Obama admin takes Az. law enforcement to court for enforcing the law

Arizona Sheriff: ‘Our Own Government Has Become Our Enemy’

By Penny Starr, Senior Staff Writer

Pinal County (Ariz.) Sheriff Paul Babeu
(Correction: As initially posted, this story inaccurately said that Pinal County was contiguous with the Mexican border. It is in southern Arizona, but not on the border.)

(CNSNews.com)
– Pinal County (Ariz.) Sheriff Paul Babeu is hopping mad at the federal government.

Babeu told CNSNews.com that rather than help law enforcement in Arizona stop the hundreds of thousands of people who come into the United States illegally, the federal government is targeting the state and its law enforcement personnel.

“What’s very troubling is the fact that at a time when we in law enforcement and our state need help from the federal government, instead of sending help they put up billboard-size signs warning our citizens to stay out of the desert in my county because of dangerous drug and human smuggling and weapons and bandits and all these other things and then, behind that, they drag us into court with the ACLU,” Babeu said.

The sheriff was referring to the law suits filed by the American Civil Liberties Union and the U.S. Department of Justice challenging the state’s new immigration law.

“So who has partnered with the ACLU?” Babeu said in a telephone interview with CNSNews.com. “It’s the president and (Attorney General) Eric Holder himself. And that’s simply outrageous.” Continue Reading →

Rules of Engagement and Col. Allen West

Here is a campaign video from Lt. Col. Allen West, a name readers of Vlad I’m sure will be familiar with for a variety of reasons.

This video says a great deal about how the rules of engagement even in Iraq basically made the job difficult as well as dangerous for allied forces. Sooner or later, we need to decide to win wars if we are to enter them.

Once again the CBC shows contempt and scorn for Canada and democracy

The people at the CBC have crossed the line clean into treason at this point. They have assisted the people at Wikileaks, people who have published documents that will get many Afghans killed who cooperate with Western forces, Documents that are classified and now are in the enemies hands, CBC has actually indexed them for easier viewing and perusing. At least in terms of Canada’s participation. How is this not being a spy for the enemy? Why is the CBC or at least the people who are responsible for this post, not on trial for treason?

H/T Fred at GAR as well as Cjunk even if I do think they are being overly harsh on Harper. Stephen did in fact improve conditions for the Canadian military a great deal, undoing a lot of the damage from Chretien and Trudeau’s near obliteration of the Canadian military as a meaningful institution, and the Harper government continues to improve the equipment and resources available to our fine men in uniform.

Media bias? More like media conspiracy against Israel

Here is a rather excellent example of why the world thinks as it does about the state of Israel.

H/T Gates of Vienna, this article from Gloria Center:

Today’s Example of Ridiculous Media Bias Against Israel

By Barry Rubin

Along Israel’s border with Lebanon, east of Metulla, some bushes were pushing in on the border fence. The fence is set in slightly from the border precisely so that Israeli soldiers can work on it. The IDF called UNIFIL and informed the UN that this work was going to be done today so that they could tell the Lebanese army that there was no aggression going on but just routine maintenance. Soldiers from UNIFIL came to observe and can be seen standing next to Israeli soldiers in the photos. Photographers were also standing by to film the operation.

But Lebanese soldiers opened fire on the Israelis who were working and in no way acting aggressively. The fact that journalists were standing next to the Lebanese soldiers shows that they knew Israel was going to do this maintenance and were observing. After the Israeli soldiers were ambushed, they returned fire. One Israeli officer was killed, another seriously wounded; three Lebanese soldiers, and a Lebanese (?) journalist were killed.

So how did Reuters and Yahoo report this? By saying that Israeli soldiers had crossed into Lebanon and been fired on, thus implying the Lebanese army was acting in self-defense! Other news agencies merely reported: Israel says the soldiers were inside Israel; Lebanon says they were on Lebanese territory. Continue Reading →

Interview with John Bernard: Transcription

Dumbing-Down Our National Interest

by Baron Bodissey

John BernardJohn Bernard is a twenty-six year veteran of the United States Marine Corps, and in his retirement blogs at Let Them Fight or Bring Them Home. His mission is to highlight the absurd rules of engagement imposed upon members of the U.S. military, and to expose the insane and dangerous policies of our political leaders.

Last week Vlad Tepes interviewed Mr. Bernard on skype. Unfortunately, the sound quality of the resulting video is so low that it is difficult to hear it clearly. With Vlad’s help I transcribed the entire conversation, and am posting it below. To improve the flow of the narrative, I edited out all the hesitations, placeholders, self-corrections, and repeated words and phrases.

John Bernard is an example of the extraordinary quality we have come to expect from American soldiers, sailors, and Marines. He is intelligent, lucid, well-informed, and devastating in his analysis. If only our political leaders would pay heed to him.

Those who are interested may watch the entire interview on Vimeo, or in two parts on YouTube: Part 1 and Part 2.

Interview With John Bernard

Let Them Fight or Bring Them Home!

July 26, 2010

Your principal concerns are the rules of combat that make the war in Afghanistan dangerous and absurd. Is that correct?

Yes. You look at the rules of engagement as a stand-alone doctrine, or a stand-alone directive, then it’s an almost impossible fight.

You can’t discuss the rules of engagement without discussing strategy that bears that. In every strategy — I don’t care whether it’s on the battlefield or if it’s on the streets with the police force — everybody that bears arms is governed by a specific set of rules that tell them when they can engage whoever it is that they have the authority to engage.

In this particular case, the strategy changed somewhere around 2009 to almost exclusively counterinsurgency doctrine. And counterinsurgency doctrine really is run very much more tightly than the police on the street. So rules of engagement are intentionally tight to allow them to operate under the doctrine of counterinsurgency.

Can you give us a couple of examples of the rules of combat as they now apply in Afghanistan?

Absolutely. The rules of engagement — and again, this is a fluid document, it’s a fluid set of rules. They do change occasionally. The only thing people need to understand is that there’s nothing published, or nothing for public consumption. They reside inside a secret directive. So even getting this to the floor of Congress is difficult, because people who hold the keys, shall we say, to the chest of secrets do not want to let that directive out.

So instead all we can do is relay what we’ve been given by mouth, and we know that that’s correct, because that’s frankly the way the average soldier and Marine receives those orders as well. They may be written in some kind of localized document, but you’re not going to get them in anything that comes out of the Pentagon.

So, to give you an idea: when they were first released last year — released publicly, sometime around June of last year — one of the more egregious ones was that there weren’t going to be any more surprise night searches of civilian compounds within Afghanistan. I mean, that’s basically that you have to tell everybody in advance that you’re coming in to search their house, search a specific house, that you suspected of carrying weapons or materials that might be used by the Taliban.

Again: this is a war zone. This isn’t downtown Los Angeles. And even if it was, this particular Los Angeles does not reside within the borders of the United States. So it shouldn’t be governed by the Constitution; it should be governed by the rules of war.

You certainly have a legitimate concern that if somebody is either hiding Taliban, hiding weapons, hiding materials for war that can be used against you, you have a right — you’d think you have a right — to go in and find out what those are. So this thing basically set up the circuits for failure. Continue Reading →

Quebec shuts down French private school over partly English curriculum

When the state closes a school for teaching a foreign language, wouldn’t that define fascism?

Ottawa Citizen:

????

A decision to immediately revoke the operating permit of a private Quebec elementary school — one that consistently turns out high-performing, fluently bilingual youngsters — over its English-language policy triggered Friday a promise of fiery, unyielding refusal.

The Laval-based l’Academie Lavalloise’s core policy of providing 30 per cent English curriculum — from kindergarten through Grade 6 — was cited as one factor for the shutdown by Quebec’s education ministry.

Under Quebec regulations, that’s forbidden in a French-language primary setting.

Ministry officials sought to shutdown the arts, maths and language-rich school just three weeks before classes are set to resume Aug. 23, triggering a “panic” among parents, said Albert DiFruscia, president of the parents’ committee.

The timing, he said, makes it “just impossible” to place the students in other private schools.

Canada: Air security won’t ask Muslims to lift veils to prove ID

From The Toronto Sun

Lifting the veil on airport security

Air security won’t ask for veiled Muslims to prove ID

By Brian Lilley and Bryn Weese, Parliamentary Bureau

Last Updated: August 1, 2010 5:16am

OTTAWA – Frequent flyers know the drill: take off your shoes, surrender your tweezers and pack your shampoo in those little plastic baggies before lining up for the naked body scanners. But lift your niqab? Apparently not.

QMI Agency can reveal that neither airlines nor security services are asking Muslim women to lift their veils and prove that the face beneath matches their photo ID.

The issue came to light through a video taken by Mick Flynn of Bradford, England. Flynn was boarding a flight at Montreal’s Trudeau International Airport when he witnessed two women with their faces covered board an Air Canada Heathrow bound flight without being asked to remove their veils.

In fact, in the video that Flynn has posted online, a man traveling with the group hands in all the passports and is the only one to interact with airline staff while two veiled women simply walk through.

“I complained at the desk — and again as I boarded the plane — asking if the pilot was happy that two women boarded without being identified,” Flynn told QMI Agency. “Both members of staff whom I spoke to were flustered and clearly embarrassed.”

Flynn’s communication with Air Canada and his video posting have resulted in a threatened lawsuit from the airline. As for answers from the company about security procedures, their response reveals holes in Canada’s air security.

“Airline passengers have already undergone multiple security checks before arriving at the boarding gate,” Air Canada spokesman Peter Fitzpatrick told QMI. “A final check is made at the gate prior to boarding in order to confirm passengers on the flight.”

Air Canada says it is capable of checking identification in a private room away from the check-in counter, but said the real responsibility for security measures lies with CATSA, the Canadian Air Transport Security Agency.

Not so, says CATSA.

Greg MacDougall, a spokesman for CATSA, tells QMI that their guards are primarily looking for metal, weapons or other banned material, not ensuring that veiled faces match passport photos.

“We don’t have concerns with that. We have concerns with the fact if the person has any metal under their clothing,” MacDougall said.

A former CATSA employee, who, until recently worked as a frontline screener, tells QMI: “We were never allowed to ask anyone with a veil to lift it. It is their religion.”

Frontline workers for several airlines say that any checks, if they happen at all, would likely happen at the check-in desk, not at boarding or security.

Most airports have wide gaps between where baggage is checked and the secure portions of the airport.

Transport Canada says there should be no confusion: “The airline must be able to verify the identity of all passengers before they are allowed to board,” the department said in a written statement.

Lawyer David Harris of INSIGNIS Strategic Research says Canadians should be concerned about what he deems preferential treatment.

“Full veiling has been a boon for those participating in criminal and terrorist operations,” Harris said pointing to the story of Mustaf Jama.

Jama, a Somali national with a long criminal record, was wanted in Britain for the 2006 murder of police constable Sharon Beshenivsky. As police closed in to arrest the career criminal, Jama was able to escape back to Somalia by wearing a full veil and boarding a flight at Heathrow airport.

Harris’ call for lifting the veil is backed up by two Muslim groups often at odds with each other, the Muslim Canadian Congress and the Council on American-Islamic Relations, Canada.

“You cannot allow a person wearing a mask to be in the perimeter of an airport,” says Tarek Fatah of the Congress. “If you don’t want to take off the mask, take the TTC (public transit) to Cairo.”

“Women who wear the niqab are not constrained by the religious belief from removing their veil for legitimate reasons, and security is one of them,” said Ihsaan Gardee, executive director of CAIR-CAN.

Gardee admits that Canadian officials may be reluctant to deal with this issue head-on due to concerns about political correctness. “It’s something that needs to be addressed,” Gardee said.

Gardee says it would be preferable if female staff were able to conduct any screening that involved removing the veil but adds that if female staff are not available, the women must still be forced to remove their niqab.

Gunshots and car burnings in Dudley (over dropping of charges of EDL?)

As this article does not name the people arrested, nor describe any of the circumstances that would normally be included in a news piece like this, I feel safe in guessing that:

1. It was Muslims rioting…

2. It was because the EDL people who were arrested on the rooftops protesting the opening of a megamosque in Dudley that no one wanted and government is forcing on people.

From Dudley news:

VIOLENT disorder broke out in Dudley last night as cars were attacked with baseball bats and reports of gunshots being fired.

The incident happened on the forecourt of the car wash in Stafford Street at around 7pm.

Police were called after witnesses saw a group of men smash cars parked outside premises, just off Wolverhampton Street.

Officers arrested a 37 year-old man at the scene, on suspicion of violent disorder and possession of an offensive weapon. He continues to help police with inquiries this morning.

A second witness later reported that gunshots had been heard in the vicinity around the time of the disorder.

At this stage, it is not thought that anyone was injured during the incident.

Detective sergeant Glenn Marriott from the Sandwell and Dudley team of Force Criminal Investigation Department said: “We are treating this incident very seriously, as it appears that those involved in the disorder were obviously in some kind of dispute and had access to weapons.

“We are continuing to conduct specialist searches at the scene today, and will be interviewing the man arrested at the scene.

“Stafford Street and Wolverhampton Street are busy thoroughfares and I would urge anyone who was passing the area at all from around 7pm last night to come forward and pass on any information you may have to the investigating officers.”

Roads in the area are open as normal this morning, however the affected business premises remains closed.

Sergeant Chris Fox from Dudley police station said: “Incidents such as this cause concern for local people and we will be carrying out patrols in the area to reassure residents and traders over coming days.

“Thankfully, this kind of disorder is unusual and we will be speaking to people in the area as part of inquiries to try and identify those involved.”

Anyone with information to help the police investigation is urged to contact Team 9 of Force CID at Harborne police station on 0345 113 5000 or call the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

When it comes to taking cultural Marxism and “gender neutrality” to its logical conclusion, you just can’t beat the Swedes:

H/T Fjordman

Transgendered people need more protection, the Liberal Party has announced, adding it proposes that the hate crime law be clarified so that it is clear that it also applies to this group.

http://gatesofvienna.blogspot.com/2009/06/concentrating-on-essentials.html

Meet Pop, a two-and-a-half-year-old Swedish child whose parents are refusing to say whether the apple of their eye is a boy or a girl. Pop’s parents, both 24, made a decision when their baby was born to keep Pop’s sex a secret. Aside from a select few — those who have changed the child’s diaper — nobody knows Pop’s gender; if anyone enquires, Pop’s parents simply say they don’t disclose this information. In an interview with newspaper Svenska Dagbladet in March, the parents were quoted saying their decision was rooted in the feminist philosophy that gender is a social construction.

http://www.brusselsjournal.com/node/3582

The Swedish Green Party state explicitly that the concepts male and female are “socially constructed” and forced upon all human beings. In order to reach the new world order, it is paramount that all such artificial identities are broken down. This should be facilitated by the education system and specially trained teachers. They believe that “all human beings” should be free to choose whatever name they desire. By this they appear to mean “gender” as well. They want everything to be “gender neutral,” not only marriage ceremonies but identity cards.

Imagine this story in reverse. A white couple hunts a black man to rob and kill, then brags about it.

Here is the original site:

Mom was on phone with Jupiter man when robbers killed him in Baltimore

Baltimore police say John Wagner and Lavelva Merritt were “hunting to rob someone” on Sunday night.

Around 11:30, they ran into Stephen Pitcairn.

The Jupiter man, a Johns Hopkins University researcher with dreams of finding the cure to breast cancer, was walking on Baltimore’s north side talking on the phone with his mother.

Wagner and Merritt found their perfect, distracted “someone,” police said in court records filed Tuesday .

Even after he followed the two career criminals’ orders, police allege that one of them stabbed him in the chest. All the while his mother, Gwen Pitcairn, listened as her son – just two days shy of his 24th birthday – pleaded with the robbers .

Afterward, the pair went home, apparently so proud of what they had done they bragged to witnesses, saying they had robbed and “hurt” a “white boy,” according to the court records.

Pitcairn was pronounced dead around midnight at John Hopkins Hospital.

On Monday morning, a police SWAT team raided Wagner and Merritt’s place at 2700 Baltimore Ave. and arrested the pair without incident. Police found blood at the front door, bloody shoes and Pitcairn’s brown wallet and iPhone in the house. Continue Reading →

Police moved out of troubled Grenoble France

Remember Grenoble? In the past couple of weeks, riots there have left injuries and of course, the mandatory torched cars in scores. Well the French government has decided to respond to it in a way that sounds an awful lot like the classic jokes about the French army. They have removed the police from the area.

Thanks to View From the Right:

From The Telegraph, dated July 27:

Police officers and families moved out of Grenoble

Crime squad officers in Grenoble have been moved out of the town along with their families after local gangsters put a contract on their heads.

The death threats came a week after officers of the anti-criminal brigade, or BAC, shot dead a gang member during a casino hold up, sparking several nights of riots in the troubled French suburban housing estate of La Villeneuve where he lived.

Police came under real gunfire as they tried to quell the violence.

A local police source said: “These (threats) are targeting this service in general and certain colleagues in particular. One could call them contracts.

They are coming from people from mafia circles who consider the BAC a rival gang”.

He said many of the officers have been working in the area for years, are known to local troublemakers by name and their personal car number plates are even tagged on walls in La Villeneuve.

Last Friday, all policemen in France received a text message, believed to be from local officers, reading: “BAC-Grenoble staff have been put on forced leave by the (local government) prefect and obliged to leave the region with their wives and children.

Europe News responds to Cameron’s insistence that Turkey join the EU

Here is a fact filled no punches pulled response to the demand by the new British PM that Europe obliterate itself:

Open letter to PM David Cameron on Turks and Turkey in EU

EuropeNews 28 July 2010
By Nicolai Sennels

Dear Prime Minister David Cameron

You say you want Turkey to be member of EU. I personally think that you just want the rest of Europe to have the same problems with Muslims as you do. But that is my personal guess – here are the hard facts:

99.8 percent of the more than 77 mio. Turks living in Turkey are
Muslims (CIA World Factbook).

Please study the Quran and see what that means: It is a criminal book that forces people to do criminal things (examples here)! From September 11th 2001 (do you remember…?) to July 28th 2010 there have been 15.373 confirmed cases of murder motivated by the Quran and the inhuman example of
the Muslims prophet as described in his life story in the Hadiths
(The Religion of Peace). Do you really think we need to open our European borders to 77 mio. followers of such an ideology?

Turkish immigrants in Denmark have a crime index of 184 (meaning that their frequency of crime is almost double that of the average Danish citizen) (Kulturkløften.dk)

Do you really think we need more of that on our continent?

Did you know that “Three out of four women in all of Turkey is in average victim to physical or psychological violence at least one time per month.” (IslamInfo.dk)?

Do you want such a view on women to take root in our societies?

And did you know that “70 percent of the Turkish citizens never read books, Konda public opinion researchers said, APA reports. The research centre conducted opinion poll among 6482 respondents and found out mood of national and religious discrimination, as well as isolation is still in a high level in the country. Cameron reminded me of someone when he was speaking in Turkey

I know I already posted this speech to Vlad. But there was a certain something about his speech that reminded me of another famous speech by another British Prime Minister.

Here is my feeling about Cameron’s shocking dhimmitude. By the way, it is well worth popping over to the original video on youtube and reading the comments. Some are very good.

Cameron speaks out hard against Israel

Not content to merely demand that Turkey be admitted to the European Union, British Prime Minister Cameron spoke harsh and rather untrue words about the state of Israel today in Turkey..

British Prime Minister in Turkey takes out hard against Israel

by Jeroen Langelaar [translation by VH]

The British Prime Minister David Cameron during his visit to Ankara, the capital of Turkey, lashed out hard at Israel. He for instance compared the situation in the Gaza Strip with that of a “prison camp”. Cameron’s speech however, was full of praise for Turkey and the Turkish-British relations.

He promised to commit himself “passionately” to Turkey’s accession to the EU. Accession is according to the Conservative leader “vital to our economy, vital to our security and vital to our diplomacy.”

Cameron also took the opportunity to bash Israel. The British government leader called the actions of the Israeli Navy against a boat with Gaza activists in late May — in which nine people were killed — “unacceptable” and demanded a further exhaustive investigation into the incident.

He also compared the situation in the Gaza Strip with that of a “prison camp”. “Let me be clear that the situation in Gaza must change,” Cameron said. “Humanitarian goods and people must in both directions be able to cross the border. Gaza can not and should not be a prison camp.” He did not mention Hamas.

Cameron did call though, for both Turkey as well as Israel, not let water down the friendship between the two states, which recently had been marred.

Ron Prosor, the Israeli ambassador to Britain, finds the statements of Cameron inappropriate. “People in Gaza are prisoners of the terrorist organization Hamas,” said Prosor. “The situation there is a direct result of Hamas’ rules and priorities.”

{[note from translator VH: no mentioning by Cameron of Gilad Shalit, who today is 1493 days hostage of Hamas — VH]

Obama’s Cairo speech

Yes yes I know that was ages ago. But its been a bee in my bonnet since he gave it. Before Obama was elected I was pretty sure he was a bad idea, but after he was elected I held out hope that he had a grand strategy which was to be conciliatory to a degree, and then, when Iran continued on its natural course of aggression, Obama was going to suddenly defend the free world with real gusto and get all kinds of support from the left in the US and Western world because he had gone to such great lengths to supplicate and appease the Islamic world. There would be a great shrug and an ‘I did all I could, and now, the time to fight has come’. I was not expecting, “The US will never be at war with Islam…” etc. at Nausea.

When I saw the Cairo speech I had to re think that strategy. Clearly Obama was either knowingly making up stuff about Islam and its history or he actually believed the stuff he said, which given that he grew up at a Madrassa in Indonesia he probably does, and either way he simply was not representing the nation that elected him or it’s interests.

In any case, Fjordman did a refutation of Obama’s Cairo speech here. Anything by Fjordman is well worth reading but this especially is worth the click and the time.

Eeyore for Vlad.
