Mike Fegelman: The UN’s eroding moral compass

The National Post:

  Mar 12, 2012 – 9:12 AM ET

  • As another telling example of how the UN has lost its moral compass, on March 9, just one day after International Women’s Day marked the achievement and continued challenges of women, the United Nations’ Commission on the Status of Women, passed the only country-specific resolution condemning Israel for the supposed intolerable living conditions of Palestinian women.

No action was taken against Iran, where girls are stoned to death for allegedly committing adultery, or Syria, where women are indiscriminately tortured, raped, and murdered by the Assad regime. The plight of Saudi Arabian women who are treated as chattel under monarchy-sanctioned gender apartheid was altogether ignored. The United Nations only censured Israel, one of the world’s most progressive defenders of women’s rights, for exclusive and unwarranted opprobrium.

The UN’s preoccupation with Israel will saw one of its own organization’s pass a resolution decrying that the “Israeli occupation” in territories, including east Jerusalem, is the main obstacle for the advancement of Palestinian woman. Not a peep from the UN about the internal Palestinian conditions that stymie female self-determination. Israel’s envoy to the UN, Ron Proser, rightly proclaimed that this council’s resolution “bring levels of absurdity and cynicism to new heights.”

Israel, the only true democracy in the Middle East and stalwart protector of women, is cast by the UN as the foremost oppressor of women. In a region where the terms “Middle East” and “women’s rights” are contradictory and not complimentary, Israel stands out as a beacon for the rights of women, not its serial abuser.

It’s no wonder that when Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu addressed the UN General Assembly this past September, he referred to the UN as “a house of many lies” and a “theatre of the absurd.” A place where “Israel is unjustly singled out for condemnation more often than all the nations of the world combined” and where Israel is “not only cast as the villain, but where real villains are cast in leading roles.”

To support his argument, Netanyahu pointed out how Libya chaired the UN Commission on Human Rights under Gaddafi’s ruthless and tyrannical rein. He referred to Saddam Hussein’s regime in Iraq which headed the UN committee on disarmament and how the UN described the Western Wall, Judaism’s holiest accessible site as “occupied Palestinian territory”.

In a place where automatic majorities decide anything, it’s no wonder that also this week another UN organ body, UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) approved a resolution to keep Syria on the agency’s human rights committee. Talk about farcical.  A leading violator of human rights which has by some estimates killed close to 7,500 of its own people, sits on a UN committee tasked with instilling, nurturing, and enforcing international human rights.

In reality, Israel’s sterling record on women’s rights stands in sharp contrast to the sordid history of its Arab neighbour’s treatment of its own females. Israeli women like the late Prime Minister Golda Meir and current head of the Kadima political party, Tzipi Livni, have led their country with distinguished honour. Israel recently ranked 11th place among 59 developed countries for the participation of women in the workplace. Israeli women serve in Israel’s independent judiciaries, civil service and public sectors, and are leaders in the business and labour communities, all while serving important roles in the Israel Defense Forces. Next week in fact, Israeli women will take part in the “Slutwalk” protest. In a show of solidarity, Israeli women are joining this peaceful protest movement that started in Canada in response to a policeman’s comment that to avoid being attacked, women shouldn’t dress like “sluts”.

Lancashire chip shop forced to remove ‘gaudy’ Union Jack sign

Lesley and Peter Salthouse have been forced to take down their Union Jack shop sign

The owners of a Lancashire fish and chip shop have been forced to take down their Union Jack sign, as it was described as “gaudy” and “too busy”.

Lesley Salthouse and her husband Peter, who have run Naze Lane Chippy in Freckleton for almost 25 years, were told the sign was not in keeping with the village.

The sign has a simple Union Jack flag in the middle, with two St George’s flags on either side.

The couple lodged a planning applicaton after a single complaint trigged the council to take action, but it was denied.

They then took their case to the planning inspectorate in Bristol, but they were again rejected.

Lesley, 53, was furious at the decision and said: “We are an English fish and chip shop, yet we cannot even use our own flag to celebrate that.

“There is nothing more traditional than a Union Jack flag and our patron saint of England is St George so why not have that flag on either side of our sign?

“If you go to Spain or Portugal you see their national flag in so many bars and restaurants.

“You see more national flags abroad than in our own country, which I think is really sad.”

Freckleton Parish Council approved the planning application, but it was Fylde Borough Council that denied it on the basis that the design was “oversized and gaudy with too many angles, triangles and colour”.

Jury at Isleworth Crown Court decide that Muslims bashing up white girls is perfectly fine

From Casuals United:

Watch the video below. The two Muslim brothers Mohamed El Togby and Abdul El Togby, who BOTH punched little Vicky in the face, leaving her needing stitches, were cleared by a jury, of which half the people on it shared the attackers religion, and the others were old people. In the video at around 6:39, one of them walks over and while he could have punched anyone he wanted, he is seen to deliberately target Vicky, who is about 6 stone soaking wet. They claimed they were provoked, and this video was not allowed to be seen by the jury, only the official CCTV. No doubt the Muslims on the jury were of the opinion that she was only a “Kuffar bitch” anyway and shouldnt have been out in public not covered up, so deserved it, and the others on the jury took into account that fact that this sort of violence against women is an acceptable part of their culture. Every time there have been incidents involving EDL and Muslims at or near demos, they have shown time and time again that they will happily assault women. I was nearly attacked at Hyde. These people have zero respect for women, especially not white ones. Ive seen Commies laughing about this on Twitter. Nice. Just goes to show the sort of scum they are.

Watch the video and judge for yourself whether he deliberately hits a woman. Those non muslims on the jury should hang their heads in shame.

Note from Vladtepesblog:

The person who uploaded the video disabled embedding. However here is a link that should take you to 6 minutes into the video where a lot of mutual provocation occurs. None of it justifies what happens to the young woman however.

The two links in the article itself above should take you to the start of the video.

Christians have no right to wear cross at work, says Government

The Telegraph:

Christians do not have a right to wear a cross or crucifix openly at work, the Government is to argue in a landmark court case.

Christians have no right to wear cross at work, says Government

In a highly significant move, ministers will fight a case at the European Court of Human Rights in which two British women will seek to establish their right to display the cross.

It is the first time that the Government has been forced to state whether it backs the right of Christians to wear the symbol at work.

A document seen by The Sunday Telegraph discloses that ministers will argue that because it is not a “requirement” of the Christian faith, employers can ban the wearing of the cross and sack workers who insist on doing so.

The Government’s position received an angry response last night from prominent figures including Lord Carey, the former Archbishop of Canterbury.

He accused ministers and the courts of “dictating” to Christians and said it was another example of Christianity becoming sidelined in official life.

The Government’s refusal to say that Christians have a right to display the symbol of their faith at work emerged after its plans to legalise same-sex marriages were attacked by the leaders of the Roman Catholic Church in Britain.

A poll commissioned by The Sunday Telegraph shows that the country is split on the issue.

Overall, 45 per cent of voters support moves to allow gay marriage, with 36 per cent against, while 19 per cent say they do not know.

However, the Prime Minister is out of step with his own party.

Exactly half of Conservative voters oppose same-sex marriage in principle and only 35 per cent back it.

There is no public appetite to change the law urgently, with more than three quarters of people polled saying it was wrong to fast-track the plan before 2015 and only 14 per cent saying it was right.

The Strasbourg case hinges on whether human rights laws protect the right to wear a cross or crucifix at work under Article 9 of the European Convention on Human Rights.

It states: “Everyone has the right to freedom of thought, conscience and religion; this right includes freedom to change his religion or belief, and freedom, either alone or in community with others and in public or private, to manifest his religion or belief, in worship, teaching, practice and observance.”

The Christian women bringing the case, Nadia Eweida and Shirley Chaplin, claim that they were discriminated against when their employers barred them from wearing the symbols.

They want the European Court to rule that this breached their human right to manifest their religion. Continue Reading →

Mom charged in disabled daughter’s 2011 death

Now this should be interesting. Remember Robert Latimer? He was jailed for a really long time for euthanizing his daughter after many years of really intense, expensive care of a daughter in a vegetative state. He euthanized her at the point where state care was cruel and the attention required by this disabled daughter meant none of the rest of his family would have any resources at all for school or time or attention by the parents.

Robert Latimer was honest with the police. With the courts. With the Judge and he went to jail for a really long time. It will be interesting indeed to see how the courts treat this Islamic equivalent who fabricated a ‘home invasion’ to cover for her murder of her disabled daughter.

The 41-year-old woman initially told Toronto Police she was home alone with her daughter when she answered a knock on the door just before noon on Feb. 19, 2011 and two masked men burst into the townhouse at 150 Burrows Hall Ct.

A man led the woman from room to room in search of an unspecified package while the other stayed with her daughter, she told police.

The woman claimed by the time the bandits left her daughter had stopped breathing.

“That was what was reported to investigators at the time,” Const. Tony Vella said Friday. “But we don’t believe that is what occurred.”

The teen, who has only been described as having “severe” mental and physical disabilities, was rushed to hospital in life-threatening condition.

The Moral Confusion of Sir Peter Bottomley MP

By Paul Weston

A planned British Freedom Party event was cancelled last week after the venue’s manager was threatened by an organisation called Unite Against Fascism ( UAF ).

The UAF is a deeply unpleasant organisation, which quite astonishingly has been publicly endorsed by our Prime Minister and various MPs – including Conservative MP Sir Peter Bottomley.

The Daily Telegraph exposed some horrific facts about the UAF last week, so I wrote to Sir Peter Bottomley via email, to ask why both he and Cameron publicly endorsed such an extremist, anti-British and hateful organisation. His response was chilling.

Toronto Star changes headline to be less critical of Islam

Once upon a time, the left was the most hysterical about women’s rights, both real ones and as often, synthetic rights which were impossible to address but are part and parcel of critical theory. Now, the left is throwing real rights, women’s and minorities and frankly everyones, under the bus as fast as possible to avoid telling the truth about Islam.

First picture, yesterdays headline of the Toronto star stating a factual aspect of the deal the Afghan ‘president’ made.

How very shameful. The Toronto Star enjoyed a brief moment of the former glory of supporting real human rights. Of exposing tyranny and speaking truth to power and more typically, truth to ultra-conservative religious tyranny. Now, like the rest of the media (SUN NEWS NETWORK excepted) The Star has weakened its headline to avoid offending the greatest threat to women, minority, and for that matter all human rights and beneficiaries of the Enlightenment, Islam.

Harvard’s shameful and biased “one state” conference joins the call to destroy Israel

The campaign among western intellectuals to delegitimize Israel’s existence scored a major symbolic victory this month, with the announcement that Harvard’s John F. Kennedy School of Government will host on March 3-4, a conference advocating a “One State Solution” for Israel and the Palestinians.

“One State Solution” is the latest fashion among Israel’s enemies. If implemented, Israel would be merged into a single country with the West Bank and the Gaza Strip, and both Jews and Palestinians living elsewhere would have a “right of return.”

Conveniently unmentioned in the Harvard conference brochure is that an influx of millions of Palestinians would create a majority vote for dismantling Israel and replacing it with a Palestinian-Arab state.

Palestinians may call this “One State,” but for Israeli Jews, the more accurate caption for this “solution” would seem to be “Final.”

That Harvard’s conferees have no intention of presenting a fair and honest debate on the implications of “One State” is made clear by the speakers list, which consists mostly of militant Palestinian advocates, plus a few left-wing Jewish extremists who question the validity of Israel’s existence.
