More strong evidence of bias in the Geert Wilders trial.

Hirsch Ballin was consulted over a trial

Outgoing Minister Ernst  Hirsch Ballin (Justice) has, from a very early stage, been personally involved in the decision making on whether or not to prosecute Geert Wilders.

This is evidenced by internal e-mail correspondence from 2008, between the public prosecutor’s office in The Hague (the top of the OM) and the public prosecutor in Amsterdam.

The information has quite some piquancy, because in our country the justice minister habitually keeps the necessary distance to prevent exposing the OM to changing political influences. In addition, with this information a different light is shed on the role of Hirsch Ballin as one of the fiercest CDA opponents of tolerating the support Wilders’ PVV [to a new coalition govenrment].

On March 14, 2008, the prosecutor-general and the prosecutor in Amsterdam emailed each other on the advise of Rick Lawson, professor of European Law at the University of Leiden. Lawson was asked by the OM for a mapping on whether prosecuting of Wilders would have a chance. On the last page of his ten pages analysis, Lawson concludes that it is “well-founded to prosecute Wilders”.

This opinion was, with both prosecutors, received with cheers, as can be  established form the email correspondence: “What a superb piece!!!!” And: “Monday there will be a meeting with the Minister of Justice about this advise. We will try with all we can to provide as much input as possible to Harm Brouwer (OM chief, ed) for this conversation. Everything is welcome.”

Wilders’ lawyer Bram Moszkowicz is stunned by the internal information. “From this it shows that not only that at the highest ministerial level there has been spoken of the possible prosecution of my client, but moreover that there has been a matter of substantive political involvement in the decision to prosecute.”

Despite Lawson’s analysis, the prosecutor decided not to prosecute Wilders. The court however, later still ordered to do so.

According to a spokeswoman for OM, there is nothing strange about the involvement of Hirsch Ballin. “It is very common for the OM in cases with a social impact, to discusses and exchanges views with the minister. He is politically responsible for the OM and is regularly called to Parliament to explain why things will or will not be prosecuted. ALso when it concerns a prominent politician. The law provided that if the Minister disagrees with the OM, he may give a directive on how to still act otherwise, what in this case has not happened.”

Why MacKay was right to uninvite the imam

We are known, it is said, by the company we keep. If so, it is worthwhile to consider the recent controversy surrounding Defence Minister Peter MacKay’s cancellation of a speech by a prominent Muslim imam at the department’s Ottawa headquarters.

The minister was verbally shelled last Friday after revoking an invitation for Zijad Delic, the national executive direct of the Canadian Islamic Congress and the former imam the Jami’a Mosque in Richmond, B.C., to speak at a forum marking Islamic History Month in Ottawa.
MacKay’s decision “shattered any hopes” Muslims had in the political process, critics said. He displayed “knee-jerk intolerance” by caving into right-wing Christian zealots, said others.

Not everyone agrees with this judgment, including some Muslims. Salma Siddiqui, vice-president of the Muslim Congress of Canada, “strongly welcomed” MacKay’s decision, not only for exposing the fraud of Islamic History Month but also for acting in the best interests of national security.
“In the past few years we have seen so-called Islamic History Month turned into a propaganda machine for Islamists who want to introduce Shariah law and who wish to hide behind the cover of teaching history to infiltrate the highest levels of government in Ottawa,” Siddiqui said.
So, who’s right, the CIC or the MCC? Is the CIC genuinely committed to Canadian values as its leaders, including Delic, claim? Or do some of them, as Siddiqui implies, actually promote Islamist doctrine, even to the point of engaging in a campaign of taqiyya, or “holy deception,” whereby Canadians eventually accept Shariah?
Consider some of the evidence. One of MacKay’s reasons for cancelling Delic’s invitation was, according to spokesman Jay Paxton, because of the “extremist views promulgated by the Canadian Islamic Congress.” Continue Reading →

It comes just weeks after France banned the wearing of burkas and other forms of face veils – a decision which prompted al Qaeda terrorists to vow revenge.

It has been a long time coming, but at least reason seems to have taken root in an EU MP, of course its UKIP, a reasonable party to begin with, but at least it is someone at the EU saying the blindingly obvious, which history shows, is a dangerous act to power at pretty much any time.

Day 3 of the wilders trial and this judge shows some bias.

I am not a lawyer, and neither am I familiar with the Dutch legal system. But clearly one can see from the proceedings so far that there are laws on the books in Dutch legal codes that a judge may not be biased before the evidence is seen. Here in this segment of day 3 of the trial, I have a very hard time believing the judge’s very weak attempt to cover up his clear bias when questioned by Geert’s lawyer on why it is understandable that the plaintiff would not want to view Geert’s movie Fitna.

The Tundra Tabloids and it’s regular readers already know just how much a freedom lover and hero Lars Vilks actually is, plus he does it all with the twist of humor and irony. The man, as well as his Danish colleague, Kurt Westergaard, are at the forefront of defending the very basic of all Western civilization freedoms, free speech.

The TT defended free speech in a confrontation with the OIC’s Secretary-General, Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, and does so on a daily basis on this blog, but those who put their lives on the line, stand head and shoulders above the rest, and deserves our utmost respect, no matter how some of their views may differ from your own.

FrontPageMag has an interesting story about Lars Vilks, during his tour in America with Lars Hedegaard from Denmark, which merits a thorough reading. If you read and saw the interview the TT did with Lars Vilks, you then already know Vilks’ philosophy about art, in how it’s to be understood. Art isn’t art because someone puts a pencil to paper or a brush to a canvas, it only becomes ‘art’ once its viewed by anyone else and is reacted to.

FPM“Amusingly, Lars Vilks experiences the entire episode of this controversy as “process art.” To understand this vision, imagine a pebble being dropped into a still pool of water.  The pebble drop is the instigating event, in this case, Vilk’s offending illustration; the concentric circles radiate outward in a ripple effect, representing all that we are experiencing throughout the world as a result.  Vilks takes it all in, an actor in a morality play of his own design.  His next project, he claims, is to make a Fred Astaire-style musical out of it all.

Today the trial against Geert Wilders continued with the same judges The trial day started with a screening of Fitna.

Before the screening we already had the first incident, a woman (plaintiff) asked if she could leave the room. She did not want to see Fitna she declared. The president of the court answers:

Wilder lawyer complained, he could not believe what he just had heard (again a value statement of the court).

Comic on the return of Mohamed

I have no idea who did this or where they are. It was sent to me out of the blue, and frankly, I do not post stuff merely because it offends Islamic sensabilities. Ok now and again yes I do if Muslims have just killed a lot of people in the name of Islam, or if they have done something to curtail freedom of speech in a Western liberal democracy.

But this passed my test which is specifically, ‘does it make me laugh out loud at least a couple of times.’

I hope you enjoy. Part II will be posted tomorrow and III on Friday. And good news. There is something to offend everyone in todays instalments. Except Sam Raimi as this artist made Mohamed look a lot like the cover of the book in his movie, The Evil Dead, one of my favourite films.
