(CNN) — The parents of an 8-year-old Liberian girl who was allegedly sexually assaulted by four boys in July were arrested Friday on child abuse charges, according to Arizona police.
The father, 59, and mother, 47, were arrested Friday in Phoenix on seven counts of child abuse, said police spokesman Sgt. Andy Hill. Police were waiting for them at their home after the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office issued the warrants. Continue Reading →

15 Year Old Egyptian Convert to Christianity Sends Plea to Obama
Cairo (AINA) — 15-year-old Egyptian girl Dina el-Gowhary, who converted from Islam to Christianity, has sent a plea to President Obama, complaining of mistreatment by the Egyptian Government and asking for his mediation. “Mr President Obama,” she writes, “we are a minority in Egypt. We are treated very badly. You said that the Muslim minority in America are treated very well, so why are we not treated here likewise? We are imprisoned in our own home because Muslim clerics called for the murder of my father, and now the Government has set for us a new prison, we are imprisoned in our own country.”
The handwritten Arabic letter, posted on Coptic websites, also says “I am 15 years old but I still have hope that my message will reach President Obama.”
The el-Gowhary family was barred from leaving Egypt on September 17, 2009 without any legal reason. They were told, however, that the order came from a higher authority (AINA 9-26-200).
Dina, is the daughter of 57-year-old Maher el-Gowhary, also known by his Christian name Peter Athanasius, who embraced Christianity secretly 35 years ago. In August, 2008 he filed the second ever lawsuit of a Muslim-born Egyptian against the Egyptian Government to officially alter his identification documents to reflect his new Christian identity. He lost the case in June 2009. According to the Court ruling, the religious conversion of a Muslim is against Islamic Sharia law and poses a threat to the “Public Order” in Egypt. (AINA 6-16-2009). He appealed the ruling.
Maher and Dina have been living in hiding ever since he filed his lawsuit because Muslim clerics have called him an apostate and several Fatwas (religious edicts), for ‘spilling his blood’ have been issued. He frequently changes where he lives to evade being killed, and friends supply him with food. “We cannot sleep, eat or go out in the street,” he said. He believes that the authorities are putting pressure on them (he and Dina) to re-convert back to Islam, “but this will never happen, even if we have to live on the streets. We love our Lord Jesus, and we have left Islam for good.”
The International Humanist and Ethical Union (IHEU), in conjunction with Copts United, presented el-Gowhary’s case to the UN Human Rights Council in its 12th session in September 2009.
Maher visited the Canadian Embassy to see if he can get religious asylum. He found an Egyptian receptionist there in her Hijab, so he left. The Egyptian staff at Western embassies in Cairo are under the control of State Security.
Maher lashed out today at the Egyptian Government, asking for his Egyptian nationality to be taken away if it is the reason why the Government is adamant on depriving him of his basic rights as an Egyptian citizen. He told Copts United “if the Egyptian nationality is the cause of my imprisonment within my home and being unable to move, then I do not want it.” He added that it would be more honorable for him to hold the nationality of any other country rather than the Egyptian one “Where I live together with my daughter suffering imprisonment within the walls of my apartment and without any freedom.”

Nov. 18 (Bloomberg) — A Somali woman was stoned to death after being found guilty of adultery in breach of Islamic law.
Halima Ibrahim Abdirahman, a 29-year-old married woman, was executed after confessing to having had sex with a 20-year-old unmarried man, Sheikh Ibrahim Sheikh Abdirahman, the judge at her trial, told spectators at the execution yesterday at Eelboon in southern Somalia. Sheikh Ibrahim’s remarks were broadcast on Radio Hornafrik and monitored in the capital, Mogadishu.
The 20-year-old man, who was unidentified, was sentenced to 100 lashes, Sheikh Ibrahim said.
Most of southern and central Somalia is controlled by Islamist groups including al-Shabaab and Hisb-ul-Islam, following a two-year battle with the country’s Western-backed government. The Islamists are proponents of Shariah law, which operates under a code of Islamic principles first established in the Arab world by the prophet Muhammad in the seventh century.
In November 2008, a 13-year-old rape victim was stoned to death after being accused of adultery, according to Amnesty International, the London-based human rights group.

Stop the rapes now 
13.11.09: The extent of rape in Sweden is so monstrous that the situation may fairly be characterized as epidemic. In the European context, Sweden is in a category all its own, with 5,446 reported rapes in 2008 – a figure that places Sweden far ahead of every other country in Europe in the incidence of rape in proportion to the total population. Rapes are twice as common in Sweden as in Great Britain, which takes second place. Unless we at HRS have missed something, Social Democratic leader Mona Sahlin and company have not commented on this distinction – probably because men with non-Western backgrounds are heavily overrepresented among the perpetrators. On September 9, a group of individuals who have had enough of this silence on the part of Swedish media and politicians launched the website Stoppavåldtäkterna.nu (”stop the rapes”).

It’s almost incomprehensible that what’s happening in our neighboring country can be taking place without causing a public outcry. Fifteen girls or women are raped every day. Yes, you read that correctly – fifteen every day! And that’s just the ones that are reported. This figure is thought to represent about 90-95 percent of committed rapes. Many of the victims are children. And many of the rapes are gang rapes.
Swedish politicians and media have paid very little attention to this ghastly fact, and one has to wonder if this means that rape has become such an everyday occurrence that the Swedish psyche has come to accept it as a normal part of life. Violent rapes and gang rapes of children no longer count as ”news.”
Now an independent citizens’ group wants to put an end to this abdication of responsibility by Swedish officials. Four days ago they launched the website Stoppavåldtäkterna.nu. Their purpose, according to their press release, is to try to prevent rapes by means of an information campaign and self-defense courses.
The campaign’s primary aim is to inform as many Swedes as possible about this often taboo subject, since it is impossible to fix a problem that no one wants to acknowledge.
But the campaign is also intended to provide information to women and parents for purely preventative purposes. We intend to increase their awareness of risk and their capacity for self-defense, as well as to help them deal with the aftermath of rape, by supplying tips, advice, and useful information.
Finally, one objective of the campaign is to put pressure on decision-makers – not only politicians but also the mass media, which inevitably wield great responsibility for the safety of citizens in this country, because they control social debates and decide which questions are considered worthy of discussion.
The objective is to reduce the number of rapes by every possible means.
The number of rapes in our neighboring country has risen dramatically from year to year, from 350 reported rapes in 1950 to 800 in 1975, after which the numbers exploded beginning in the 1990s – a development which coincided with the leap in non-Western immigration. Until that time, gang rapes were a virtually unknown phenomenon in Sweden (and Norway). In 2006, however, a dizzying 18 percent of all reported rapes were gang rapes.
The total number of rapes (including violent rapes) reported to the police rose gradually from barely 350 in 1950 to 800 in 1975. After that, the rate climbed steeply to over 2,100 in 1993. Since then, the curve has become increasingly steep with every passing year. In 2003 the number of reported rapes exceeded 2,500 for the first time. After the new sex crimes law went into effect in April 2005, the figure jumped from about 3,800 to just over 4,700 in 2007. Since then, the increase has continued at an undiminished pace, and in 2008 the number of rapes reported was 5450.
The number of rapes of children under 15 years old climbed from just over 700 in 1975 to about 1,400 in 2008 – an increase of 200%.
The number of reported outdoor rapes rose by slightly over 300 percent between 1975 and 2007. The largest increase is in the number of reported indoor rapes, which has risen by almost 650 percent since 1975.
The number of gang rapes has risen dramatically during the last decades – jumping by at least 377% during the years 1995 to 2006.
Unlike Swedish authorities and many researchers, the founders of the new website will not sweep the perpetrators’ origins under the carpet. According to official Swedish figures, foreign-born people are accused of rape five times more often than men with Swedish-born parents. Finns, Americans, and all other rapists of Western origin are included in this figure. Sweden clearly prefers not to acknowledge publicly what is obviously the case: namely, that men with non-Western backgrounds are highly overrepresented in the rape statistics, and especially in the statistics on assault rapes and gang rapes. The purpose of releasing such information would not be to stigmatize but to prevent.
Certain ethnic groups commit a disproportionate number of sexual offenses. We do not intend to speculate why this is the case; we will leave theories about cultural or biological backgrounds to others. We don’t want, however, to conceal facts that may prevent rapes. Likewise, we do not intend to deny important information to potential rape victims concerning potential rapists. We are not governed by political considerations, as is the BRÅ [Brottsförebyggande rådet, i.e. Council for Crime Prevention], nor do we need to conceal or distort the facts and statistics so that they will fit into a politically correct template. On the other hand, we are acting in accordance with the law, and are thus striving not to look down on or in any other sense disparage various ethnic groups in a way that would violate the law on Persecution of Ethnic Groups. The head of Ottawa’s taxi union has been sentenced to 12 months in jail for threatening his daughter with an honour crime if she did not obey his wishes.
Ontario Superior Court Justice Lynn Ratushny said the sentence was the minimum penalty that Yusef Al Mezel could serve to address the “strong need” for denunciation and general deterrence after he implied that the actions of his 23-year-old daughter would be met with violence because she had shamed and dishonoured her family.
While the judge recognized Al Mezel was a respected community leader whose threats would not likely result in an honour killing, she said they do remain as threats of some possible form of violence in the name of honour that required significant condemnation.
“They invoke a seriously dangerous belief system that can and has led to violence against women,” said Ratushny.
“Mr. Al Mezel has threatened his daughter with serious violence and has caused her to fear for her safety in the name of honour. He has committed the crime of harassment against her in the name of honour,” she said.
“He has professed no adherence to any personal belief in there being any justification for honour killings, however he has committed another form of honour crime by deliberately and repeatedly invoking the concept of violence against her in the name of honour,” said Ratushny.
Al Mezel’s lawyer, Geraldine Castle-Trudel, said he is now considering an appeal of the sentence. As it stands now, Al Mezel is eligible to apply for parole after serving two months of his sentence.
“It’s a tragedy when you have a really decent person who has been a contributing member of the community … going to jail,” said Castle-Trudel, who had earlier asked the judge to consider a conditional sentence including house arrest. “This is not a career criminal. This is a man who lost his good judgment following issues with his daughter.”
Al Mezel, the 44-year-old president of the Canadian Autoworkers Local 1688, ran unsuccessfully for a city council seat in the Alta Vista ward in 2006.
In September of 2008, he pleaded guilty to criminal harassment, admitting he repeatedly called, wrote, followed and visited the residences of his daughter in July 2007 in an attempt to get her to return home after a violent incident in which he pushed her into a flight of stairs and threatened to break her legs and kill her before smashing her computer.
The incident occurred after an argument over Eman Al Mezel’s volunteer work. Eman Al Mezel said she moved out of the home after her father arranged for her to marry a 24-year-old Syrian man.
In one e-mail to his daughter, Al Mezel tells her that they could no longer “hide the problem” from her uncles and cousins and that he could not guarantee the “safety of anyone” if she didn’t return home. “Eman, you know when everyone hear about, they will react crazy, and no one will care about police or other thing, you know your family,” read the e-mail.
In the message, he also wrote of “the Sharaf of the family,” which Eman Al Mezel later explained to police was the belief that she had shamed and dishonoured her family because she had run away from home and shed her hijab and Muslim beliefs.
Crown prosecutors had been asking for a jail sentence of between 18 and 24 months, arguing Al Mezel’s threat of an honour killing was designed to “control and dominate” his daughter.
Al Mezel was trying to deny his daughter “every basic freedom as to how she could live her life,” assistant Crown attorney James Cavanagh argued, the result of an “underlying notion of patriarchal dominance” based on a “perverted and archaic belief in family honour.”

Why do we permit the translation as ‘marriage’?
As I have posted here before, the issue in front of western courts these days should not be one of polygamy, but of Muslim marriage itself.
If a group of people want to live together in any fashion at all, who are we to stop it? How do we stop it? Cameras under the bed sheets? Clearly there are legal implications to marriage that need to be examined, but well before we get there, the question needs to be asked, ‘Is marriage in Islam in any way related to the western concept of an adult man and adult women voluntarily entering into a contract where all parties are aware of, and consenting to, the arrangement and have more or less equal recourse to the law and an exit strategy.
Clearly in Islam, this is not remotely the case. Women under sharia law are property. All laws dealing with contractual arrangements having to do with women are property deals. Women may in some cases actually choose their own destiny in some Islamic nations but that would be a privilege. Very often, women are forced into marriage for money, or to settle a debt for a father etc. As these two excellent videos illustrate, the way women are viewed in islam simply has no parallel in western societies and the sharia arrangement where a woman is transferred from one man to another should under no circumstances be permitted to be translated as ‘marriage’.
These should be looked at, and treated in the west as we would slavery. pedophilia, prostitution of children, forced sex slavery etc. An examination of this is urgent. As it is now in western nations distinctly different legal standards are being applied to muslims and non muslims, a giant step towards the implementation of a two tier system making sharia, or muslim law, dominant and the rights of the dhimmi. or non muslims resident, as secondary.

Glendale ‘honor killing’ victim, 20, just wanted to be normal
Noor Faleh Almaleki just wanted to be a normal American woman.
The striking 20-year-old from Iraq, who’d lived in the Valley since she was a young girl, wanted her hair and makeup to be perfect, her clothes to be fashionable. She wanted a job, a degree and a husband of her choosing.
On her Facebook page, Noor posted photos of herself and wrote: “I am spectacular,” punctuated with a smiley face emoticon. But Noor’s father had a much different ideal for his daughter: a life in strict line with traditional Iraqi culture.
He made her quit her fast-food restaurant job and arranged for her to marry a man in Iraq she didn’t know, according to friends and family.
Finally, police say, 48-year-old Faleh Hassan Almaleki put an end to what he perceived to be his daughter’s rebellious life. Using his Jeep as a weapon, he allegedly ran her down in a parking lot Oct. 20 in what prosecutors are calling an “honor killing” to cleanse what he considered were indiscretions to the family’s honor.
Noor underwent spinal surgery and was in a coma until her death on Monday. Another woman struck by the Jeep, the mother of Noor’s boyfriend, was expected to survive. Marcella Andregg, a friend for seven years, described Noor as independent, but far from rebellious and always respectful of her parents. She said Noor just wanted to live her own life, but that her father wouldn’t let her.
“His whole persona was very controlling, very strong-minded in the ways he wanted it for her,” Andregg said. “He talked down to her very much, made sure she knew she wasn’t good enough and brought a lot of dishonor to the family.”
Meanwhile, she said, Noor “just wanted to be a normal teenager,” and later, wanted to finish college, marry the man she loved, and have children. Continue Reading →

Mike Tellef said late Thursday.
Jim Joyner, a spokesman for the U.S. Marshals Service in Atlanta, said Almaleki was arrested Thursday when he arrived at Atlanta’s airport

Police believe Almaleki ran over his daughter, Noor Almaleki, 20, and Amal Edan Khalaf, 43, in a Peoria parking lot on Oct. 20 because he felt his daughter had disrespected the family.
Khalaf is reportedly the mother of Noor’s boyfriend.
The two women were still in the hospital, with Noor Almaleki in “life-threatening” condition and Khalaf’s condition improving, when police updated their status earlier this week.
Faleh Almaleki had evaded police for more than a week since running over the two women.
Noor’s brother, Peter-Ali Almaleki, said their father called home late last week to check on his daughter’s condition but his wife hung up on him.

The 2009 report by the World Economic Forum has listed predominantly Islamic nations in the bottom of their annual Global Gender Gap (GGG) Index. This included such major nations as Pakistan (ranked 132 out of 134), Saudi Arabia (ranked 130 out of 134), Iran (ranked 128 out of 134), Egypt (ranked 126 out of 134), and Turkey (ranked 129 out 134). Yemen, which is 99 percent Islamic, was the bottom ranked nation as 134 on the Global Gender Gap Index. The only nation not predominantly Islamic in the bottom of the Global Gender Gap index was Benin.
In addition, the 2009 World Economic Forum Global Gender Gap Index report does not include rankings on a number of significant and predominantly Islamic nations where women are oppressed. Somalia (population of nearly 10 million) was not included in the index. Endless numbers of reports of the stonings and Islamic supremacist abuses of women have been reported in Somalia in the past year, including the stoning to death of a 13 year old girl based on “Sharia law” in October 2008. Sudan (population of nearly 41 million) was also not included in the World Economic Forum Global Gender Gap Index. Among other nations, Afghanistan (29 million) and Iraq (29 million) are also not included in this Global Gender Gap Index. Despite a history of domestic terrorism, from Air India to the Toronto 18, Canada has a “serious blind spot” acknowledging that violent extremism imperils our national security, says the new head of the Canadian Security Intelligence Service.
In his first public speech since becoming Canada’s spy master this summer, Richard B. Fadden wasted no time Thursday railing against those he believes ignore, minimize and even applaud terrorism and the people caught up in it, while portraying government efforts to combat extremism as assaults on liberty.
“Almost any attempt to fight terrorism by the government is portrayed as an overreaction or an assault on liberty. Non-Muslims in Malaysia fear that Islamism is seeping into the moderate nation’s fabric.(CNN) — Authorities in Malaysia have seized more than 20,000 Bibles in recent months because they refer to God as “Allah,” Christian leaders said Thursday.
The seizures have fed fears among minority groups, which see signs of encroaching Islamic fundamentalism in the predominantly Muslim but multi-racial country.
“There is a growing sense of Islamic assertion, yes,” said the Rev. Hermen Shastri, general-secretary of the Council of Churches of Malaysia. “There is some concern.”
The Bibles were written in the country’s official language, Malay — in which the word for God is “Allah,” as it is in Arabic.
However, Malaysia’s government says the word is exclusive to Islam.
Its use in Christian publications is likely to confuse Muslims and draw them to Christianity, the government says. So it has banned use of the word in Christian literature.
“Malay has borrowed from Arabic, just as it has from Sanskrit and Portuguese,” Shastri said. “We have maintained the community has the right to use the word.
“But I think this has ignited a cause in the Muslim communities, who are interpreting it as a siege on Islamic beliefs.”
A Home Ministry official directed requests for comment to the ministry’s Publications and Quran Text Control Department, which enforces the ban. An employee there redirected calls to a spokeswoman, who in turn asked CNN to call the Home Ministry back. Calls to other departments were similarly redirected.
A Roman Catholic weekly newspaper, The Herald, is challenging the ban in court after the government threatened to revoke its license for using the word in its Malay edition. Hearings on the case have gone on for two years.
“We quote it as it is. We cannot change the text of the Scripture,” Herald editor Father Lawrence Andrew told CNN last year. “I cannot be the editor of the Bible.”
Among the Bibles confiscated were Malay-language ones that the Bible Society of Malaysia said it had imported from Indonesia. About 10,000 others also were confiscated from Gideons International, which places free copies in hotel rooms and other places.
The Malaysian constitution provides for freedom of religion. The country has a dual-track justice system, in which Islamic courts operate alongside civil ones.
Rulings by the Islamic, or sharia, courts are directed toward the country’s Muslim, who make up 60 percent of the population. But they worry non-Muslims who see them as Islamism seeping into the moderate nation’s fabric.
In November, the National Fatwa Council — the country’s top Islamic body — banned Muslims from practicing yoga. It said elements of Hinduism in yoga can corrupt Muslims.
The council also bans short hair and boyish behavior for girls, saying they encourage homosexuality.
In northern Malaysia’s Kelantan state, authorities have forbidden bright lipstick and high-heeled shoes, saying the bans will safeguard Muslim women’s morals and dignity, as well as thwart rape.
And last month, an Islamic court judge in the eastern state of Pahang upheld a verdict to cane a Muslim woman for drinking beer in public.
The country has been mired in inter-faith disputes as well in recent months. In those cases, many non-Muslims complain that the civil courts generally cede control to Islamic courts.
Muslims cannot convert to other religions without the permission of the Islamic courts, which rarely approve such requests.
In relationships in which a Muslim parent has converted children to Islam over the objection of a non-Muslim parent, the sharia courts usually have upheld the conversions.
And earlier this year, a Sikh family lost a court battle to cremate a relative after officials said the man had converted to Islam years before his death, though the family said he hadn’t.
