13.11.09: The extent of rape in Sweden is so monstrous that the situation may fairly be characterized as epidemic. In the European context, Sweden is in a category all its own, with 5,446 reported rapes in 2008 – a figure that places Sweden far ahead of every other country in Europe in the incidence of rape in proportion to the total population. Rapes are twice as common in Sweden as in Great Britain, which takes second place. Unless we at HRS have missed something, Social Democratic leader Mona Sahlin and company have not commented on this distinction – probably because men with non-Western backgrounds are heavily overrepresented among the perpetrators. On September 9, a group of individuals who have had enough of this silence on the part of Swedish media and politicians launched the website Stoppavåldtäkterna.nu (”stop the rapes”).

It’s almost incomprehensible that what’s happening in our neighboring country can be taking place without causing a public outcry. Fifteen girls or women are raped every day. Yes, you read that correctly – fifteen every day! And that’s just the ones that are reported. This figure is thought to represent about 90-95 percent of committed rapes. Many of the victims are children. And many of the rapes are gang rapes.
Swedish politicians and media have paid very little attention to this ghastly fact, and one has to wonder if this means that rape has become such an everyday occurrence that the Swedish psyche has come to accept it as a normal part of life. Violent rapes and gang rapes of children no longer count as ”news.”
Now an independent citizens’ group wants to put an end to this abdication of responsibility by Swedish officials. Four days ago they launched the website Stoppavåldtäkterna.nu. Their purpose, according to their press release, is to try to prevent rapes by means of an information campaign and self-defense courses.
The campaign’s primary aim is to inform as many Swedes as possible about this often taboo subject, since it is impossible to fix a problem that no one wants to acknowledge.
But the campaign is also intended to provide information to women and parents for purely preventative purposes. We intend to increase their awareness of risk and their capacity for self-defense, as well as to help them deal with the aftermath of rape, by supplying tips, advice, and useful information.
Finally, one objective of the campaign is to put pressure on decision-makers – not only politicians but also the mass media, which inevitably wield great responsibility for the safety of citizens in this country, because they control social debates and decide which questions are considered worthy of discussion.
The objective is to reduce the number of rapes by every possible means.
The number of rapes in our neighboring country has risen dramatically from year to year, from 350 reported rapes in 1950 to 800 in 1975, after which the numbers exploded beginning in the 1990s – a development which coincided with the leap in non-Western immigration. Until that time, gang rapes were a virtually unknown phenomenon in Sweden (and Norway). In 2006, however, a dizzying 18 percent of all reported rapes were gang rapes.
The total number of rapes (including violent rapes) reported to the police rose gradually from barely 350 in 1950 to 800 in 1975. After that, the rate climbed steeply to over 2,100 in 1993. Since then, the curve has become increasingly steep with every passing year. In 2003 the number of reported rapes exceeded 2,500 for the first time. After the new sex crimes law went into effect in April 2005, the figure jumped from about 3,800 to just over 4,700 in 2007. Since then, the increase has continued at an undiminished pace, and in 2008 the number of rapes reported was 5450.
The number of rapes of children under 15 years old climbed from just over 700 in 1975 to about 1,400 in 2008 – an increase of 200%.
The number of reported outdoor rapes rose by slightly over 300 percent between 1975 and 2007. The largest increase is in the number of reported indoor rapes, which has risen by almost 650 percent since 1975.
The number of gang rapes has risen dramatically during the last decades – jumping by at least 377% during the years 1995 to 2006.
Unlike Swedish authorities and many researchers, the founders of the new website will not sweep the perpetrators’ origins under the carpet. According to official Swedish figures, foreign-born people are accused of rape five times more often than men with Swedish-born parents. Finns, Americans, and all other rapists of Western origin are included in this figure. Sweden clearly prefers not to acknowledge publicly what is obviously the case: namely, that men with non-Western backgrounds are highly overrepresented in the rape statistics, and especially in the statistics on assault rapes and gang rapes. The purpose of releasing such information would not be to stigmatize but to prevent.
Certain ethnic groups commit a disproportionate number of sexual offenses. We do not intend to speculate why this is the case; we will leave theories about cultural or biological backgrounds to others. We don’t want, however, to conceal facts that may prevent rapes. Likewise, we do not intend to deny important information to potential rape victims concerning potential rapists. We are not governed by political considerations, as is the BRÅ [Brottsförebyggande rådet, i.e. Council for Crime Prevention], nor do we need to conceal or distort the facts and statistics so that they will fit into a politically correct template. On the other hand, we are acting in accordance with the law, and are thus striving not to look down on or in any other sense disparage various ethnic groups in a way that would violate the law on Persecution of Ethnic Groups. First here is a report from a left leaning Scandinavian paper on rape in Norway. Typically, this paper did not report facts and likely mocked and scorned those who did. However facts have a way of changing minds. Or perhaps the editor has a daughter or wife. In any case go over to Gates and read it. I will paste a sample below.
The Observer sends the following translation of an article about the latest rape statistics in Norway, which — surprise — turn out to be significantly culturally enriched.
First, a note from the translator:
This article is from town of Stavanger on the western coast of Norway. It concerns the big increase in rapes and attempted rapes in the city, and the fact that non-Westerners are behind almost all of these rapes.
The editors of the local rag, Stavanger-Aftenbladet — which by the way is an outlet for politically correct journalism — have realized at last that it’s no use trying to hide the facts in these cases anymore, and they have finally published a very politically incorrect article about the matter.
And why not? Anybody in the city with half a brain knows that the perpetrators are non-Western males.
It’s funny — when I was young, women could walk around freely in Stavanger at any hour of the day without having to fear for their own safety. Back then there were hardly any non-Westerners in the city. I was probably 13 or 14 before I ever saw a black person. Now there is a big immigrant community in the city, and crime rates have gone through the roof.

A SYDNEY couple has withdrawn their two children from a public primary school, claiming their 11-year-old son was bullied by Muslim students because he ate a salami sandwich during Ramadan.
Andrew Grigoriou said yesterday he complained to the school and to police after his son Antonios was chased and later assaulted by Muslim students after a confrontation over the contents of his lunch, The Daily Telegraph reports.
Antonios, a Year 5 student of Greek-Australian background at Punchbowl Public School in Sydney’s southwest, said he and a friend had to be locked inside the library for an hour after being chased by a group of Muslim boys offended by his choice of food while they were fasting.
The Grigoriou family said the following exchange took place:
Muslim student to Antonios: “Why are you eating ham, it’s Ramadan?”
Antonios: “My mum packed this for lunch today.”
Muslim student: “Don’t eat that. How can you eat pig, it’s disgusting.”
During the confrontation a Muslim boy allegedly accused Antonios of saying: “F— the Muslims” but Antonios denied swearing.
Mr Grigoriou said he removed his son and a younger child from the school on Tuesday after the boy was punched in the eye and kicked in the legs by a Muslim student. Continue Reading →

“France is a country where there is no place for the burqa, where there is no place for the subservience of women,” he said in a speech on French national identity.
France, home to Europe’s biggest Muslim minority, has set up a special panel of 32 lawmakers to consider whether a law should be enacted to bar Muslim women from wearing the full veil.
The country has had a long-running debate on how far it is willing to go to accommodate Islam without undermining the tradition of separating church and state, enshrined in a flagship 1905 law.
In 2004, it passed a law banning headscarves or any other “conspicuous” religious symbols in state schools to defend secularism.
Mr Sarkozy in June said the burqa was not a symbol of religious faith but a sign of women’s “subservience” and declared that the full veil was “not welcome” in France.
He was speaking on Thursday in the Alpine town of La Chapelle en Vercors in his first intervention in a country-wide debate begun last month on what it means to be French.
Public meetings are due to take place in some 450 government offices around the country, involving campaigners, students, parents and teachers, unions, business leaders and French and European lawmakers.
The debate will end with a conference early next year on the twin questions of “what it means to be French today” and “what immigration contributes to our national identity.”
The Socialist opposition has accused the government of pandering to anti-immigrant sentiment to shore up support on the Right ahead of regional elections in March.
It has said the debate risks alienating France’s large immigrant communities.
But Mr Sarkozy on Thursday defended the “noble debate” and said: “Those who do not want this debate are afraid of it.”

The city’s taxi union boss was handed a year in jail Tuesday for what a judge deemed an “honour crime.”
Yusef Salam Al Mezel, 44, had pleaded guilty to criminally harassing his 23-year-old daughter, Eman, over three weeks in July 2007.
“Mr. Al Mezel has threatened his daughter with serious violence and has caused her to fear for her safety in the name of honour,” Judge Lynn Ratushny wrote. “He has committed the crime of harassment against her in the name of honour.”
Al Mezel admitted to pushing his daughter, threatening to break her legs and kill her and smashing her computer. When she fled marriage to a Syrian man for a $9,000 dowry, he stalked her to a shelter and a friend’s home.
He sent her e-mails threatening her uncles and cousins would go “crazy” over the family’s honour and to come home before someone got hurt.
Police spirited the young woman — and the family sheltering her — out of Ottawa.
There’s no evidence Al Mezel would have killed her but his threats “invoke a seriously dangerous belief system that can and has led to violence against women,” Ratushny wrote.
The judge noted that Al Mezel, who came from Kuwait 20 years ago, is a community leader — a founder of his mosque, city council candidate and representative of 1,500 taxi drivers.
But she wrote that a year is the minimum to denounce what he’s done and deter others.
The Crown had asked for up to two years.
Eman Al Mezel testified she’d stained the family “sharaf” by running away and shedding the hijab and killing her was the only way to clean it.
Al Mezel’s other daughters testified that their father was never violent and is a religious “modernist.” His brothers testified the family are “lefties” and believe men and women are equals.
Al Mezel himself said that listening to expert evidence on honour crimes was like hearing about a “different world” — he’d never, he said, lived in that world or held those beliefs.
Al Mezel’s lawyer, Geraldine Castle-Trudel, argued at sentencing that Al Mezel was a desperate father who wanted to bring his daughter home and the victim of anti-Muslim stereotypes. She’d sought probation.
“My heart breaks for him and his family,” she said Tuesday. “He’s a really, really decent person who made a very bad mistake.”

The head of Ottawa’s taxi union has been sentenced to 12 months in jail for threatening his daughter with an honour crime if she did not obey his wishes.
Ontario Superior Court Justice Lynn Ratushny said the sentence was the minimum penalty that Yusef Al Mezel could serve to address the “strong need” for denunciation and general deterrence after he implied that the actions of his 23-year-old daughter would be met with violence because she had shamed and dishonoured her family.
While the judge recognized Al Mezel was a respected community leader whose threats would not likely result in an honour killing, she said they do remain as threats of some possible form of violence in the name of honour that required significant condemnation.
“They invoke a seriously dangerous belief system that can and has led to violence against women,” said Ratushny.
“Mr. Al Mezel has threatened his daughter with serious violence and has caused her to fear for her safety in the name of honour. He has committed the crime of harassment against her in the name of honour,” she said.
“He has professed no adherence to any personal belief in there being any justification for honour killings, however he has committed another form of honour crime by deliberately and repeatedly invoking the concept of violence against her in the name of honour,” said Ratushny.
Al Mezel’s lawyer, Geraldine Castle-Trudel, said he is now considering an appeal of the sentence. As it stands now, Al Mezel is eligible to apply for parole after serving two months of his sentence.
“It’s a tragedy when you have a really decent person who has been a contributing member of the community … going to jail,” said Castle-Trudel, who had earlier asked the judge to consider a conditional sentence including house arrest. “This is not a career criminal. This is a man who lost his good judgment following issues with his daughter.”
Al Mezel, the 44-year-old president of the Canadian Autoworkers Local 1688, ran unsuccessfully for a city council seat in the Alta Vista ward in 2006.
In September of 2008, he pleaded guilty to criminal harassment, admitting he repeatedly called, wrote, followed and visited the residences of his daughter in July 2007 in an attempt to get her to return home after a violent incident in which he pushed her into a flight of stairs and threatened to break her legs and kill her before smashing her computer.
The incident occurred after an argument over Eman Al Mezel’s volunteer work. Eman Al Mezel said she moved out of the home after her father arranged for her to marry a 24-year-old Syrian man.
In one e-mail to his daughter, Al Mezel tells her that they could no longer “hide the problem” from her uncles and cousins and that he could not guarantee the “safety of anyone” if she didn’t return home. “Eman, you know when everyone hear about, they will react crazy, and no one will care about police or other thing, you know your family,” read the e-mail.
In the message, he also wrote of “the Sharaf of the family,” which Eman Al Mezel later explained to police was the belief that she had shamed and dishonoured her family because she had run away from home and shed her hijab and Muslim beliefs.
Crown prosecutors had been asking for a jail sentence of between 18 and 24 months, arguing Al Mezel’s threat of an honour killing was designed to “control and dominate” his daughter.
Al Mezel was trying to deny his daughter “every basic freedom as to how she could live her life,” assistant Crown attorney James Cavanagh argued, the result of an “underlying notion of patriarchal dominance” based on a “perverted and archaic belief in family honour.”

Tomorrow evening the citizens of Montreal will be treated to a spectacle of Islamist double-talk that will leave them dazzled. Tariq Ramadan will be speaking to a gathering at the University of Montreal.This time the voice of Islamism will not be the regular run-of-the-mill shrieks by sheikhs, but delivered by a man with a mellow disarming smile. The guttural accent we have come to associate with angry mullahs of the Middle East will be replaced by milky English delivered with a French accent.
But make no mistake. The message of Tariq Ramadan will remain the same. The crudeness will be replaced by sophistication; the clumsiness by finesse. And Canadians, hungry for some sense of movement towards moderation in the world of Islam, will most probably lap it all up.
So who is Tariq Ramadan?
My first encounter with him was in a TVO discussion about Sharia Law in Canada in 2005.
I had heard Tariq Ramadan had spoken against the idea of introducing Sharia Law in Canada. I was excited. The grandson of the founder of the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt would have the maturity and understanding to take a brave stand when the rest of the Islamist establishment was hell-bent on making sure sharia law found a foothold in North America.
However, my hopes were dashed when the live show went on air. Tariq Ramadan made it very clear. He was not opposed to sharia law coming to Canada; he just didn’t think it was the right time to introduce it. In his words, Muslims were displaying a “lack of creativity”. He suggested that rather than ask openly for sharia law, Islamists should have sneaked it in through the existing legal framework.
Taken aback, I was reminded of the Islamist doctrine of Taqiyaa, a dissimulation methodology employed to hide one’s true agenda, which recommends appearing harmless to one’s adversary with the objective of having them lower their guard. Continue Reading →
From the far far worse than terrorism files, another story that should raise eyebrows higher than terrorism raises alarms. Although this story is a couple of years old, it is on the world-wide-slippery-slope to sharia. like the bar in New York City being warned not to serve alcohol, (isn’t that an Arab word?) this story is an example of how all the western world will be forced incrementally to submit to Islam through the efforts of our own politically correct, our leftists at the behest of Islam. Once you accept that serving free soup is offensive to someone who chooses not to eat that soup for religious reasons, you have effectively consigned yourself to sharia law.
It was scant decades ago when what I have said above was absolutely common sense and it would have been insulting indeed to have said it, as it was so obvious, it was an affront to the intelligence of the listener.
The slippery slope of Islamic demands, bad logic and political correctness has changed the western world at a furious pace. The very concept of responsibility and consequences with choice has been replaced by victim politics.

Soup kitchen serves pork: So far have things gone in the direction of dhimmitude that for a Catholic charity in Nice, France to serve pork to the homeless in a Christmas-time vegetable soup is deemed a provocation. Dominique Lescure, head of Soulidarieta (“Solidarity” in Provençal), shouted in a heated exchange with jeering protesters outside a church, “I don’t see why I should not be able to put pork, which has always played a major role in my country’s cuisine, into a traditional soup that I want to distribute.” The free soup drew about as many protesters as poor people. Tensions ran so high that police had to divide the two groups and the deputy mayor of Nice, Noel Ayraud, showed up. He sagely noted that he could do nothing to stop the proceedings: “Serving soup with pork is not a crime.” (Not yet, anyway.) Protesters denounced the group as racists, with a left-wing militant named Teresa Mafeis barely holding back tears of anger: “This pork-based soup kitchen is pure discrimination. It’s an in-your-face way of telling people who don’t eat pork, you can stay in your cardboard boxes and starve. After the holidays, we’re going to set up our own soup kitchen, and there will be shorba [Arabic, “soup”] for everyone.” A Muslim woman raised the ante by shouting, “Our fathers are Muslims, and they fought for France with honor and loyalty.” (December 23, 2005) Jan. 25, 2006 update: One could not make this up. I quote the BBC:
Identity Soup, as it has been dubbed by its chefs, was banned in Strasbourg this month after officials ruled it could lead to public disorder. “Schemes with racial subtexts must be denounced,” Strasbourg’s mayor Fabienne Keller said. Although no ban exists in Paris, police have closed soup kitchens in the capital’s Montparnasse and Gare de l’Est train stations on administrative grounds. Volunteers were ordered to re-seal soup containers on the basis they did not have the necessary permits to distribute food. A leading French anti-racism movement has urged Interior Minister Nicolas Sarkozy to ban pork soup give-aways throughout the country. Bernadette Hatier, vice president of the Movement Against Racism and for Friendship Between Peoples, said the scheme was a ploy to drum up far-right votes ahead of 2007 presidential elections.
Feb. 28, 2006 update: The controversy continues. In Paris, more than 200 demonstrators defied a police ban to eat “pig soup” in public. Their leader, Odile Bonnivard, climbed a car and with a megaphone declared, “We are all pig eaters! We are all pig eaters!” Despite four vans filled with anti-riot police at the ready, the police did not intervene. “We’re not yet living in a land of Islam,” Bonnivard announced from atop the car. In an interview, Bonnivard explained that her organization, Identity Bloc, used smoked bacon, pigs’ ears, pigs’ feet and pigs’ tails in preparing soup for the homeless because it was inexpensive. When they realized the political significance of this ingredient, it became a focus of their work. Other groups jumped on this bandwagon, serving the soup in towns such as Strasbourg and Nice (and also in Belgium), a trend that worried the authorities, especially after the November 2005 riots. In December, Bonnivard reported, several busloads of police officers stopped her group from giving out the soup near the Montparnasse train station in Paris, citing “the discriminatory nature of the soup.” In response to Identity Bloc’s appeal, a Paris police spokesman said the appeal would be decided “on the basis of the current regulations, in particular concerning risks to public order and incitement to racial hatred.” Bonnivard sees this as part of an effort to defend European culture and identity. “Our freedom in France is being threatened. If we prefer European civilization and Christian culture, that’s our choice.”
Jan. 2, 2007 update: A judge at the administrative tribunal in Paris found no evidence that serving soupe au cochon meant discrimination against Jews and Muslims, so pork soup is back on the menu for the homeless of Paris. The police had shut down food distributions by Solidarité des Français on the grounds of xenophobia. The city’s police prefecture was ordered to pay ?1,000 in costs to SDF. SDF’s president, Roger Bonnivard, commented: “After weeks of dirty manoeuvres, intimidation, harassment, all kinds of pressure, and despite a new ban, the Paris police authorities now have to adhere to the decision. There are no legal grounds allowing anyone to ban pig soup.”
