Western Civilization on Trial: Why We Should Be Watching Geert Wilders

From The National Review

As the Geert Wilders case goes into pre-trial, National Review Online asked our experts: Is there any legitimate reason he’s in court? What are the implications of such a trial being held, nevermind its outcome?

BAT YE’OR
Geert Wilders is a hero for those countless Europeans who cherish a free and democratic Europe — a Europe proud of its Judeo-Christian and humanistic values, its civilization, and its achievements in the field of human rights. But this is not today’s Europe. In today’s Europe, synagogues, Jewish schools, clubs, and cemeteries need to be guarded — as if going to a Jewish school or praying in a synagogue were a crime punishable by death as in Nazi-occupied Europe. Intellectuals, scholars, and those who protest the creeping Eurabization of culture and society are threatened, boycotted by their colleagues, thrown out of their jobs, forced to leave their families and go into hiding, or obliged to live with bodyguards. Wilders has devoted his life to freeing Europe from Eurabia’s clutches. To this titanic struggle he has sacrificed the security of his life and the joys of family. Threatened by a desert whirlwind blowing hatred upon Europe from the south, spending days and nights shielded by bodyguards, persecuted and tormented by his feckless Eurabian opponents, Geert Wilders incarnates the free soul of an unbending Europe.

Bat Ye’or is author, most recently, of Eurabia: The Euro-Arab Axis.

PAUL MARSHALL
The American media’s silence about the Geert Wilders trial is puzzling — the trial is explosive, much more so than most of America’s perennial “trials of the century.” Wilders, leader of the Freedom party, is arguably the Netherlands’s most popular politician, but for years he has had to live in safe houses, including on military bases. He now faces the possibility of imprisonment on charges of “group insult” and “incitement to hatred,” as defined by articles 137 (c) and (d) of the Dutch penal code, for his public speeches and op-eds criticizing Islam. Support Geert Wilders in London on 5th March 2010: In support of Democracy, Free Speech and Civil Liberties

By CMB • on February 7, 2010
from Liberties Alliance:

An event to support Geert Wilders when he comes to show Fitna in the House of Lords has been announced on Facebook:

Details about this demonstration can be found on Facebook, where there is the following information. Please consult the Facebook page for more information, or for updates or changes:

Geert Wilders has been invited to show his short film Fitna in the House of Lords on 5 March 2010.

The purpose of this rally is not to attack Islam or Muslims, but rather to show support for Geert Wilders and to celebrate the achievements of Western Civilization. Namely Democracy, Free Speech and Human Rights.

Just under a year ago the Labour Government barred him entry to the country after Nazir Ahmed threatened to bring 10 000 Muslims to besiege the Houses of Parliament. To censor opposing views in a democracy is a moral outrage and suggests an inclination towards tyranny and appeasement on the part of the Government. Of course the Government was subsequently forced to remove this ridiculous ban and now Geert Wilders can finally get to show his film in the House of Lords.

In Holland the latest attempt of the Dutch ruling class to keep Wilders from office has begun, Mr. Wilders is on trial in the Netherlands for telling the truth. This trial will have unparalleled significance for the future of Europe. It is not just about whether our culture will survive, but whether we are even allowed to state the fact that it is being threatened.

Mr Wilders visit will be only a couple of months prior to the expected British general election, and the issue of Islamization is something that many in Great Britain are acutely concerned about. Hopefully, his visit will help break the taboo about discussion of Sharia in Great Britain and encourage an open and honest debate on the subject in the run-up to the General Election.

Show your support for Geert Wilders, Democracy and Free Speech by attending this rally on the 5th March 2010.

Two articles on the Geert trial from GOV

Since Geert Wilders trial began in The Netherlands, no one has done better coverage of it than Gates of Vienna.Gates of Vienna. Below are two recent articles:

The Hitler Comparison

by Baron Bodissey

No topic makes Godwin’s Law swing into action more predictably than that of Geert Wilders. In any given article about Mr. Wilders the Nazi comparisons are likely to pop up before the end of first paragraph — or even the first sentence.

Our Flemish correspondent VH has translated a piece by Afshin Ellian about Peter R. de Vries, a TV crime-show host who was made internationally famous because of the Natalee Holloway case (which, according to some people, he misused for his own benefit) and who has blasted Bram Moszkowicz for defending Geert Wilders. Now Mr. De Vries has joined the vast throng of Dutch bien-pensants who find a striking resemblance between Geert Wilders and the Austrian corporal.

Peter R. de Vries
VH remarks:

The demonization of Geert Wilders these days is like a reprise of the events in the final months of Pim Fortuyn’s life, although it is more massive this time, since the government, the Queen, and the Court are openly involved.

Peter R. de Vries and his fight against ‘evil’ Wilders

Sometimes I think I can no longer be surprised anymore. And then it happens. Via the internet I regularly watch programs of the Iranian state broadcaster. It is an agony to watch them. They are not familiar with hearing both sides. Facts and fiction are not separated from each other.

And the language! The language of violence and hatred. A political debate does not take place there. Opposition leader Mousavi time and again warns of violence-spreading language in Iranian TV. In that way the opposition and their supporters are presented as dangerous and evil people. These are precisely the concepts the opposition resists. Do join us in a debate on substantive issues.

A Dutch broadcaster is not within light years comparable with the Iranian state broadcaster. But the Pauw and Witteman show [Wednesday, February 3, TV news show of the state funded broadcaster VARA] here and there showed some similarities to some of the news programs of Tehran.

Limits

They crossed a number of journalistic and moral boundaries. But here the end justifies the means. And this they have already done for quite a while. Witteman? Not incomprehensible for someone whose mentor was Marcel van Dam, who in a disguised way had called for violence against Pim Fortuyn. He even qualified him as an inferior human [in a TV debate hosted by Paul Witteman]. Of course chic opinion-makers issue a call to violence in different terms than those farmers would use. Its shape is well-refined and wrapped in historical terms.

Paul Witteman created the necessary opportunity in which a covert call for violence against MP Geert Wilders and his party could be composed. This art he did not learn from Bach, but from Marcel van Dam. Yes, you are reading this correctly. On Dutch TV there appeared in a noisy but camouflaged way a call for violence. How has Witteman composed his violent music?

Diana West: ‘Spoofing the death of Wilders’

From Diana West

Behold the smug mug of Willem Stegeman, who has made a Dutch state-subsidized film “spoofing” an assassination attempt on Geert Wilders.

“Spoofing.”

Of course, the grotesquerie of Stegeman and his “spoof” are not the main story in a backward — no, twisted — report from Radio Netherlands Worldwide (RNW) that leads with the response (“furious”) of Party for Freedom (PVV) members over “Radio FunX’s” assassination-attempt entertainment. Almost as breath-taking is the nasty photo of Wilders with which RNW, supposedly a news organization, illustrates the story.

Currently embroiled in open-ended Kafka-esque legal jeopardy, Wilders has lived under permanent threat of death since that November day in 2004 when Theo van Gogh was assassinated in broad daylight on an Amsterdam street, his head nearly cut off and an Islamic manifesto pinned with a knife into his chest threatening Wilders and Ayaan Hirsi Ali with a similar fate.

What better subject for state-subsidized parody?

From the story, which includes a trailer of the stomach-turning video:

Radio FunX director Willem Stegeman said that the full satirical video will be released next week. “It is an unmistakeable parody. I cannot give away the plot, but I can reveal that it will be a total anti-climax. We are exploring how far we can go, and some may find it in bad taste. But the same can be said of statements by some people in the political spectrum.

Get it, get it? “Spoofing” Wilders’ death is “bad taste” just as “some people” (Wilders) discussing the Islamic institutions of jihad and dhimmitude in this crucial period of Western Islamization is in “bad taste.” Watch out, mijnheer Stegeman. Your IQ is showing.

We are putting an ironic slant on the whole thing, striking a blow against all the ponderousness surrounding Mr Wilders.”

I think by “ponderousness” he means the two-ton bullet-proof vest Geert must wear anytime he appears in public, and the security detail his life now depends on.

Mr Stegeman emphasised that the film makers are not after demonising the nationalist right-wing anti-Islam MP. “But the film’s author is definitely drawing a connection with Pim Fortuyn,” the popular outcast politician who was assassinated in 2002 following a plea for stricter immigration rules.

Not demonizing Wilders, oh no — but “definitely” connecting Wilders to the demonized Fortuyn?

Words fail.

Video of ‘typical?’ Moroccan youth in the Netherlands

The following description was provided to me by Croscream, someone who is working very hard for the preservation of the enlightenment in The Netherlands.

The Moroccan Muslims form the most criminal and violent subset within Dutch culture and this is reflected by the Dutch often not referring to the deportation of Muslim criminals but Moroccan criminals.

This young boy represents an element within the Muslim street-scene, which mixed hiphop culture, traditional Berber values and Islam into a violent mix similar to the Pakistani presence in Britain and the Algerian one in France.

Boys like these form a large minority within the Moroccan ethnic group and his opinions and those of his friend do represent those of many of his kinsmen: Together with Turkish Muslims they make up the main threat to the safety of homosexuals, trans-gendered, Jews, Hindus and the elderly.

Committing everything from petty thefts, to drug-trade, gang related murder, and rape, young people like these consider themselves to be Muslims first, Moroccans second, and never Dutch, and use Islamic values as an excuse.

Since the so called Islamic renaissance, more and more of these young people feel attracted to the mosque and other traditional Islamic institutes and some studies have shown that the Muslim population in the Netherlands is locking itself away in ghetto’s or enclaves and is increasingly growing more radical.

The path this young boy takes, is a path many of his own people have taken.

Trial of Geert Wilders resumes today

As I have no news yet as to the trial of Geert Wilders, I thought I would post what I consider to be the two most important videos in terms of the state of Islam in the Netherlands as well as a couple of quotes about Islam from previous famous world leaders.
Yes the government of the Netherlands have cleverly phrased the wording of the charge so that it does not matter if what Mr. Wilders said is true or not, but for the rest of us, its critical that we view this trial as one of Islam, and one of whether or not the truth itself can be made illegal.

Mohammad poisoned the sources of human felicity at the fountain, by degrading the condition of the female sex…and he declared undistinguishing and exterminating war, as a part of his religion, against all the rest of mankind. The essence of his doctrine was violence and lust: to exalt the brutal over the spiritual part of human nature” – John Quincy Adams

“How dreadful are the curses which Mohammedanism lays on its votaries! Besides the fanatical frenzy, which is as dangerous in a man as hydrophobia in a dog…No stronger retrograde force exists in the world? (than Islam).” Winston Churchill

“I studied the Quran a great deal. I came away from that study with the conviction that there have been few religions in the? world as deadly to men as that of Muhammad…it is the principal cause of the decadence so visible today in the Muslim world and, though less absurd than the polytheism of old, its social and political tendencies are more to be feared, and I regard it as a form of decadence rather than a form of progress in relation to paganism itself.” Alexis de Tocqueville

Here is the video that was translated and subtitled just a few days ago but is well worth reposting for anyone who has not yet seen it of a journalist who spent a year in a Dutch Madrassa learning hate of the non-Muslim.

This one, while subtle, is very important at a lot of levels. Not just on Islam, which is a small part of the issue here in my opinion, but how leftism created layers of laws and enforcement on the Dutch people which most are not even aware of, and which greatly impact their ability to make descisions for themselves as a people as free men and women. The fact that the Dutch policy of ‘non-escalation’ means that any event within Holland, that might cause conflict between communities such as the event below, may not be reported in the news etc. is an abomination within a free society.

Please watch the video below and spread it around as you can.

Thank you Proud Crusader for the quotes.

Geert Wilders may be Churchill in some ways, but perhaps more Galileo

This is not the first time a European has been brought to a stacked court to face charges of telling the truth about irrational religious authority. While many compare Wilders to Churchill for his stalwart stand against evil and tyranny even while his fellow countrymen courted it as politically correct to do so, perhaps a more accurate comparison, at least in terms of this trial, is the one of Galileo and the Church of Rome. Telling the truth about the machinery of the Solar System was a grave offence if it contradicted the official view of celestial mechanics as the Church insisted it had to be, to stay in accord with biblical analysis. So it is with Geert. Before I get a list of angry comments about the facts of Galileo’s inquisition, I agree that the story is misrepresented in the popular view. But certainly it was indeed an issue of freedom of speech in the face of powerful religious authority.

The trial of Geert is exactly that, even if the religious authority is using a proxy.

News clip on trial of Geert Wilders

There is overall a deafening silence on the trial of Geert Wilders in the west. Still, most people do not know it is going on. In fact, the vast majority of people are well aware of some of the facts of the life of Galileo and his trial by the Catholic church for speaking astronomical truth and paying a price for it. Yet nearly no one knows that same trial is taking place right now in the church of political correctness for blasphemy of Islamic law.

I have it on good authority that broadcast media in the west in some cases will not directly cover this trial as they are just sick of having to defend themselves in various government media regulatory bodies against Muslim complainants.

I have a suggestion:

Get rid of government regulatory bodies of broadcast media. They are not necessary. There is no limit on the amount of spectrum. Notice by the way, this clip is from Russian TV. Perhaps they value freedom more than we do these days. They remember not having any.

Wonderful video of Dutch people protesting for Geert.

This is heart warming. Maybe the Dutch aren’t such Dodo’s after all. I mean Dodo not in the sense of stupid, but in fact the Dodo was a very friendly and curious, trusting bird who in fact which was slaughtered into extinction, ironically by Dutch sailors, because they couldn’t resist walking up to them to see what all the fuss was.
Maybe Islam is the revenge of the Dodo. But in any case, its wonderful to see these ordinary folk of all ages come out and support freedom as personified by Geert Wilders. They have my deepest and most sincere affection, dodo jokes notwithstanding.

Geert Wilders in court. Dutch TV news clip

Please check back in with Vlad or GOV in the next couple of hours. I just finished subtitling Geert’s opening speech at his trial and it is indeed historic. Below, is a news clip from Dutch TV about this very important trial for the whole free world. For anyone who might have wondered what the European Witch trials might have been like, Holland might be preparing to show us.

Geert Wilders’ personal speech at pre-trial hearing

From GeertWilders.nl

Mister Speaker, judges of the court,

I would like to make use of my right to speak for a few minutes.

Freedom is the most precious of all our attainments and the most vulnerable. People have devoted their lives to it and given their lives for it. Our freedom in this country is the outcome of centuries. It is the consequence of a history that knows no equal and has brought us to where we are now.

I believe with all my heart and soul that the freedom in the Netherlands is threatened. That what our heritage is, what generations could only dream about, that this freedom is no longer a given, no longer self-evident.

I devote my life to the defence of our freedom. I know what the risks are and I pay a price for it every day. I do not complain about it; it is my own decision. I see that as my duty and it is why I am standing here.

I know that the words I use are sometimes harsh, but they are never rash. It is not my intention to spare the ideology of conquest and destruction, but I am not any more out to offend people. I have nothing against Muslims. I have a problem with Islam and the Islamization of our country because Islam is at odds with freedom. Continue Reading →
