Taliban commander turns self in… for reward on ‘Wanted’ poster

I have always wondered if this would work…

Sometimes, capturing a Taliban commander requires vast resources and complex operations. Last week in eastern Afghanistan, it required neither.
The wanted poster for Mohammad Ashan.

Mohammad Ashan, a mid-level Taliban commander in Paktika province, strolled toward a police checkpoint in the district of Sar Howza with a wanted poster bearing his own face. He demanded the finder’s fee referenced on the poster: $100.

Afghan officials, perplexed by the man’s misguided motives, arrested him on the spot. Ashan is suspected of plotting at least two attacks on Afghan security forces. His misdeeds prompted officials to plaster the district with hundreds of so-called “Be on the Lookout” posters emblazoned with his name and likeness.

If only someone could un-write the various bibles. I suppose the only redeeming feature is that they only want to stop practicing Jews from having any fun and presumably leaving the rational people alone. However its probably a safe bet that if they had enough political power they would enforce the prohibition on anything they think god wants on everyone like most religious fanatics. Makes one wonder. If god was so powerful, why he doesn’t do this stuff himself.

(ANSAmed) – JERUSALEM – Today’s abundant snowfall in Jerusalem and many high altitude areas of the West Bank and Galilee has – for the first time in years – forced rabbis to go back to studying the prohibitions required by the case, to help practicing Jews avoid involuntarily breaking the rules of Orthodoxy. Above all else, these rabbis have reminded the population, on the basis of the teachings of the medieval philosopher Maimonides, that Jews are prohibited from making snowmen as they are not allowed to create anything in the likeness of man in order to avoid slipping into idolatry. A difficulty has arisen today in that the snowfall has occurred on a Friday, therefore shortly before the Jewish day of rest in which Jews are prohibited from any activity other than prayer.

Starting at sundown and for the entire day of Saturday, practicing Jews will therefore not be allowed to make snowballs.

Whether throwing snowballs tomorrow made today is permitted is the object of discussion among rabbis, who hold different approaches to the matter. Tomorrow, in observance of the sabbatical day of rest, Orthodox Jews will have to abstain from shaking off their coats on which snow has accumulated. The instructions given are to let it melt by itself. As concerns the removal of snow piled up in front of houses, Orthodox rabbis have shown themselves to be more open, since – they say – it would be unreasonable to oblige people to stay out of their homes until the mantle of snow melts.(ANSAmed).

Controls on import of food and toys offensive to Islam on FNC agenda

Is it possible that beyond the absurdity of Muslim-offensive-toy patrols, someone in the Islamic world is adding nicotine to children’s candy, presumably to make sales go through the roof? That looks like an interesting story.

ABU DHABI // Greater border controls are needed to prevent toys offensive to Islam from entering the country, according to an FNC member.

Dr Mohamed Musallam bin Ham (Abu Dhabi) is expecting the Minister of Economy, Sultan Al Mansouri, to respond to his concerns at the council’s session today. He is also questioning controls on food imports after 18 children fell ill in Umm Al Quwain after ingesting nicotine contained in what they believed were sweets.

Dr bin Ham believes there has been an increase recently in the amount of offensive toys being sold to children.

He said he had seen a number of toys that featured offensive writing and drawings. He gave the example of toy guns found being sold in Dibba last year which, when fired, voiced insults concerning the Prophet’s wife, Aisha.

Such toys, he warned, were harming the upbringing of the nation’s children.

It’s Official! Islam Is Not A Race.

I’m on a stack of mailing lists, as well as twitter for fun and education.

One of those is for the Council of American-Islamic Relations, which would probably be better named as the Council of American/Islamic Re-education.

I don’t read them every day, as there are simply not enough hours in the day for that while still working, sleeping, pretending to do housework and most importantly indoctrinating bringing up the next generation of nilknarfs.

This one is important, though, because as someone who routinely gets labelled as a racist, it’s nice to get a bit of validation from the Other Side.

Iran preparing now for Armageddon

Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has held several secret meetings with his economic and military advisers in recent days to prepare for the possibility of war with the United States.

Sources report the preparations are to include the execution of those Iranians who oppose the regime.

Khamenei has been heard to say that the coming of the last Islamic Messiah, the Shiites’ 12th Imam Mahdi, is near and that specific actions need to be taken to protect the Islamic regime for upcoming events.

Mahdi, according to Shiite belief, will reappear at the time of Armageddon.

Selected forces within the Revolutionary Guards and Basij reportedly have been trained under a task force called “Soldiers of Imam Mahdi” and they will bear the responsibility of security and protecting the regime against uprisings. Many in the Guards and Basij have been told that the 12th Imam is on earth, facilitated the victory of Hezbollah over Israel in the 2006 war and soon will announce publicly his presence after the needed environment is created.

Radical Muslim group to launch TV station

The Islamic Central Council of Switzerland (ICCS) has announced plans to set up an internet TV channel, while it is also in talks with various companies to provide its members with a Swiss-Muslim discount card.

 

The new TV studios, due to become operational this summer, will play host to a political show, a weekly series on a range of topics seen from a Muslim perspective, and a sermon series, newspaper SonntagsZeitung reports. Sermons are to be given mainly in German, but also in Arabic, Bosnian and Albanian. German subtitles will also be available.

The ICCS is also working towards providing its members with a card that will give discounts of up to 15 percent at a variety of outlets including fitness centres, restaurants and shops.

Health insurance fund Helsana has also confirmed that it is in talks with the organization to give discounts to ICCS members. ICCS president, Nicolas Blancho, is expecting Helsana to give a reduction of 10 percent on insurance premiums, Tages Anzeriger reported on Sunday.

The ICCS is considered by many experts to be a fundamentalist organization, but according to the Tages Anzeiger there is discontent brewing among its members over the leadership style. Blancho in particular is facing criticism for not practising what he preaches.

Council members who do not positively endorse new articles appearing on social media sites such as Facebook would face disciplinary action if they fail to click “like” within 24 hours of the article being posted by the ICCS, Sonntags Zeitung reported.

Iranian cleric calls Facebook ‘un-Islamic’, membership a ‘sin’

17 million Iranians have a Facebook account, despite heavy restrictions and filtering imposed by the government.

An Iranian ayatollah has said that the social networking service Facebook was un-Islamic and being a member of it a sin, the ISNA news agency reported Saturday.

In Iran, it is common for senior clerics to be asked about their stance on certain social issues and whether these issues are compatible with Islamic norms.

Their answers are regarded as a form of decree.

ISNA on Saturday broadcast coverage of the response of Ayatollah Lotfollah Safi-Golpaygani, a senior cleric, to the question about Facebook and Iranian membership in the social networking service.

“Basically, going to any website which propagates immoralities and could weaken the religious belief is un-Islamic and not allowed, and membership in it is therefore haram (a sin),” the ayatollah replied.

A Muslim man who punched a nurse for trying to remove his wife’s burqa during childbirth has been jailed in France.

Nassim Mimoune, 24, had already been expelled from the delivery room for branding the midwife a ‘rapist’ as she carried out an intimate examination of his wife.

Then through a window he spotted the nurse taking off his wife’s burqa as she prepared to give birth.

He smashed open the locked door and hit the woman in the face, demanding she replace the full Islamic face veil.

As his wife delivered a baby boy, Mimoune was ejected from the building by security men from the hospital in Marseille and arrested for assault.

A judge in the southern French port jailed Mimoune for six months on Wednesday, telling him: ‘Your religious values are not superior to the laws of the republic.’

But when those stupid people and their stupid beliefs are in positions of genuine influence, then its better to know what they say then not see it coming. Much like a piano rolling down a hill at you. Its absurd but better to know its there.

At the same time, this is a kind of explanation as to why Muslims think women should cover their faces. Koran says something about, ‘women should hide that which Allah has hidden’. Well as women are born naked I figure that means anything goes. But in the minds of some Muslim religious leaders…

Muslim Cleric’s Warning: Cucumbers Too Sexy for Women

Actually I think these clerics are right on this issue, or at least I understand it. But not because I think that these ‘suggestive’ vegetables would make Muslim men feel inadequate about their genitals. I have never seen the genitals of Muslim men so I wouldn’t have any idea. But I have debated quite a few of them and I can see how certain kinds of vegetables might make Muslim men and triply so, muslim clerics feel mentally inadequate as a cucumber or banana is nearly infinitely more likely to put up a cogent argument about it’s cosmology.

An Islamic cleric living in Europe reportedly has warned Muslim women not to get too close to bananas, cucumbers or other produce — to avoid having “sexual thoughts.”

The unnamed cleric, whose directive was featured in an article in el-Senousa, a religious publication, purportedly said that if women wanted to eat these foods, a third party — preferably a male related to them, such as their father or husband — should cut the items into small pieces before serving, the Egyptian website Bikya Masr reported.

Carrots and zucchini also were added to the alleged cleric’s list of forbidden foods for women.

News of the statement quickly spread online, leaving many liberal Muslims embarrassed and angry, evoking a flurry of mockery in online forums.

“Many of the commentators are Muslims themselves, who have expressed their anger against the cleric for making Islamic religious practices appear unreasonable,” The International Business Times reported.

BikyaMasr.com said the cleric, identified only as a sheikh, was asked in the interview how to “control” women when they are shopping for groceries, and whether holding these items at the market would be bad, to which he replied that the matter was between them and God.

Questions also arose about the validity of the original published interview. An online search for the el-Senousa article, for instance, yields only results linking to the Bikya Masr report.

But the mere suggestion of a strict order for Muslim women handling food has been enough to send people to website forums and Twitter to air their indignation.

Danish/Lebanese journalist Helen Hajjij tweeted on Wednesday: “So if Muslim women should stay away from cucumbers and bananas, should men stay away from melons?”
