Peter is a quiet, unremarkable school pupil. The sixth year pupil enjoys going to school, but for some time a classmate has been making his life in a Winterthur primary school difficult. This is not a matter of the usual teasing, but is, above, a question of religion. Ali (name changed) wants to convince Peter of his religious ideas and convert him to Islam. The teacher’s attempts to intervene remain without success, resulting in the sensitive Peter showing psychosomatic reactions.

In the 1st class Peter and Ali get on very well. It was not important that 14 of the 19 school pupils had a Muslim background. But later Ali, whose father is a Muslim priest, to give Peter religious instruction. If he was a Muslim, they could be friends, said Ali, whose zeal became ever more marked as time went on.

Saudi to fund mosque construction in Maldives

Saudi Arabia has signed an agreement for $1.7m in free aid for the development of mosques in the Maldives, according to a statement from the Ministry of Islamic Affairs.

The signing, which took place at the Saudi Arabian Embassy in Sri Lanka was attended by the Maldives Ambassador to Sri Lanka, Hussain Shihab as well as Saudi Arabian Ambassador to the Maldives, Abdul Azeez Jammaz.

The Ministry also stated that they will be announcing the location of the proposed mosques in the near future. The Maldives, which is spread over 1,200 islands, officially declared itself as an Islamic state in 1997 and holds a strict position on freedom of religion, banning all faiths other than Islam.

Turkish police use tear gas and water cannons to try to break up a demonstration by tens of thousands of pro-secular protesters, but the march to mark the founding of the Turkish republic went on in defiance of a government ban.
The celebration of the founding of the Turkish republic has in the past few years become a symbol of the divide between Prime Minister Recep Erdogan’s elected, Islamic-leaning government and its opponents who fear the country’s secular traditions are in danger.
The Ankara governor’s office last week denied authorization for the march, citing security reasons, and declared the gathering illegal.
Challenging the ban, tens of thousands of people assembled in the old part of Ankara, near the building housing Turkey’s first parliament, to march to the mausoleum of Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, who founded the secular republic 89 years ago after the collapse of the Ottoman Empire.

Burkha-clad women are being trained to fight by terrorists in the volatile Russian Republic of Chechnya.

This film, posted online by extremists, shows women in the traditional clothes being taught how to wield Kalashnikov assault rifles, machine guns, rocket-propelled grenades and sniper rifles with deadly results.

It is believed the all-female group of fighters was recruited by a group linked to Al-Qaeda that has bases in Pakistan and Afghanistan.

Terrorism experts suspect the women will be used to launch attacks because females are less likely to arouse suspicion among guards at terrorist targets.

The recruitment of women by the insurgent groups has become more common in recent years as it is thought that they are more effective at evading security check points.

But the rise in the numbers of such recruits is likely to lead to greater scrutiny of them from guards becoming wise to the Taliban’s scheme.

Similarly, the group is said to have increased the number of teens and children recruited.

The Salé police force has arrested two individuals belonging to the salafi jihadi movement, while they were preparing an attack against the residence of a clairvoyant in town, according to a communiqué issued by the interior ministry.

This operation which came within the framework of the efforts to fight terrorist crime, sustained by the security services, was carried out based on precise information, the communiqué emphasises.

The two individuals arrested were in possession of two kitchen knives, two hoods, a hammer, two ropes, one of which knotted to serve as a strangler, as also other objects which they expected to be useful for committing their felony.   At the end of the interrogation carried out under supervision of the public prosecutor, the indicted men wil be passed to the judciary, adds the same source.

 

Liberal, secular ‘infidels’ must be prosecuted, says Brotherhood preacher

Liberals, modernists and secularists are infidels and must be brought to trial for abandoning Islam, according to an ultra-conservative preacher in the Muslim Brotherhood.

In a video posted on the YouTube channel of the privately owned newspaper Al-Shorouk newspaper on Sunday, preacher Wagdy Ghoneim said: “If they do not repent, the judge must apply the penalty for apostasy.

“If anyone tells you that he is liberal, tell him directly that he is infidel.”

Earlier this month, Ghoneim caused controversy after issuing a fatwa — an Islamic religious edict — that said joining the Constitution Party, led by Nobel laureate Mohamed ElBaradei, is forbidden by Islam. Calling it an “infidel” party, Ghoneim said he refused to recognize secular, liberal or leftist political movements.

Muslim-Buddhist Conflict in Asia: and how to understand it

Over the last decade, Muslim-Buddhist conflict has escalated in Asia, with casualties on both sides. Although largely forgotten today, the Taliban detonated the giant Buddhas of Bamiyan statues in 2001, six months before the 9/11 attacks. Since then attacks on Buddhist identity and people in Asia has continued. In the last few months, however, the Muslim Rohingya minority of Buddhist Myanmar (Burma) have found themselves the victims of attacks, with possibly as many as 90,000 now having fled and living as refugees. As the intensity of the hostility between Buddhists and Muslims in Asia escalates, it is time to look at the history of the conflict as well as recent events.
Historical Background
The history of the Muslim-Buddhist conflict is a long one. During the eighth century Buddhists, Hindus, and Muslims had lived side by side in Afghanistan in an atmosphere of relative tolerance and interaction. Many Buddhists even converted to Islam, which was more straightforward than the relatively esoteric Buddhist faith, with its doctrine of reincarnation, karma, and deities.

During the ninth century, however, Sunni Turks — new converts to Islam, whose zeal did not leave room for any faith, or interpretation of faith, that vied with their own – launched a sustained attack on the Buddhists and their monasteries, driving them out of Afghanistan, across the Punjab, and into northern India. By 1021, the Buddhists routed the Muslim armies in Kashmir before being attacked again and pushed further into the Himalayas and Tibet. 
Muslim armies conquered much of India, initiating eight centuries of Muslim rule in the traditionally Hindu land. Despite persecutions – especially early on – under the later Moghal Empire (of Muslim rule) much of the better-known aspects of Indian culture was created, from Moghal miniature painting to the Taj Mahal. Sufi Islam — mystical and largely peaceful and ecumenical — also became a large part of the culture. However, the Moghal Empire had virtually collapsed not long after the middle of the eighteenth century, although it lingered 1858, when the British filled the power vacuum, and became the new rulers of India.
The British had already taken over parts of India, and had instituted Warren Hastings as Governor-General in 1773. Hastings respected Indian culture. He learned both Hindi and Persian, and translated the Hindu text the Bhagavad Gita and the Islamic texts Fatawa al-Alamgiri and Hidaya. In Bengal, under Hastings, British employees in the East India Company “went native,” marrying Indian women, learning local languages, and adopting Indian customs.

Boko Haram Confirms Orchestrating Damaturu Bombings, Promises Deadlier And Wider Attacks.

Boko Haram, the Nigeria’s worst headache of more than two years has announced responsibility for attacks earlier in the week in the northern city of Damaturu, Yobe State, during which a minimum of 40 died.

In a patently superfluous email that only corroborated widespread public belief of Boko Haram being the mastermind of the blasts, the group promised deadlier attacks that would summarily overthrow the federal government.

“We assure all that the success of the Damaturu operation is really a sign that very soon, Allah will give us the chance of overthrowing this unjust and heathen government and replacing it with an Islamic system which is just,” a portion of the statement, obtained by Reporters365 on Thursday, reads.

The attack in question got underway on Monday with blasts targeted at security officials and structures in the capital of the state, followed by several hours of fire that spilled into Tuesday afternoon of the following day.

In a related development, the Yobe State government has relaxed by six hours a two-day 24-hour curfew earlier

slammed on Damaturu.

A government statement said that while movement within Damaturu metropolis is now permissible only between 10am and 4pm, movement in Potiskum town would be even more relaxed running to 6am to 6pm. In all other parts of the state, citizens are allowed to exercise their freedom of movement between 10am and 6pm only.

Tajikistan clashes: ‘Many dead’ in Gorno-Badakhshan

At least 42 people including 12 soldiers and 30 rebels have been killed in fighting in the remote Tajik region of Gorno-Badakhshan, state television has reported.

Some unconfirmed reports speak of a far higher level of casualties, with dozens of people being killed in the violence.

It follows the fatal stabbing of a top security forces official on Saturday.

That led to military action against local opposition strongman Tolib Ayombekov, reports say.

Residents of the provincial capital Khorog told the BBC their town now resembled a warzone.

Communications in Gorno-Badakhshan province have now been cut.

People are trapped in their homes because of the heavy fighting in the streets, where armoured vehicles have been seen. Dozens of people have been reported wounded.

A hospital official in the Tajik capital Dushanbe – where some of those injured have been treated – told the BBC’s Central Asian Service that more than 200 people were killed on Tuesday.

Then donate a few dollars to Gavin Boby, the only person actually doing anything to stop construction of more mosques in England and anywhere else he can help. And he is doing it peacefully and legally and perhaps most importantly, using the notion that an Oz. of prevention is so obviously in this case, worth a pound of cure.

…and when you think most Muslims came to the west as refugees from Muslim countries, or even if they were mere migrants and not refugees, you still would expect a modicum of respect, and yes, even gratitude. What you get is riots if they don’t like the food in the refugee camps and this:

It is quite stunning how in the same short scene in one video Choudary can talk about how Islam and sharia will be imposed on all unbelievers no matter how much we like it or do not, and a few breaths later talks about how Muslims are oppressed everywhere as if suddenly that is a bad thing. Clearly he loves oppression. It just has to be by Muslims.

Leaders of the group say the purpose of Belgium’s first Sharia Law court is to create a parallel legal system to challenge the state’s authority as the enforcer of the civil law protections guaranteed by the Belgian constitution.

Police in Amsterdam have arrested the spokesperson of the Islamist group Sharia4Holland on charges of making death threats against the Dutch Freedom Party leader, Geert Wilders.

Abu Qasim was arrested after a speech he gave in Amsterdam’s central Dam Square on May 25 (video in Dutch here), when he warned that Wilders would be “dealt with” once the Netherlands became an Islamic state.

Qasim also called Wilders “this dog of the Romans” and — referring to the Dutch filmmaker and Islam critic who was murdered by a Dutch-Moroccan Muslim in 2004 — warned that Wilders should learn lessons from “the case of Theo van Gogh.”

Amsterdam’s multiculturally-minded police initially refused to intervene in the case. Although making death threats is a criminal offense in Holland, police instead arrested a passer-by who tried to challenge the Sharia4Holland speaker.

Qasim was not arrested until three days after the event, after local politician Robert Flos, speaking on AT5 television, asked Amsterdam’s left-wing mayor, Eberhard van der Laan, why city police did not intervene when Qasim threatened Wilders with death.

Qasim, a 29-year-old Islamist who lives in the central Dutch city of Woerden, is now scheduled to appear in court on July 11.

Sharia4Holland — and its Siamese twin Sharia4Belgium — is a radical Muslim movement that wants to impose Islamic Sharia law in the Netherlands, Belgium and the rest of Europe. Over the past several months, Sharia4Holland and Sharia4Belgium have become increasingly belligerent in their appeals to fellow Muslims to overthrow the democratic order in Europe.

Dutch Justice Minister Ivo Opstelten, in testimony to the Dutch Parliament on May 29, said that radical Muslims are becoming more provocative and activist and “there is a risk that Sharia4Holland supporters could cross the line and use violence.”

Church Row a ‘Dark Time’ for Aceh

Banda Aceh. Another Christian house of worship has been sealed off in Aceh Singkil district, bringing the total since last week to 17 and marking a new low for religious intolerance in the staunchly Muslim province, a rights group said on Wednesday.

Agusta Mukhtar, a spokesman for the group Pro-Democracy People, said it was regrettable that the local authorities had sealed off the buildings following a protest on April 30 by hard-line groups including the Islamic Defenders Front (FPI), which oppose the buildings.

“The religious peace here has been shattered by this anarchistic action that seeks religious domination for an inflexible faith,” he said in a statement. “This is a dark time in the history of religious freedom and tolerance in Aceh.”

Sixteen of the undung-undungs, small houses of worship not categorized as churches, were sealed off by district officials last week, on the pretext they had been built without proper permits. Another was closed off on Tuesday.
