Taliban oppression poster girl unveils new nose

A woman who became the poster girl of Taliban oppression in Afghanistan after being mutilated by her husband has unveiled her new face to the world.

The image of Aisha, 19, without a nose, prompted a worldwide outpouring of sympathy after it appeared on the cover of Time Magazine accompanying an article highlighting the plight of women in Afghanistan.

She appeared before the cameras to receive an Enduring Heart award at a benefit for the Grossman Burn Foundation, which paid for her surgery, in Los Angeles.

Maria Shriver, wife of Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger’s and California’s first lady, presented the award.

“This is the first Enduring Heart award given to a woman whose heart endures and who shows us all what it means to have love and to be the enduring heart,” Miss Shriver said.

Aisha, whose surname has never been disclosed, responded: “Thank you so much.”

When Aisha was 12, her father vowed to repay a debt by promising her in marriage to a Taliban fighter. She was handed over to the fighter’s family, abused and made to sleep in a stable with animals.

She was caught after trying to escape and her nose and ears were sliced off by her husband as a punishment.

“When they cut off my nose and ears, I passed out,” she told CNN. “In the middle of the night it felt like there was cold water in my nose. I opened my eyes and I couldn’t even see because of all the blood.”

After being left for dead in the mountains, she crawled to her grandfather’s house and was taken to an American medical facility.

Following time time at a shelter in Kabul, she was flown to the US by the Grossman Burn Foundation in August and stayed with an American family.

This month, she had a prosthetic nose fitted at the West Hills Hospital. Dr Peter H Grossman said they hoped to give Aisha a more “permanent solution”.

This might involve rebuilding her nose and ears using bone, tissue and cartilage from other parts of her body.

MONTREAL – A 13-year-old Longueuil girl died Saturday night as a result of injuries she sustained Wednesday when police say her 71-year-old father slapped her and she went into a coma.

Police said Mousaa Sidime, who was arrested for aggravated assault and has been detained since the incident, could now face a more serious charge when he appears in court Tuesday.

The girl, whom neighbours identified as Noutene Sidime, was found by emergency responders shortly after 6 p.m. Wednesday at her family dwelling on Chambly Rd. in Old Longueuil when the elderly father called police to say he had slapped his daughter, Longueuil police Constable Mark David said.

“When we got there the girl was bleeding around her nose and she has been in a coma ever since,” David said. Continue Reading →

Ontario court to rule if woman can wear niqab while testifying

The Ontario Court of Appeal is expected to rule if women can testify in court while wearing a niqab.

For the first time in Canada, an appellate level court is going to rule on whether a woman can testify in court while wearing a niqab.

The Ontario Court of Appeal is scheduled to release its ruling Wednesday in the case of a 32-year-old Muslim woman who says she was sexually abused as a child by two male relatives.

The decision will be issued just days after the constitutional council in France approved legislation that will ban the wearing of a burqa or a niqab in public places. Women who wear the face-covering clothing could face fines of nearly $200. Anyone in France who forces a woman to wear a burqa or niqab could be sentenced to a year in jail.

In the case before the Ontario Court of Appeal, the woman was originally ordered by a provincial court judge in October 2008 to remove the Muslim veil, which covers most of her face except for her eyes, while testifying at the preliminary hearing of the defendants.

The alleged sexual assault victim refused and the Ontario Court of Appeal heard arguments from the Crown and defence, as well as several other groups, during a two-day hearing in June.

The Ontario government urged the court not to issue a “blanket statement” and instead set out a legal framework for courts to decide the issue on a case-by-case basis. The appeal court could for example, allow limited questioning of a female Muslim witness, to ensure that her religious reasons for wearing the niqab are legitimate.

A lawyer for one of the two defendants argued that there is a long-standing right to assess the demeanor of witnesses when they testify and the woman should have to remove the niqab. The Muslim Canadian Congress sided with the defendants and its lawyer told the court that wearing the niqab is a political statement and the issue is not about religious freedoms.

The Ontario Human Rights Commission and the Women’s Legal Education and Action Fund (LEAF) argued in favour of the woman’s right to testify while wearing the niqab. The lawyer representing LEAF suggested the woman should not have to “relive being forcibly uncovered,” if ordered to remove the niqab in court.

The prime minister says that more than just police officers are needed to change the mentality in Denmark’s ghettos.

While Prime Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen (Lib) is content that the Social Democrats and the Socialist People’s Party are suggesting a lot more police in Denmark’s ghetto areas, he says that the problem is much more intense than a simple police effort can solve.

“Police can’t do it alone. I feel one has to understand that the challenges that we are facing in certain estates has taken on proportions we perhaps haven’t understood,” Løkke Rasmussen says.

“We have some urban areas in which one can ask whether they are Denmark at all,” the prime minister adds. Continue Reading →

Apparently, Dutch prosecution wants charges against Wilders dropped as ‘comparing Koran to Mein Kampf does not directly insult Muslims.’

Now we get a chance to see if this really is political. If the charges are not dropped even after the prosecution wants it gone, then we really know something about the Dutch government.

Although the trial of Dutch MP and critic of Islam, Geert Wilders, and its serious implications for free speech in Europe, is once again creating a furor in the press, another high-profile trial of a critic of Islam — Elisabeth Sabaditsch-Wolff, in Austria — is being overlooked.

Ms. Sabaditsch-Wolff now faces up to a three-year prison sentence if convicted of “inciting hatred against a religious group” and “defamation of religion” in a lecture in 2009 on the “Islamization of Europe.”

As allegedly criminal statements fill the indictments of “hate speech” prosecutions, as in the case with Mr. Wilders, the Dutch MP says that he spoken the truth, and the truth cannot be illegal.

If the authorities in the states of the EU have taken note of this axiom, the Viennese state attorney has not. He has taken an even more sinister approach to prosecuting Mrs. Sabaditsch-Wolff: No statements are listed in the indictment. Instead, her entire three-part seminar has been designated as incriminating.

I am “always careful to distinguish between Muslims and Islam,” Mrs. Sabaditsch-Wolff says. That, apparently, does not matter.

Having spent most of her life in Muslim-majority countries, she has had much time to get to know Muslims as individuals, and to experience contemporary Islamic culture. She has lived in Kuwait; in Iran, as a child, at the time of the Islamic revolution, and, during the 9/11 attacks, in Libya.

Her stories are undoubtedly disturbing: two of her non-Muslim friends were attacked for breaking the Ramadan fast – one, a Coptic Christian, was assaulted for licking stamps at a post office; the other, for chewing gum. On another occasion, apparently, when Mrs. Sabaditsch-Wolff sat in her apartment watching the 9/11 unfold on television, and her landlord burst in exclaiming that “the Jews did it,” she asked him to leave. A jilted boyfriend was jailed for life today after he admitted murdering a pretty schoolgirl on her way to a party.

A-Level student Aliza Mirza, 18, had ended her turbulent relationship with Yahya Gul, when she agreed to meet him to talk one last time. But Gul, who was 17 at the time, armed himself with a knife and stabbed her repeatedly leaving her to die on the street.

Members of the public tried desperately to staunch the bleeding, after she was found face down in a pool of blood, but she died in hospital later that evening.

Every-time you think you understand the depth and breadth of human cruelty, you discover your own limited, and perhaps mercifully so, imagination. I happened to catch a celebration of the passing of the torch to Kim’s son in North Korea on TV last night. A nation that is willing to force an entire people to starve to the point where they are actually by average measurably shorter than their south Korean counterparts on average just to maintain the thinnest possible mirage of superiority to the west. It staggers the mind that university students would not dare to walk around in Nazi paraphernalia, but would sport every kind of communist symbol they can find with pride.

Communism did and still does, logarithmically more horror, slavery and cruelty than the Nazis managed. The fact that left leaning, western universities have managed to hide all that and make it fashionable is itself a crime.

In any case, at the end of this clip I posted a tinyurl I made for the following documentary made by American journalists who visited North Korea. Ill post it below the clip-vid I made here. Thanks to TL for sending me the link for the documentary. I wish they would show it to all university 1st year students.

Please try and find the time to watch it. Not only is it very good, it is also important to realize that communism is still, to this very day, breaking and chaining the ankles of a wonderful people while just miles away, freedom allows the very same people to be massively creative, wealthy, and well fed.

The explosive reaction to Chancellor George Osborne’s child benefit proposal continues to ricochet round the Coalition’s ears.

The plan to axe this benefit for anyone earning above the higher-rate tax threshold, currently just under £44,000 per year, caused a furious backlash.

This has been followed by the backlash to the backlash. The response to the outcry has been to sneer that while the better-off rail against handouts for the poor, they react like scalded cats to the suggestion that they should lose their own from the state.

Such sour petulance is only to be expected from the Left. But what is startling is that exactly the same sneering is also coming from the Cameroons, who have accused middle-class objectors of ‘fiscal nimbyism’ – morphing from ‘not in my back yard’ into ‘not in my back pocket’.

How spiteful. And how unfair. For the child benefit proposal itself breaches the most elementary understanding of fairness.

It is deeply unfair, for example, that a family with one stay-at-home parent will lose this benefit if the sole earner earns more than £44,000, while a family with two working parents earning up to £88,000 will keep it.

Next, it offends against any real idea of social justice that young women should continue to receive what is effectively a financial incentive to have one baby after another, regardless of whether or not the fathers stick around, while traditional, responsible families are penalised.

The English Defence League (EDL), a British far-right group opposing the “Islamification” of the West and which is in contact with the US-based Tea Party organization, has invited Tea Party activist and senior Rabbi Nachum Shifren to speak about Sharia law in London this month, the Guardian reported on Sunday.

The EDL’s links with the Tea Party movement surfaced a day after roughly 1,000 EDL supporters demonstrated in Leicester, which boasts a large Muslim population, according to the Guardian.

The Tea Party is expected to be an influential player in the upcoming midterm elections in the US.

Shifren, who is running for senate in the midterm elections, said Britain’s Jewish community should support the EDL. “The Jewish community is paralysed with fear, exactly what most radical Muslim agitators want,” he said. “The people of England are in the forefront of this war – and it is a war. One of the purposes of this visit is to put the kibosh on the notion in the Jewish community that they cannot co-operate with the EDL, which is rubbish.”

Devin Burghart, vice-president of the Kansas-based Institute for Research & Education on Human Rights, was also quoted in the Guardian story, commenting on the Tea Party’s increasingly anti-Islamic views.

“As we move farther and farther away from the Tea Party origins, that were ostensibly around debt and bail-outs, social issues like Islamophobia are replacing that anger, that vigour. The idea that there is a war between Islam and the west is becoming commonplace,” he said.
