NOTE: CAIR is the pseudo Islamic “human rights” group in the US, that has been at the forefront of disseminating false information about Islam, (religion of peace) as well as defending jihadi perps caught in the act of planning terrorism etc. etc.. It is also defending the Islamic fundamentalist parents of Rifqa Bary, the 17 year old who took off for Florida because she feared for her life after converting to Christianity.

It’s going to be very interesting to see who gets picked up either on civil or criminal charges!

In the wake of the sensational ACORN video sting operation by two young investigators, an even more daring, dangerous and devastating undercover investigation – this one infiltrating the nation’s most aggressive Muslim “civil rights” organization for six months – has resulted in stunning revelations about the supposedly “moderate” group, backed up by 12,000 pages of documents and 300 hours of covert video obtained during the secret op.

As revealed in a new book detailing the operation and its findings, the Washington, D.C.-based Council on American-Islamic Relations, or CAIR, is not the beneficent Muslim civil-rights group it claims to be. With evidence from “Muslim Mafia” in hand, U.S. Rep. Sue Myrick, R-N.C., co-founder of the Congressional Anti-Terror Caucus, and other members of Congress – including Reps. John Shadegg, R-Ariz., and Paul Broun, R-Ga. – plan to hold a press conference today in Washington calling for an investigation and an end to political lobbying by front groups such as CAIR.

“Now we have proof – from the secret documents that this investigative team has uncovered, coupled with the ones recently declassified by the FBI – that [radical Islamists] agents living among us have a plan in place, and they are successfully carrying out that subversive plan,” Myrick writes in the foreword to “Muslim Mafia.”

American Apostates from Islam Affirm Their Freedom

Nonie Darwish is a well-known former Muslim. She was born in Egypt, converted out of Islam, and now lives in the United States. But even here — in a country where freedom of speech and freedom of religion are constitutionally guaranteed — she faces intimidation and harassment for daring to leave Islam.

As Phyllis Chesler wrote yesterday:

Nonie DarwishNonie Darwish, the warmest, sanest, least prejudiced Egyptian whom I know, has both been attacked and has not been defended by the administrative elite at the Whittier College Law School where she is scheduled to speak later today. According to Steven Emerson, the Muslim Student Association on campus defamed Darwish and tried to stop or at least delay her presentation.

Not surprising. They specialize in such demonization and censorship campaigns. Darwish pleads the case of Muslim women whose human rights are seriously violated by shariah law. But the academic administrators at Whittier Law School have not strongly defended her right to speak, nor have they praised her work. This is unforgivable; according to Emerson, many happen to be women who are also feminists.

This is a process that has become all too familiar in recent years as courageous apostates from Islam have been abandoned by both civil libertarians and feminists. The hypocrisy of the progressive Left is now completely exposed: the human rights that they have putatively championed for all these years are not universal. When Islam walks through the door, the Left falls suddenly and mysteriously silent about the right of Muslims to choose their own destiny.

However, America’s former Muslims aren’t waiting for the approval of the Left to assert their freedom. They’ve organized a new group called Former Muslims United under the leadership of Nonie Darwish, Mohammed Asghar, Amil Imani, Wafa Sultan and Ibn Warraq:

Former Muslims United was formed in September, 2009 by a group of leading American apostates from Islam — Nonie Darwish (Director), Mohammed Asghar, Amil Imani, Wafa Sultan and Ibn Warraq — to educate the American public and policymakers about the need for Muslims to repudiate the threat from authoritative Shariah to the religious freedom and safety of former Muslims. Our national campaign for civil rights and physical safety for former Muslims was launched with the creation of a pledge for Muslim leaders to sign — “ The Muslim Pledge for Religious Freedom and Safety from Harm for Former Muslims.”

The first group of Muslim leaders were sent pledges to coincide with the date September 25, 2009.

I’ll have more to say about the Pledge below. But first, some excerpts from the group’s mission statement:

1. Develop a legal framework for and ensure the civil of American individuals and organizations to provide sanctuary for former Muslims without being subject to legal penalties or threats.
2. Call on all Muslims and their spiritual leaders to reject, publicly and without reservation or exception, all Sharia doctrine that permits or calls for punishment or discrimination against former Muslims, including intimidation and threats against person or property. This rejection of violence applies to individuals, Sharia authorities, Muslim courts or other Sharia bodies, governments, and quasi-governmental bodies.
3. Form a support group to empower and give comfort to former Muslims enabling them to stand up for their religious liberties under the US Constitution.

7. Demand Muslim leaders reject and denounce all Islamic literature which calls for death or other punishments for former Muslims.

The members of Former Muslims United are tackling the most urgent issue that can be faced by those who have chosen to leave Islam. In any country where there are significant numbers of Muslims, apostates face the risk of death at the hands of their former fellows. Islam permits — indeed, it requires — the death penalty for apostasy, as well as for other crimes such as blasphemy and adultery.

One may wish to take note, in Islam, the meaning of the term ‘Justice’ is in no way related to the western notion of the term, other than it is meant that we think it does. In Islam, Justice means all things ruled by sharia law. Justice does not mean ‘fair’ or related western terms. It simply refers to the supremacy of Islam and sharia law. When the CAIR representative used the term ‘Justice’ in the above video, this is what he meant. Some weeks ago, Canadian Council on American-Islamic Relations’ (CAIR-CAN) Executive Director Ihsaan Gardee responded to a National Post article by Columnist Barbara Kay. Following is a reaction to Mr. Gardee, from David B. Harris, Canadian lawyer and intelligence specialist. Harris was also a defiant former defendant in a failed “libel lawfare” lawsuit that Gardee’s organization launched as part of a North America-wide Islamist attempt to silence questions about the origins, activity and connections of CAIR-CAN and its affiliates. Note what Mr. Harris thinks about Gardee’s attempt to use Ms. Richelle Wiseman’s Calgary-based Centre for Faith and the Media (CFM) in defence of his Islamist organization. I’m willing to believe that Canadian Council on American-Islamic Relations’ (CAIR-CAN) Executive Director Ihsaan Gardee is capable and charming. He certainly brought some of this to bear recently, in defending his employer from its latest detractor, National Post columnist Barbara Kay (Barbara Kay, “Do Christian Canadians hate Sikhs, Muslims and Jews ? PART 2” (28 April 2009)).

Mr . Gardee was reacting to Ms. Kay’s vigorous, sharia-free flailing of Canada’s Maclean’s magazine. It seems that the magazine made the mistake of briefly quoting him in its recent report on religious and racial attitudes in Canada. Kay was appalled that any mainstream publication could overlook the evidence, and take a representative of CAIR-CAN seriously as an arbiter of moderation and sweet reason in religious or public-policy matters.

To be fair, the beleaguered Mr. Gardee put up a pretty skilled defence. As this tale shows, however, Gardee seems destined forever to remind us of H.L. Mencken’s description of US President Grover Cleveland : “a good man in a bad trade.”

How else to describe someone condemned to churn out endless streams of the improbable, the unbelievable and the painfully ridiculous ? I think, of course, of the periodic rote denials that Mr. Gardee is forced to make on behalf of his Islamist – that is to say, hardline Islamic – organization.

For those unfamiliar with the tired ritual, it can be summarized briefly. Step1 : based on careful research, a conscientious writer or other commentator tells some hard truths about CAIR-CAN, its background and connections. Step 2 : a CAIR-CAN operative accuses the truth-teller of “mudslinging”, “throwing around fabricated information,” propagating “silly and inaccurate smears.” Mr. Gardee’s terminology with Kay, come to think of it.

Step 2 incorporates certain familiar features. The CAIR-CAN operative must respond with denials, yet avoid self-indicting specifics. CAIR-CAN’s PR rep must combine a personable, non-threatening style, with a level of righteous indignation deemed appropriate to the challenge – and consistent with the appearance of a credible organization. Indeed, at its best, a CAIR-CAN Step 2 Indignation Initiative (CCS2II) must position the organization as a victim of some unspecified and largely-imaginary version of anti-Muslim prejudice, a creative and calculated means of silencing responsible critics. In its neoclassical form, CAIR-CAN Step 2 Indignation rises to the level of pronouncing those who do their homework, “McCarthyites” and, needless to say, “Islamophobes”. I mention all this merely as a public service, so that you will not need to spend time reading future CAIR-CAN denials.

For those who have read the latest denial, “Let’s,” as Mr. Gardee has so aptly put it, “set the story straight.”

THE USUAL DENIAL

Mr. Gardee’s script requires that we first be told that CAIR-CAN is a “grassroots civil liberties organization.” This is true only if a Canadian lobby can properly be called “grassroots” when it is the product of the Saudi-funded radical fundamentalist US-based Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), a key element in what is commonly known as the Wahabbi Lobby – although the appellation doesn’t give appropriate credit to its equally-radical Muslim Brotherhood flavour. Welcome to Obama’s America, where Islam represents the favored religion and a vital political force.

The transformed land of liberty was very much on view at the 14th Annual Arab International Festival in Dearborn, Michigan from June 19 to 21. Most readers, in this day of two-bit journalism and bughouse blogs, might dismiss the following account as phantasmagorical, save for the fact that friends of the Last Crusade has managed to capture the gala event on video. Click, watch, and scream.

The event was sponsored not only by the Ford Motor Company (we thought they were bankrupt) and the American Arab Chamber of Commerce but also (get this) by the FBI, the CIA and various representatives of the U.S. Military.

The 250,000 people who attended the event munched on rolled pita sandwiches, shawarma, tabouli, hummus and baklava. The men, in many cases, wore throbs and ghutras; the women were draped in black burqas, or western jeans, accented with veils.

The ribbon cutting, which got the festival underway, was conducted by State Senator Irma Clarke Coleman, Wayne County Executive Robert Ficano, and Dearborn Mayor Jack O’Reilly.

Representatives from the all branches of the U.S. Military – – Army, Navy, Marines, and Air Force Armed forces – – promised American citizenship to every Mid-Eastern immigrant willing to enlist – – as long as they were Muslims – – Christians and Jews were excluded from the offer. G.I. Issued uniforms were emblazoned with Arabic script in case prospective recruits could not understand terms such as “United States Army”.

The FBI, not to be undone, set up a booth to recruit Muslim agents, and the CIA conducted raffles in order to entice young Islamists to enter the cloistered world of U.S. intelligence.

The few Christians, who dared to venture forth on Warren Street to attend the festive gathering, were prohibited by law from distributing religious tracts and materials.

The order, which prohibited religious freedom to the Christians, came from U.S. District Judge Nancy Edmonds.

While there never has been a disruption of the public peace by Christians during the annual event, the Dearborn police kept vigilant watch for any Baptist or Pentecostal intrepid enough to violate the ruling to suppress their religious freedom.

No such stout-hearted soul appeared with tract, rosary, or Bible in hand, except for an inspired group of young Arab Christians and ex-Muslims. Rick Warren’s disciples and the Joel Osteen militia were conspicuously absent as innocent Christians were set upon with violence and threats.

Deafening silence from Muslim groups in west: Tarek Fatah

Now that the Supreme Leader of Iran, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has warned ordinary Iranians not to stage street protests, the risks these demonstrators face at the hands of the state security machinery and the Islamist Basiji militia, cannot be underestimated. However, as the courageous Iranian people defy state oppression to demand democracy and freedom, the Islamic organizations of North America have been conspicuous by their silence.

There has been not one word of support for the Iranian people from CAIR (Council on American-Islamic Relations), ISNA (Islamic Society of North America), MSA (Muslim Society of America) and MPAC (Muslim Public Affairs Council).

The only exception has been the Muslim Canadian Congress (MCC) that issued an early statement denouncing the rigging of the elections and demanded that so-called supreme leader Ayatollah Khamenei step down. Continue Reading →

Islamic Terror Attacks on American Soil

We recently got taken to the mat by a polite, young Muslim living in the U.K. who took issue with our oft-repeated statement that no Muslim-American lost their life to vigilante violence following 9/11.  She provided us a list of six or seven candidates and, after whittling out the ones where the killer was unknown or in cases with mitigating circumstances such as “victim was sleeping with killer’s ex-girlfriend” (we’re not making that up), we reached a shocking conclusion:

We were wrong.

There is one seemingly unambiguous case that occurred in Dallas, Texas where Waqar Hasan, a Muslim convenience storeowner, was gunned down by Mark Anthony Stroman four days after the 9/11 attacks.  Stroman claimed to have been motivated by anger from watching the towers fall.  He is not exactly your average American, however, even apart from the shooting.  For one thing, he is a white supremacist who carried a felony criminal record at the time of the attack.  He also went on to shoot two more people in the weeks that followed.

Although news of the crime was overshadowed in the aftermath of the 9/11 attacks, Stroman’s name brings up more Google hits than some of the 9/11 hijackers – and only a handful of World Trade Center victims are mentioned more on the Web than Waqar Hasan.  (Interestingly, the name of a Sikh, killed by someone mistaking him for an Arab actually brings up far more hits than either Hasan or any murdered WTC victim with the exception of the firehouse chaplain).  Also, unlike the terrorists walking free in Muslim countries, an American jury sentenced Mark Stroman to death (which we wholeheartedly support).

Nevertheless, we acknowledge that our Muslim friend is correct and that there was at least one Muslim killed in an anti-Arab hate crime in the U.S. following the anti-American hate crime on 9/11.  For anyone keeping score:

People killed by radical Muslims on 9/11: 2,996
Muslim-Americans killed in revenge (…by white power felons): 1

Of course, 9/11 was neither the first nor the last time that Muslims have killed Americans on U.S. soil in terror attacks.  In fact, since that day, Muslims have killed at least 37 people in 28 separate acts of terrorism in the United States (by the standards that Muslim-American groups set for hate crimes).  Perhaps more importantly, there have been quite a few planned mass murders of Americans by Islamic terrorists that were thwarted by the FBI, law enforcement and overseas intelligence operations both before and after 9/11.

By contrast, Muslim-Americans do not appear to be in any special danger from murderous (non-Muslim) religious fanatics.  Identity groups, such as CAIR, whine incessantly about relatively trivial incidents while turning a blind eye to the horrible violence that is meted out daily in the name of their religion.  This distasteful petulance offers insight not only into the character of Islam, but also the impressive religious tolerance that Americans manage to maintain.

CAIR-CAN board member seeks to pillory Tarek Fatah

Tarek Fatah, a well known Canadian Muslim and one who writes frequently to many Canadian newspapers on the dangers and issues of more conservative or orthodox Islam has found himself the target of what may be a smear campaign against him by a member both of the Canadian legal community as well as a former CAIRCAN associate. CAIR of course in the US recently was outed as a terrorist sympathetic group and probably more than mere sympathy as the FBI has now officially and publicly cut all ties with them and one can only wonder if the Canadian branch, CAIRCAN is similar in agenda.

Faisal Kutty, LL.B., LL.M. KSM Law, also was a central figure in attempting to have sharia law adopted in Ontario for civil and family matters has asked his network to start a campaign against Tarek speaking to DFAIT and accusing him of hatred to Muslims.

On the surface its pretty harmless. But Tarek is not anti Muslim. He IS a Muslim. He merely isn’t a jihadi nor does he advocate any form of extremism. To one who wishes to implement sharia in Canada he would likely be seen as an apostate. It’s also noteworthy that Mr. Kutty is a former Vice-Chair of CAIR-CAN, and seems to hold a position at York University Law school as this link in the above email indicates.
Was Mr. Kutty speaking on behalf of York Law school when he asked for a writing campaign against Tarak Fatah? If so, this would be a serious matter for the faculty of Osgoode Law school I would hope and a more serious one if it was not.
Mr. Kutty also is a founding member of the Canadian Muslim Civil Liberties Association which made joint representations at the recent Iacobucci Internal Inquiry, with CAIR-CAN and CAF. Readers of Vlad may remember the CAF (Canadian Arab Legue) as the people who recently called Canadian MP Jason Kenney a ‘professional whore”.
Both CAF and CAIRCAN have pretty clear implications as Islamists with an ‘unCanadian’ Agenda and not people I would want to be along side with, while fighting a court case  against the Canadian government on matters of who may or may not be admitted to Canada or how suspects in terrorism may be treated.

As Commissioner of the Inquiry, Mr. Iacobucci’s mandate will be to determine:

  1. whether the detention of Abdullah Almalki, Ahmad Abou-Elmaati and Muayyed Nureddin in Syria or Egypt resulted, directly or indirectly, from actions of Canadian officials, particularly in relation to the sharing of information with foreign countries and, if so, whether those actions were deficient in the circumstances,
  2. whether there were deficiencies in the actions taken by Canadian officials to provide consular services to Abdullah Almalki, Ahmad Abou-Elmaati and Muayyed Nureddin while they were detained in Syria or Egypt, and
  3. whether any mistreatment of Abdullah Almalki, Ahmad Abou-Elmaati and Muayyed Nureddin in Syria or Egypt resulted, directly or indirectly, from actions of Canadian officials, particularly in relation to the sharing of information with foreign countries and, if so, whether those actions were deficient in the circumstances;

This Inquiry is expected to deal with sensitive national security matters. While public hearings are possible, it is likely the Inquiry will be carried out largely in private.

The report resulting from this Inquiry is now to be submitted on or before October 20, 2008.

The Canadian Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-CAN), the Canadian chapter of the controversial Washington, DC-based Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), has recently issued a press release (attached) purporting to report the outcome of a defamation lawsuit in which I was a defendant. Readers are cautioned that the CAIR-CAN document is misleading in certain important respects.

CAIR-CAN and its then-Chair, Dr. Sheema Khan, sued Ottawa radio station CFRA and me for remarks I made as a regular CFRA national-security guest during an interview with host Mr. Steve Madely on 1 April 2004. At all relevant times, Mr. Riad Saloojee was Executive Director of CAIR-CAN. Dr. Khan and Mr. Saloojee have lately been replaced in their positions by Mr. Abdul-Basit Khan and Mr. Karl Nickner, respectively.

I believe implicitly in the accuracy of all that I said on the radio program. I have withdrawn not a word, and never shall. In the course of the interview I posed a question: Shouldn’t someone be looking into CAIR-CAN’s relationship with its more-troubling American relative, CAIR? For this, I was sued for libel.

In the spirit of openness and disclosure, INSIGNIS Strategic Research Inc. is making available, on request, relevant legal documents concerning this case, including an unofficial transcript of the interview in question. This is being done so that media and other concerned citizens may satisfy themselves firsthand about the important issues at stake in this matter.

As a commentator on national security affairs, my guiding principle throughout CAIR-CAN’s lawsuit was never to compromise hard-won rights of media and media commentators to their exercise of responsible free _expression under s. 2 of Canada’s Charter of Rights and Freedoms. I viewed this as a responsibility at a time when Canadians in Afghanistan and elsewhere are dying for such rights, and when civil liberties must be vigorously defended at home. Through the dedication of my family and many committed civil libertarians, including courageous colleagues of Muslim background, we prevailed against CAIR-CAN and Dr. Khan. CAIR-CAN and Dr. Khan dropped their suit, cold. No damages, no costs, no apology, no clarification.

CAIR sues bank for refusing service.

This from the Montreal Muslim News. It’s crucial at this point that tolerance be properly defined. People have a right to their own religious observance but no one should be obliged to embrace accommodate or adjust to it. Should I choose to walk an elephant to celebrate my love of Ganesh, the Hindu Elephant god, this doesn’t mean I have the right to demand the city hire extra people to shovel up after it.

This guide is an outline to all American employers specific needs of American Muslims in the workplace. Definitions of holidays and festivals, dietary needs clothing obligations and prayer times are all included in the booklet. For example, when a Muslim employee is at prayer, he cannot be obligated to conduct any of his usual duties as an employee. The booklet specifies that his coworkers should not interupt him under any circumstances and should not take offense, (something Muslims seems to wish a monopoly on) to his absense during prayer time. As for participating in professional conduct in a corporate setting, Muslim employees are not encouraged to shake hands or when engaged in conversation are obligated to lower their gaze. In other words, not only must we accomodate all these factors, but we must not dislike the inconvinience. Its not just what they must be allowed to do, its how we must feel about it.

Additionally, there are other booklets outlining Islam’s specific needs to American and Canadian employers. Guides are given to educators, health care providers and correctional institutions, with a forthcoming manual to be given to the law enforcement community.

CAIR: Calif. Muslim Denied Service at Bank over Hijab
DOJ asked to investigate possible civil rights violations by bank officials

(WASHINGTON, D.C., 2/2/2009) – A prominent national Islamic civil rights and advocacy group today called on the U.S. Department of Justice to determine whether a California bank violated a Muslim woman’s civil rights when it denied her service because she was wearing a religiously-mandated head scarf, or hijab.

According to the woman, she was denied service Saturday at a Navy Federal Credit Union in San Diego, Calif., despite telling bank officials that she wears her head scarf for religious reasons.

In a statement, the bank said:

“‘In the interest of Security and Safety for our members and employees – hats, hoods and sunglasses must be removed when entering the branch office.’ Special consideration for cultural and religious garments is under the discretion of the branch management. Navy Federal is making inquiries into the recent incident.”

“Under this bizarre and discriminatory policy, no Muslim woman wearing a head scarf, no Sikh man wearing a turban, no Jewish man wearing a yarmulke, no Catholic nun wearing a habit, no cancer survivor wearing a scarf, no Amish woman wearing a bonnet, and no blind person wearing sunglasses may enter a Navy Federal Credit Union branch nationwide,” said CAIR-San Diego Public Relations Director Edgar Hopida. “We call on the U.S. Department of Justice to investigate this disturbing case and Navy Federal’s apparently unconstitutional policy and to ensure that the religious rights of all customers are maintained.”

Hopida said CAIR offers a booklet called “An Employer’s Guide to Islamic Religious Practices” to help corporate managers gain a better understanding of Islam and Muslims.
