Arab League to appeal for no-fly zone over Gaza

FRANCE 24… Arab League Secretary General Amr Mussa announced Sunday his intention to appeal to the UN Security Council for a no-fly zone over Gaza, where repeated Israeli air strikes have left at least 18 people dead since Thursday.

AFP – Arab League chief Amr Mussa said on Sunday the organisation will ask the UN Security Council to impose a no-fly zone over Gaza, which Israel has pounded with air strikes in response to rocket fire.

Mussa told an emergency meeting of Arab League ambassadors that “the Arab bloc in the United Nations has been directed to ask for the convention of the Security Council to stop the Israeli aggression on Gaza and impose a no-fly zone.”

Israeli and Palestinian officials were on Sunday floating a ceasefire to end fighting in the coastal strip where Israeli air strikes have killed at least 18 people since Thursday.

But Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has warned of an even stronger response if more rockets are fired from the Palestinian territory controlled by the Islamist movement Hamas.

The flare-up came after an anti-tank missile fired from Gaza hit an Israeli school bus on Thursday, wounding two people, one of them critically.

Even if Arab representatives at the United Nations succeed in convening a Security Council meeting, the United States, a close ally of Israel, is likely to veto it.

The Arab League request for a no-fly zone over Gaza may have been inspired by a UN-sanctioned aerial blockade for Libya to halt forces loyal to Moamer Kadhafi harming civilians.

Arab League backing for that no-fly zone was seen as crucially important by the United States when it pressed for a UN resolution that authorised it and other countries to keep Libyan planes grounded.

As cool as this footage is, for me it brought home the reality of living with this threat year after year. Now I get why they call it ‘terrorism’. There is nothing military or warrior like about lobbing death filled missiles at people.

Tel Aviv neighbourhood rises up against illegal immigration and govt policy

I post this because on my youtube channel I face many antisemites each day ranging from the full knuckle draggers to the ones that actually mix some rational fact with their Jew-hatred. One of the common memes being spread by the more knuckle dragging variety is that Jews across the world are attempting to force tons of Muslim immigration into Europe somehow, while keeping Israel ‘pure’ in some unfathomable manner. Unfathomable at least to me as Jews range from Chinese, Ethiopian, White American etc.

Let’s assume that they mean Israel is kept ‘Pure Jewish’ (whatever that means) and escapes the mass migration of people from failing states to Western style democratic ones where there is wealth and human rights. Then this video should be revealing to them. But it won’t be. Jew Hate is not rational. I have never encountered an antisemite that hates Jews because of some belief oriented issue or even a behaviour based one. They invent reason to hate Jews usually projecting the worst attributes of humanity as a whole onto ‘Jews’ in an invasion of the body snatchers like way, and hope perhaps to expunge themselves and humanity of those attributes by killing Jews. In any case, it rarely if ever deals with any facts.

Black University Students Call Use of ‘Israeli Apartheid’ False, Offensive

Through a number of ads appearing in college newspapers on campuses that saw Israeli Apartheid Week activity, a group of African American students lambasted Israel Apartheid week organizers for abusing the term.

In the ads entitled “Words Matter” which appeared on April 7, members of The Vanguard Leadership Group accuses Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) of a “false and deeply offensive” characterization of Israel.

“SJP has chosen to manipulate rather than inform with this illegitimate analogy,” Vanguard says in the ad, signed by its members attending a number of black colleges. “We request that you immediately stop referring to Israel as an apartheid society and to acknowledge that the Arab minority in Israel enjoys full citizenship with voting rights and representation in the government.”

Vanguard, a leadership development group for students from historically black universities, has recently built a relationship with the American Israel Public Affairs Committee, with many members visiting Israel.

Residents in Ashkelon reported Thursday seeing Israel’s new Iron Dome defense system intercept a Grad rocket fired towards the southern city from the Gaza Strip.

Eyewitnesses told Ynet they saw the rocket explode in midair and realized that the system had intercepted its first rocket.

Moshe Ben Hemo, a resident of Ashkelon, said, “I was in the street and I heard a strange sound, like someone pushing the gas pedal of a car. Then I saw the rocket fly through the air and explode. Immediately I realized that it was Iron Dome, that’s what has been said here.”

He added that the rocket alert had not been set off. “The rocket was apparently supposed to explode in Ashkelon. In any case I’m glad the system works,” he said.

After hitting a student bus traveling through Shaar Hanegev Regional Council Thursday, critically wounding a 16-year old boy and lightly injuring the driver, terrorists in Gaza fired more than 15 rockets and mortar shells at Israel. No further injuries were reported.

Ashkelon’s Iron Dome system was set up just Monday, with soldiers running extensive tests to make sure it was functioning properly. Another system was set up earlier in Beersheba.

The defense establishment decided to place the system earlier than planned due to the recent escalation of violence in the south. It has already been set up in Haifa, and in the coming weeks officials plan to put it in place in central Israel as well.

Israeli Minister of Public Security Yitzhak Aharonovitch said Israel and Gaza are on the verge of a conflict akin to Operation Cast Lead, Xinhua reported April 5, citing Israeli Radio. Aharonovitch also warned residents of southern Israel to expect more rocket attacks from Gaza. The statements follow another round of mortar fire from the Palestinians and an Israeli soldier’s killing a Palestinian who ventured too close to the fence that separates Gaza from Israel. An adviser to Aharonovitch affirmed the sincerity of the minister’s statements.

Asma Al-Ghoul, a Palestinian journalist beaten and tortured by Hamas

Last month, at least eight Muslim Palestinian female journalists were physically beaten with clubs, iron chairs, and fists, stabbed, and tortured with electric shocks by male Hamas security forces in the Gaza strip.  Their cell phones, laptops, documents, and cameras were confiscated. They were also arrested. Some were forced to sign a document “pledging to refrain from covering such events again.”

The “events” were a series of pro-unity rallies organized by Palestinian youth on Facebook (!) which demanded an end to the dispute between Islamist Hamas and a presumably more moderate Fatah.

So much for the Arab “spring,” and the purposefully misguided Western (and these heroically naïve youthful demonstrators’) belief that the increasingly well organized Islamist Middle East will really rise up on behalf of human rights and women’s rights—without which there can be no democracy.

But this is not my main point.

The mainstream media did not cover this male-on-female atrocity in Gaza. In the English-speaking world, only a handful of journalists, including two Israelis, one writing in the Jerusalem Post, one writing at Big Peace, covered it. A few smaller newspapers in America and an English-language Egyptian paper did so as well.

Once again it has happened. At a demonstration in front of the Berlin Hauptbahnhof on 27 March 2011, that called for a boycott against Israel, police took two men into custody because they refused to cease their peaceful expression of solidarity with Israel by displaying an Israeli flag.

On March 27 2011 there was a demonstration at the Berlin Hauptbahnhof exhibition. The State of Israel was accused of apartheid (an almost racist comparison) and a boycott of Israeli products was demanded. The brutal terrorist acts against Israel, however, have been omitted, downplayed or justified.

Here is some great news. I wish that people like this received a lot more attention from the MSM as well as blogs like this one. There are Muslim groups that are not foaming, seventh century, rabid, hate filled nut bags. This is really refreshing to watch. Thanks Shortandcurlies for sending me this. Also its important to note that this group seems to have some actual understanding of the issues as opposed to the British party line on these matters, which seems to be to get total idiots like Baroness Warsi to laugh and scoff at religious Muslims and claim they are not the true Islam without actually ever debating them on content, history or issues.
