Turkish soldiers on patrol in a Kurdish area of southeastern Turkey: Did the Turkish military use chemical weapons against the PKK?

German experts have confirmed the authenticity of photographs that purport to show PKK fighters killed by chemical weapons. The evidence puts increasing pressure on the Turkish government, which has long been suspected of using such weapons against Kurdish rebels. German politicians are demanding an investigation.

It would be difficult to exceed the horror shown in the photos, which feature burned, maimed and scorched body parts. The victims are scarcely even recognizable as human beings. Turkish-Kurdish human rights activists believe the people in the photos are eight members of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) underground movement, who are thought to have been killed in September 2009.

In March, the activists gave the photos to a German human rights delegation comprised of Turkey experts, journalists and politicians from the far-left Left Party, as SPIEGEL reported at the end of July. Now Hans Baumann, a German expert on photo forgeries has confirmed the authenticity of the photos, and a forensics report released by the Hamburg University Hospital has backed the initial suspicion, saying that it is highly probable that the eight Kurds died “due to the use of chemical substances.”

Did the Turkish army in fact use chemical weapons and, by doing so, violate the Chemical Weapons Convention it had ratified?

‘Iran to give Hizbullah weapons’

Report: Turkey will also “send weapons, rockets, guns” to Lebanon.

Talkbacks (47)

Turkey and Iran are rumored to be helping Hizbullah obtain new weapons, Italian daily Corriere Della Sera reported on Wednesday evening.

Turkish intelligence chief Hakan Fidan reportedly met with his Iranian counterpart Hossein Taeb to discuss relations between the two countries.

Sources told Corriere Della Sera that Turkey will “send sophisticated weapons, rockets and guns to Syria, that will end up in Lebanon,” where the Iranian Army will ensure the weapons are transferred to Hizbullah.

The Iranian Revolutionary Guards “will facilitate the transition, ensure safety, watch loads on the routes, and provide support to the border,” the report said.

The Iranians reportedly want to build a weapons network similar to that in the Sudan, and hope to help Hamas, as well.

The Italian newspaper reported that Western intelligence sources “view the Turkish-Iranian plot with concern, as they are obvious risks to safety.”

“The [intelligence] services in Ankara are among the best in the region,” sources told Corriere Della Sera. “They have great knowledge of the Middle East, and know how to move on the routes of illegal trafficking.”

Turkey, from Ally to Enemy

Commentary Magazine:

Traveling abroad on his first trip as president, Barack Obama tacked a visit to Turkey onto the tail end of a trip to Europe. “Some people have asked me if I chose to continue my travels to Ankara and Istanbul to send a message,” he told the Turkish Parliament. “My answer is simple: Evet [yes]. Turkey is a critical ally.” On the same visit, however, the president showed that he considered Turkey more firmly part of the Islamic world than of Europe. “I want to make sure that we end before the call to prayer, so we have about half an hour,” Obama told a town hall in Istanbul. Obama was not simply demonstrating cultural sensitivity. The fact is that Turkey has changed. Gone, and gone permanently, is secular Turkey, a unique Muslim country that straddled East and West and that even maintained a cooperative relationship with Israel. Today Turkey is an Islamic republic whose government saw fit to facilitate the May 31 flotilla raid on Israel’s blockade of Gaza. Turkey is now more aligned to Iran than to the democracies of Europe. Whereas Iran’s Islamic revolution shocked the world with its suddenness in 1979, Turkey’s Islamic revolution has been so slow and deliberate as to pass almost unnoticed. Nevertheless, the Islamic Republic of Turkey is a reality—and a danger.

As David Cameron calls for Turkey to join the EU, PETER HITCHENS on the disturbing picture of growing repression at the heart of ‘Eurabia’

From The Daily Mail

By Peter Hitchens In Istanbul
Last updated at 12:26 AM on 1st August 2010

Among the bayonet-like minarets of ancient Istanbul, an East wind is blowing. It will chill us all… says The Mail On Sunday columnist in the week David Cameron calls for Turkey to join the EU

??????

Down a glum, dark back alley in Istanbul, I found a sinister sight. In a workshop two stern and bearded men were bent over sheets and patches of very black cloth, their sewing-machines whirring urgently.

I was plainly unwelcome and they objected to the very idea of being photographed. I quickly saw why. They were making dark robes and masks for women to wear. They looked to me as if they longed for the day when every woman in sight was clad in their workmanship.

Peter Hitchens walks among the robed women in FaithCovered way: Peter Hitchens walks among the robed women in Faith

They knew the women would wear them, because one day, not far off, they would have to. These robes would be, literally, a ‘must-have’ for the women of Turkey.

Those who think of Turkey as a relaxed holiday destination, or as a Westernised Nato member more or less ‘on our side’ need to revise their view.

And that very much includes our Prime Minister, David Cameron, who last week joined in the fashionable chorus urging Turkish membership of the European Union. Mr Cameron plainly hasn’t been properly briefed.

Leave aside the fact that such a step would allow millions of Turks to live and work in Britain, and give us  –  as EU members  –  a common border with Syria and Iraq. Mr Cameron really ought to realise that the new Islamist Turkey he so ignorantly praises is much more interested in making friends with Iran than it is in joining the EU. And it is becoming less free and less democratic by the day.

I would say there is a strong chance that we will soon lose Turkey to the Islamic world, much as we lost Iran to the ayatollahs 30 years ago. And there is not much we can do about it  –  least of all the daft scheme to include this nation in the EU. Continue Reading →

Melanie Phillips on Cameron’s pathetic dhimmitude

Here is the first part of Ms. Phillips article. I would like to add for the record, that Vlad Tepes, specifically in articles posted by and written by A. Millar, also predicted that a conservative government in England would be far worse from our point of view than labour because we have proof that the British conservative party is heavily infiltrated by Islamic groups. In any case, here is the speech Cameron gave in Turkey which we posted here some days ago, and below, the first part of Melanie’s article. Please click here for the rest of the article. It is worth the read.

Eeyore for Vlad

When David Cameron became Britain’s Prime Minister, I warned that he would turn out to be even worse than Labour on the related issues of Israel and the global threat from Islamism to Britain and the west. This was because Cameron had no knowledge of or interest in foreign affairs, and so was always likely merely to reflect the most politically expedient views he encountered – which, given the current poisonous attitude within the British establishment and intelligentsia, were likely to push him into appeasing Britain’s mortal enemies in the Islamic world and dumping on Israel, Britain’s strategic ally in that great struggle.

But even I did not foresee just how cynical Cameron would turn out to be — and how dangerous therefore to the British national interest. Today’s truly shocking and quite astoundingly stupid speech in Turkey has now laid bare the fathomless shallowness and frightening ignorance and idiocy of Britain’s new Prime Minister.

Declaring himself a fervent supporter of Turkey’s bid to join the EU, Cameron declared that those who opposed this bid fell into one of three categories: protectionists; those who believed wrongly in a ‘clash of civilisations’ between east and west, whereas in fact

Turkey can be a great unifier, because instead of choosing between East and West, Turkey has chosen both;

or

those who wilfully misunderstand Islam

because they

… see no difference between real Islam and the distorted version peddled by the extremists.

Astonishingly, Cameron thus totally ignored the fact that Turkey’s Prime Minister, Recep Erdogan, is no secular Ataturk but an Islamic extremist; and as a result Turkey is changing from a secular state and strategic ally of the west into an Islamist tyranny and a new strategic enemy of the west. Here is what Turkish political economy professor Dani Rodrik wrote recently in the Wall Street Journal (£):

I no longer recognize Turkey, the country where I was raised and spend most of my time when I am not teaching in the U.S. It wasn’t so long ago that the country seemed to be taking significant strides in the direction of human rights and democracy… But more recently, the same government has been responsible for a politics of deception, dirty tricks, fear, and intimidation… It’s clear now that Turkey is no longer the liberalizing, emerging democracy under the AKP that it was only a few years ago. It’s time the U.S. and Europe stopped treating it as such—both for their own sakes, and for the sake of the Turkish people.

Here is a fact filled no punches pulled response to the demand by the new British PM that Europe obliterate itself:

Open letter to PM David Cameron on Turks and Turkey in EU

EuropeNews 28 July 2010
By Nicolai Sennels

Dear Prime Minister David Cameron

You say you want Turkey to be member of EU. I personally think that you just want the rest of Europe to have the same problems with Muslims as you do. But that is my personal guess – here are the hard facts:

99.8 percent of the more than 77 mio. Turks living in Turkey are
Muslims (CIA World Factbook).

Please study the Quran and see what that means: It is a criminal book that forces people to do criminal things (examples here)! From September 11th 2001 (do you remember…?) to July 28th 2010 there have been 15.373 confirmed cases of murder motivated by the Quran and the inhuman example of
the Muslims prophet as described in his life story in the Hadiths
(The Religion of Peace). Do you really think we need to open our European borders to 77 mio. followers of such an ideology?

Turkish immigrants in Denmark have a crime index of 184 (meaning that their frequency of crime is almost double that of the average Danish citizen) (Kulturkløften.dk)

Do you really think we need more of that on our continent?

Did you know that “Three out of four women in all of Turkey is in average victim to physical or psychological violence at least one time per month.” (IslamInfo.dk)?

Do you want such a view on women to take root in our societies?

And did you know that “70 percent of the Turkish citizens never read books, Konda public opinion researchers said, APA reports. The research centre conducted opinion poll among 6482 respondents and found out mood of national and religious discrimination, as well as isolation is still in a high level in the country. Cameron reminded me of someone when he was speaking in Turkey

I know I already posted this speech to Vlad. But there was a certain something about his speech that reminded me of another famous speech by another British Prime Minister.

Here is my feeling about Cameron’s shocking dhimmitude. By the way, it is well worth popping over to the original video on youtube and reading the comments. Some are very good.

Cameron speaks out hard against Israel

Not content to merely demand that Turkey be admitted to the European Union, British Prime Minister Cameron spoke harsh and rather untrue words about the state of Israel today in Turkey..

British Prime Minister in Turkey takes out hard against Israel

by Jeroen Langelaar [translation by VH]

The British Prime Minister David Cameron during his visit to Ankara, the capital of Turkey, lashed out hard at Israel. He for instance compared the situation in the Gaza Strip with that of a “prison camp”. Cameron’s speech however, was full of praise for Turkey and the Turkish-British relations.

He promised to commit himself “passionately” to Turkey’s accession to the EU. Accession is according to the Conservative leader “vital to our economy, vital to our security and vital to our diplomacy.”

Cameron also took the opportunity to bash Israel. The British government leader called the actions of the Israeli Navy against a boat with Gaza activists in late May — in which nine people were killed — “unacceptable” and demanded a further exhaustive investigation into the incident.

He also compared the situation in the Gaza Strip with that of a “prison camp”. “Let me be clear that the situation in Gaza must change,” Cameron said. “Humanitarian goods and people must in both directions be able to cross the border. Gaza can not and should not be a prison camp.” He did not mention Hamas.

Cameron did call though, for both Turkey as well as Israel, not let water down the friendship between the two states, which recently had been marred.

Ron Prosor, the Israeli ambassador to Britain, finds the statements of Cameron inappropriate. “People in Gaza are prisoners of the terrorist organization Hamas,” said Prosor. “The situation there is a direct result of Hamas’ rules and priorities.”

A youtube user named sion5509 has been making some fascinating comments on the video of the German news clip on the facts surrounding the people behind the main boat used to lure the Israelis into a public relations disaster.

I asked him to send me a link from where he was getting this information and he was kind enough to do so immediately. Here is the rest of the info from that page:

Video Recordings of Statements from Mavi Marmara Crew Members about Preparations Made by IHH Operatives for the Violent Confrontation with IDF Soldiers 1

Overview

1. The videotaped statements of two Mavi Marmara crew members show that preparations for a violent confrontation with IDF forces were put in motion about two hours before the boarding began, when the Israeli Navy hailed the ship and told it to halt.

2. According to the statements, the atmosphere aboard the Mavi Marmara was tense and the crew noticed a gathering on the main deck. When they checked the upper deck they discovered that IHH operatives were cutting the ship’s railings with metal disks they had brought with them into lengths suitable to be used as clubs. The crew members said the activities worried them and that they tried to stop the operatives but were unsuccessful.

3. The following are the statements of the one of the ship’s captains and an officer. This bulletin contains the text of the statements and the videotaped interviews.

A preponderance of evidence of the non-peaceful intentions of the Gaza flotilla.

First, this investigative journalism from German TV:

Here is a machine translation (Yes have a drink before reading this) of a Swedish site which is not exactly pro-Israel but simply cannot help but notice that the boat was loaded with fascists and totalitarians from Turkey to Germany.

Another Swedish article here. from this site. This should get the point through. But now as always, the first casualty of war, is truth. I prefer to try and preserve the truth anyway so that after the war, we have a clear direction again for a while.

Mouradian: ‘Missing Hitler’s Spirit’: The Problematic Post-Flotilla Discourse in Turkey

On June 5, at a demonstration organized in Istanbul by the Islamic Saadet Party, one of the banners read, in Turkish: “Legendary leader Hitler, our patience is running out, we need your spirit.” The incident was just one of countless anti-Semitic statements, slogans, and banners made during rallies in Turkey after the Israeli attack on the flotilla of ships attempting to break the blockade on Gaza. I spoke to writers and activists from Turkey about the implications of this discourse.

Banner from protest in Turkey: “Legendary leader Adolf Hitler, our patience is running out, we need your spirit.”

“Israel’s lawless and irrational act of violence unleashed an exaggerated display of bravado on the part of the government in Turkey,” said Ayse Gunaysu, a human rights activist from Turkey. Gunaysu’s concerned about the anti-Semitic discourse used by the protesters and the way that Turkish intellectuals have been overlooking its dangerous undertones, even before the attack on the flotilla. She gives the example of a public rally on May 8, during which one speaker said, “From now on all Jews everywhere in the world and even all Jews in Turkey are our targets” (see http://fr.video.yahoo.com/watch/7462019/19667659 ).

“The protesters are not concerned about peace,” Gunaysu explained. “They are calling for more violence and more bloodshed. Because they—particularly Islamic protesters, at times backed by leftists groups as well—are not against a particular Israeli government and its particular policies, but against the existence of Israel itself.” Continue Reading →

Iran will escort ‘aid’ ships to Gaza

And so it begins. Iran and Turkey will start the process that could easily end with the annihilation of Israel. The one democratic state in the middle east that for what its worth, actually offers real human rights to Arab Muslims not to mention the women.

From Stratfor:

June 6, 2010
Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said June 6 it is ready to provide military escorts to aid ships attempting to break Israel’s blockade of the Gaza Strip, Mehr news agency reported, citing a statement by an aide to Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei within the IRGC. Ali Shirazi said Iran’s naval forces are ready to escort ships to Gaza if Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei issues the order. He also said it is Iran’s duty to defend the people of Gaza.
