Spate of attacks on unveiled women in Yemen

The niqab, or face veil, is often disputed in Islam.

SANA’A: Local residents in Aden told Bikyamasr.com that al-Qaeda militants in the region were now targeting unveiled women: harassing them, and at least one instance, physically abusing them as they are trying to enforce the full face veil.

Although the Qur’an only specifies that a woman should cover her hair, neck and ears, Ansar al-Sharia chose to understand this somewhat differently, arguing that since the wives of the prophet were covered, so should all Muslim women.

What the militants don’t mention, or don’t know, is that as with everything in Islam it is very much up to the individual to choose their path – as religion cannot be imposed by force.

Although Yemenis are considered traditional when it comes to Islam, and fiercely defensive of their faith and practice, the vast majority of southerners have said to be outraged by the recent spate of harassment.

“How can they dare attacks girls and women who do not wear the veil? It is a personal choice, which should not be imposed on anyone,” said Anessa Abdelaalem a school teacher in Aden.

According to reports from the local authorities several girls were sprayed with acid on their face by Ansar al-Sharia, for they refused to bow to their demands.

A letter stamped by Iranian authorities in terms of how Muslims are to deal with Bahai

H/T Shab with thanks

The English translation of the attached letter stamped by Khamenei’s office (Religious & Supreme Leader of Iran):

In the name of God
All members of the Bahai cult are guilty as being infidels & are regarded as “Najes” (an islamic term for being inherently unclean/dirty), thus people are advised to avoid proximity in food & other things because of their contagious nature AND it is paramount that the believers combat the schemes & devious nature of this misled cult.

Churches condemn Saudi fatwa

For once I think we could learn something from the Saudis. Why not give back in kind?

From The Tablet:

30 March 2012

German and Austrian church leaders have condemned a call by Saudi Arabia’s Muslim Grand Mufti for the destruction of Christian places of worship throughout the Arabian Peninsula.

“The Mufti clearly lacks any respect for religious freedom and the peaceful coexistence of religions. We stand firmly committed to religious freedom for everyone in our country, and we demand the same rights no less emphatically for Christians in countries where Muslims form the majority,” said Archbishop Robert Zollitsch, president of Germany’s bishops’ conference.

The archbishop was reacting to the mid-March declaration by Sheikh Abdul Aziz bin Abdullah, the highest Saudi religious authority, who said Muhammad had decreed that “only one religion should exist in the Arabian Peninsula” and that existing churches should be destroyed.

Michael Coren on the destruction of the grave yard in Libya

I wonder. Is there a way to define the word ‘savage’ or ‘barbarian’ that would not apply to the way we have seen the Islamic world behave towards non-Muslims, towards Islamic and non Islamic women, between various sects of Islam and towards minority groups in majority Islamic areas? I would be interested to hear one if there is one.

Fury at mayor’s drag queen ban

Something tells me that this story is still concealing something a lot more insidious. For example, that perhaps the mayor of this area is trying to destroy free-speech and other essential and genuine human rights because it offends his notion of Islam etc.

This is London:

The mayor of Tower Hamlets has been accused of homophobia for trying to stop a gay pub running its popular “drag queen” strip nights.

Staff at the White Swan claim Lutfur Rahman, an ally of Ken Livingstone, is “making a mockery” of diversity.

Tower Hamlets council is threatening to classify the pub as a sex establishment and use laws regulating lap-dancing clubs to ban the Wednesday night comic contests, which have run for 26 years.

Michael Barrymore came out at one of the shows in 1995 and fans include Graham Norton and Sir Ian McKellen.

Barry Kirk, 59, the pub’s joint-owner, said: “Wednesday is our only busy week night. If they kill our Wednesday nights, we’ll be threatened with closure.”

A petition to save the night has attracted 800 signatures.

Manager Liam Bushell said: “I’ve worked here for 26 years, it’s part of my life. We’ve never had a complaint.”

Daryl Stafford, a DJ at the pub, said the shows were nothing like lap dancing and added: “This is discriminatory and it makes my blood boil. You have to ask why they would want to stop something which is perfectly harmless. There’s nothing sexual about it.”

Trouble in paradise: Maldives and Islamic extremism

As Shambala people posted here a couple of days ago, there has already been strong indicators that the Maldives are now another Islamic dung-heap. Here is another report on the smashing of the museum and various artifacts within it.

MALE — At the Maldives’ National Museum, smashed Buddhist statues are testament to the rise of Islamic extremism and Taliban-style intolerance in a country famous as a laid-back holiday destination.

On Tuesday, as protesters backed by mutinous police toppled president Mohamed Nasheed, a handful of men stormed the Chinese-built museum and destroyed its display of priceless artefacts from the nation’s pre-Islamic era.

“They have effectively erased all evidence of our Buddhist past,” a senior museum official told AFP at the now shuttered building in the capital Male, asking not to be named out of fear for his own safety.

“We lost all our 12th century statues. They were made of coral stone and limestone. They are very brittle and there is no way we can restore them,” he explained.

‘Gay people should get the death penalty’: Five Muslim men on trial for stirring up hatred after ‘handing out homophobic leaflets near mosque’

…and some people still insist that ‘multiculturalism’ is not an oxymeron.

From The Daily Mail:

  • One leaflet called The Death Penalty? showed image of mannequin hanging from a noose and said buggery led to hell, court hears
  • Jury told the ‘horrible’ leaflets were designed to stir up ‘hatred and hostility against homosexual people’
  • Prosecution of the group is first of its kind since new laws were passed

A group of Muslim men handed a leaflet out to the public that called for homosexuals to be ‘punished’ and given the death sentence, a court has heard.

The five men gave out the pamphlet, called The Death Penalty?, which showed an image of a mannequin hanging from a noose and said buggery was a great sin leading to hell, the court wast told.

It also said that it used to be punished by hanging and that people practising and allowing homosexuality would suffer, the court was told.

Ihjaz Ali, 42, Mehboob Hussain, 45, Umar Javed, 38, Razwan Javed, 27, and Kabir Ahmed, 28, are alleged to have handed out the document outside and near the Jamia Mosque in Derby, in July 2010.

They are also alleged to have put it through people’s letterboxes in the neighbourhood.

All five men are accused of stirring up hatred on the grounds of sexual orientation in the first prosecution of its kind since legislation came into force in March 2010.

Opening the prosecution’s case at Derby Crown Court today, where the five men are on trial after denying all charges, prosecutor Bobbie Cheema said the case was an example of a hate crime.

She told the jury of seven men and five women: ‘The essence of this case will come down to this – an allegation of a hate crime, that these five defendants were part of a small group of men who distributed horrible, threatening literature, with quotations from religious sources and with pictures on them, which were designed to stir up hatred and hostility against homosexual people.’

Miss Cheema showed the jury a series of three leaflets the men are said to have handed out, which included The Death Penalty? leaflet, and told them they would hear from witnesses who received them.

OIC/EU: “The increasing role of the extreme right in Western politics is beyond our abilities to counter them” says OIC Secretary General

IINA

– January 3, 2012Posted in: Articles

JEDDAH, 8 Safar/Jan 3 (IINA)-Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) said that the European Union offered to host the third meeting of the ‘Istanbul Process’, which deliberates, in a series of meetings, on developing mechanisms to implement UNHRC Resolution 16/18 on combating intolerance, discrimination and incitement to violence based on religion ore belief.

The Secretary General of Islamic Cooperation in his office in Jeddah on Tuesday 30 January 2012 pointed out that the EU’s offer to host the meeting represents a qualitative shift in action against the phenomenon of Islamophobia, which spread in many European countries, targeting the Muslim communities there.

The phenomenon of Islamophobia is found in the West in general, but is growing in European countries in particular and in a manner different than that in the US, which had contributed to drafting Resolution 16/18.  The new European position represents the beginning of the shift from their previous reserve over the years over the attempts by the OIC to counter “defamation of religions” in the Human Rights Council and the General Assembly of the United Nations.

Officials in the Cultural Affairs Department of the OIC said that the European Union’s offer to host the third meeting (the first was in Istanbul in July and the second in Washington DC in December) is considered a promising new possibility of solving this problem. The ‘Istanbul Process’ will have an added momentum by holding the meeting in Europe, which is more affected by the phenomenon of Islamophobia and hostility towards Islam.

However, Ihsanoglu said that the growing role of the extreme right in politics in several European countries has become stronger than the capacity of the Organization, explaining that the extreme right, who hates Muslims, became leverage in the hands of politicians. He added that the rise of the extreme right through elections has become an issue that cannot be countered, considering the democratic way in which these extremist reach their positions. He pointed out to the referendum held in Switzerland, as an example, which resulted in suspending the construction of minarets there following a vote by the Swiss people.

Reopen your spas! Maldives president in dramatic U-turn just days after Islamists forced him to ban centres at luxury resorts

The Daily Mail:

By Julian Gavaghan

Last updated at 5:01 PM on 4th January 2012

The president of the Maldives today ordered the country’s resorts to reopen their spas just days after they were shut following Islamic protests.

Mohammed Nasheed relented on his Saturday decree and instead asked the Supreme Court to decide whether the luxury treatment centres are legal or not.

The Indian Ocean islands are a paradise holiday destination renowned for its pristine white sand beaches, turquoise waters and high-end luxury resorts that often cost $1,000 a night.

Tourists flock to the Maldives to enjoy the luxury resorts and explore the Indian Ocean. Here a diver swims underwater at Meemu AtollTourists flock to the Maldives to enjoy the luxury resorts and explore the Indian Ocean. Here a diver swims underwater at Meemu Atoll

The order to close the Muslim nation’s luxury spas, health centres and massage parlours threatened to sever a vital lifetime to its tourism-dependent economy.

Mr Nasheed made his first decision following a mass protest on December 23 calling for a halt to ‘anti-Islamic activities’.

TOP THREE HOTELS TO ‘LOSE THEIR LUSTRE’

One & Only Reethi Rah

This chic resort located on one of the biggest islands in the North Male Atoll is still top dog in the Maldives. It offers the height of luxury and privacy for its guests and attracts a jet-set crowd for whom money is no object.

Cost: Reethi Rah is home to 130 luxurious private beach and water villas. Prices start at £959 per room per night in January.

Spa: The spa is one of the highlights of the resort. It features crystal steam rooms and ice fountains and signature treatments include a volcanic hot stone massage and an exfoliating scrub that promises a sun-kissed glow.

Soneva Gili

The stunning wooden villas at this popular eco resort will bring out the Robinson Crusoe in you – they’re all built over water and have direct access to the resort’s lagoon. Plus, everything is open to the elements and the villas have all been built using only natural fibres.

Cost: Soneva Gili offers just 45 villas. Each has its own private water garden and sun deck and cost from £685 per night in January.

Spa: The resort’s Six Senses Spa boasts glass floor-panels and an extensive a la carte treatment menu. Treatments range from a 90-minute coconut body scrub to an ‘Asian Fusion Journey’ which lasts nearly six hours and includes three different massages.

Huvafen Fushi

Set within its very own lagoon, this resort boasts pristine white beaches, friendly staff and laid-back minimalism.

Cost: Each of the over-water bungalows at the resort features a private pool and prices start from £1160 per bungalow per night in January.

Spa: The cutting-edge underwater spa rooms are a major selling point for the resort and certainly have the wow factor. Tropical fish float past large windows as you indulge in treatments such as Unite Me Crystal Ritual, which involves an application of a sand and lime poultice and a coconut oil massage.

Other tourist activities that have caused offense are the eating of pork and drinking of alcohol.

Importation of alcohol is already severely prohibited in the Maldives and Islamists are now calling for a complete ban. Continue Reading →

Muslims behead Thai Buddhist children.

Just when you thought your contempt and loathing for Islam could not possibly get any stronger, along comes a story like this one.

I have redone the video with the warning built into it so there can be no misunderstanding about not watching it if you aren’t completely emotionally numb first. Maybe watch a season of Dexter then hope you no longer can tell fact from fiction.

Pakistan: Thousands Protest Shoes Bearing Cross

Funny, if a prison guard handles a koran in Guantanamo bay without wearing gloves the president of the USA will likely intervene. But you don’t hear so much about this:

From Eurasia News

December 18, 2011

More than three thousand angry Christians held a protest rally in Lahore yesterday condemning sale of shoes incorporating Christian crosses.

Some Muslim leaders joined the protestors, who were wearing black armbands and headbands. Chanting anti government slogans, they burned tires on the road.

The protest ended after pastors led hymn singing.

“This is no drama. Our Christian identity has been insulted as Christmas approaches”, said Pastor Samuel King, president of the Pakistan Minorities Movement (PMM).

The group had previously confiscated 1,200 pairs of shoes, inscribed with a cross and Christmas symbols, from a shop. Its owner was arrested on November 26 but freed by police after three days.

Gulzar Nqavi, a Shia Muslim who joined the protestors, condemned the indifference of the authorities. “Many Christians visit Muslim shrines; they also hang posters of Nalain Pak (sandals of the Prophet Mohammad) in their houses”, he said.

The PMM also issued a press statement demanding the re-arrest of the shopkeeper and announced a continued movement in absence of any action. Continue Reading →

Veena Malik goes missing in Mumbai

Vlad has published a few articles about this wonderfully outspoken and liberated actress before. I hope the obvious has not happened and she has fallen under the influence of religious Muslims.

From IBN LIVE

Mumbai: Controversial Pakistani actress and model Veena Malik has gone missing in Mumbai since Friday morning, her manager said here Saturday.

Shooting for a Bollywood flick, ‘Mumbai 125 kilometres’, at Film City in Goregaon of northwest Mumbai, Malik left in a car after pack-up Friday morning and was not reachable since.

“Veena left after the pack-up yesterday (Friday) morning. In the afternoon, I received an SMS from her where she apologised for not being able to concentrate on the shooting, stating that she was disturbed,” the film’s director Hemant Madhukar said.

“I called her immediately, but her number was not reachable. I have not been able to get in touch with her since,” he added.

Malik’s manager Pratik Mehta also confirmed the development. “I have been trying to reach her since yesterday, but have failed. I have approached the officials at Bandra police station and have sought help in finding the whereabouts of Veena.”

However, the Bandra police denied they have registered a missing person’s complaint for Veena Malik.

Malik came into limelight in 2010 after she testified against her boyfriend, Pakistani fast bowler Mohammed Asif alleging that he was involved in match fixing.

She then garnered more attention after she participated in the fourth season of reality show ‘Bigg Boss’.

She has also been condemned by Islamic clerics for her nude photos in an Indian magazine.

The actress is set to have her ‘swayamvar’ on India’s national television, through Imagine TV, which has earlier hosted swayamvars of Rakhi Sawant, Rahul Mahajan and Ratan Rajput.
