslims, including intimidation and threats against person or property. This rejection of violence applies to individuals, Sharia authorities, Muslim courts or other Sharia bodies, governments, and quasi-governmental bodies.
3. Form a support group to empower and give comfort to former Muslims enabling them to stand up for their religious liberties under the US Constitution.
[…]
7. Demand Muslim leaders reject and denounce all Islamic literature which calls for death or other punishments for former Muslims.

The members of Former Muslims United are tackling the most urgent issue that can be faced by those who have chosen to leave Islam. In any country where there are significant numbers of Muslims, apostates face the risk of death at the hands of their former fellows. Islam permits — indeed, it requires — the death penalty for apostasy, as well as for other crimes such as blasphemy and adultery.

Father, brother to stand trial in girl’s killing

Aqsa Parvez

Aqsa Parvez

The Toronto Star… A Mississauga father and son have been ordered to stand trial next year in a slaying that has attracted international attention.

Justice George Gage today decided there was enough evidence for Muhammad Parvez, now 59, and his son Waqas, now 28, to be tried for the planned and pre-meditated slaying of Aqsa Parvez. They were both committed to trial on a charge of first-degree murder in the strangulation death of Aqsa Parvez.

The 16-year-old student at Applewood Heights Secondary School died on Dec. 10, 2007. Aqsa, known to her friends as “Axa” was the youngest of eight children in the family, which immigrated from Pakistan.

The killing, which some have described as a carefully planned honour killing while others say was a horrible case of uncontrollable domestic violence continues to be the subject of world-wide Internet discussion involving a clash of Western and Middle Eastern cultures.

Evidence presented at the lengthy preliminary hearing and the reasons behind Justice Gage’s decision remain under a court-ordered publication ban.

Iraq- the worst place for homosexuals on earth

From The Guardian U.K.

In an attempt to preserve the honour of Islam, gays are being sought out and brutally murdered by Islamist gangs. Their bodies are found lying in the streets bloodied, broken and ripped to pieces often with their genitals removed. Hardline groups spend hours trolling the internet hunting for gay Iraqi men to attack and murder in the latest spate of deliberate cruelty and surging violence aimed against homosexuals in Iraq.

” It is the easiest way to find those people who are destroying Islam and who want to dirty the reputation we took centuries to build up” Abu Hamizi, terror gang member.

Sitting on the floor, wearing traditional Islamic clothes and holding an old notebook, Abu Hamizi, 22, spends at least six hours a day searching internet chatrooms linked to gay websites. He is not looking for new friends, but for victims.

“It is the easiest way to find those people who are destroying Islam and who want to dirty the reputation we took centuries to build up,” he said. When he finds them, Hamizi arranges for them to be attacked and sometimes killed.

Hamizi, a computer science graduate, is at the cutting edge of a new wave of violence against gay men in Iraq. Made up of hardline extremists, Hamizi’s group and others like it are believed to be responsible for the deaths of more than 130 gay Iraqi men since the beginning of the year alone.

The deputy leader of the group, which is based in Baghdad, explained its campaign using a stream of homophobic invective. “Animals deserve more pity than the dirty people who practise such sexual depraved acts,” he told the Observer. “We make sure they know why they are being held and give them the chance to ask God’s forgiveness before they are killed.” Continue Reading →

Does god hate women? An excellent piece by Nick Cohen

BURKA_MAIN

A while ago, a BBC producer phoned to tell me I had written a “controversial” book. I knew that already, and gathered from the teeth-sucking sound coming down the line that she did not approve.

“So,” she continued, “we’ve lined up four guests to argue against you.”

I told her to go away — maybe I used a stronger term — and then thought about her predicament. As a biased broadcaster, she wanted to hear my book denounced, but she could not risk organising a one-on-one debate. Maybe I would have come out on top. More probably, some listeners would have agreed with me, others with my opponent, as is the normal way of things. By arranging her show to make it four against one, however, she could maintain the illusion of impartiality while creating the impression in listeners’ mind that the consensus was overwhelmingly against arguments she found uncomfortable. In the interests of “balance” and of letting “everyone have their say”, she would fill 80 per cent of the airtime with advocates of her own political position. I have watched out for rigged debates ever since. They are the surest signal the BBC dares send that an idea does not deserve a hearing in polite society.

Ophelia Benson did not quite get the four-on-one treatment when she appeared on Radio 3’s cultural talk show Nightwaves to discuss a “controversial” book she has co-authored with Jeremy Stangroom. They gave her a mere two opponents, and the presenter tried to be fair. Still, when one adversary stopped disparaging her, the other started, as the BBC flashed warning signs to listeners to ignore her.

If they missed the point, the press banged it home. The Independent denounced Benson and Stangroom “as inflammatory in the extreme”; authors who produce “torrents of invective” and “show no desire to go beyond name-calling and distortion.” The Guardian accused them of “crudeness and lack of insight”. It was “staggered anyone wanted to publish” them, and concluded that only a base desire to make money could explain the release of a “profoundly intellectually dishonest”, “hysterical” and “bizarre” work. My own newspaper, the Observer, was slightly more temperate, but not so the casual reader would notice. Benson and Stangroom were not original thinkers but had “trawled through newspaper articles”. They “splutter with righteous anger”, their style “clunky”, “hammering” and “repetitive”, their arguments “flimsy” and “deadening”.

Readers who imagine that Benson and Stangroom were on the receiving end of the fullest stomach-load of bile literary London has brought up this year because they were making the case for white supremacy or the return of the death penalty do not understand the dark turn Western thought took between the late 20th and early 21st centuries. Benson and Stangroom’s book is Does God Hate Women?, which the predecessors of today’s critics would have hailed as a feminist classic.

“So does God hate women?” it asks.

Well, what can one say. Religious authorities and conservative clerics worship a wretchedly cruel unjust vindictive executioner of a God. They worship a God of 10-year-old boys, a God of playground bullies, a God of rapists, of gangs, of pimps. They worship — despite rhetoric about justice and compassion — a God who sides with the strong against the weak, a God who cheers for privilege and punishes egalitarianism. They worship a God who is  a male and who gangs up with other males against women. They worship a thug. They worship a God who thinks little girls should be married to grown men. They worship a God who looks on in approval when a grown man rapes a child because he is “married” to her. They worship a God who thinks a woman should receive 80 lashes with a whip because her hair wasn’t completely covered. They worship a God who is pleased when three brothers hack their sisters to death with axes because one of them married without their father’s permission.

Saudi Columnist Attacks Custom of Honor Killing in Saudi Society

MEMRI… Recently, in Saudi Arabia, two sisters were murdered by their brother after they were picked up by the Saudi religious police on suspicion of hanging around with boys. The incident inflamed the Saudi press, particularly because the brother killed them immediately after their father arrived to collect them from the police station. In her column in the Saudi daily Al-Watan, liberal Saudi columnist Maliha Al-Shahhab wrote that Saudi society was backsliding, and that honor killing was just like the custom of burying girls alive that prevailed during the Jahiliyya  – which, she said, was one of the customs that Islam came to eradicate.

Following is a translation of her column, which was titled “[The Custom] of Burying Girls Alive is Still With Us”:

“Early last month, a catastrophe shocked [our] society. The publication of the news in the papers caused a deluge [of reactions] from writers. As for me, I was not just shocked; I simply could not comprehend it, and it took me some time to understand what had taken place.

“Two girls in the dawn of their youth, aged 15 and 16… [and] not yet emerged from the cocoon of innocence, were suspected [of hanging around with boys] and were apprehended [by the religious police]. The officials who arrested them were from this society, and knew better than anyone how a family reacts to being informed of such an incident involving one of its daughters, and also what a girl would be exposed to on the part of her family and society after being arrested. But these [officials] had no pity for the girls, [despite] the air of girlhood wafting from them, and they phoned their father.”

“I imagine [the two girls] Rim and Nouf waiting for their father, their young hearts full of joy at being rescued, despite the fear that filled them… Once their father had picked them up… they hadn’t taken their first step… [before] they were welcomed by shots of death, burying them alive. What were their souls praying for at that moment? A brother murdered his two sisters!

“Who planted in a young boy the notion of purging the [family] honor? Who programmed him to be a ticking bomb set to detonate at a specific time – without equipping him with the tools of insight that would give him some self-control? Who is responsible for this crime, for this senseless [act of] burying [them] alive, for the contempt for the lives and fate of others?

“These painful questions must be answered, in order to stop this frightening backsliding of a society that thinks itself part of human civilization… It would be proper for us to prepare ourselves to take part in the development of humanity by [contributing] all the values of which we boast to the nations.

“We thought that we belonged [to human civilization] – but suddenly we discovered that not only are we outside it, but that… we are going backwards, to the Jahiliyya, and adopting its concepts – concepts that Islam came to ban.”

My mother hired a hitman to kill me

I don’t blame my parents for what they’ve put me through, I blame the fact that Islam has become so distorted

Distorted reading: Sofia blames the way the Koran has been interpreted for her parents' cruel behaviour

Distorted reading: Sofia blames the way the Koran has been interpreted for her parents' cruel behaviour

MAILONLINE… The text message forwarded to me from my younger sister Saira was concise and chilling: ‘Mum’s sent a hit man to kill you,’ it read. ‘Be careful.’

As I read those words, my first instinct wasn’t fear or even shock, but simply survival.

I’d become accustomed to behaviour like this from both my parents – behaviour that anyone else would find abhorrent – and I was emotionally numb to their threats.

But I also knew that my sister’s warning was deadly serious and my life was in real danger. I’d been in hiding for several weeks when I received the text.

I was born in Gravesend in Kent in 1974 and brought up there in a devout Muslim family with three sisters and two brothers.

My father Zammurrad, a factory worker, was a deeply religious man but violent towards my mother Surriya and my sisters Zarqa, now 38, Saira, 33, and Tahira, 32.

I tried to be an obedient daughter, praying up to five times a day, but I never felt loved by my parents – or that I really belonged.

In turn, my parents viewed me as something of an oddity. Perhaps it was because I loved performing.

From as young as five, acting and singing was in my blood and at school I won so many competitions for writing songs that if the teachers wanted a song for an assembly they’d ask me to write one and I’d get up on stage and sing it.

My love of singing and dancing wasn’t exactly encouraged at home, but it wasn’t a big problem when I was young. But as I hit my teens, my parents told me I could no longer continue.

I was to forget my childish fantasies of becoming an actress, as in their eyes singing and dancing were on a par with prostitution.

As I grew older, my father started placing increasingly severe restrictions on my life. I was forbidden from making friends with other children and lived a very lonely existence.

On the one occasion I was given special permission to attend a birthday party of a girl who lived 100 metres down the road, I was allowed to stay for only an hour. My life was just school and home, with no free time for myself.

Throughout my childhood, my father grew more aggressive towards my mother and sisters, regularly throwing plates and knives at us in anger.

My brothers Majid, now 31, and Wajid, 29, were allowed to do as they pleased, but my sisters and I were told that Muslim girls were like a white sheet; once stained, forever ruined.

If ever I returned home even five minutes late from the park or school, my father would hit me with his belt, often until I bled. It got so bad that my sisters and I used to wear five layers of clothing to protect ourselves.

On one family outing to Margate when I was about nine, I was ten minutes late back to our meeting point, as I’d stayed to watch a Punch and Judy show.

My father broke a branch from a tree, stripped off all the leaves and started whipping me with it in broad daylight.

Incredibly, the rest of my family stood there and did nothing. As an adult I can see how wrong this was, but at the time I just accepted it. We all did. Continue Reading →

Something I haven’t done for a while. A list of worthy links many of which are from the great TROP while others are from the venerable GOV. Please forgive the flippancy I use here. Sometimes the horror and inhumanity of this gets to me.

First, my Muslim mother hired a hit man to kill me. This is worth clicking on if for no other reason that this girl is smoking hot in a ‘Star Trek Extras’ sort of way. I can’t look at her without imagining William Shatner wooing her to the regret of her father. Clearly her family had issues with her actually making choices for herself and her own life though.

On the alien front, the wife of the next Prime Minister of Japan explains how she spent time on other planets. Very green she said. Nice to know even the leader of a mighty industrial nation such as Japan has a weakness for crazy chicks and it isn’t just us shmoes down in the trenches.

U.N. agrees not to teach The Holocaust in Gazanian schools. Perhaps an order from the Great Gazoo himself? Im surprised though I figure at least they would want it taught except as a sort of ‘how to’ rather than a history course. I suppose we should be grateful.

The Islamic world once again shows great thrift. For most of us, weddings and funerals are life’s most stressful events as well as greatest expenses. The Muslim world teaches us thrift by combining both events in one evening. instead of funerals and weddings being two things you have to worry about, do them all at once and just kill everyone at the wedding.

Gazanians seem to work at two skills yet oddly do not seem to get better at them. 1. digging and 2. amateur rocketry. Here is a story about some Gazanian  diggers failing to achieve their goals of creating a strategic tunnel with which to murder Jews and one can be fairly certain that NASA has not sent any scouts to Gaza looking for the next Hermann Oberth.

Kingston court denies Shafias right to communicate with their remaining children

From the National Post.

A Kingston court rescinded Tuesday Mohammed Shafia and his second wife Tooba  Mohammed Yayha’s previous grant to communicate with their surviving children. Their son Hamed has also been denied the privilege of communicating with his siblings. All three have been formally charged with four counts of first degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder in the deaths of their three teenage daughters, (Hamid’s sisters) and Mohammed’s first wife. The bodies of Zianab, Sahari and Geeti Shafia and Rona Amir Mohammed were pulled from a submerged car at the Kingston Locks in late June. It is suspected that the murders may be honour killings. The three surviving children are in the care of Montreal child protective services.

——–

KINGSTON, Ont. — A Montreal couple accused in the death of their three daughters and the husband’s first wife in June have been denied the right to speak to their remaining children, a judge has ruled.

Mohammad Shafia, 56, and Tooba Mohammed Yahya, 39, are charged with four counts of first-degree murder and four counts of conspiracy to commit murder in connection with the deaths of four women.

According to the Kingston Whig-Standard, the couple was ordered to cease communication shortly after their arrest. A court order allowing the couple to communicate with their children was brought into effect three weeks ago.

The exemption was rescinded Tuesday in a Kingston, Ont., court.

The couple’s 18-year-old son, Hamid Mohammed Shafia, who is facing the same charges, was also denied the right to speak to his remaining three siblings.

The bodies of the Shafia sisters Zainab, 19; Sahari, 17; and Geeti, 13 along with the 50-year-old Rona Amir Mohammad were pulled out a car submerged in the Rideau Canal near Kingston on June 30.

The family had originally told police investigators that their eldest daughter Zainab had taken the family vehicle for a joyride the night before the bodies were found. It was later reported that the daughter had been rebellious and that the killings may have been linked to “honour.”

Islam in the UK: A CBN Video.

OK so when did it happen please that a Christian TV network became the purveyor of truth and reason? When I was a kid, Christian shows where hocus pocus and begging for money and CBC and BBC where amazing neutral news services. I looked forward to each every day. Somehow, a complete reversal has taken place where the Christian Broadcast News is often spot on in analysis saying things no one else dares report on. Could it be that they care where the money comes from? Or could it be that the Saudis have not yet throght to bribe them. Either way, this is a good bit of video.
