Thanks Quickgate for sending me this video. These all seem like really nice people. And they give one hope that a good outcome is possible. At the end of a day like today, it is really good to see a number of people from Muslim countries and families that managed to free themselves and speak out for the best attributes of mankind.

US blocks UN condemnation of ‘Jewish settlements’
Israel Today:

The US on Wednesday prevented the UN Security Council from voting on and adopting a resolution that condemned all Jewish communities in Judea, Samaria and on the eastern side of Jerusalem as “illegal.”
The resolution was submitted by Lebanon, but was clearly drafted by the Palestinian Authority. The Palestinians have been threatening for months now to seek UN condemnation of Israeli “settlement activity,” a step they hoped would open the way to UN recognition of a unilateral declaration of independence in Judea and Samaria.
The resolution referred to Judea and Samaria (including eastern Jerusalem) as “Palestinian territory,” and insisted that the presence of Jews there is “illegal and constitutes a major obstacle to the achievement of a just, lasting and comprehensive peace.”
It demanded that Israel forbid all Jewish construction in theses areas in preparation for their surrender to the Palestinian Authority, which would be followed by an ethnic cleansing of all Jews currently living there.
The US representative at the meeting expressed strong opposition to the resolution, and said the Israeli-Palestinian conflict can only be solved via direct negotiations between the two sides. Because of the US opposition, the parties behind the resolution knew it was pointless to call for a vote on the matter.
Israeli government spokesman Mark Regev followed up the US objections by reminding the Associated Press that the Palestinians “have made a series of commitments that all the issues of dispute between us and them should be resolved in direct negotiations.”
By taking this unilateral route, the Palestinians are once again breaking their commitments, said Regev.
It should also be noted that the resolution was an attempt to further solidify the Arab position that Judea and Samaria are “Palestinian territories” that must eventually be returned. The truth is that no sovereign Palestinian entity has ever existed there, but sovereign Jewish entities have.
At best, the areas must be described as “disputed territories,” since both sides have some degree of historical and legal claims. But the Arabs and the UN are constantly trying to rewrite the narrative of the peace process to make it appear that Israel is defiantly holding the lands of a foreign entity.
Now a Danish Defence League.
Denmark is probably the country in Europe that needs it the least. But clearly that doesn’t mean they do not need one. Lets hope they are as honest and genuine as the British one is.

On January 19, 2011, on the first year anniversary of the Naga Hammadi rally, another rally was held in Martin Place. This protest was organized by Australian Coptic Movement (ACM) in conjunction with the Coptic Orthodox Diocese of Sydney and its Affiliated Regions.
The objective of this rally was to protest the recent Alexandrian bombings. In this latest attack against Christians, official numbers report 23 died and 87 were injured; making this incident the single worst attack against Christians in a decade, one of three in less than 12 months and one of hundreds committed over 39 years.
This protest saw thousands of people from all suburbs of Sydney and walks of life, attend, despite the bad weather. Copts, Melkites, Assyrians, Catholics and those of other denominations and faiths were some of the few who attended.
Also in attendance were dignitaries from different parties and different backgrounds, who braved the morning showers and who were able to attend despite the ongoing floods in Queensland and Victoria – underscoring the importance of our protest and the fact that we are all Australians and that Copts are Australian before they are Egyptian.
Those in attendance included, Senator Concetta Firravanti–Wells, the Senator for NSW and who was sent as a representative on behalf of the Hon. Mr. Tony Abbott MP, the Federal Opposition leader. Also in attendance was Greg Donnelly MLC, representing NSW Premier, Kristina Kenneally.
Additionally, the Hon. Craig Kelly MP, Liberal member for Hughes, the very Rev. Fred Nile MLC, president of the Christian Democratic Party and the Hon. David Clarke MLC, parliamentary secretary of the NSW Shadow Attorney – General.
After the aforementioned guests delivered the impassioned and much appreciated speeches, the protestors travelled from Martin Place to the Department of Foreign Affairs and Tradin (DFAT), on Pitt Street. Continue Reading →
Christian Copts protest Egypt in Australia.
The chants are heart warming. Reality forces it’s way to the surface at last. They do not call for an end to ‘extremism’ or any other euphemism. Best heard in the second video

STRATFOR: South Korea: Government Ordered To Resolve Issue Over Hijacked Freighter
January 16, 2011 Stratfor:
South Korean President Lee Myung Bak on Jan. 16 instructed his government to take all possible measures to resolve the hijacking of the Samho Jewelry, an 11,500-ton South Korean chemical freighter that was seized by Somali pirates in the Arabian Sea on Jan. 15, presidential aides said, Yonhap reported. The Samho Jewelry, carrying 21 crewmembers, was en route to Sri Lanka from the United Arab Emirates when it was hijacked in waters between Oman and India. The Choi Young, a 4,500-ton destroyer belonging to South Korea’s Cheonghae unit, has set sail toward the Samho Jewelry and is expected to reach the waters where it was hijacked within two days, according to sources in Seoul.
Canadian Stations Defy ‘Money For Nothing’ Ban
From Radio Ink:
January 14, 2011: The Canadian Broadcast Standards Council this week ruled that broadcasters that play the unedited version of Dire Straits’ “Money for Nothing” are violating radio’s code of ethics. But NewCap’s K-97 in Edmonton, AB, begs to differ, and is spending the 8-9 p.m. hour this evening playing “Money for Nothing” nonstop and unedited — that is, complete with three instances of “faggot,” the word that got the 25-year-old record banned as offensive.
A note on the K-97 website provides a link to e-mail the CBSC and says, “Earlier this week the CBSC ruled that the song ‘Money For Nothing’ has violated broadcasting decency standards because of the use of the word ‘faggot.’ The Dire Straits song was originally released in 1985 and has since aired tens of thousands of times across Canada, has won a Grammy and has been performed by GLBT supporter Elton John. If you listen to the context of the term, you will realize it is an artistic portrayal of a bigoted person looking at the riches and excess of the music industry.”
The statement continues, “While some of K-97’s content may be controversial, we respect the right to free speech for all Canadians and songwriters.”
K-97 OM Patrick Cardinal told the Toronto Sun, “In terms of our listeners, they absolutely support our right to play this song and the right to hear it in its entirety. If we get a CBSC complaint about this, we will vigilantly defend our right to play this song.”
NewCap sister station Q104/Halifax, NS, meanwhile, will spend the 9-10 p.m. hour on a “Money for Nothing Marathon.” The hour will be hosted by Q104 PD JC Douglas, joined by members of the LGBT community in “supporting the freedom of artistic integrity,” according to a statement on the station website. Douglas said, “Context is everything in this case. We believe that this [CBSC]decision may trivialize the meaningful work done to further the cause of the LGBT community and could actually work against them by creating a sense of excessive political correctness at the cost of the fundamental freedom of speech.”
Angst about Islamist groups goes mainstream in Germany
By Kirsten Grieshaber The Washington Post:
Sunday, January 9, 2011
MOENCHENGLADBACH, GERMANY – The 200 robed and bearded men gathered at dusk on the market square, rolled out their prayer rugs and intoned Allah’s praises as dismayed townspeople looked on.
It was Ramadan, the Muslim fasting month, and the group that calls itself Invitation to Paradise was mounting a defiant response to weeks of public protests against plans to construct a religious school to teach its austere, militant interpretation of Islam.
In Germany, where the racial crimes of the Nazis have bred extreme sensitivity toward the rights of minorities, such confrontations would until recently have been limited to the far-right margins. But the weekly rallies in this city of 250,000 near the Dutch border these days look decidedly mainstream.
It’s part of a trend seen across Europe. Spooked by what many see as a terrorism threat, ordinary people are becoming increasingly vocal in opposing radical Muslims. They are ditching traditions of tolerance and saying no to cultures that do not share their democratic values. Some lament the decline of multiculturalism – “Utterly failed,” in the words of German Chancellor Angela Merkel – and others say Europe is defending its way of life against those who would destroy it. Lisbon Treaty in the dock
12 January 2011 Berlingske Tidende Copenhagen
Berlingske Tidende, 12 January 2011
The Danish supreme court has ruled that a group of 35 Danish citizens may file a case against the country’s Prime Minister and liberal leader, Lars Løkke Rasmussen, explains Berlingske Tidende. According to the plaintiffs, which include politicians and well-known artists, the Prime Minister violated the Danish constitution when he opted to ratify the Lisbon Treaty with a vote in parliament rather than a referendum. In its editorial, the Copehagen daily argues that the ratification procedure had the support of a majority of Danes and warns that a court ruling against the Prime Minister will herald “a return to the Maastricht era and more interminable discussions on our capacity to survive without the EU.” The Danes voted against Maastricht in a 1992 referendum, but finally approved it in 1993, once they had obtained a number of opt-outs.

No Brenda Lee song and dance here: Police chastised for apologizing to Muslims for terror bust during Ramadan.

Police criticized for apologizing to Ottawa Muslims for Ramadan arrests
By Robert Sibley, The Ottawa Citizen January 6, 2011 10:05 PM

OTTAWA — There is one law for all Canadians, and no religious group should expect special treatment when it comes to enforcement of the law, Prime Minister Stephen Harper said Thursday.
The remarks were made in response to reports that RCMP officers had apologized for arresting Muslims on terrorism-related charges during the Islamic holy month of Ramadan. On Aug. 25, the RCMP and Ottawa Police arrested two Ottawa men – Hiva Muhammad Alizadeh, Misbahuddin Ahmed – on terrorism-related charges. A third man, Khurram Syed Sher, was arrested in London, Ont.
The next day, Aug. 26, the RCMP and city police staged a special, hour-long meeting with members of Ottawa’s Muslim community with the ostensible purpose of ensuring them that their community was not regarded with undue suspicion despite the arrests. However, at least one officer was heard apologizing during the meeting for the timing of the arrests during Ramadan, which last year ran from Aug. 12 to Sept. 9.
Asked Thursday about the apology, Harper said: “In fairness, this is an operational matter for the RCMP and I wouldn’t pretend to know all the details and aspects of the story. But the general approach that this government would expect to see (from law enforcement agencies) is that the law, our important laws, are enforced every day of the year.” Continue Reading →
