IRAN: MURDER VICTIM’S SON KICKS STOOL OF CONDEMNED WOMAN

Justice Iranian style. They don’t just hang people, they get the family members involved then strangle them. The Tundra Tabloids is for justice, and if the death penalty is called for, then it has to be the most humane form of capital punishment (An oxymoron? But you know what I mean) possible. Having to beg for your life from the people related to the person you killed, then have your stool kicked out from underneath you to start your strangling to death, sure sounds barbaric. Or is it just me?  KGS

Woman hanged for murdering ex-soccer star lover’s wife ‘had stool kicked away by his son’ in gruesome Tehran jail execution

She prayed and cried in final moments after victim’s assembled family denied last-gasp appeal for clemency.

The barbaric scene that accompanied yesterday’s execution of an Iranian woman who murdered a love rival has emerged.

Shahla Jahed, 40, was hanged at Evin Prison in Tehran yesterday morning, with her stool kicked away by the son of the woman she was found guilty of killing.

The former lover of Iranian soccer star Nasser Mohammad Khani, she had admitted to stabbing to death his ‘permanent’ wife Laleh Saharkhizan in 2002, although she repeatedly retracted the confession during her trial.

Human rights activists believe her confession was forced out of her.

[…]

Jahed was portrayed as an obsessed stalker, likened to Glenn Close in Fatal Attraction, at her trial in 2004, but she had also been the ‘temporary wife’ of the Iranian footballer, who won fame with a succession of league titles as player and coach with Persepolis FC, Iran’s biggest club.

In the Shiite faith – the majority religion in Iran – men and women can marry for an agreed period of time.

Afterwards, the marriage is null and void, although it can be renewed, but there is an obligation for both to look after any offspring.

Men can have up to four permanent wives, and any number of temporary wives. Women can only be married to one man at a time.

EU officials lift travel restrictions for Albanians and Bosnians

European Union ministers have said visa requirements for Albanians and Bosnians would be lifted starting in December as the two states work towards EU membership, but warned that visas could be re-imposed if travel rules are abused.
By News Wires (text)

REUTERS – The European Union said on Monday it would lift visa requirements for travellers from Albania and Bosnia next month, aiming to encourage democratic reforms in the Balkan states, but warned that restrictions could be re-imposed if travel rules are abused.

The bloc’s home affairs ministers approved a proposal by the EU executive, the European Commission, to scrap travel restrictions for holders of biometric passports, that have a digitally recorded photo, during a meeting in Brussels.

However, they insisted the European Commission would continue to monitor how the two countries comply with EU rules on border controls and passport security, underscoring reluctance in the bloc to open up to unrestricted travel.

Some EU governments doubt the two EU membership hopefuls can cope with issues such as illegal immigration and trafficking along drug routes from Asia to Europe, because of weak institutions and alleged corruption.

Such concerns increased after a relaxation of visa requirements for citizens of Serbia, Montenegro and Macedonia last year led to a spike in applications for asylum in the EU from the three western Balkan states. Continue Reading →

Two Afghan converts to Christianity risk the death penalty

ASIANEWS.IT

The two men have been in jail since June waiting for trial. A local TV station showed Afghans reciting Christian prayers and being baptised. Afghan law bans conversion from Islam to any other religion. Fr Moretti, in charge of the country’s onlyCatholic church, is interviewed about the matter.

Kabul (AsiaNews) – Two Afghans accused of converting to Christianity could face the death penalty, a prosecuting lawyer said on Sunday. Musa Sayed, 45, and Ahmad Shah, 50, are being detained in the Afghan capital awaiting trial, the prosecutor in charge of western Kabul, Din Mohammad Quraishi, said.

“They are accused of conversion to another religion, which is considered a crime under Islamic law. If proved, they face the death penalty or life imprisonment,” Quraishi said. Sayed, a Red Cross (ICRC) employee, has already confessed. There is also “proof” against Shah, Quraishi explained.

Sayed and Shah were arrested in late May and early June, days after local television broadcast footage of men reciting Christian prayers in Farsi and being baptised, apparently in a house in Kabul. The TV station also showed some people engaged in proselytising, which is banned in the Muslim country.

The ICRC’s spokesman in Kabul, Bijan Frederic Farnoudi, confirmed that Sayed worked for the organisation since 1995. He also said that he was able to visit him in prison.

The government launched its own investigation into the matter and suspended two aid groups, Norwegian Church Aid (a Protestant organisation) and Church World Service of the US (which includes Protestants, Orthodox and Anglicans), after the TV station reported two of their members were proselytising.

The Afghan constitution, adopted after the fall of the Islamic Taliban in late 2001, forbids conversion to another religion from Islam and in theory can sentence those found guilty to death. However, no one has been executed in recent years for converting.

Fr Giuseppe Moretti, parish priest at the only Catholic church in Afghanistan, a chapel inside the Italian Embassy in Kabul, told AsiaNews that he knew nothing about the affair. He was certain that they did not convert to Catholicism.

“No one in the country was baptised by a Catholic priest because proselytising is banned by law,” he said.

“The Catholic Church has been present in the country since 1923 with a mandate to take care of members of the international Catholic community living here. It has always respected that [principle] to the letter.”

As for the anti-conversion law, Fr Moretti has nothing to add, except to reiterate that the Catholic community has always respected it.

“The Little Sisters of Jesus of Charles de Foucault, the Sisters of Mother Teresa and the Sisters of the Interreligious Community are present here, and they too respect the ban. We bear witness to our faith through our commitment and our lives,” he said.

Ottawa U: 9 foot Minorah stolen, found trashed in a dumpster.

Below is a feel good story in the Ottawa Citizen about how someone stole a 9 foot menorah from Ottawa U and now students are rallying to raise funds to build a new one. However what the story does not say, is that according to a tipster to Vlad, it was trashed and left in a dumpster. Police are trying to decide if it is a hate crime.

Jewish students at the University of Ottawa have rallied to build a new menorah after one was stolen from the university grounds on the weekend.

A three-metre menorah set up last week outside the UniCentre went missing on Saturday just days before the Jewish holiday of Hannukah, which is today. The menorah was later found in front of the Father & Sons restaurant on Osgoode Street, near the university campus.

The metal and wire religious structure was too badly damaged and could not be returned.

“It’s all smashed up, it was part of a student prank,” said Rabbi Chaim Boyarsky, the university’s rabbi.

Two unidentified individuals were captured on security cameras carting away the religious symbol.

Boyarsky said a fundraising campaign launched after the theft has so far raised about $800 donated by students.

It’s the third year the menorah has been erected on campus.

“We never had any problems before,” said Boyarsky. “We respect everyone’s culture and we really want our culture to be respected as well.”

He said the eight-branched candelabra is normally shipped from Brooklyn, New York and Jewish students at the university volunteer to assemble it. But there was no time to get a new one from the U.S. prior to the Jewish holiday, he said.

“The students are building a new one, it will be two feet bigger than the other menorah,” said Boyarsky, adding the students purchased the building materials.

“The irony of this is that students came out in big numbers to help and some of them were not even involved before.”

He said the menorah will be up in the same spot in time for today’s holiday.

Some depressing links about the state of the UK.

As I said in a post from earlier this evening, it is becoming more and more clear to me why A Clockwork Orange and Orwell’s books are all about England. A. M. was kind enough to compile this list of depressing links about the England today. Fair warning, I have a suspicion that news may break tomorrow, even more depressing than any of this in some ways.

Story #1. Anjem Choudery to get his own episode on a major UK TV show:

Anjem Choudary, who was also involved with the banned group Islam4UK which planned a protest march through Wootton Bassett, will have free reign to give his views during an edition of the channel’s daily opinion slot, known as 4thought.tv.

The counter-terrorism think-tank Quilliam has written to David Abraham, the Channel 4 chief executive, to complain about airtime already given to radical Muslims during the series.

Story #2. Taliban spiritual cleric to speak in House of Lords:

A senior Muslim cleric who is known as the “Taliban’s ideological mentor” has been allowed to enter the UK and address the House of Lords. More here as well:

Fazlur Rehman, the head of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam party, came to the UK on Wednesday, at the invitation of the High Commission of Pakistan, and was due to address the House of Lords on Thursday.

Story #3. Islamists to advise all Party Parliamentary group on preventing Islamophobia:

After a series of reverses in the political arena, Islamist sympathisers yesterday established a key bridgehead in Parliament.

A body called iEngage (also known as Engage) states in a press release that it will be acting as the secretariat to a new All-Party Parliamentary Group on Islamophobia, whose inaugural meeting was held yesterday in the Commons. The group is chaired by a Tory MP, Kris Hopkins. The Lib Dem deputy leader Simon Hughes and the Labour peer Lord Janner are vice-chairs. Sources say that the inaugural meeting was attended by the Tory MPs Angie Bray and Eric Ollerenshaw, among others. (A spokesman for the Labour MP Lisa Nandy, who was listed as attending, has contacted me to say that she did not.)

Story #4. London borough of Tower Hamlets becomes “Islamic republic”:

Outside the Wellington Way polling station in Tower Hamlets yesterday, as at many other polling stations in the borough, people had to run a gauntlet of Lutfur Rahman supporters to reach the ballot box. As one Bengali woman voter went past them, we heard one of the Rahman army scolding her for her “immodest dress.”

That incident is perhaps a tiny taste of the future for Britain’s poorest borough now it has elected Mr Rahman as its first executive mayor, with almost total power over its £1 billion budget. At the count last night, one very senior figure in the Tower Hamlets Labour Party said: “It really is Britain’s Islamic republic now.”

For the last eight months – without complaint or challenge from Mr Rahman – this blog and newspaper have laid out his close links with a group of powerful local businessmen and with a Muslim supremacist body, the Islamic Forum of Europe (IFE) – which believes, in its own words, in transforming the “very infrastructure of society, its institutions, its culture, its political order and its creed… from ignorance to Islam.” Mr Rahman has refused to deny these claims.

Lemons to Lemon-aid. British Hoteliers manage to survive the Islamic complaint

Remember the British couple that got into a minor argument about Islam with a couple that was staying at their hotel? Then the Muslims charged them with some kind of thought crime and they were dragged through the courts and it pretty much ruined their business?

Here is how a good hearted, cooperative mindset can work things out for you. There is a lesson for every human being alive here. This, is a great story.
