These women details many specific cases of typical abuse of women in the Islamic world as well as many very specific cases from Saudi Arabia to Dallas Texas. I am somewhat pleased that women are now speaking up about this. I have often wondered where the feminists are on Islam, the most salient issue concerning women in the world today, often seem to be in hiding.
This video also features a speech by Dr. Wafa Sultan, one of my growing list of heroes from the Islamic world. Noni Darwish and others give personal and horrifying accounts of life for women under Islam and its shariah law. LONDON: Afghanistan has enacted a new legislation empowering men of Shia sect of Islam to deny their wives food and sustenance if they refuse to obey their husbands’ sexual demands, a media report said on Saturday.
The new final draft of the legislation also grants guardianship of children exclusively to their fathers and grandfathers, and requires women to get permission from their husbands to work, The Guardian reported.
“It also effectively allows a rapist to avoid prosecution by paying ‘blood money’ to a girl who was injured when he raped her,” the report said quoting US charity Human Rights Watch.
In early April, US President Barack Obama and British Prime Minister Gordon Brown joined an international chorus of condemnation when the earlier version of the law legalised rape within marriage.
Although Afghan President Hamid Karzai appeared to back down, activists
said the revised law still contained repressive measures and contradicted Afghanistan’s constitution and international treaties it is signed up to.
According to the report, the new law has been backed by the hardline Shia cleric Ayatollah Mohseni, who is thought to have influence over the voting intentions of some Shias, who make up around 20 per cent of the population.
Karzai has assiduously courted such minority leaders in the run up to next Thursday’s election, which is likely to be close, a poll indicated.

Well, on the Multi Culti front, Canada has something to be proud of. It would seem that we are ahead of the curve in terms of ‘honour’ killings and other Muslim crime for the percentage of Islamic population Canada has. If I lived in Toronto, I would make my next car one built from asbestos.

OTTAWA — Crown prosecutors are seeking to send the head of Ottawa’s taxi union to jail for up to two years, alleging that a campaign of threatening and intimidating behaviour directed toward his daughter after she turned her back on the family’s Muslim beliefs was an honour crime.
Yusef Al Mezel’s threat of an honour killing was designed to “control and dominate” his then-23-year-old daughter, Eman Al Mezel, by suggesting she had brought shame upon her family that would be met with violent consequences, assistant Crown attorney James Cavanagh argued during a sentencing hearing Thursday.
Al Mezel, who pleaded guilty to criminal harassment last September, was trying to deny his daughter “every basic freedom as to how she could live her life,” Cavanagh said, the result of an “underlying notion of patriarchal dominance” based on a “perverted and archaic belief in family honour.”
“When she wouldn’t bend to his will … he raised the spectre of violence in the name of honour to scare her into complying with his wishes,” said Cavanagh, who urged Ontario Superior Court Justice Lynn Ratushny to sentence the 44-year-old president of the Canadian Autoworkers Local 1688 to 18 to 24 months behind bars.
Al Mezel admitted he repeatedly called, wrote, followed and visited the residences of Eman Al Mezel in July 2007 in an attempt to get his daughter to return home after a violent incident where he pushed her into a flight of stairs and threatened to break her legs and kill her before smashing her computer. Very few people in the West know what is going on inside the Muslim world and what it portends for them. The fact is that through the dominant media, such as CNN, Americans are subjected to much of the same misinformation with regard to Islam that I grew up with inside the Muslim world. The result is that Americans are in the dark attempting to formulate their strategy of how to defend themselves against the threat of terror, domestic jihad and Sharia. While Americans get ridiculed for being “Islamophobes,” the Muslim world itself is undergoing a huge and painful awakening.
For instance, a prominent Egyptian lawyer and women’s rights activist, Nagla Al Imam, recently announced her conversion to Christianity in Cairo, Egypt. The announcement brought shock waves in and beyond Egypt. This is perhaps the first case ever of its kind, where a Muslim woman, who is also a Sharia expert, has openly challenged Islamic apostasy laws from within the Muslim world.
Ms. Al Imam’s incredible courage was on display in an internet chat room, where she announced that she is not afraid, will stand up for the human rights of apostates and refuses to leave her homeland, Egypt. This was immediately followed by attacks and calls (‘fatwas’) for death of the 36 year-old graduate of Al Azhar Islamic University.
Egyptian media not only reported the threat but also participated in the attacks. Ms. Al Imam was literally entrapped by a TV station ‘Al Mihwar’ with the pretext of inviting her for an interview. Upon arrival to the TV studio she was told the show she was to appear on was cancelled. She was then taken forcibly to a room where she was held against her will for hours inside the studio. She was assaulted, threatened and insulted by several people. She was able to escape, and went to her internet chat room telling the world what happened and said she will demand protection from the Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak. Continue Reading →

All’s been quiet on the sisterhood front. Too quiet, considering how many horrifying stories about women have made the headlines.
There were the alleged honour killings of the three teenaged Shafia girls from Montreal, along with one of their father’s two wives. The father, the mother and the girls’ brother are charged with murder.
Then there was the eight-year-old girl in Phoenix whose Liberian refugee family disowned her after she was raped. They claim she had dishonoured the family.
And there was Saudi beauty pageant winner Aya Ali al-Mulla, who won her crown without anyone ever seeing her face; she was draped from head to foot in Saudi Arabia’s traditional black abaya. Pageant officials pronounced al-Mulla, 18, the Queen of Beautiful Morals. She had to pass rigorous quizzes on her morality, her obedience to her parents, and other such virtues, to win her title.
All of these incidents have as their theme oppression and the quashing of women’s right to autonomy and self-determination, by the males in their milieu. My question is, where are the queens of beautiful morals here in the West?
I checked out the websites of the usual suspects. Naomi Klein is busy tooting her own horn with an announcement that her book, The Shock Doctrine, won the Warwick Prize for Writing! (Exclamation point hers). I did a search for “honour killing” on her site and came up with “Your search yielded no results.”
It’s possible that my good old namesake is unclear on the concept of oppression.
Klein, who is Jewish, is calling for boycotts of Israel in support of the Palestinian cause whose leaders have declared they want to kill Jewish people. Maybe if she supported the Palestinian people via protesting their oppression by their terrorist Hamas leaders, she’d have a worthy cause.
Then I looked at Judy Rebick’s blog. Like Naomi, she’s preoccupied with flogging her own book, Transforming Power. One recent post, dated July 28, was titled: The Toronto Municipal Strike: Who Do We Get Mad At?
I don’t know who to get mad at about the garbage strike in Toronto, Judy. Living in Calgary, it doesn’t cross my mind that much.
But shouldn’t we all be even a teeny bit mad at the way women are being denied their selfhood by the patriarchal environments they live in, be it in Canada, Phoenix or wherever it’s happening?
Judy does have a post from June titled “Take action in solidarity with the indigenous people of Peru.”
What about a little solidarity with four dead women whose car ended up in the Rideau Canal near Kingston? How about a show of solidarity with that beauty queen in Saudi Arabia who’s obviously a brilliant girl because she plans to go to medical school, but who can’t show her face to the world because to do so might dishonour her family and lead to a fatal consequence?
And is there nary a tear to be shed or a word to be spared for that poor child in Phoenix whose family has tossed her aside like so much trash for something that was not her fault?
Meanwhile, on Rose’s Place, which bills itself as a blogsite for Canadian feminists, recent discussions centred around Sonia Sotomayor, Obama’s birth certificate and U.S. health reform, with Toronto Star columnist Antonia Zerbisias complaining about Muslim-bashing regarding the alleged honour killings.
It is not Muslim-bashing to acknowledge that a crime has allegedly happened in a Muslim family.
It is not Sikh-bashing to say that some of the alleged honour killings in Canada in the past few years happened in Sikh families.
Shall we just ignore the United Nations Population Fund’s estimate that 5,000 women a year die in honour killings, to avoid casting aspersions on any culture? Shall we pretend it’s not happening in Egypt, Lebanon, Turkey, Morocco and Pakistan, to name just a few countries?
There seems to be no problem with denouncing Christian culture for decorating trees at Christmastime, or displaying crosses on Remembrance Day, but when members of another culture engage in actual evildoing, we’re supposed to pretend it all just falls under the rubric of domestic violence. Since domestic violence occurs in all cultures, honour killings can be conveniently lumped into that category and we can keep pretending it’s not particular to certain cultures.
Nobody’s even mentioned the fact that Mohammad Shafia was living in this country with two wives, one of whom died with the girls. Let’s just pass completely over that form of oppression visited on these two women, for fear of offending someone.
As Judy Rebick says in another June blog posting: “The revolution will be tweeted or whatever.” Yeah, Judy. Whatever.

Muslim force ‘maries’ 15 year old, rapes her siter, mom helps, ho hum dog bites man.
A headline like this when the civilized world was still unaware of the daily horror and barbarity which is Islam would have made tongues wag and TV stations pour forth harsh questions for weeks. Now, it’s barely a headline in one of the very few media venues that bother with this sort of thing at all. Of course, had it been a non Muslim, say a white Christian well, that’s news. I suppose in a way white Christians should be flattered that the default position for them is to such a near ‘majestically’ higher standard. Or perhaps the Muslim world should riot because the worlds media holds them to such a preternaturally low one. Of course they will not. Pedophilia, rape, forced ‘marriage’ and so on are orthodoxy in Islam. It is just copying the behavior and teachings of their perfect man, Mohamed.

Specialist child abuse detectives at Stratford in East London have launched an investigation
Police are hunting a suspected illegal immigrant accused of raping a 15-year-old schoolgirl who had been forced to marry him.
The Bangladeshi, in his 40s, is also wanted over claims that he sexually assaulted the girl’s 12-year-old sister.
He disappeared after the elder girl, now aged 17, contacted the Metropolitan Police on June 26 because she feared she was now being forced into a second marriage.
Specialist child abuse detectives based at Stratford were told that the girl, from an Asian family living in Bethnal Green in London’s East End, had been the subject of a forced marriage in April 2007 when she was 15.
Officers have arrested a 53-year-old woman, believed to be another family member, on suspicion of aiding and abetting rape and actual bodily harm. The arrest for assault is linked to an attack on a six-year-old boy.
A Metropolitan Police spokesman said: ‘The sham marriage took place at an address in the E2 area. She alleged she was subsequently raped by the man.
‘Further inquiries revealed a second girl, then aged 12, had also been sexually assaulted by the man.
‘A 53-year-old woman was arrested on July 7 on suspicion of aiding and abetting rape and actual bodily harm.
‘She has subsequently been bailed to return on September 1 to an East London police station pending further enquiries.
‘The male suspect remains outstanding and extensive police inquiries continue to trace him.’
Sudanese woman wears pants to indecency trial
We used to call Western feminists brave when they wore pants in the 60s challenging the orthodoxy of cultural norms. None of those women faced 40 lashes and an unlimited fine. 40 lashes by the way, is painful beyond imagining. There are videos here on vlad of men being torn apart mentally by far fewer than 40.
Here is a woman who is a hero by real standards. I hope the world is paying attention. Had this been in the 60s when liberalism was actually liberalism, she would certainly have achieved the desired effect. International outrage would most certainly bring about change, and if not, at least massive international attention and embarrassment on this government.
I doubt modern ‘liberals’ will be so caring. After all, woman’s rights, the fight against sharia law and justice and equality for minorities have somehow become positions of ‘the far right wing’

KHARTOUM – A Sudanese woman facing 40 lashes for wearing pants in public made her first appearance in a court packed with supporters Wednesday, in what her lawyer described as a test case of Sudan’s decency laws.
There were chaotic scenes as Lubna Hussein, a former journalist who works for the United Nations, attended the hearing wearing the same green slacks that got her arrested for immodest dress.
Indecency cases are not uncommon in Sudan, where there is a large cultural gap between the mostly Muslim and Arab-oriented north and the mainly black and Christian south.
But Ms. Hussein has attracted attention by publicizing her case, inviting journalists to hearings and using it to campaign against dress codes sporadically imposed in the capital
The case was adjourned Wednesday as lawyers discussed whether her status as a UN employee gave her legal immunity.
After the hearing, defense lawyer Nabil Adib Abdalla said Hussein had agreed to resign from the United Nations in time for the next court session Aug. 4 to make sure the case continued.
“First of all she wants to show she is totally innocent, and using her immunity will not prove that,” Mr. Abdalla told reporters. “Second she wants to fight the law. The law is too wide. It needs to be reformed … This is turning into a test case. Human rights groups will be watching this closely.”
He said Ms. Hussein was ready to face the maximum penalty for the criminal offense of wearing indecent dress in public — 40 lashes and an unlimited fine.
Before the hearing, Ms. Hussein told Reuters she was arrested in early July when police raided a party at a restaurant in Khartoum’s Riyadh district.
“Thousands of women are punished with lashes in Sudan but they stay silent,” she said. “The law is being used to harass women and I want to expose this.” Continue Reading →

I met with the husband and father of the deceased and he was broke, unable to talk, he fell on the ground twice while people arranged a chair for him and I saw him weaping and crying like hell. I don’t think, there was any foul play and police investigation and autopsy results also suggest that.
This incident was a result of unfortunate neglect mostly on the part of mother as she took her young daughters to swimming pool while they did not know how to swim. She did not cried for help and jumped into the water to save daughters hence sealing the fate of all three (as she did not knew how to swim either). It is not clear that father knew that they were going to swimming pool. All of this happened in small window of time between 8:45 to 9:00 am. Hotels must provide supervision or least verbal warning to the going to the swimming pool. Placing a alarm system in the swimming pools will be a good idea too.
Eeyore- It is just mis understanding of the Islam and Islamic culture. Islam want women to preserve their dignity and wear modest dress. Islam doesn’t ban women from learning arts including swimming. West on the other hand has very different philosophy. Western philosophy has made a women an object rather than a being. No advertisement on the TV is successful without a women, where women body is used as a object for the temptation and it is not limited to advertisement, the whole porn industry reflects the same mentality. You can call it freedom and western values but some will believe that it is abuse of women dignity and her very being. We may disagree, so we can leave it on the individual to choose right path for herself.
No body can force his or her ideas on other in this country, so let the women make decision. If you can make joke of one’s hijab one can make joke of your nudity.
When you have the temerity to actually claim women are better off under Islam, you deserve to have that opinion read far and wide.

Lubna Ahmed al-Hussein, an angry Khartoum journalist who works for the UN in Sudan, has started a campaign against shariah law by elevating a local police matter into an international embarrassment: She’s invited the world to witness her judicial flogging, thus making her case part of the struggle between religious traditionalists and independent women — a struggle that now may encompass the quadruple murder that was revealed a world away, in Kingston, Ont., on Thursday.
In Khartoum, the General Discipline Police Authority patrols the streets, charged with maintaining shariah standards of public decency. Recently it raided a restaurant and arrested 13 women, including al-Hussein, for the crime of … wearing trousers.
Since 1991, that’s been a violation of the Sudanese criminal code. More precisely, it is classified as a violation of public morality. While erratically enforced, the rule is serious enough to carry a penalty of 40 lashes. Ten of the women arrested with al-Hussein pleaded guilty and received a reduced sentence of 10 lashes. But al-Hussein and two others demanded their day in court and al-Hussein decided to provoke a scandal by distributing 500 personal invitations to her trial. A woman has drowned and her two young daughters remain in serious condition after they were found, unresponsive, in a pool at a hotel in Gananoque, Ont., Saturday morning.
Toronto resident Naila Yasmin, 43, succumbed to her injuries in Kingston General Hospital early Sunday afternoon.
Gananoque Police reported her two daughters, aged 14 and 11, were still hospitalized in life-threatening condition.
A witness found the three in the pool at Gananoque’s Best Western Inn around 9 a.m. Saturday.
A spokeswoman said Best Western isn’t commenting on the incident, but said the hotel is co-operating with police.
Police say they don’t suspect foul play and aren’t ordering an autopsy to be performed, but a joint investigation between Gananoque Police and Ontario Provincial Police is ongoing.
Yep. Its a common thing for three women to suddenly all drown at the same time at public pools. Happens daily. Nothing to see here folks. Then there is this:
Mother, 2 daughters drown in hotel pool

A Toronto man and surviving family members are mourning the drowning deaths of his wife and two daughters in a hotel swimming pool.
Naila Yasmin, 43, was found floating face down in the deep end of the unsupervised pool at a Best Western hotel Sunday morning and her 11- and 14-year-old daughters were found floating in the pool’s shallow end.
The mother was declared dead at Kingston General Hospital that day, while the 14-year-old died Monday, followed by her 11-year-old sister Tuesday, the Toronto Star reported Wednesday.
Autopsies on the first two victims concluded death by drowning, and an autopsy was scheduled for the youngest child, Ontario Provincial Police said.
The OPP said none of the victims knew how to swim and foul play was not suspected.
The unidentified husband and father was having breakfast with his two sons in the hotel restaurant when the drownings occurred, the Star said.

A Toronto father is struggling to help his two sons cope with the loss of their mother and two sisters, who drowned in a hotel pool while vacationing in the eastern Ontario resort town of Gananoque.
“I don’t know how I will survive,” Muhammad Sana Ullah said Wednesday night, three days after the trio were found with no vital signs in the hotel pool. “I have lost the most important things.”
Naila Yasmin, 43, a wife and mother of four, died in hospital on Sunday. Her 14-year-old daughter, Kinza Kaianad, died Monday evening and 11-year-old Sunaila Kaianad died Tuesday afternoon. All died at Kingston General Hospital.
Autopsy results suggest that Yasmin and her daughters, described as “non-swimmers,” likely drowned in a 10-minute span on Sunday.
Meanwhile, Ullah and his two young sons — aged four and seven — were eating breakfast at the Best Western Country Squire Resort, where the Toronto family was staying during their vacation to the Thousand Islands.
Now the father said he is left to plan funeral arrangements.

‘Honour killings’ of females on rise in Canada: Expert

As many as 5,000 women and girls lose their lives — most at the hands of family members — in “honour killings” around the world each year, according to the United Nations.
Up to a dozen have died for the same reason in Canada in the last decade, and it’s happening more often, says Amin Muhammad, a psychiatrist who studies honour killings at Memorial University in Newfoundland.
“There are a number of organizations which don’t accept the idea of honour killing; they say it’s a Western-propagated myth by the media, but it’s not true,” he says. “Honour killing is there, and we should acknowledge it, and Canada should take it seriously.”
Kingston, Ont., police are now investigating that as a motive in the deaths of three teenage sisters and an older female relative who were found in a car submerged in the Rideau Canal in Kingston on June 30. The girls’ mother, father and brother were arrested on Wednesday and charged with first-degree murder.
“In our Canadian society, we value the cultural values of everyone that makes up this great country, and some of us have different core beliefs, different family values, different sets of rules,” Kingston Police Chief Stephen Tanner said at a news conference on Thursday. “Certainly, these individuals — in particular, the three teenagers — were Canadian teenagers who have all the freedom and rights of expression of all Canadians.”

‘Grooming’ of white girls in the UK as whores by ‘Asians’
To be as clear as humanly possible, these ‘Asians’ are NOT Chinese, Japanese or East Indian Hindus. These are Muslims, and ‘grooming’ in this case means threatening to murder their parents and families if they resist and torturing them if they fail to comply. Grooming is a pathetic word for what is going on here but what else can you expect from the UK these days as they all seem to be bent over for Islam. Want a good business?
