Mosque in Saudi Arabia appoints new guy. Watch and laugh
Here is yet another reason why the right to criticize ridicule and isolate religious authority is utterly crucial to a democracy that has any ambitions of maintaining it’s basic individualism and liberal values. Laugh loud and laugh often till you realize that some schmo just like him is preaching at a mosque near you. One thing is certain though, somewhere in Italy a restaurant is missing a table cloth. I doubt they want it back now.
Pigs come from Jews. Egyptian Fatwa
Here is a nice irony. Ancient Jewish laws banned the eating of pork for rational health reasons. Followers of Mohamed arbitrarily plagiarized Hebrew eating rules to lend the illusion of legitimacy to his new religion, itself a plagiarism of Judaism Christianity and Meccan moon worship. Now, an Egyptian cleric has decreed that the killing of all pigs is ‘kosher’ so to speak, because pigs in fact are Jews.
From Albawaba:
pig swineA new fatwa published in Egypt determines that the source of all the existing pigs in the world is Jews, who were cursed by Allah. The new edict was issued by Sheikh Ali Osman from the Egyptian Waqf ministry.
Due to their Jewish roots, Sheikh Osman says, it is permissible to slaughter all the pigs. The religious scholar was quoted as saying by a Jordanian newspaper that he personally believes the source of the pigs is Jews and thus the consumption of pork meat is banned in Islam.
He added that a person who consumes swine flesh is considered as one who consumed another “impure person.” Sheikh Osman said his fatwa is being supported by the heads of al Azhar, but they fear to publicly confirm it. He said he still wait for response from al azhar fatwa committee to get an official approval for his new edict.
Sooner or later, we need to take them at thier word. Better sooner than later.
Iran has been chrystal clear for some time now. The fact that what they have been clear about is counter intuitive for westerners or that we must rationalize it all away as a cover for some clever geopolitical ploy does us great damage.
It is indeed hard for westerners to believe that Iran genuinely wants to cause cataclysmic events to bring back a supernatural being just as it was hard for nearly everyone to believe that Hitler wanted to kill all the Jews or that Stalin was starving the Ukrainians to death. Perhaps it is humanities fate not to believe what we are told that we wish not to believe. Even so, the obligation to present the evidence remains. Iran is developing nuclear weapons. They intend to use them on Israel and the United States. They do not care how many Iranians die as a result as they, the Iranians will go to some kind of preferred afterlife and their enemies will not as they see it. Is this hard to believe? Indeed it is. But most of us have deeply religious friends who may have more benign beliefs but not less implausible. When Iran’s leaders speak, know they mean it. Respond accordingly.

Hate preacher has fake hunger strike.
(someone should sneak him in some pork rinds)
The terrorist and his al-Qaeda followers in the High Security Unit in Belmarsh have refused to eat prison food all week.
They took objection to a strip search on an inmate and have refused cooked food from kitchen staff since.
But the protesters have been eating food from the prison shop and scoffing snacks during meetings with solicitors.
Hamza was spotted eating crisps and chocolate in his cell after calling on the Muslims Boys Gang to go on a hunger strike.
The weak-willed backlash came after a Muslim prisoner objected to a strip search along with two other inmates. All three lashed out and were placed in the segregation unit.
The officer who tried to search them received death threats and was moved to a new job.
A source said: “It is almost funny. They have been refusing food from the hot plate, but are still snacking on everything else.
“Hamza has been sneaking crisps and chocolate into his cell.” A Ministry of Justice spokes man said: “Prisoners in Belmarsh are not on hunger strike.”
Islam in America, Part Six: Education. By Kathy Shaidle

from Right Side News April 7, 2009
Did you know that Muslims discovered America? Or that “ancient Jewish civilization contributed very little to the arts and sciences”?
According to a recent study by Institute for Jewish and Community Research, millions of American public school students in all 50 states use textbooks that contain such erroneous “facts.” Of the 500 historical errors uncovered by the study, hundreds of them tout a blatant agenda of Islamic superiority.
Even more shockingly, U.S. taxpayers are the ones footing the bill. It’s all part of a worrisome trend within the American educational system: the apparent spread of radical Muslim propaganda under the guise of “education.”
Pamela Geller has reported on the story for years. She says that the influence of radical Islam spreads beyond K-12 into colleges and universities.
“No one knows how extensive Saudi funding of U.S. schools is,” Geller told RightSideNews, “but since Saudis control 80% of US mosques financially, it’s very likely that they control the same percentage of schools.”
She cites “$20 million dollar gifts from Saudi Prince Alwaleed bin Talal, to top U.S. universities like Harvard and Georgetown,” adding that the impact of such gifts flows all the way “down to the kindergarten level.”
Under Title VI of the 1965 Higher Education Act, Harvard and seventeen other universities only qualify for special funding provided they conduct “outreach” to K-12 teachers, helping them shape lesson plans. And naturally, those lesson plans include laudatory information about Islam and the Middle East…
In one notorious instance, outraged parents protested in 2002 when they discovered that their children were learning about Islam in a California public school by praying “in the name of Allah.” Continue Reading →
White house defends publication of top secret memos
From The Washington Times:
Top White House officials denied Sunday that President Obama’s release of top-secret memos hurt national security by giving terrorists details of U.S. interrogation techniques – as charged by the former head of the CIA and four of his predecessors – saying the information was already public.
“Virtually everything that was in those memos has been publicly reported,” senior adviser David Axelrod said Sunday on CBS’ “Face the Nation.”
“The New York Review of Books had a full catalogue of these techniques that were given to the International Red Cross through testimony. The CIA may believe that al Qaeda doesn’t read the New York Review of Books, but I suspect they know what’s going on,” he said.
Totaling 126 pages, the four memos – issued under the Bush administration – revealed explicit details, including clinical explanations of how interrogation techniques were performed and the intended effects on the detainees.
Their release was welcomed by civil liberties groups, but drew rebukes from former intelligence officials who said doing so puts the nation at risk.
“The definition of ‘top secret’ is information which, if revealed, would cause grave harm to U.S. security,” former CIA Director Michael V. Hayden said on “Fox News Sunday.” “There’s a difference of leaks, and rumors, and rumors of this and that, and going out there and defining in an absolutely clear way what the limits are.”
But by publicly distancing itself from the Bush administration’s approach to interrogation, the Obama administration has “enhanced America’s image abroad,” White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel said on ABC’s “This Week.”
“These were tools used by terrorists, propaganda tools, to recruit new terrorists,” he said.
Sen. Claire McCaskill, Missouri Democrat, said the public has a right to see the memos.
“I think transparency is not something that comes easily to CIA directors, but it’s very important to this president,” she said on Fox.
Sen. Lindsey Graham, South Carolina Republican, called the move a “huge tactical and strategic mistake, done for political reasons.”
Bus driver fired in Niqab passenger controversy

Union to challenge dismissal of bus driver fired in Funen case of niqab wearing passenger
A 41-year-old bus driver who made headlines two weeks ago after refusing to let a woman wearing a niqab onto his bus was fired on Tuesday by his employer, Fynbus.
According to the bus driver, the woman showed him a monthly pass, which has a photograph of the pass holder on it. When he asked her to lower her veil so he could be certain she was the woman pictured on the pass, she refused, whereupon he told her she could not ride on the bus.
The woman attempted to re-enter the bus four times and was removed on each occasion.
The driver’s labour union, 3F, indicated that they believed the firing to be a political statement and are therefore challenging the dismissal.
Pakistani Cleric: Swat Deal Gives Taliban Immunity
[kaltura-widget wid=”iy0n2ukur4″ width=”410″ height=”364″ addpermission=”3″ editpermission=”3″ /]
Of course the murders and other crimes committed by the Taliban, including selling and profiting from drugs, are all part of jihad so are legal under Islamic law.
Pakistani cleric claims deal imposing Islamic law in troubled valley grants Taliban immunity
Asked Tuesday in a television interview if the new courts would hear complaints from Swat residents about Fazlullah or his followers, Muhammad said they could not.
“We intend to bury the past,” Muhammad told the ARY channel, sitting off-screen because he considers photographic or TV images to be against Islam. “Past things will be left behind and we will go for a new life in peace.” I’m amazed there is room what with all the heads buried both figuratively and non
Asked if the Taliban would enjoy such immunity, a provincial government minister only pleaded for calm so that peace could take hold.
“Everyone should understand what we have gone through and what kind of hardship people in Swat have suffered,” Wajid Ali Khan said. “We can look into any disputes and controversy at some later stage.”
After weeks of foot-dragging, Zardari approved the Sharia regulation late Monday only after Parliament voted unanimously to adopt a resolution urging him to sign it.
His apparent reluctance has fueled doubts about whether the pact will hold. Few of the estimated 500,000 people displaced by the fighting have felt confident enough to return.
The resolution also diluted Zardari’s personal responsibility for a pact that has drawn fierce criticism from rights groups as well as Pakistan’s foreign backers, who are pumping billions of dollars into the country in hopes of stabilizing its pro-Western democracy.
Federal Information Minister Qamar Zaman Kaira said Tuesday that the pact was little more than a tactical maneuver in the country’s “long war” with extremists.
“Those people who want to hijack Pakistan and destabilize Pakistan, they used (the demand for speedy justice) as a propaganda tool,” Kaira said. “We have taken that idea out of the hand of the exploiters.”
He insisted the Sharia legislation would not introduce a version of Islamic law like that introduced by the former Taliban regime in Afghanistan.
“It is a misconception that we are going to enforce Mullahism,” he said.
A spokesman for the Taliban said the militants would cooperate. If the law is quickly implemented, “the world will see how much peace and prosperity comes to this region,” Muslim Khan said.
Fighting for free speech

The International Free Press Society is an organisation that has been set up in order to examine and report on countries and groups that seek to stifle free speech and the right of opinion around the world. Some are so afraid of the truth being exposed that a cyber attack was immediately launched against IFPS’s web site.
We’re trying to make the attackers’ strategy counterproductive by helping the
same information go viral on the internet. If thousands of websites post the
same material — including information on how one can purchase one of the
cartoons — their efforts will have been in vain.
International Free Press Society’s Mohammed Cartoon Fundraiser Succeeds Despite Cyber Attack
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Washington, DC – April 13, 2009: Just one day after world media reported that the International Free Press Society (IFPS) was raising funds to support its free speech activities by selling prints of the most famous of the Danish Mohammed cartoons, the IFPS website suffered a massive cyber-attack. In the wake of the attack, which began at 6:30 am on Thursday, April 9, 2009, the IFPS created an alternate website which is now in place at http://internationalfreepresssociety.wordpress.com. The main site will be restored in the near future at http://www.internationalfreepresssociety.org . Prints of the controversial cartoon can be ordered online at http://freepresssociety.blogspot.com .
Sales for the print of “Turban Bomb,” signed and numbered by the Danish artist Kurt Westergaard, continue uninterrupted and indeed, have exceeded expectations, as orders have been processed via more traditional means and email marketing was expand
The IFPS was founded in January, 2009 to defend individuals and organizations under assault for exercising their right to free speech. For taking on this mission, the IFPS is under ongoing cyber-attacks. This aggression only serves to underscore the urgency with which free people must come together to defend free speech. Silence. Or I sue you.
The Muslim custom of sueing those who disagree with what they say or do continues even when it comes to science. Or at least the Islamic version of science.
An Islamic Creationist Stirs a New Kind of Darwinian Struggle
Also weighing in on his side are very aggressive lawyers. They’ve repeatedly gone to court in Turkey to silence critics whom Mr. Oktar accuses of spreading “lies and insults.” Scores of Web sites have been banned at his behest.
ISTANBUL — As scientists around the world celebrate the 150th anniversary of Charles Darwin’s seminal work on evolution, Adnan Oktar, a college dropout turned theorist of Islamic creationism, is working on the fifth volume of a 14-part masterwork that he says will bury Darwinism once and for all.
“Darwin and his theory are dead,” says Mr. Oktar, founder and honorary president of the Science Research Foundation, an Istanbul outfit dedicated to debunking the Victorian-era English naturalist. Darwin, says his 52-year-old Turkish scourge, is “Satan’s biggest trick on humanity.”
Mr. Oktar, who briefly studied interior design, hasn’t had much success swaying scientists with the weight of his research. “He is a complete and utter ignoramus,” says Richard Dawkins, an evolutionary biologist and Oxford University professor.
The physical weight of Mr. Oktar’s work, however, is considerable. Each volume of his anti-Darwin magnum opus, “Atlas of Creation,” weighs more than 13 pounds. Also weighing in on his side are very aggressive lawyers. They’ve repeatedly gone to court in Turkey to silence critics whom Mr. Oktar accuses of spreading “lies and insults.” Scores of Web sites have been banned at his behest.
These include the site of Oxford’s Prof. Dawkins, which Mr. Oktar — who writes under the pen name Harun Yahya — got blocked last fall after it posted an article entitled “Venomous Snakes, Slippery Eels and Harun Yahya.” Prof. Dawkins responded to the ban by posting a Turkish translation of the article. Mr. Oktar derides Prof. Dawkins, an outspoken atheist, as “a pagan monk.”
Mr. Oktar’s combative zeal has put him in the vanguard of what some secular-minded Turks lament as a dangerous phenomenon: a retreat from science into religious dogma. “We are trying to turn the trend back, but I’m not sure we’ll be successful,” says Aykut Kence, a biology professor at Ankara’s Middle East Technical University.
Prof. Kence has worked with like-minded scholars on a series of conferences and other events marking Darwin’s birth 200 years ago and the publication, in 1859, of “On the Origin of Species.” He last week joined a chorus of secular outrage over a decision by the official journal of Turkey’s state scientific-research council to pull a planned cover story on Darwin.
“If people can’t accept Darwin, they can’t accept science. They can’t think,” says Prof. Kence.
A recent survey found that only a quarter of students entering Turkish universities accept Darwin’s theory of evolution and that the proportion is much the same when they graduate. The findings, says Prof. Kence, are “very depressing.” Continue Reading →

Spain Has No Right to Try U.S. Officials
What next? Prosecutions for bad advice on global warming?
By Douglas J. Feith
A lawyer in Spain — who did his legal studies while serving over seven years in prison for kidnapping and terrorism — has engineered a complaint accusing the U.S. government of systematically torturing war-on-terrorism detainees. He filed this complaint with Baltasar Garzon, an activist magistrate famous for championing the “universal jurisdiction” of Spanish courts. That magistrate is now asking a Spanish prosecutor to bring criminal charges on this matter against former U.S. Attorney General Alberto Gonzales, four other former Bush administration lawyers, and me.
The allegation is not that any of us tortured anyone. And it is not that any of us even directed anyone to commit torture. The allegation is that, when we advised President George W. Bush on the Geneva Conventions and detainee interrogations, our interpretations were wrong — in the view of the disapproving Spaniards. According to the complaint, these wrong interpretations encouraged the president to make decisions that led to torture. Continue Reading →
Avoid religious pilots. 10 years in jail for praying instead of flying
From Reuters:
PALERMO (Reuters) – A Tunisian pilot who paused to pray instead of taking emergency measures before crash-landing his plane, killing 16 people, has been sentenced to 10 years in jail by an Italian court along with his co-pilot.
The 2005 crash at sea off Sicily left survivors swimming for their lives, some clinging to a piece of the fuselage that remained floating after the ATR turbo-prop aircraft splintered upon impact.
A fuel-gauge malfunction was partly to blame but prosecutors also said the pilot succumbed to panic, praying out loud instead of following emergency procedures and then opting to crash-land the plane instead trying to reach a nearby airport.
Another five employees of Tuninter, a subsidiary of Tunisair, were sentenced to between eight and nine years in jail by the court, in a verdict handed down on Monday.
The seven accused, who were not in court, will not spend time in jail until the appeals process has been exhausted.
