PEORIA, Ariz. – Peoria police are looking for a father suspected of running down his daughter because she was becoming too “westernized” and was not living according to their traditional Iraqi values.

Peoria police say 48-year-old Faleh Hassan Almaleki of Glendale allegedly ran his daughter down Tuesday at an Arizona Department of Economic Security parking lot in Peoria.

“When I walked out the door I saw two ladies on the ground, so my first thought was some kind of domestic dispute,” says witness Synthia Diaz.

The victim, 20-year-old Noor Faleh Almaleki of Surprise, is hospitalized with life-threatening injuries.

A second woman, Noor Almaleki’s roommate, was also injured. She’s identified as 43-year-old Amal Edan Khalaf, also of Surprise. Khalaf has what are described as non-life threatening injuries.

Faleh Almaleki was last seen driving a grey or silver 2000 Jeep grand Cherokee, Arizona license ADS-9192. He has not yet been apprehended.

Family and friends told Peoria investigators that Almaleki was mad and threatened his daughter for adopting Western ways. Almaleki and his family had moved to Glendale from Iraq

Islamists break Somali port truce

BBCNEWS… Fierce clashes have broken out between two Somali militant Islamist groups near the southern port of Kismayo, breaking a recent ceasefire deal.

An al-Shabab spokesman said his group had fought off an attack from the Hizbul-Islam group, killing some of their fighters.

There has been no independent verification of his claims.

The two groups began fighting over the port at the start of this month, but agreed a truce shortly after.

The militants had ousted government troops from Kismayo last year and agreed to govern the port together.

But al-Shabab named an administration last month which excluded Hizbul-Islam, sparking the fighting.

After a truce for most of this month, al-Shabab spokesman Sheikh Hassan Ya’qup said Hizbul-Islam attacked his fighters in Birta, 60km (37 miles) north of Kismayo.

“We repulsed them – they left some dead bodies behind,” he said.

Analysts said it was the first time Hizbul-Islam had been on the offensive in the dispute.

Their members were reported to have fled Kismayo after at least 12 people were killed in fighting at the start of the month.

The country has been wracked by conflict since 1991, when it last had an effective national government.

Islamist militants and warlords control much of southern Somalia, fighting against government troops.

The government, backed by the UN and African Union, controls only small parts of the capital, Mogadishu.

Some three million people – half the population – need food aid, while hundreds of thousands of people have fled the country.

Another Muslim Charged In Terror Plot

 Fox News…  A 27-year-old Massachusetts man has been charged with conspiring with others to support and plan violent jihad in and outside the United States, including terror plots to attack U.S. shopping malls and U.S. military in Iraq.Federal officials in Boston say Tarek Mehanna of Sudbury worked with others from 2001 to May of 2008 to provide support and resources in a conspiracy to “kill, kidnap, main or injure” people in foreign countries and to kill prominent U.S. politicians.
Mehanna was charged in a complaint with conspiracy to provide material support to terrorists, according to the Department of Justice.

The complaint further alleges that the co-conspirators attempted to radicalize others and inspire each other by, among other things, watching and distributing jihadi videos.

The charges accuse the suspects of talking about their desire to participate in Islamist holy war and of their desire to die on the battlefield.

 Federal prosecutors say Mehanna and his conspirators planned the logistics of a mall attack — including the possibility of attacking emergency responders. However, authorities say the plot was not carried out because they could not get automatic weapons.

“Mehanna and the co-conspirators had multiple conversations about obtaining automatic weapons and randomly shooting people in a shopping mall, and that the conversations went so far as to discuss the logistics of a mall attack, including coordination, weapons needed and the possibility of attacking emergency responders,” the Justice Department said.

Mehanna’s attorney J.W. Carney Jr. did not immediately return calls for comment.

If convicted on the material support charge, Mehanna faces up to 15 years in prison, to be followed by three years of supervised release and a $250,000 fine, the Justice Department said.

Mehanna was arrested in November 2008 for allegedly lying to authorities about the whereabouts of a man who trained with Al Qaeda members with the goal of overthrowing the Somali government.

In December 2006, Mehanna got a phone call from American Daniel Maldonado, who urged Mehanna to join him in Somalia, where he was training for jihad.

But when interviewed by FBI a few days later, he told FBI that Maldonado was in Egypt working for a Web site.

The FBI also interviewed Mehanna about a trip he and two othes made to Yemen in 2004.

 

Settlement Reached in Case of Praying Imams Removed From Flight

 FOXNEWS…Six imams who were removed from a US Airways flight in Minneapolis in 2006 have reached a tentative settlement of their discrimination lawsuit.The imams’ attorney, Omar Mohammedi, said Tuesday that all sides agreed to the settlement at a conference Monday. But he said the details still need to be finalized and the settlement needs to be approved by a federal judge.

Mohammedi declined to comment on the terms of the settlement but saids the six imams are satisfied with it.

An attorney for US Airways, Michael Lindberg, declined comment.

A spokesman for the Metropolitan Airports Commission had no immediate information.

The six Muslim imams were removed from the Phoenix-bound flight after passengers reported what they considered suspicious behavior.

They sued the airline, saying that unnamed “John Doe” passengers at the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport reported that they engaged in “suspicious” behavior — praying in the terminal — before they boarded the plane.

 

The lawsuit alleged that US Airways unlawfully removed the six imams from Flight 300 for discriminatory reasons based on race, religion, ethnicity, or other outside appearances.

The lawsuit said US Airways has “falsely claimed” the imams’ “suspicious” behavior, including saying “God is Great” in Arabic on the plane, talking about President Bush and Iraq and purchasing one-way tickets with cash. Passengers also reported that some of the imams asked for seat belt extenders and switched seats.

The suit says one of the imams was blind, and his friend asked another passenger if he would help him by switching seats. The passenger agreed, the suit alleged.

According to the lawsuit, the same imam regularly requests a seatbelt extension when flying.

According to the lawsuit, police arrived at the scene after receiving a call from the airline. The imams were forced off the plane, searched, handcuffed and held against their will for hours without explanation. The imams claim they were questioned by the FBI about where they were from, whether they did anything out of the ordinary in the airport and whether they wanted to do harm to the president of the United States.

An internal probe by US Airways found there was no racial profiling in the incident.

Mother in Tulay Goren ‘honour killing’ tells of daughter’s last day

Tulay GorenTIMESONLINE….A tearful mother today described finding her teenage daughter tied up on a bedroom floor the day before the schoolgirl was allegedly murdered by her father in an “honour killing”.

Hanim Goren told the Old Bailey that her daughter Tulay’s hands and feet were bound so tightly that they had turned purple.

She said that her husband, Mehmet, told her that he had tied the 15-year-old girl up to stop her from running away.

Tulay had agreed to return to her home in Woodford Green, northeast London, in January 1999 after disgracing her family by living with a boyfriend twice her age, the jury was told.

Mrs Goren, 45, has broken a 10-year silence to give evidence against her husband and his brothers Ali, 55, and Cuma, 42, who are accused of her daughter’s murder, the court has heard.

She said that she had returned home with another daughter, Hatice, 13, to find her husband and Cuma Goren sitting downstairs without Tulay on January 6, 1999.

“When we couldn’t see her downstairs, Hatice and I ran up the stairs straight away,” she told the court, speaking through a Turkish interpreter.

“In the children’s bedroom I saw Tulay lying on the floor face down. Her hands and her feet were tied up. Her hands and her feet were all a purple, black colour, tied,” she told the court. “Tulay said, ‘Mum, don’t untie, I want to die’.”

Mrs Goren said that she was crying as she tried to untie her daughter but that her husband ran upstairs and ordered her to stop. Continue Reading →

Canadian military denies paying Taliban for peace

 CTVNEWS…KANDAHAR — Both the Canadian Forces and the federal government strenuously denied any suggestion Friday that Canada ever paid off Taliban insurgents in order to prevent troops in Afghanistan from being attacked.

A report out of Kabul by news agency Agence France-Presse quoted unnamed Afghan and Western officials as saying the practice of paying insurgents not to attack was widespread among NATO coalition forces, including Canadian soldiers.

Not so, said Task Force Kandahar spokesperson Maj. Mario Couture.

“Canadians are not involved in any way, shape or form with payments to Taliban,” Couture said. “This is truly false.”

Defence Minister Peter MacKay, speaking in St. John’s, said it was the first he was hearing of the report and described it as likely “Taliban propaganda.”

“We have international obligations, we have conventions that we have to follow, but most importantly, we have to respect human rights,” MacKay said.

“This suggestion that we’re bribing the Taliban not to engage in military — or I would call them terrorist attacks — clearly isn’t working. We’ve had 131 casualties. So, that sad reality seems to put to a lie what the Taliban are saying.”

There are a number of different development initiatives in place in Afghanistan, and have been for years, that involve financial incentives and are designed to discourage lending support or succour to the Taliban.

Couture said Canadian soldiers do pay out sums of money to local Afghans in exchange for their weapons, while others are paid to do work on behalf of the coalition — building roads or helping with construction projects — to discourage Taliban involvement.

“We’re using work as a weapon against the Taliban,” Couture said. “It’s not money that we distribute… for no reason. This is hard-earned money.”

Friday’s report came on the heels of a British newspaper report that said Italian military and intelligence officials had handed over money to the Taliban in exchange for peace.

“I would rely on military officials on the ground to be aware if such a thing were happening,” MacKay said.

“I strongly suspect that this is more Taliban propaganda. Of course, they’re not bound by rules of engagement or simple things such as truth.”

Iranian commanders assassinated

The Iranian authorities blame Obama, America and Britain for the attack.

BBCNEWS…Several top commanders in Iran’s elite Revolutionary Guards have been killed in a suicide bombing in the volatile south-east of the country.

Iranian state television said 31 people died in the attack, in the Pishin region of Sistan-Baluchistan, and more than 25 were injured.

Shia and Sunni tribal leaders were also killed. A Sunni resistance group, Jundullah, said they carried it out.

President Mahmoud Ahmandinejad said the criminals would be punished.

“The criminals will soon get the response for their anti-human crimes,” Irna quoted him as saying.

Sistan-Baluchistan is mainly made up of the Baluchi ethnic group, who belong to the Sunni Muslim minority of Shia-ruled Iran.

Jundallah has previously been accused by Iran of terrorist activities in the province.

Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani said “US action” contributed to the attack – an accusation dismissed by the US.

According to state media, one or more suicide bombers targeted the group of Revolutionary Guards leaders who had arranged to meet with tribal leaders.

One report said there were two bombs – one inside the meeting and one aimed at a convoy of guards just arriving.

‘Terrorist’ attack

The deputy commander of the Guards’ ground force, General Noor Ali Shooshtari, and the Guards’ chief provincial commander, Rajab Ali Mohammadzadeh, were among at least six officers killed, state news agency reported.

Mr Larijani, speaking at an open session of parliament which was broadcast live on state radio, said: “We express our condolences for their martyrdom.

“The intention of the terrorists was definitely to disrupt security in Sistan-Baluchistan Province.”

“We consider the recent terrorist attack to be the result of US action. This is a sign of America’s animosity against our country,” Mr Larijani said, quoted by AFP.

“Mr Obama has said he will extend his hand towards Iran, but with this terrorist action he has burned his hand,” he said, referring to US President Barack Obama.

The US condemned the attack, with a state department spokesman adding: “Reports of alleged US involvement are completely false.”

Earlier reports on Iranian TV quoted what it called “informed sources” as saying that Britain was directly involved.

A Foreign Office spokesman said: “The British government condemns the terrorist attack… and the sad loss of life which it caused.”

The Iranian government has previously accused both countries of supporting the militants.

Sistan-Baluchistan province, which borders both Pakistan and Afghanistan, has long been affected by smuggling, drug trafficking, banditry and kidnapping.

Jundallah, also known as the Popular Resistance Movement of Iran, says it is fighting against the political and religious oppression of the country’s Sunni minority.

In May, three men were executed for their role in a bombing of a mosque during evening prayers which killed at least 19 people in the south-east city of Zahedan in Sistan-Baluchistan.

The hangings came two days after the attack and the men were in custody on other charges at the time of the bombing.

Revolutionary Guards were among 11 people killed in an attack in 2007 in Zahedan.

Ship seized trying to smuggle migrants into Canada

CTV NEWS…Seventy-six would-be migrants have been taken into custody in Victoria after the RCMP commandeered the ship that had been carrying them off the coast of British Columbia.

The RCMP vessels Higgitt and Lindsay, and the Canadian Navy frigate HMCS Regina, escorted the ship to port after it was intercepted.

The vessel was sailing under the name of “Ocean Lady.” Its crew is reportedly Canadian, and its passengers are believed to be from Sri Lanka.

Both passengers and crew were in good health, considering they had been at sea for some time, the Canada Border Services Agency’s Rob Johnston said at a news conference.

“Even though we’re satisfied, we are making arrangements for medical examinations as we process them through,” Johnston said.

Crowds of people gathered along the water where the ship docked. However, officials put up tarps to keep the vessel and its cargo out of sight.

“Each passenger came off one by one, rather than all coming down at once,” said CTV’s Jim Beattie. “They have all been interviewed, processed, checked for health concerns.”

The passengers are of varying ages, he said, but officials were not saying whether there were children on board.

Ottawa has indicated it was tipped off about the approaching ship by its “security partners.”

“We believe this has been an operation for a week at least as they’ve watched this vessel head towards North America,” Beattie said.

Pictures of the “Ocean Lady” released by the RCMP show people wearing civilian clothes, waving to a helicopter overhead.

“The RCMP took steps to intervene with close support of the Canadian Forces and the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA),” Minister of Public Safety Peter Van Loan said in a statement. “An RCMP Emergency Response Team trained in maritime intervention boarded and took control of the vessel.”

There were preliminary indications that the ship originated in Sri Lanka, Van Loan added.

Officials in Ottawa said the passengers will be detained for the time being. They will be moved from Victoria to Vancouver in the coming days, where authorities will determine what to do with the group.

Opposition to anti-extremist Islam march

Supporting extremist Islam is now the norm for left wing liberals in Britain while condemning is, well, condemned. Anyone else confused?

Welsh Defense League BBCNEWS…Around 200 people gathered to protest about a demonstration against Islamic extremism by the Welsh Defence League (WLD) in Swansea.

It was in reaction to around 60 members of the WLD staging a march in the city.

Despite police hopes the two groups would stage marches in different areas of the city, they converged.

Around 200 police, some on horses, kept the groups apart. One man, 25, was arrested for a racially aggravated public order offence.

Roads were closed in order for the demonstrations to go ahead.

Speaking before its demonstration, the WLD said its event would be peaceful, but protests by its sister organisation the English Defence League have ended in disorder.

Welsh Secretary Peter Hain has accused the WDL of using “boot boy tactics”.

But the WLD denied being racist and called Mr Hain’s comments “nonsense”.

A number of opposition groups were involved in the counter-demonstration.

Police had hoped the two groups would hold separate demonstrations. But despite their efforts, the groups came within close proximity of each other.

Dozens of officers lined the streets, included several officers on horses in order to keep the protest groups apart.

“When you bring two groups together… there’s going to be passion, and that’s what we have had today,” said Ch Supt Mark Mathias during the demonstrations.

“So far it has been mostly peaceful.

“Originally we did two protest sites – two assembly points. We did think we could have two distinct locations either side of the city.

“Obviously that hasn’t happened but so far, both groups have been kept separate.”

Speaking after the event, he said: “I am pleased with the success the police operation today, which allowed the protests to pass off peacefully, whilst taking into the account the rights of the people of Swansea to go about their normal business.

“I would to thank them for patience and understanding for any disruption that was caused.

“People have the right to protest but overall the safety of the public and maintaining order is a priority.”

It is understood a second WDL protest planned in Newport next weekend has been called off.

Man arrested after mosque attack

As tensions between Muslims and Britons begin to flare I am afraid we will begin to see more tit for tat attacks in the future. This is a direct result of the British government using the long arm of the law to silence the public concern over the Islamization of the U.K.

BBCNEWS…A 53-year-old man has been arrested after petrol was thrown at the doorway of a mosque in Wearside.

The petrol was not ignited and did not set fire at the mosque in Chester Road, Sunderland.

The building was empty and no-one was hurt in the incident, which happened in the early hours of Friday morning.

Police investigations include viewing CCTV footage, forensic analysis and DNA testing. Extra officers are patrolling to address residents’ concerns.

Iraq sends back UK asylum flight

BBCNEWS…Iraqi asylum seekers sent back to Baghdad by the UK government have been refused re-entry to their homeland, and flown back to Britain.

The flight, carrying about 40 asylum seekers, landed in Baghdad on Thursday. Ten were admitted but the rest were turned away and have now arrived back.

Human rights group Refugee and Migrant Justice said this was “unprecedented”.

The Home Office said it was working with the Iraqi government to iron out issues that caused some to be returned.

The reason for their return, it said, was a matter for the Iraqi authorities.

It is understood that about 80 escorts were also aboard the government-chartered flight.

The asylum seekers are now at Brook House detention centre near Gatwick airport where they are being given legal advice, according to a Refugee and Migrant Justice spokeswoman.

She said: “One would have expected with such a high profile remove, the Home Office would have sorted this out with the Iraqi authorities.

“For such a high profile group to be returned is unprecedented.”

 Indonesia… Banda Aceh. A controversial bill that includes a provision for the stoning to death of adulterers is now officially law, even without the signature of the Aceh governor, a local councilor said on Thursday.

The draft of the Qanun Jinayat Code, a set of bylaws that replaces elements of the Criminal Code with Shariah provisions for Muslims, was endorsed by the Aceh Legislative Council on Sept. 14.

The measures call for the stoning of adulterers and 100 lashes for anyone caught engaging in premarital sex, among its other punishments.

The ratification of the bill has been sharply criticized by human rights activists, and Governor Irwandi Yusuf reportedly refused to sign it into law.

Moharriadi Syafari, a councilor from the Muslim-based Prosperous Justice Party (PKS), said the main reason for the law was to “save” people in Aceh from acts not approved by religion.

“Human rights activists should not see the Qanun Jinayat from a narrow-minded perspective, as though it breaches human rights, because basically Islamic law has a high respect for human rights,” Syafari said.

He said the bill automatically became law 30 days after being endorsed by the council despite the governor’s refusal to endorse the measure. Continue Reading →

Wilders receives Islamic welcome in UK

Geert-Wilders-04_629791a TIMESONLINE…A far-right Dutch politician who was turned away from Britain after criticising the Koran as a ‘fascist book’ was today forced to hastily change the location of a scheduled press conference in London in the interests of his own security.

Geert Wilders, who is head of the Freedom Party, flew into Heathrow airport this morning after winning a court battle to enter the country.

Mr Wilders had been due to host a press conference on College Green, opposite the Palace of Westminster, at noon.

However, about thirty male activists from a group called Islam for UK began chanting: “Wilders burn in hell” and “Sharia for UK”.

Brandishing banners saying, “Sharia is the solution, freedom go to hell” and “Geert Wilders deserves Islamic punishment”, the protesters were held back by about fifty policemen.

Mr Wilders was advised not to confront or walk past the protesters and instead to hold his press conference in the nearby Abbey Gardens building used by members of the House of Lords.

Mr Wilders told journalists that he lived under constant security because of his views. Explaining his controversial views on Islam, he said: “I have a problem with the Islamic ideology, the Islamic culture, because I feel that the more Islam that we get in our societies the less freedom that we get.” Continue Reading →

UN abuse investigator ignores abusers, investigates Canada

Gay McDougall National Post…Gay McDougall, the UN’s chief monitor of the way governments treat minorities, is tasked with entering countries to expose discrimination and abuse.

So surely the prime targets of her investigative talents are the world’s worst human rights abuser states? Places like China, Cuba, Libya and Saudi Arabia come to mind — to name a few of Freedom House’s “worst of the worst.”

Yet McDougall arrived in Canada this week after picking the country as her eighth investigative destination since her 2005 appointment as the UN’s first Independent Expert on minority issues.

Her previous “targets” were three European Union members, France, Greece and Hungary; as well as Dominican Republic, Guyana, Ethiopia and Kazakhstan.

In other words, half of her investigative efforts have been focused on advanced democracies.

It’s not hard to find commentators who say the UN’s priorities are upside down.

“The reality is that every would-be immigrant in the world knows that Canada ranks at the top in its treatment of minorities, thanks to its constitutional guarantees, independent judiciary, elected parliament, vigorous civil society and free press-that all can speak for affected minorities and provide remedies where needed,” said Hillel Neuer, executive director of UN Watch in Geneva, the host city of the UN’s main human rights branches.

“But there is not a single domestic institution that will speak for the two million black African migrants persecuted in Libya, the ethnic minorities oppressed in Tibet, or the women subjugated in Saudi Arabia. That is precisely where an international voice would be vital.”

But the irony does not rest there. The UN statement announcing McDougall’s Canadian probe includes a reference to the term “visible minorities,” which the UN’s anti-racism watchdog told Ottawa to stop using two years ago. Continue Reading →

A love story ‘murdered’ in Srinagar

Hindu boy marries Muslim girl. Muslim parents pay police to murder boy. Silly kids, falling in love. Have they no shame.

The Times of India…Rajneesh was a small trader from Jammu often going on business trips to Srinagar. He fell in love with a girl and married her.

He wanted to be faithful to his beloved from Srinagar, who was beautiful and had unflinching trust in her life partner. It’s difficult, if not impossible, to have love bloom between Jammu and Srinagar. But it was more than that. The boy from Jammu was a Hindu and the girl from Srinagar, a Muslim. Ameena was her name and she changed her name to Anchal Sharma after marriage.

A month after the marriage the boy was picked up from his Jammu house by the Kashmir police and taken to Srinagar for “investigation”. The police never registered his name, Rajneesh Sharma, as the accused who is being taken to Srinagar, but instead named his brother Pawan Sharma in police records, to confuse and hide the real identity.

The smell of a plot was there the moment they took the boy hustled in a jeep and covered with a blanket.

The boy never returned home to celebrate his first Diwali with Anchal nee Ameena.

He was found dead hanging with an iron grill in his Srinagar cell. Police said he committed “suicide”. An inconsolable Anchal alleged that her parents bribed police to murder her beloved because he dared to marry a Muslim girl from the valley.
