Another Muslim intellectual surprised by Islamic extremism

Rome, 15 October (AKI) – The president of the association of Italian Muslims, Ahmad Gianpiero Vincenzo, has urged measures to tackle the problem of religious extremism. “We need to analyse fundamentalism and develop practical action to combat this,” said Vincenzo. His call came after a 35-year-old Libyan earlier this week carried out a botched bomb attack against a military barracks in Italy’s northern city of Milan.

“We know very little about the channels through which extremists are being funded,” said Vincenzo.

He is also a consultant on immigration for the Italian Senate’s Constitutional Affairs Commission and a member of Rome Mosque’s General Assembly.

“We also need to know the extremists’ geographical distribution across the country and the real targets of their propaganda,” Vincenzo said.

Until now, very little has been done in Italy to support the creation of a moderate, official Islam, he noted.

“There is no public funding for the training of imams. This can only result in self-styled preachers and dodgy sources of funding,” Vincenzo said.

He and a group of Italian jurists are drafting legislation that would regulate places of worship for religions like Islam which don’t currently have an agreement with the Italian state.

“The bill will place greater value on institutions that are officially recognised by the Italian state, such as Rome’s Grand Mosque.

“And it sanctions the creation of schools for imams and mosques which are managed with maximum degree of transparency,” he concluded.

He then continues on to say blah blah blah yada yada yada Islam means peace. Sure bud, we’ve heard this crap before.

A Libyan man who tried to bomb a Milan army barracks had accomplices and belonged to a group that had more explosives ready, Italian police said today.

Newspapers said the 35-year-old failed suicide bomber, Mohammed Game, who was seriously wounded in the attack, was an unsuccessful businessman who turned to militant Islam and wanted Italy to pull out of Afghanistan.

Police said they had arrested two suspected accomplices, an Egyptian and a Libyan, and found 100 kg of “fertilisers and other materials,” used to make explosives, at one of their homes.

Mr. Game got inside the perimeter of the Santa Barbara barracks early on Monday and detonated his bomb while shouting in Arabic. But an army corporal managed to stop him getting close to the main building and a defect meant the bomb only detonated partly. The corporal was only slightly hurt while Mr. Game lost both eyes in the explosion and later had one arm amputated.

Interior Undersecretary Alfredo Mantovano said the incident “confirms there are people in Italy, alone or in cells, who see themselves as our enemy and want to hit symbolic or real targets using input received from mosque circles or the Internet.”

An immigrant with a residence permit who is married to an Italian woman, with four children, Mr. Game prayed regularly at Milan’s main Jenner Street mosque and had not appeared to be an extremist, said the mosque’s president, Abdel Hamid Shaari.

Newspaper reports said that after failing in the restaurant business, Mr. Game became increasingly militant and told friends that Italian troops “should not be in Afghanistan any more. Someone has got to make them understand that.”

Police found about 40 kg of ammonium nitrate in an apartment as well as some 60 kg of chemicals to make explosive devices similar to the one Mr. Game used, the magistrates investigating the case said in a statement.

The Santa Barbara barracks is home to signals, artillery and cavalry units currently making up part of Italy’s 3,100-strong contribution to NATO’s mission in Afghanistan. Italy pulled out of Iraq in 2006.

Security officials have called Monday’s attack an “isolated incident” but acknowledge that the barracks had been identified as a potential target for an attack by Islamic militants. Intelligence reports and arrests show that militant groups linked to al-Qaeda, especially in North Africa, are active in Italy, mostly in recruiting and financing for attacks planned elsewhere in Europe or to fight in Afghanistan and Iraq.

Political violence in Italy itself in recent years has consisted mostly of small-scale incidents linked to remnants of the leftist Red Brigade guerrillas active in the 1970s and ‘80s.

Milan, 12 October (AKI) – The Libyan who detonated a bomb at the ‘Santa Barbara’ military barracks on Monday, Mohammed Game, prayed at Milan’s Viale Jenner Mosque, said the head of the Islamic Institute in Milan. “He is a Libyan who hung out everywhere and who even prayed with us, just like thousands of others do, but we did not know him very well,” said the institute’s president Abdel Hamid Shaari in an interview with Adnkronos.

“He prayed and then he left. He wouldn’t stay around,” said Shaari. He added that Game was last seen at the mosque over 20 days ago, towards the end of the holy fasting month of Ramadan.

On Monday, an Italian soldier was injured after 35-year-old Game exploded a bomb hidden inside a toolbox at the entrance of the ‘Santa Barbara’ barracks (photo). The man is said to have entered the courtyard of the barracks on foot, where he was confronted by a military guard.

He then detonated the rudimentary explosives, which were reportedly made of solid nitrate.

The toolbox where the man hid the explosive device contained two more kilogrammes of explosives, and according to reports, it only partially detonated.

Authorities have said if the entire load had detonated, there would definitely have been deaths.

Early reports said the man shouted: “The army must leave Afghanistan!” which according to authorities is not true.

“After the blast, the man did say something, but according to witnesses his words were unintelligible as they were all in Arabic,” said public prosecutor Armando Spataro.

“He had a dark coloured jacket and his face was bloody. He shouted: Help me, Help me!” said a witness, Giovanni L, a sergeant major.

According to the witness, when Game was being taken to the hospital he “pointed a finger towards the sky, like a victory sign.”

Game, had been living in Italy for many years and lived with an Italian woman with whom they have three children. A train ticket from the southern city of Naples to Milan was found to be in his possession, although it is still unclear if and when he took the train and for which reason.

Italian authorities said Game lived close to the barracks and that he slept at his apartment in Milan the night before the attack.

The injured Italian soldier was hit by shards of glass and received medical treatment at the scene of the attack which took place at 7.45 am local time.

Following the attack, Game was taken to the Fatebenefratelli hospital in Milan where he was reported to be in critical condition.

The Libyan man suffered severe injuries to his face and eyesight and his hand has been amputated, according to medical sources at Fatebenefratelli hospital.

THE anti-immigration mayor of a northern Italian city has barred Muslim women from wearing the controversial body-concealing swimsuit known as a burqini, it was reported.

Women wearing the garment made up of a veil, a tunic and loose leggings face a fine of 500 euros ($850) if spotted at swimming pools or riversides in the northern Piedmont town of Varallo Sesia, said the ANSA news agency today.

“The sight of a ‘masked woman’ could disturb small children not to mention problems of hygiene,” mayor Gianluca Buonanno was quoted as saying.

“We don’t have to be tolerant all the time,” he said.

Justifying the move, Mr Buonanno said: “Imagine a Western woman bathing in a bikini in a Muslim country. The consequences could be decapitation, prison or deportation. We are merely prohibiting the use of the burqini.”

Last week a swimming pool in Paris refused entry to a burqini-clad Muslim on similar grounds, adding to tensions over Muslim dress in France.

The incident came as French MPs conducted hearings on whether to ban the burqa after President Nicolas Sarkozy said the head-to-toe body covering and veil was “not welcome” in France, home to Europe’s biggest Muslim minority.

Mr Buonanno belongs to Italy’s Northern League, a party allied with the centre-right People of Freedom led by Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi. It has backed several initiatives hostile to Muslims.

The numbers are startling. Only 3.2 per cent of Spain’s population was foreign-born in 1998. In 2007 it was 13.4 per cent. Europe’s Muslim population has more than doubled in the past 30 years and will have doubled again by 2015. In Brussels, the top seven baby boys’ names recently were Mohamed, Adam, Rayan, Ayoub, Mehdi, Amine and Hamza.

Europe’s low white birth rate, coupled with faster multiplying migrants, will change fundamentally what we take to mean by European culture and society. The altered population mix has far-reaching implications for education, housing, welfare, labour, the arts and everything in between. It could have a critical impact on foreign policy: a study was submitted to the US Air Force on how America’s relationship with Europe might evolve. Yet EU officials admit that these issues are not receiving the attention they deserve.

Jerome Vignon, the director for employment and social affairs at the European Commission, said that the focus of those running the EU had been on asylum seekers and the control of migration rather than the integration of those already in the bloc. “It has certainly been underestimated – there is a general rhetoric that social integration of migrants should be given as much importance as monitoring the inflow of migrants.” But, he said, the rhetoric had rarely led to policy.

The countries of the EU have long histories of welcoming migrants, but in recent years two significant trends have emerged. Migrants have come increasingly from outside developed economies, and they have come in accelerating numbers.

The growing Muslim population is of particular interest. This is not because Muslims are the only immigrants coming into the EU in large numbers; there are plenty of entrants from all points of the compass. Comment from Bostom’s video on youtube

The Andrew Bostom video I posted (Thanks Jdamn) last week on youtube and embedded here has garnered a few views. The comments thread is rather interesting so I thought I would re post some of them over here. I’ll also post the video as well for anyone who has not seen it. It is a short lecture on the facts of ‘dhimmitude’ meaning life under Islamic rule or a Muslim dominated nation.

And now, a few of the comments:

First, the usual relativist nonsense attempting to mitigate the horrors of Islam with the claim that Christianity was as bad or worse  some time ago, so Islam should not be considered to be a great threat. I sincerely do not understand how this line of reasoning works because in my universe, if it was bad then, it is bad now so even if these ‘temporal relativists’ are correct it does nothing to mitigate Islam. In any event, here is the comment that inspired a great response:

You need to do more research.

In Catholic controlled lands, people? were put to death for Pagan or Jewish rituals. Jews were considered to be bad luck and kept under close guard in parts of the city then killed whenever something went wrong to appease “God”.

Scholars were generally suppressed, most of pre-Christiandom learning was destroyed in Europe because it contradicted the bible.
All barbarism in the Koran has an equivalent in the Torah/Old Testament. It is not at all inconsistent.

Will Durant in his book “The Story of Civilization: Our Oriental Heritage”:

“The Mohammedan conquest of India is probably the bloodiest story in history. Aurangzeb, one of the last Muslim emperors had 10,000 Hindus massacred? everyday for a year. He alone was responsible for the massacre of at least 3,650,000 Hindus and destruction of more than 11,000 Hindu temples. William Durant, author of the voluminous “Story of Civilization” has described the Muslim conquests in India as constituting the saddest and goriest chapter in human history. Muslims have destroyed and looted the whole country and have killed countless innocent Hindus in the process.

And this is all so different than the Christian invasion of the Americas… HOW?…
If India’s population ever dropped by 80%, they would not be the second most populous country in the world.
On the other hand, we can say without any hesitation that Christians killed and? raped 90% of TWO ENTIRE CONTINENTS of people.
Compare what the Muslims did to the Indians compared to what Christians did to the “Indians” and it is clear the followers of Jesus are even more violent and bloodthirsty.

If you had hesitated to check your facts, you would know that the majority of North American Indians who died, did so because? of their lack of immunity to smallpox and other European diseases, few were forcibly converted to christianity or the victims of orders for the execution of 10,000 per day.

Unlike Jihad, the Crusades were never justified on the basis of New Testament teachings. This is why they are an anomaly, the brief interruption of centuries of relentless Jihad? against Christianity that began long before the Crusades and continued well after they were over.

Unsurprisingly, vast hordes of people who loathe Western civilization and wish to destroy it, moving in to civilized lands, tend to create a backlash against all those who are perceived to be outsiders. What a shame that various governments in the West did not act more prophylactically against Islam in order to better preserve liberalism. H/T jdamn

Addendum: The position taken by Guardia Nazionale Italiana is also the position of La Lega Nord party of Italy with regard to immigration, which continues to enjoy tremendous, some say unprecedented, popularity.
