Citizenship guide says no to ‘barbaric’ cultural practices

Canada may well be the last bastion of true liberalism in the world. If so, we as Canadians have a great deal to be proud of. Here is some rare good news and I might add, much of the good news recently overall is indeed from Canada. From the Ottawa Citizen:

Citizenship CAL0701-gyb-5.JPG

OTTAWA — A new citizenship guide for potential immigrants to Canada flatly declares that new Canadians cannot engage in “barbaric” cultural practices such as genital mutilation and “honour killings.”

The new guide, released Thursday by Jason Kenney, Minister of Citizenship, Immigration and Multiculturalism, says in a section called “Equality of Women and Men” that such practices are illegal and severely punishable under Canada’s criminal laws.

“Multiculturalism doesn’t mean that anything goes. Multiculturalism means that we celebrate what’s best about our backgrounds, but we do so on the basis of common Canadian values and respect for our laws,” said Kenney.

“It’s no secret that we’ve seen instances of culturally rooted abuse of women, so-called ‘honour killings,’ forced marriages, and spousal abuse, and even female genital mutilation. We want to make sure that people understand that multiculturalism doesn’t create an excuse to engage in those barbaric cultural practices.”

The updated guide, called Discover Canada: The Rights and Responsibilities of Citizenship, also puts greater emphasis on the obligations of citizenship, such as getting a job, as well as military history.

Kenney said it is a significant improvement from the 1997 Liberal version. Continue Reading →

France: no place for the burqua

From The Telegraph U.K.

Nicolas Sarkozy pushes for burqa ban in France

President Nicolas Sarkozy has reiterated his belief that the burqa, the head-to-toe veil worn by some Muslim women, has no place in secular France.

Published: 11:00PM GMT 12 Nov 2009

“France is a country where there is no place for the burqa, where there is no place for the subservience of women,” he said in a speech on French national identity.

France, home to Europe’s biggest Muslim minority, has set up a special panel of 32 lawmakers to consider whether a law should be enacted to bar Muslim women from wearing the full veil.

The country has had a long-running debate on how far it is willing to go to accommodate Islam without undermining the tradition of separating church and state, enshrined in a flagship 1905 law.

In 2004, it passed a law banning headscarves or any other “conspicuous” religious symbols in state schools to defend secularism.

Mr Sarkozy in June said the burqa was not a symbol of religious faith but a sign of women’s “subservience” and declared that the full veil was “not welcome” in France.

He was speaking on Thursday in the Alpine town of La Chapelle en Vercors in his first intervention in a country-wide debate begun last month on what it means to be French.

Public meetings are due to take place in some 450 government offices around the country, involving campaigners, students, parents and teachers, unions, business leaders and French and European lawmakers.

The debate will end with a conference early next year on the twin questions of “what it means to be French today” and “what immigration contributes to our national identity.”

The Socialist opposition has accused the government of pandering to anti-immigrant sentiment to shore up support on the Right ahead of regional elections in March.

It has said the debate risks alienating France’s large immigrant communities.

But Mr Sarkozy on Thursday defended the “noble debate” and said: “Those who do not want this debate are afraid of it.”

Taxi boss jailed for threats against daughter

Man threatens to break daughters lesg, kill her

Man threatens to break daughters lesg, kill her

By MEGAN GILLIS, Courts Bureau

Last Updated: 11th November 2009, 7:26am

The city’s taxi union boss was handed a year in jail Tuesday for what a judge deemed an “honour crime.”

Yusef Salam Al Mezel, 44, had pleaded guilty to criminally harassing his 23-year-old daughter, Eman, over three weeks in July 2007.

“Mr. Al Mezel has threatened his daughter with serious violence and has caused her to fear for her safety in the name of honour,” Judge Lynn Ratushny wrote. “He has committed the crime of harassment against her in the name of honour.”

Al Mezel admitted to pushing his daughter, threatening to break her legs and kill her and smashing her computer. When she fled marriage to a Syrian man for a $9,000 dowry, he stalked her to a shelter and a friend’s home.

He sent her e-mails threatening her uncles and cousins would go “crazy” over the family’s honour and to come home before someone got hurt.

Police spirited the young woman — and the family sheltering her — out of Ottawa.

There’s no evidence Al Mezel would have killed her but his threats “invoke a seriously dangerous belief system that can and has led to violence against women,” Ratushny wrote.

The judge noted that Al Mezel, who came from Kuwait 20 years ago, is a community leader — a founder of his mosque, city council candidate and representative of 1,500 taxi drivers.

But she wrote that a year is the minimum to denounce what he’s done and deter others.

The Crown had asked for up to two years.

Eman Al Mezel testified she’d stained the family “sharaf” by running away and shedding the hijab and killing her was the only way to clean it.

Al Mezel’s other daughters testified that their father was never violent and is a religious “modernist.” His brothers testified the family are “lefties” and believe men and women are equals.

Al Mezel himself said that listening to expert evidence on honour crimes was like hearing about a “different world” — he’d never, he said, lived in that world or held those beliefs.

Al Mezel’s lawyer, Geraldine Castle-Trudel, argued at sentencing that Al Mezel was a desperate father who wanted to bring his daughter home and the victim of anti-Muslim stereotypes. She’d sought probation.

“My heart breaks for him and his family,” she said Tuesday. “He’s a really, really decent person who made a very bad mistake.”

Italian TV show dares to spout a little truth

Not sure what the context is here exactly. It would appear that an Italian TV show, debating something about the decision to remove crosses from schools in Italy, has a panelist who states some things about Islam the muslims in the audience do not like. The funny thing is, she is wrong on her facts. Mohamed did not marry a nine year old. He married Aisha when she was six, and had sex with her often but did not have genital to genital sex with her till she was nine. The host mistakenly says he married her when she was nine.

Some great comments on this which I have moved here into the body of the post:

First a note from the translator, jdamn:

Here’s your context: http://theforceofreason.com/2009/11/09/movement-for-italy-leader-daniela-santanche-calls-muhammad-a-pedophile-on-canale-5/
Then, a comment from HellenoChristian (Thank you by the way)

  1. The translation doesn’t accurately report what the Islamic speaker said, which is – while Daniela Santaché told him about Muhammad’s poligamy, and Aysha’s age -: “shut up you don’t know anything. We are talking about serious things here, not about disgusting things like you are” then very summarized that “man” says that Daniela Santaché – which is simply reporting the Reality of Islamic History – is an ignorant (I guess: either this man is an ignorant or he is a practitioner of taqiyyah – he scruplelessly and publically lies ).

Then the Islamic fundamentalist bearded of the public aggresses Daniela Santaché saying that Islam recognize all the Prophets (well: who cares? Prophets do not need Islam’s approval to exist!), Jesus included, and this is pure taqiyyah in action, since Islam curses every Religion which is not his (own Cult which he called) Islam, and it denies Jesus’s crucifixion which is a very central event in Christianity, both symbolically for Aesotherical Christianity and practically, because it shows TRUE MARTYRDOM and Jesus’s crucifixion exposes the FAKE ISLAMIC MARTYRDOM, which first of all a MURDER, sometimes combined to suicide, too [even Japanese kamikazes feel very offended when people calls Islamic murders a kamikaze – Japanese followed an ethical Code before sacrificing their lives, while Islamic people are Ethicless and murder innocents in the name of their Mafiaboss Muhammad and his fake god Allah -]. I personally wonder: do all Islamic fundamentalists move to the West and Europe?!

Anyway this pseudo Debate makes me understand something: Islam really is taqiyyah, and the way it calls itself is the perfect example and evidence of it, since Islam publically calls itself “a Religion” and “of Peace”. It actually is EXACTELY THE OPPOSITE

I would add, that Muslims frequently make the claim that they respect the other prophets as a way of making it appear they are being treated asymmetrically at that level. But they rewrote the nature of other religions so as to make their principle symbols unrecognizable. To Muslims, Jesus was a Muslim for example. So they do not respect him, other than their own sort of, ‘fun house mirror’ version of him. Much like everything in Islam actually is a warped mirror of things with actual value or decency. They often attempt to stop any discussion of Mohamed however by claiming that they treat the symbols of other religions with respect.

Thanks again to jdamn for the translation and KitmanTV for subtitling

Senator Lieberman calls for investigation into Fort Hood massacre

Lieberman Says Senate Will Investigate Fort Hood Shootings

Monday, November 09, 2009
By Staff, Associated Press
Washington (AP) – The chairman of the Senate Homeland Security Committee says he plans to begin a congressional investigation of the shootings at Fort Hood.

An Army major, Nidal Malik Hasan is suspected of killing 13 people and wounding 29 others at the Army post in Texas.

Sen. Joe Lieberman says he wants to determine whether the shootings constitute a terrorist attack. He says he also wants to find out whether the Army missed warning signs that Hasan was becoming extreme in his Islamist views.

The Connecticut independent says if Hasan was showing signs of becoming an Islamist radical, the Army should have shown “zero tolerance” and discharged him.

Lieberman appeared on “Fox News Sunday.”

Repost: Woman shoots attacker, kills him, wins award from government.

I am re-posting this because it bears noticing, that the western world for decades now has been teaching us to submit to violent criminals and not to fight back theoretically to minimize any damage criminals may wish to do to us. Clearly it is the wrong strategy. The answer is always resist terrorists, extortionists, criminals and all who would do you harm even your own governments when they are acting unjustly to you and your genuine human rights as an individual using any and all means at your disposal. This woman’s brave actions will give pause to the next bunch of thugs that wish and expect “kingly” treatment from the next home invasion they do.

Please let us all follow her magnificent example. And the next time the police give a lecture on how to submit to criminals and hope they go away, remember they have guns and in Canada at least, forbid those of us who pay the police from having them. So its easy for them to say.

Rukhsana Kauser with the gun she snatched from one of the militants.

Rukhsana Kausar, 21, was with her parents and brother in Jammu and Kashmir when three gunmen, believed to be Pakistani militants, forced their way in and demanded food and beds for the night.

Their house in Shahdra Sharief, Rajouri district, is about 20 miles from the ceasefire line between Indian and Pakistani forces.

It is close to dense forests known as hiding places for fighters from the Lashkar-e-Taiba group, which carried out the Mumbai terrorist attack last November.

Militants often demand food and lodging in nearby villages.

When they forced their way into Miss Kausar’s home, her father Noor Mohammad refused their demands and was attacked.

His daughter was hiding under a bed when she heard him crying as the gunmen thrashed him with sticks. According to police, she ran towards her father’s attacker and struck him with an axe. As he collapsed, she snatched his AK47 and shot him dead. Continue Reading →

War chest for legal defense: File this away somewhere, many of us may need it soon

Daniel Huff Appointed Legal Project Director
November 3, 2009
http://www.meforum.org/2493/daniel-huff-appointed-legal-project-director

PHILADELPHIA – The Middle East Forum is pleased to announce the appointment of Daniel Huff as director of the Legal Project. Mr. Huff succeeds Brooke Goldstein who led the Project since 2007.

Dedicated to providing legal aid for anti-Islamist researchers and activists in danger of having their free speech curtailed, the Legal Project assists with litigation costs, arranges for pro bono counsel, and works with policymakers to publicize and address this growing threat.

Mr. Huff served as counsel on the Senate Judiciary Committee to Ranking Member Arlen Specter, handling a number of national security, civil, and criminal matters. One of his priorities as committee staff was the Free Speech Protection Act designed to combat “libel tourism,” the practice of intimidating U.S. authors by suing them for libel in foreign jurisdictions less protective of free speech rights.

Prior to his work in Washington, Mr. Huff was a management consultant with McKinsey & Co. in New York City. A member of the New York Bar, he is a graduate of Columbia Law School where he was a Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar. He holds an undergraduate degree in mathematics, economics and history from the University of Toronto.

Middle East Forum director Daniel Pipes welcomed Mr. Huff, observing that he brings “a unique blend of legal, business, and political experience instrumental to our efforts.”

Explaining his enthusiasm for the position, Mr. Huff cited the Supreme Court’s statement that those “who won our independence believed… the path of safety lies in the opportunity to discuss freely supposed grievances and proposed remedies.” Mr. Huff adds, “That is precisely why our enemies are resorting to lawsuits to suppress information about radical Islam, and why they must not succeed.”

UN troubled by minaret initiative

From Swissinfo.ch

h/t Gates of Vienna

United Nations human rights specialists have expressed concerns over November’s anti-minaret vote and “discriminatory” poster campaign in Switzerland.

Swiss anti minarette poster

Swiss anti minarette poster

The comments by the Geneva-based UN Human Rights Committee were made in conclusions on Swiss progress in implementing the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR), which is monitored by the body of experts.

Switzerland should “strenuously ensure respect of freedom of religion and firmly combat incitement to discrimination, hostility and violence”, the committee declared.

Among other recommendations, they said the Federal Commission against Racism should be strengthened to investigate all cases of racial discrimination and incitement to national, racial or religious hatred. Otherwise, an independent mechanism able to initiate legal action should be set up. Continue Reading →

Son of Radical Islam Leader Killed in FBI Shootout Caught in Canada

Luqman Ameen Abdullah FOXNEWS… One of three people sought by the FBI was captured in Canada Thursday and two were still on the loose after a federal raid and deadly shooting of a radical Islam leader whose goal authorities say was to take down the U.S. government.
Federal authorities in Detroit said the son of 53-year-old Luqman Ameen Abdullah, who was killed in Wednesday night’s shootout with FBI agents, was arrested across the border in Windsor, Ontario.

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police took 30-year-old Mujahid Carswell, who was considered armed and dangerous, into custody Thursday. No other details were released.

Carswell was among 11 people charged Wednesday in a criminal complaint in federal court in Detroit.

Andrew Arena, the head of the FBI office in Detroit, says the men follow “a very hybrid radical ideology” that mainstream Muslims “would not recognize.”

Abdullah was killed in a gunbattle in the Detroit suburb of Dearborn as federal agents tried to arrest him on a number of charges including conspiracy to sell stolen goods and the illegal possession and sale of firearms.

Abdullah repeatedly told followers that the U.S. government was their enemy and they should be willing to fight the FBI, even if it meant death, according to the criminal complaint against him.

“You cannot have a nonviolent revolution,” Luqman Ameen Abdullah said, according to a 2008 conversation secretly recorded by a confidential FBI source.

Abdullah was killed Wednesday at a warehouse in Dearborn, where agents were attempting to arrest him. FBI spokeswoman Sandra Berchtold said Abdullah refused to surrender, fired a weapon and was killed by gunfire from agents.

He was one of 11 people named in a criminal complaint after a two-year investigation.

Among the others charged with Abdullah and in custody were a state prison inmate, the U.S. attorney’s office said.

Another man not named in the complaint also was arrested.

The 43-page complaint described Abdullah as an extremist who believed the FBI bombed New York’s World Trade Center in 1993 and the Oklahoma City federal building two years later.

Abdullah beat children with sticks at his Detroit mosque, the complaint claimed, and was trained with his followers in the use of firearms, martial arts and swords. Continue Reading →

British Muslim turned away from school for burka

At last someone is forcing a Muslim to actually make a choice. For the rest of us, we are all familiar with the notion that each choice may and will preclude other ones. For example, a nudist will have several places where he or she may not practice their lifestyle while simultaniously in public. It is something we all accept. Muslims however have been on a very deliberate world wide campaign to force the rest of humanity to adapt to Muslim choices, many of them arbitrary and not even in effect in fully Muslim nations, to show that no choice to practice Islam needs to limit any other choice, no matter how counter-productive those choices may be to any other activity.

So at last, a school has said enough. If you wear a burka you cannot come here. While many may object to this rule certainly none should object to the notion that we also have the right to set rules and limits for whatever institutions we may control, and that people may chose our institutions or their own. We do not nor should we have any obligation to adapt. Existence itself is one of choice. Make the right ones and prosper. Make the wrong ones and go extinct, either as a people, a germ line, or as a culture.

From The Sun UK:

No face…

woman in burka

A COLLEGE has banned a Muslim woman from becoming a student – because she will not take off a veil hiding her face.

Shawana Bilqes, 18, was turned away after trying to enrol on a course.

Staff asked her to remove her burka – which covers everything but her eyes – for identity fraud purposes.

But she told them she could not because of her religious beliefs, and was forced to abandon plans to sign up for the Access course to Higher Education Diploma.

Yesterday Shawana, from Burnley, Lancs, said: “It is my choice to wear the veil.

“I live around the corner from the college in an area where there are so many practising Muslims.

Melanie Phillips: The BNP Vs. Islamonazis.

Melanie does her usual excellent job of analyzing some important aspects of UK politics.

“This is why all decent people must join in the fight against Islamic supremacism. Support for the BNP would plummet if the political mainstream were to limit immigration, denounce cultural Islamic imperialism and refuse to give one inch to sharia law, saying no to polygamy, sharia finance, sharia courts and all attempts to set up a parallel Islamic society in Britain.”

October 22, 2009

The clash of uncivilisations

Spectator, 24 October 2009

The frenzy over the participation of BNP leader Nick Griffin on Question Time this week has been a classic case of failing to identify the real elephant in the room.

By fixating on the ‘far right’ as the supremely evil force in British public life, the mainstream political class has failed to grasp that a half-baked neo-Nazi rabble is not the main issue. There is another more lethal type of fascism on the march in the form of Islamic supremacism.

The Islamists, or jihadis, are intent upon snuffing out individual freedom and imposing a totalitarian regime of submission to religious dogma which erodes and then replaces British and Western values. Now these two types of fascism are doing battle with each other — and with the white working class and lower-middle classes caught between them.

For it is the intense anger of these people with the fact that — as they see it — they are the ignored victims of the jihadis that is driving them into the arms of the BNP.

There are, of course, many factors fuelling BNP support. Most broadly, increasing numbers at the lower end of the social scale feel the mainstream parties are ignoring their most pressing concerns. Most of these anxieties involve British national identity: uncontrolled immigration, multiculturalism, the loss to the EU of Britain’s ability to govern itself.

Most toxic of all, however, is the threat from Islamic supremacism and the concern of the disenfranchised white voters that the political establishment is supinely going along with the progressive Islamisation of Britain. Continue Reading →

Opposition to anti-extremist Islam march

Supporting extremist Islam is now the norm for left wing liberals in Britain while condemning is, well, condemned. Anyone else confused?

Welsh Defense League BBCNEWS…Around 200 people gathered to protest about a demonstration against Islamic extremism by the Welsh Defence League (WLD) in Swansea.

It was in reaction to around 60 members of the WLD staging a march in the city.

Despite police hopes the two groups would stage marches in different areas of the city, they converged.

Around 200 police, some on horses, kept the groups apart. One man, 25, was arrested for a racially aggravated public order offence.

Roads were closed in order for the demonstrations to go ahead.

Speaking before its demonstration, the WLD said its event would be peaceful, but protests by its sister organisation the English Defence League have ended in disorder.

Welsh Secretary Peter Hain has accused the WDL of using “boot boy tactics”.

But the WLD denied being racist and called Mr Hain’s comments “nonsense”.

A number of opposition groups were involved in the counter-demonstration.

Police had hoped the two groups would hold separate demonstrations. But despite their efforts, the groups came within close proximity of each other.

Dozens of officers lined the streets, included several officers on horses in order to keep the protest groups apart.

“When you bring two groups together… there’s going to be passion, and that’s what we have had today,” said Ch Supt Mark Mathias during the demonstrations.

“So far it has been mostly peaceful.

“Originally we did two protest sites – two assembly points. We did think we could have two distinct locations either side of the city.

“Obviously that hasn’t happened but so far, both groups have been kept separate.”

Speaking after the event, he said: “I am pleased with the success the police operation today, which allowed the protests to pass off peacefully, whilst taking into the account the rights of the people of Swansea to go about their normal business.

“I would to thank them for patience and understanding for any disruption that was caused.

“People have the right to protest but overall the safety of the public and maintaining order is a priority.”

It is understood a second WDL protest planned in Newport next weekend has been called off.
