The Pakistani Taliban were behind the attempted bombing in New York’s Times Square, U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder said May 9, Reuters reported. Speaking on ABC television’s “This Week,” Holder said there is evidence of the Pakistani Taliban’s involvement but there was nothing to suggest the Pakistani government knew of the attempt. Holder said the administration is satisfied with the amount of cooperation the Pakistani government was giving in the investigation.

Times Square Evacuated After ‘Suspicious Package’ Report

Updated, 1:39 p.m. | The north end of Times Square has been evacuated, from West 44th to West 47th Streets, after the police received reports of a suspicious package at Broadway and West 46th Street at about 12:45 p.m.
The package “looks like a cooler,” a police spokesman said. “We’re trying to see if it’s clear.”
It was the second suspicious-package call and at least partial evacuation in the area today.
Following in the footsteps of the Times Square hawkers who spotted the illegally parked Nissan Pathfinder, another street vendor on hyper-alert reported a suspicious package Friday morning.
The vendor, Hassane Soliman Elbaz, 30, parked his silver cupcake cart at the northwest corner of 45th Street and Eighth Avenue around 5 a.m. Several hours later, he noticed a small black duffel bag near a trash bin. He reported the bag to a mounted police officer shortly after 9 a.m.
“Sometimes right, sometimes wrong,” Mr. Elbaz said. “Everybody has to be careful.”
Within 30 minutes, police officers cleared the area and brought in a bomb squad to check the bag.
They found a gray shirt, white tube socks, a toothbrush and pens.
The police deemed the bag not suspicious and left the scene before 11 a.m.
It was at least the seventh suspicious package brought to the attention of the police since the car bomb attempt on Saturday.
Mr. Elbaz, an immigrant from Egypt who lives in Jackson Heights, Queens, said he was relieved. It was only his second day running his Little Cupcake Lover cart. He sells coffee, bagels, croissants and other pastries in the morning before the red velvet, Oreo, Nutella mint and ocean-sprinkled cupcakes arrive.
He said the owners of the Chicken Bar, a lunch operation behind where he works, had given him a difficult time so far, but joked that not even a suspicious bag could have thwarted his business.
“Anything crazy can happen in New York,” Mr. Elbaz said as he dealt with a customer.

NEW YORK – Authorities arrested a suspect in the attempted weekend car bombing in Times Square, NBC News’ justice correspondent Pete Williams reported early Tuesday morning.
A U.S. citizen of Pakistani descent, Shahzad Faisal, was arrested Monday night on Long Island, Williams reported.
Earlier, an official told The Associated Press that the potential suspect recently traveled to Pakistan. The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because the case was at a sensitive stage.

Was EDL Aylesbury a Target Of Islamic Terrorism?

News of a ‘chemical spill’ in Aylesbury has been circulating around the Internet. I am not sure about how many chemical plants are located in proximity to the railway station but the media is reporting that there was a chemical spill there yesterday. What makes this ‘spill’ newsworthy is that it occurred on the same day and place as a controversial demonstration by the English Defence League (EDL) who spend their time standing up against Islamic extremism and sharia law. The activities of the EDL may therefore be of concern to Islamic fundamentalist types who are willing to resort to acts of terror to silence those who do not subscribe to the letter of their religious principles. So was this a simple chemical spill or was it in fact a botched act of terrorism against the EDL and those who are concerned about the way sharia is destroying true freedom in Great Britain?
The media seems to have a propensity to cover up anything that could put elements of the Muslim community in a bad light. Our Government is fond of responding to acts of terrorism by pumping vast sums of money into the Muslim community as a kind of tribute to the communities of those who are willing to resort to the most shocking and despicable tactics to promote and strengthen their cause. So can we truly believe reports that this was just a ‘chemical spill’ without any further explanation?
There are people who may think that this ‘spill’ is the result of a botched attempt to attack the EDL which, due to the presence of an inept and irresponsible Government is the actual last line of defence against Islamic fundamentalism in Great Britain. If the EDL was ‘knocked out’ of the struggle then perhaps the terrorists think they would have a free hand to manipulate our appeasement minded political leaders who fawn over Islamists and thereby secure a clear road to make sharia law the law of the land in Great Britain.
It is very unfortunate that ordinary people have cause to be concerned about the partiality of journalists in this supposedly democratic and free country. There are certainly journalists out there who need to do some serious research about Islamic theology, Islamic history, and the life of the so-called Islamic prophet Mohammed. Inevitably their biases and prejudices may prevent them from undertaking this basic duty of impartial journalism in this field. I read something that was supposedly an eye-witness account from Aylesbury that claimed to have seen something suspicious, the following is their account:
When i arrived at aylesbury train station for the demo,I like most people got searched.While i was being searched an asian looking man got searched leaving the staion,He had a bag full of bottles with different colour liquids (that were leaking) and a bag of strange colour powder.The police on seeing these items seemed to s**t themselves and backed off.I moved off the demo at that point. When i got there i was chatting to a bloke who also see this and he said the bloke with the chemicals got nicked,and there were whispers amongst the police about bomb materials and they have closed the station.
After the demo i headed back to the station and saw men in full Bio-Hazard suits cleaning up where the chemicals had spilt.I asked a copper what had happened and he said”you dont want to know”.
Make up your own mind in the absence of any further comment from the police or the media. When the media is believed to be distorting the truth then people let their own imaginations run riot. In my opinion though the police need to issue a statement that reveals the source of this ‘chemical’ that has caused all this concern and thereby put all our minds at rest one way or the other. It is vital that our Government and public bodies are fully open with the people of this country and do not sacrifice the truth to political expediency.

American officials declared that the failed car bomb that forced the evacuation of New York’s Times Square was an “act of terrorism.”

“Luckily, no one is hurt, and now the full attention of city, state and federal law enforcement will be turned to bringing the guilty party to justice in this act of terrorism,” New York Governor David Paterson said.
The bomb, which failed to detonate, was left in a sport utility vehicle close to a Broadway theatre where a production of The Lion King was showing.
It contained three propane tanks, fireworks, two five gallon gasoline containers, two clocks with batteries, electrical wires and a 4ft by 2ft metal box.
The dark green Nissan Pathfinder with tinted windows was parked near the junction of 45th Street and Broadway.
The location is also adjacent to the Viacom building, fuelling speculation that it might be linked to the company’s controversial South Park cartoon which recently depicted Prophet Muhammad in a bear suit. Continue Reading →
STRATFOR: Car Bomb Found In Manhattan
Police found an explosive device inside a sports utility vehicle parked in New York City’s Times Square on May 1, AP reported. Police discovered the device when smoke was seen coming from the car at about 6:30 p.m. local time, and a bomb team reportedly found propane tanks, powder and what is believed to be a timer inside the vehicle. A man was reportedly spotted fleeing the car, and officers at the scene said the incident is under investigation but the vehicle’s contents are being treated as a “failed device.” Several blocks surrounding the car have been evacuated.

NEW YORK –An apparent failed car bomb in a vehicle that was smoking and emitted a small “flash” caused police to evacuate New York’s Times Square as bomb specialists worked to dismantle the device on Saturday night, Broadway’s busiest night.
“This appears to be a car bomb that the bomb squad is in the process of dismantling,” New York Police Department spokesman Paul Browne said. “We do not know the motive.”
Browne said an NYPD mounted policeman spotted a box smoking in the back of the Nissan Pathfinder sport utility vehicle and that the popular tourist destination in the heart of Manhattan’s Midtown was evacuated shortly after that.
A police source who asked not to be named said the device was a car bomb and it included three tanks of propane and two canisters of gasoline. He said police had not fully cleared the Pathfinder.
He would not say whether the incident was being treated as an act of terrorism.
New York authorities have remained on high alert for another attack since the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks in which hijacked airliners toppled the World Trade Center’s twin towers.

KABUL – More than 80 schoolgirls have fallen ill in three cases of mass sickness over the past week in northern Afghanistan, raising fears that militants who oppose education for girls are using poison to scare them away from school.
The latest case occurred Sunday when 13 girls became sick at school, Kunduz provincial spokesman Mahbobullah Sayedi said. Another 47 complained of dizziness and nausea on Saturday, and 23 got sick last Wednesday. All complained of a strange smell in class before they fell ill.
None of the illnesses have been serious, and medical officials were still investigating the exact cause. The Health Ministry in Kunduz said blood samples were inconclusive and were being sent to Kabul for further testing.
Sayedi blamed the sickness on “enemies” who oppose education for girls. Presidential spokesman Waheed Omar said any attempt to keep girls out of school is a “terrorist act.” Continue Reading →

Chechen militant leader Doku Umarov said in a video posted on Kavkaz Center Web site and YouTube on March 31 that he personally ordered the two suicide bombings in Moscow, BBC reported. Umarov, leader of the Islamist militants in Russia’s North Caucasus and self-proclaimed head of the “Caucasus Emirate,” described the attacks as special operations to “eliminate infidels and greet the Russian Federal Security Service.”

Tehran on path to our destruction

STAND by for some bad news. No, I mean really bad news. The world is not going to apply crippling sanctions to Iran. Even if it did, Iran would not be deterred from developing nuclear weapons. The only way that Iran can be significantly delayed in its pursuit of nuclear weapons is through an Israeli air strike on its nuclear facilities.
I think the chances of an Israeli attack are somewhat less than 50-50. Even with an air strike, the likelihood is you would delay
rather than prevent Iran getting nuclear weapons. Don’t get me wrong, a delay is much better than no delay, but the balance of probabilities is that Iran will ultimately have a nuclear arsenal.
Even sanctions would only have an outside chance of working. But the world is not even going to try them. China, and to a lesser extent Russia, are going to make sure that doesn’t happen. This is a tragedy far beyond Copenhagen, but like Copenhagen it illustrates the complete breakdown of the multilateral system.
The US could strike Iran’s nuclear facilities far more effectively than Israel could, but to do so would be foreign to every instinct of the Obama administration.
It would also be hugely risky. But the risks of not acting are even greater. Nonetheless, the portents are strong that the Obama administration will dither.
More than 12 months ago, just after his inauguration, Obama said: “If countries like Iran are willing to unclench their fist, they will find an extended hand from us.” Since then Obama has done everything an American president could possibly do to engage and entice Iran. He has made countless statements about the genius of Persian civilisation, the wonders of Islam as a religion, the sweetness of the Iranian people, the potential reasonableness of the Iranian government. And in response he has received contemptuous game playing from the Iranians. I come to my conclusion that Iran will ultimately get nuclear weapons with great reluctance, but it follows ineluctably from the facts. Consider the main players: Iran, the US, China, the UN, Russia, Israel. First Iran. There is really no doubt that Iran has a program designed to produce nuclear weapons.
Recently President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s government announced that Iran had enriched uranium to 20 per cent and would build a slew of new nuclear fuel plants. This is a fundamental step along the road to nuclear weapons. It represents one of the critical technical hurdles.
A White House spokesman said Iran was bluffing about the level of its uranium enrichment. This is surely a unique case of Iran claiming its nuclear threat is greater than the White House claims. Believe who you will.
Iran has been determined to acquire nuclear weapons for a long time. It is, as US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton describes it, something of a military dictatorship, with the Revolutionary Guard assuming more and more power. It is still also, however, a theocratic dictatorship. The purpose of the state is to serve theological ends.
Most Western analysts refuse to take Islamic religion seriously as a factor in geopolitics, assuming there must always be a rational national-interest explanation for any state’s behaviour. Continue Reading →
Canadian Nuclear Physicist vanishes without a trace
Whatever you may think of the X-files as a TV show, one of the characters had a solid point when he said:
“Nothing vanishes without a trace”.
It should be added, that rare earth isotopes factor into bomb design as well. Making a bomb is more than just refining U238 into high concentration of U235. Also, plutonium weapons require rare and complex isotopes for the trigger mechanisms, the exact part that Iran is said to be making now.

Canadian nuclear scientist Lachlan Cranswick has been missing since mid-January.
A Canadian nuclear scientist who has not been seen for more than a month has simply vanished, leaving “absolutely no trace at all,” police say.
Lachlan Cranswick, 41, a physicist from the Chalk River Laboratories nuclear facility in Ottawa, was last seen on Jan. 18, when he left his job and boarded a bus to Deep River, his hometown along the Ottawa River with a population of roughly 4,300.
Later that day, or possibly the next morning, Cranswick took out the garbage — and the single man described as a meticulous loner has not been seen since.
“It is open and there is nothing else we can do with it,” said Const. Darin Faris, the Deep River police officer conducting the investigation. “Every bit of information, every lead that came in, everything … has led us nowhere.”
Faris said Cranswick’s friends notified police of his disappearance six days after he was last seen, leading to fruitless searches of a 9-mile-long stretch of land along the Ottawa River. Helicopters, tracking dogs and civilians were unable to find a trace of the man.
Faris said investigators have no reason to believe Cranswick was targeted or that he was a victim of a crime.
“It’s not like he’s a reactor designer or that he knows how to use them,” Faris told FoxNews.com. “He’s not someone who, if you gave him highly enriched uranium, he could make a bomb. He’s not that kind of person.”
Investigators at first thought Cranswick had gotten lost while walking along several nearby trails, but every item he typically took on those trips — at least two flashlights, a whistle and a GPS system — was found in his unlocked home, along with his wallet, keys and passport.
“We don’t believe he got lost,” Faris said. “He’s meticulous in all points of detail.”
Faris acknowledged the possibility that Cranswick lost his way and fell through ice on the Ottawa River, or perhaps he was attacked by a wolf, coyote or bear, but investigators have found no evidence to support those theories.
“The average person would come to the conclusion — it’s not a good feeling,” he said. “There’s absolutely no evidence either way. There’s absolutely no trace at all.”
Daniel Banks, a colleague of Cranswick’s at Chalk River Laboratories, said he saw no change in Cranswicks’ demeanor prior to his disappearance.
“There was no indication he was going anywhere,” Banks said. “Everyone has said that he seemed normal, especially during the time leading up to the disappearance.”
Cranswick, an avid curler, specialized in conducting experiments in structural chemistry and Earth sciences, Banks said.

CBN News has learned exclusively that five Muslim soldiers at Fort Jackson in South Carolina were arrested just before Christmas. It is unclear whether the men are still in custody. The five were part of the Arabic Translation program at the base.
The men are suspected of trying to poison the food supply at Fort Jackson.
A source with intimate knowledge of the investigation, which is ongoing, told CBN News investigators suspect the “Fort Jackson Five” may have been in contact with the group of five Washington, DC area Muslims that traveled to Pakistan to wage jihad against U.S. troops in December. That group was arrested by Pakistani authorities, also just before Christmas.
Coming as it does on the heels of November’s Fort Hood jihadist massacre, this news has major implications.

Army Investigates Alleged Attempt by Soldiers to Poison Food at Fort Jackson

The U.S. Army is investigating allegations that soldiers were attempting to poison the food supply at Fort Jackson in South Carolina.
The ongoing probe began two months ago, Chris Grey, a spokesman for the Army’s Criminal Investigation Division, told Fox News.
The Army is taking the allegations “extremely seriously,” Grey said, but so far, “there is no credible information to support the allegations.”
Five suspects, detained in December, were part of an Arabic translation program called “09 Lima” and use Arabic as their first language, two sources told Fox News. Another military source said they were Muslim. It wasn’t clear whether they were still being held.
Grey would not confirm or deny the sources’ information.

Saying that body scanners violate Islamic law, Muslim-American groups are supporting a “fatwa” – a religious ruling – that forbids Muslims from going through the scanners at airports.
The Fiqh Council of North America – a body of Islamic scholars that includes some from Michigan – issued a fatwa this week that says going through the airport scanners would violate Islamic rules on modesty.
“It is a violation of clear Islamic teachings that men or women be seen naked by other men and women,” reads the fatwa issued Tuesday. “Islam highly emphasizes haya (modesty) and considers it part of faith. The Quran has commanded the believers, both men and women, to cover their private parts.”
The decision could complicate efforts to intensify screening of potential terrorists who are Muslim. After the Christmas Day bombing attempt in Detroit by a Muslim suspect from Nigeria, some have called for the use of body scanners at airports to find explosives and other dangerous materials carried by terrorists. Some airports are now in the process of buying and using the body scanners, which show in graphic detail the outlines of a person’s body.
But Muslim groups say the scanners go against their religion. One option offered to passengers who don’t want to use the scanners would be a pat down by a security guard. The Muslim groups are urging members to undergo those instead.
Two members of the Fiqh Council are from Michigan, Imam Hassan Qazwini of the Islamic Center of America in Dearborn, and Imam Ali Suleiman Ali of the Canton Mosque. “Fiqh” means Islamic jurisprudence.
The Council on American-Islamic Relations, which has a chapter in Michigan, says it endorses the fatwa.
“We support the Fiqh Council’s statement on full-body scanners and believe that the religious and privacy rights of passengers can
be respected while maintaining safety and security,” said Nihad Awad, national executive director of CAIR.
Currently, there are 40 full-body scanners at 19 airports in the U.S., including two of them in Detroit, said spokesman Jim Fotenos of the Transportation Security Administration (TSA). There are plans for 450 more body scanners in U.S. airports, he said.
In a statement, the TSA said it is committed to keeping passengers safe and also protecting their privacy.
“TSA’s mission is to keep the traveling public safe. Advanced imaging technologies are an important tool in a multi-layered security system to detect evolving threats such as improvised explosive devices. TSA’s use of these technologies includes strong protections in place to safeguard passenger privacy. Screening images are automatically deleted, and the officer viewing the image will never see the passenger.”
The TSA stressed that the body scanners are “optional to all passengers.” Those who turn them down, “will receive equivalent screening that may include a physical pat-down, hand-wanding, and other technologies. Physical pat-downs are performed by Transportation Security Officers of the same sex as the passenger in a private screening area, if the passenger requests.”
Body scanners “do not produce photos,” the agency said. Rather, the images “look like chalk outlines.”

Fiqh Council advises Muslims on Islamic law
The Fiqh Council is based in Plainfield, Ind., where it is affiliated with the Islamic Society of North America (ISNA) and advises Muslims on sharia, or Islamic law.
An earlier version of the group started in the 1960s with the Muslim Students Association of the United States and Canada. The chairman of the Fiqh Council is Muzammil Siddiqi, religious director of the Islamic Society of Orange County in California and former president of ISNA.
In its fatwa, the council said the use of body scanners “is against the teachings of Islam, natural law.”
