Egyptian female blogger: remove hijab for freedom

From People of Shambhala.

Egyptian blogger Aliaa Magda al Mahdy has risked harsh sharia punishments by calling for more freedom of expression.

Egyptian blogger Aliaa Magda al Mahdy and a male friend recently shocked the overwhelming Muslim Egypt when they posted photos of themselves naked. A coalition of 20 law graduates quickly called for the 20 year-old to be punished according to sharia(which would mean that she would be publicly whipped).

Ahmed Yehia of the coalition pointed out that “The former Constitution and the new articles in the new Constitution say that Islamic law is the basis of legislation, we therefore request that the two bloggers be punished according to Islamic sanctions.”

Yehia called their photos “an insult to the Revolution”and complained that they had “present[ed] themselves as revolutionaries [but were now] demanding sexual freedom.” In other words, for Yehia, and for very many other Egyptians, the former president was ousted not for more liberalism and democracy but because Mubarak’s Egypt was… read more.

British Womans Refugee Gang Rape.

Austrian Times  03. 11. 11.

The brutal gang rape of a British woman by five Afghan refugees has sparked a massive protest against illegal immigrants in a Serbian spa town. The 38-year-old woman – who bravely managed to film the attack on her mobile phone – was repeatedly raped after befriending a group of Afghan men in a park in Banja Koviljaca. Despite handing the video footage to police, only one alleged attacker – identified by police only as Abdurashid D., 25 – has been arrested. Now local mothers have told police they are boycotting local schools from next week (nov 7) unless they clear out a local refugee centre containing more than 2,500 illegal immigrants which was built to hold just 120.

“These people are always hanging around the parks and streets during the day causing trouble,” said one mum. “They have no respect for us, no respect for women and we want them gone because they have no right to be here. “My daughter isn’t going to school again while four refugee rapists are still on the streets,” she added.

The British victim had travelled to Serbia after striking up a Facebook friendship with a man who told her he lived in a town called Lozinca. When she couldn’t find him, the woman flew on to the spa resort Banja Koviljaca where she began chatting to three Afghan men in a local park. But when they invited her for a drink at a local hotel, they met up with two other men and she was dragged behind the building and raped repeatedly. Police said that Abdurashid D. has admitted sex with the woman, but claims it was consensual, although he was unable to explain medical evidence showing injuries suffered by the woman. The case has shocked locals in the region, which is the most popular spa resort in the country and regarded as one of the mainstays of Serbia’s tourism business. http://www.austriantimes.at/news/Around_the_World/2011-11-03/37324/Brit_Womans_Refugee_Gang_Rape ………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………   Now compare this to the British newspaper coverage of one of their own citizens being raped…… The Daily Mirror

Illegal immigrants ‘gang rape British woman in Serbia’

A BRITISH woman secretly filmed a gang rape by five Afghani immigrants on her phone after flying to Serbia to meet a Facebook friend, police say. The 38-year-old, who has since returned home, was attacked on Thursday after failing to find her online pal. A 25-year-old man has been arrested. Locals in Banja Koviljaca, in the west of the country, have complained over the drunken behaviour of the town’s 2,500 illegal immigrants.

Yes that is “THREE” sentences !

Video on FGM in Islamic communities

This is good but brace yourselves. I like how black women activists, what we used to call ‘feminists’, meaning they fought for rational rights for women, like the right not to have all your sexual equipment removed for example, are being told that banning this practice is ‘neocolonialist’ and they have to fight the moronic left who pretend to be on the side of the oppressed by not stopping them from being mutilated in the genitals.

Kafka, did you ever think things could go this far?

The Burka: not just a piece of cloth. On basic human decency and true respect between the genders.

One of Britain’s leading political critics of Islamisation has spoken out again, this time in opposition to the abomination against women’s rights that is the burka.

The good thing about Abhijit Pandya is his refusal to “take the bait” over Islam. For him suggesting the issue is one of race, culture, or freedom of religion, is erroneous. The encroachments Islam represents are obviously: political; no matter how much Muslims, and others, would like to falsely claim them as “religious”.

This is why it is the duty of politicians to grapple unflinchingly with the subject, and as an Englishman, it’s fantastic to see a second generation immigrant like Pandya robustly proclaiming the traditional values, liberties and freedoms which once made Britain great.

It’s the kind of thing all of us long the political establishment in the UK to have the guts to do. But as the last year’s proven, the stifling paralysis of PC is just as complete under this Conservative-led government, as under the last Labour one.

Why NOT to converse or interact with someone in a burka

From Abhijit Pandya’s blog

Time magazine named her one of most of the important women of the 20th Century stating: ‘she shaped an idea of women for our time; she shook society into a new pattern from which there could be no going back’. ‘She’ was none other than Emmeline Pankhurst, who began the successful movement to have the right to vote for women. [the Suffragettes]
…
The acts of [the] suffragettes [who] rotted in prison on hunger strikes due to their campaigns for their right to vote are greatly diminished not only at the wearing of the burka in Britain today, but in our appalling tacit toleration of it.

Some of us, who are rightly concerned, often, wrongly, merely grind our teeth rather than raise our voices in this time of censorship through political correctness. If this is done through a fear of being branded a racist, this is misconceived- as it simply cannot be racist to want to emancipate a female from oppression, particularly where they are of another race.

Whether one agrees with it or not, much state and social activism has been spent on teaching women about not accepting abuse from their husbands, of not being bullied in relationships and of fighting the idea that a traditional house-wife is not permitted to have ambition outside the home, such as work.
…
I, for one, could never indignify the woman’s rights movement’s women by having a conversation with a woman in a burka. That piece of clothing is a marked symbol of difference not just of cultures, but of a want of a basic human decency that supports true respect between the genders.

Phyllis Chesler: Turning a blind eye to Islam’s brutal treatment of women

National Post, March 12, 2011 – 7:03 AM ET/Last Updated: March 12, 2011 5:10 AM ET

My feminist generation believed in universal human rights — one standard for all. I still do. Therefore, I have taken a strong stand against the persecution of immigrant women and dissidents. I now submit affidavits on behalf of women who have fled the threat of such killings and who are seeking asylum in the United States.

Those of us who condemn the plight of such women, who are mainly Muslims and ex-Muslims, have been demonized in activist circles as “Islamophobes” and racists because we do not, in the same breath, blame America, the West or Israel for their suffering. Many Western academic feminists are so afraid of being condemned as “racists” that this fear trumps their concern for women’s rights in the Arab and Muslim world.

Islamic gender apartheid, which has penetrated the West, is characterized by normalized daughter- and wife-battering, forced veiling, female genital mutilation, polygamy, purdah (the segregation or sequestration of women), arranged marriage, child marriage and first-cousin marriage. Girls and women often are honour-murdered if they resist such practices, if they wish to divorce a dangerously abusive husband, or if they are viewed as too independent, too modern.

Today, at its most extreme, Islamic gender apartheid is characterized by acid attacks, public stonings, hangings, and beheading of women in Iran, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Somalia and Saudi Arabia — countries in which female rape victims are jailed, tortured and executed.

Feminists should be crying out from the rooftops against these practices. Some are. I am. Yet, many Muslims, as well as many intellectually “progressive” Western infidels, are not. They are welcoming the imposition of Islamic religious law, Sharia law, not only in the Middle East but also in the West. Continue Reading →

The crimewave that shames the world

It’s one of the last great taboos: the murder of at least 20,000 women a year in the name of ‘honour’. Nor is the problem confined to the Middle East: the contagion is spreading rapidly

By Robert Fisk

'); } else { document.write(' '); } // ]]>
It is a tragedy, a horror, a crime against humanity. The details of the murders – of the women beheaded, burned to death, stoned to death, stabbed, electrocuted, strangled and buried alive for the "honour" of their families – are as barbaric as they are shameful. Many women's groups in the Middle East and South-west Asia suspect the victims are at least four times the United Nations' latest world figure of around 5,000 deaths a year. Most of the victims are young, many are teenagers, slaughtered under a vile tradition that goes back hundreds of years but which now spans half the globe.

A 10-month investigation by The Independent in Jordan, Pakistan, Egypt, Gaza and the West Bank has unearthed terrifying details of murder most foul. Men are also killed for "honour" and, despite its identification by journalists as a largely Muslim practice, Christian and Hindu communities have stooped to the same crimes. Indeed, the "honour" (or ird) of families, communities and tribes transcends religion and human mercy. But voluntary women's groups, human rights organisations, Amnesty International and news archives suggest that the slaughter of the innocent for "dishonouring" their families is increasing by the year.

Iraqi Kurds, Palestinians in Jordan, Pakistan and Turkey appear to be the worst offenders but media freedoms in these countries may over-compensate for the secrecy which surrounds "honour" killings in Egypt – which untruthfully claims there are none – and other Middle East nations in the Gulf and the Levant. But honour crimes long ago spread to Britain, Belgium, Russia and Canada and many other nations. Security authorities and courts across much of the Middle East have connived in reducing or abrogating prison sentences for the family murder of women, often classifying them as suicides to prevent prosecutions.

Lashings: Sakineh Mohammad Ashtiani was allegedly whipped 99 times after an incorrect picture of her appeared in a newspaper

An Iranian widow sentenced to death by stoning for adultery has been lashed 99 times for ”spreading corruption and indecency” after a newspaper published an alleged picture of her without a headscarf, her son said last night.

Sakineh Mohammad Ashtiani, 43, was convicted of “adultery while being married” and given the death penalty after a trial over her husband’s murder in 2006.

The widow’s son Sajad, 22, has campaigned for her to be released and after the plight caused international uproar her execution was halted in July.

But supporters’ hopes have been dashed after Sajad said that his mother has been whipped 99 times after an apparent picture of her without traditional head-dress appeared in The Times last week.

The newspaper quickly withdrew the picture claiming it was of a different Iranian woman living in Sweeden but Sajad now fears that his mother could be hanged.

He said the photograph was an excuse to punish his mother and that the hardline Iranian government’s real purpose was to silence the international campaign to save her.

‘If it wasn’t the picture they would have found another excuse to try and silence her supporters outside Iran’, he said.

The Times said that it had been sent the photo “in good faith” by Mohammad Mostafaei, who was Sakineh’s lawyer in Tehran until he was forced to flee Iran at the end of July for publicising her plight.
