TTC Lacks Security

I am totally shaken. On the subway on my way over to feed Kathy’s cat while they’re away at a funeral, it finally happened. Some deranged 6th Century Mohammedan lost it and began screaming ALLAHU ACKBAR, calling everyone racists, and talking about Bin Laden and rising up.

Like good little sheep, someone pushed the yellow passenger alarm, stopping the train in the station. The little mid-train conductor man stepped out of his booth to see what was happening. We tried explaining to him that there was a potential terrorist on the train wit us, to call the police. Thew little Asian fellow appeared not to understand a damn word we were saying, decided there was nothing to see, and got back on the train.

Meanwhile Mohammed continued to rage about Allah on the platform where many of us stood. (obviously I got off the train – I wasn’t going to stay stuck on there with an Islamic madman). No security came. The train left with Mohammed pounding on the closed doors, saying he had a metropass and a right to free speech (the irony was not lost on me). When the next train came, he got on it.

I would like to know if this is part of the city of Toronto’s protocol to deal with a terrorist threat on the underground. This guy was a lunatic who was unarmed – what if the next one is packing? Will the same level of incoherence apply to TTC staff?

On Campus: The Pro-Palestinian’s Real Agenda

During a recent visit to several university campuses in the U.S., I discovered that there is more sympathy for Hamas there than there is in Ramallah.

Listening to some students and professors on these campuses, for a moment I thought I was sitting opposite a Hamas spokesman or a would-be-suicide bomber.

I was told, for instance, that Israel has no right to exist, that Israel’s “apartheid system” is worse than the one that existed in South Africa and that Operation Cast Lead was launched only because Hamas was beginning to show signs that it was interested in making peace and not because of the rockets that the Islamic movement was launching at Israeli communities.

I was also told that top Fatah operative Marwan Barghouti, who is serving five life terms in prison for masterminding terror attacks against Israeli civilians, was thrown behind bars simply because he was trying to promote peace between Israelis and Palestinians.

Furthermore, I was told that all the talk about financial corruption in the Palestinian Authority was “Zionist propaganda” and that Yasser Arafat had done wonderful things for his people, including the establishment of schools, hospitals and universities.

The good news is that these remarks were made only by a minority of people on the campuses who describe themselves as “pro-Palestinian,” although the overwhelming majority of them are not Palestinians or even Arabs or Muslims.

The bad news is that these groups of hard-line activists/thugs are trying to intimidate anyone who dares to say something that they don’t like to hear.

When the self-designated “pro-Palestinian” lobbyists are unable to challenge the facts presented by a speaker, they resort to verbal abuse.

On one campus, for example, I was condemned as an “idiot” because I said that a majority of Palestinians voted for Hamas in the January 2006 election because they were fed up with financial corruption in the Palestinian Authority.

On another campus, I was dubbed as a “mouthpiece for the Zionists” because I said that Israel has a free media. There was another campus where someone told me that I was a ‘liar” because I said that Barghouti was sentenced to five life terms because of his role in terrorism.

And then there was the campus (in Chicago) where I was “greeted” with swastikas that were painted over posters promoting my talk. The perpetrators, of course, never showed up at my event because they would not be able to challenge someone who has been working in the field for nearly 30 years.

What struck me more than anything else was the fact that many of the people I met on the campuses supported Hamas and believed that it had the right to “resist the occupation” even if that meant blowing up children and women on a bus in downtown Jerusalem.

I never imagined that I would need police protection while speaking at a university in the U.S. I have been on many Palestinian campuses in the West Bank and Gaza Strip and I cannot recall one case where I felt intimidated or where someone shouted abuse at me.

Ironically, many of the Arabs and Muslims I met on the campuses were much more understanding and even welcomed my “even-handed analysis” of the Israeli-Arab conflict. After all, the views I voiced were not much different than those made by the leaderships both in Israel and the Palestinian Authority. These views include support for the two-state solution and the idea of coexistence between Jews and Arabs in this part of the world.

The so-called pro-Palestinian “junta” on the campuses has nothing to offer other than hatred and de-legitimization of Israel. If these folks really cared about the Palestinians, they would be campaigning for good government and for the promotion of values of democracy and freedom in the West Bank and Gaza Strip.

Their hatred for Israel and what it stands for has blinded them to a point where they no longer care about the real interests of the Palestinians, namely the need to end the anarchy and lawlessness, and to dismantle all the armed gangs that are responsible for the death of hundreds of innocent Palestinians over the past few years.

The majority of these activists openly admit that they have never visited Israel or the Palestinian territories. They don’t know -and don’t want to know – that Jews and Arabs here are still doing business together and studying together and meeting with each other on a daily basis because they are destined to live together in this part of the world. They don’t want to hear that despite all the problems life continues and that ordinary Arab and Jewish parents who wake up in the morning just want to send their children to school and go to work before returning home safely and happily.

What is happening on the U.S. campuses is not about supporting the Palestinians as much as it is about promoting hatred for the Jewish state. It is not really about ending the “occupation” as much as it is about ending the existence of Israel.

Many of the Palestinian Authority and Hamas officials I talk to in the context of my work as a journalist sound much more pragmatic than most of the anti-Israel, “pro-Palestinian” folks on the campuses.

Over the past 15 years, much has been written and said about the fact that Palestinian school textbooks don’t promote peace and coexistence and that the Palestinian media often publishes anti-Israel material.

While this may be true, there is no ignoring the fact that the anti-Israel campaign on U.S. campuses is not less dangerous. What is happening on these campuses is not in the frame of freedom of speech. Instead, it is the freedom to disseminate hatred and violence. As such, we should not be surprised if the next generation of jihadists comes not from the Gaza Strip or the mountains and mosques of Pakistan and Afghanistan, but from university campuses across the U.S.

THREE teenage thugs have been caged after subjecting a man to a brutal beating in broad daylight – tackling him to the ground before repeatedly jumping on his head and kicking him.
Sheffield Crown Court was shown shocking CCTV footage of the vicious attack on Craig Rocket, who tried twice to stagger away before stumbling, dazed, to the ground.

Judge John Swanson called the footage “quite horrifying” – and said he had presided over murder cases in which far less violence had been used.

Mr Rocket was on his way home from an afternoon out with friends when trouble erupted outside the bus station in Rotherham town centre as he finished off a cigarette. A gang of around five or six Asian youths started following him and threatening comments were made.

Mr Rocket became so worried he took out his mobile phone to pretend he was talking to a friend, and eventually ran off from the group in fear. But Easem Rariq, aged 19, and Moseeb Zabear, 17, chased after him, along with another teenager, Howis Iqbal, also 17.

Rariq rugby-tackled Mr Rocket to ground before Zabear jumped on his head. Iqbal then joined in, repeatedly kicking Mr Rocket to his body.

Judge Swanson said the level of violence Mr Rocket endured was “almost unbelievable”.

“I have seen a video of what happened which is quite horrifying,” he
told the court. “I have known murder cases where there was considerably less violence used than in this case.” In fact, miraculously, Mr Rocket escaped with only superficial injuries from the attack on September 20 last year.

Rariq, of Boswell Street, Rotherham; Zabear, of Clough Green, Masbrough; and Iqbal, of Shawsfield Road, Broom, Rotherham, all pleaded guilty to attempting to cause grievous bodily harm with intent.

They claimed Mr Rocket had been making racist remarks towards them but no evidence was put before the court.

They were each sentenced to two years in a young offenders institution.

Sam Andrews, defending Zabear, said he was remorseful about what he had done and added personal and professional references showed evidence of a man “in stark contrast” to the thug seen on the CCTV footage.

Dapinder Singh, for Rariq, and Nawaz Hussain, for Iqbal, both said their clients were also remorseful for their actions.

A speech by Hillel Neuer of U.N. Watch given in Ottawa March 17 09

I had the opportunity to go to a lecture by Hillel Neuer of U.N Watch. An organization which all of us certainly should know about if anyone already doesn’t. In fact I brought my Macbook and videotaped the whole thing as I was hoping to post all of, or segments at least of this speech as I was pretty sure it would be a good one. Hillel did not disappoint. Photobooth did. hillel-neuer-and-kofi-annan Memo to all interested, do not use photo booth as a video camera unless you are prepared for crushing disappointment. I got exactly four seconds of it. I did however take some notes. My pen typically works or if it doesn’t I know right away. UN watch is an NGO who occasionally get to speak to the UN on matters which pertain to its various bodies and committees, in this case, the UN Human Rights Council. The lecture was at Carleton University in Ottawa and was attended by about 10 people two of whom where there to protest the speech. Please see videos below of some of the excellent work UN Watch does. Firstly, a word about the United Nations. This is a body of 192 member states. The Human Rights Council has 53 voting members made up from some of the general assembly of the 192 member states. The HRC was created by Eleanor Roosevelt who wrote its charter and mission statement and was in fact, a very good idea. Or at least seemed like it at the time given that it was created shortly after the horrors of Nazi Germany became widely known. The purpose of the HRC was to observe and report on human rights abuses around the world by governments typically against their own citizens. The HRC does not have the power of the sword as the security council does, nor does it have the power of the purse as the general assembly and other UN bodies do, who can fund or stop funding for various groups based on policy. But the HRC has the power of shame. When the UN passes a resolution against human rights abuses, it makes news and brings focus and attention to issues that might otherwise go unnoticed. As a consequence, strange alliances are made at the UN-HRC. There is a body within the UN called the OIC or, ‘Organization of Islamic Councils’ or alternatively, ‘Organization of Islamic Countries’ who of course represent a couple of things. One, the interests of Islam and protection of Islamic goals agendas sensitivities and so on and perhaps more importantly, protect states which are totalitarian, have no basic rights for their own citizens or any similarities to free democracies as we in the west and the Anglosphere would know them. As a consequence, nations rather famous for being atheist and working against religion and religious ideologies tend to vote with the OIC such as Cuba, Venezuela, Russia, China or any other communist or socialist totalitarian state. It turns out, the anti religious sentiments of communist nations is a distant second to protecting their dictatorships and making sure that the notion of real individual human rights or individualism at all in fact, never manages to sneak into the human rights council of the United nations. In other words, the UNHRC works actively against any form of human rights whatsoever. Darfur springs lightly to mind. Roosevelt would be hemmoraging from the spleen if she was at a typical UNHRC meeting today. In theory, the Human Rights Commission was created to have the opportunity to speak truth to power. This goes back to the idea of shame as it’s only real tool as referred to above. But then we have the case of John Ziegler. From Reason.com:

As media coverage of Falk’s nomination has metastasized, it has unfortunately obscured news of UN-HRC’s nomination of the Swiss socialist Jean Ziegler to the UN Human Rights Council Advisory Committee. A brief recapitulation of Ziegler’s qualifications: In 1996, he defended Holocaust denier Roger Garaudy not only on free speech grounds—an admirable position, after all—but further celebrated his supposed scholarship. “All your work as a writer and philosopher,” Ziegler wrote, “attests to the rigor of your analysis and the unwavering honesty of your intentions. It makes you one of the leading thinkers of our time.” He lauded the Zimbabwean tyrant Robert Mugabe, a leader who “has history and morality with him.” He offered his “total support for the Cuban revolution.” He recently told a Lebanese newspaper the he “refuse[d] to describe Hezbollah as a terrorist organization. It is a national movement of resistance.” Then there’s Ziegler’s friendship with Libyan dictator Moammar Kaddafi. In 1989, according to a report in Neue Zurcher Zeitung (one that confirms research done by UN Watch), Ziegler helped establish the Kaddafi Prize for Human Rights. In 2002, Ziegler himself received the prize, which he shared with, among others, Roger Garaudy. Previous recipients include Fidel Castro, Louis Farrakhan, and Hugo Chavez.

So we have a fellow, influential in the UNHRC, who created a human rights prize, named after a well known brutal dictator, who then accepted his own prize shortly after. Not a very illustrious record for a prize I would say. Even the most amateur performer knows not to clap for himself.

Then we have the GONGO’s. “What’s a gongo” you may ask? “I don’t even fully understand what an NGO is yet”.  Welcome to the club. A GONGO is a governmental organization designed to appear to be a non governmental one. A GONGO is a shill, dressed up like an NGO but representing actual fascist dictators. They are apparently, all the rage at the UNHRC. Everyone has one from Cuba to China and of course, the Sudan. The idea is, they celebrate all the worst actions of each nation who hires them. “Genocide? I don’t see no genocide everyone in Darfur is happy and fulfilled”.  They manage to add noise to proceedings so that any attempt to actually bring notice shame or attention to the outrages perpetrated by the worst human rights abusers on earth are drowned out in celebration. The one thing the GONGO’s, the John Ziegler people and the dictators all agree on? The US is evil for one, and Israel is the only place they can all safely pass condemnatory resolutions on.

Another word on Ziegler, he was appointed the UN HRC expert on hunger. Oh, before I forget, he was also a good friend and admirer of Robert Mugabe. Who is Mugabe? well of course he is the president for life of Zimbabwe formerly Rhodesia and the cause of most of the worlds hunger. Rhodesia was in fact the bread basket of Africa. A major net exporter of food. Mugabe drove out all the farmers so he could give the land and material wealth to his friends. The excuse was, the farmers where white and hence colonists although most of them if not all had been multi generational for decades to centuries. His friends of course mostly grew a crop of marijuana if they grew anything at all, sold off the equipment and buggered off to Europe.

I suppose this would make Ziegler an expert on hunger. One would hope though that his expertise was based on alieviating it rather than causing it as Mugabe indisputably did.

As the time of NGO’s to speak to the UNHRC is limited, the job of the GONGO’s is to use it up so that real NGO’s really can’t get  much of a word in. They are effective at this we are told by UN Watch.

The last point is the activities of the chair of the UNHRC. The chair of course is acutely aware of who will cause embarrassment to the totalitarian states. And the chair picks who can and cannot speak, and can stop any speaker on points of order which, as you can easily see from the videos, is to make sure no embarrassment falls on exactly who the UN and the UNHRC was intended by design, to if not stop, at least embarras.

I reported yesterday on the latest wave of incendiary violence that has engulfed Rosengård, the Muslim-dominated suburb of Malmö in southern Sweden. Our Swedish correspondent CB has translated a report about a violent incident in Rosengård that took place back in December. It’s a reminder that the anarchy in Malmö is really non-stop — there’s always a certain level of violence simmering; it just flares up into major incidents from time to time.

First, here’s CB’s prefatory note:

Malmö riotsI just read this article in Skånskan about riots in Rosengård. The article is a bit fuzzy about when it occurred, but it shows a thuggish backside of the riots. It’s interesting that the media have been highlighting the fact that people from AFA and other Leftist groups have been part of this, and made it to look in some instances as if this was a problem from the outside, one that gave Rosengård and the “youths” there a bad reputation.

Since this article is replete with the code-word “youth”, one has to surmise that this mob-behavior is in fact local and not AFA’s handiwork. Death-threats and rape-threats and dog-shootings for not partaking in riots are a new addition to Swedish headlines.

The article says the date was December last year, but sounds at the end like its more recent. Either way, it gives you a pretty ugly picture of the things going down in Malmö and Rosengård.

I’m not sure whether the reference at the end to the gang is to the 21-year-old’s buddies or to the 28-year-old. If the former, it might be a sign of health still existing in people’s hearts, them feeling he went too far. If it’s the 28-year-old’s friend, well, that would be to be expected. Just note the infamous: “youths” everywhere in the text. Since no one is falling for it anymore, it might be a good time to get a new newspeak word. No?

This is the Malmö soup that Mayor Reepalu and the Left have been cooking for a long time. This is the same Reepalu who didn’t want Sweden to play tennis against Israel under any circumstances — he said: “It is the state of Israel we are talking about!” But he gladly allows Swedish schoolchildren to partake in an exchange programs with Saudi-Arabia, so one must believe he regards them as a beacon of light compared to Israel.

In violation of the Swedish constitution, by trying to make foreign policy, he actually gives support to terror-mongers like Iran, Hezbollah, and Hamas. Whose co-religionists chant of killing and expelling the Jews in Sweden and elsewhere, one can assume. That is also a violation of Swedish laws, but since they seem to apply less and less in Malmö, perhaps Reepalu is getting what he’s worked for.

A sad thing is that people in Malmö who did not ask for it got Reepalu’s soup as well.

Did not want to participate in riots — got his dog shot

First the 21-year-old pointed the loaded gun at the 28-year-old — and after that he shot the man’s dog. It was the punishment for refusing to participate in the riots in Rosengård.

On the evening of the 18th of December last year the unrest had turned into full riots in Rosengård, Malmö. Several hundred youths roamed the suburb committing arson and throwing rocks at busses and cars.

A 28-year-old man and his friends walked along Ramels road and watched the events curiously. With them was the man’s dog.

All of a sudden some youths approached the party. The youths encouraged the men to participate and pick a “scrap with the police”. Among other things they suggested that the 28-year-old set the dog on the police. When he refused one of the youth pulled a loaded gun on him. He placed it at the 28-year-old’s head.

“I will kill you and rape your wife,” said the 21-year-old youth.

The dog had been anxious earlier, but became enraged now and tried to attack the armed youth.

The 21-year-old took one step back, lowered the weapon and shot the dog in the neck.

“Next time it’s your turn,” said the youth, and ran away.

The 28-year-old and his friend called the police, although they had a hard time getting to the place because of the unrest.

Finally a patrol showed up and determined that the dog was dead. The patrol was then ordered to move to another location, after which the 28-year-old and his friends were left by themselves.

Shortly afterwards the 21-year-old and the other youth returned. They put the dog in a plastic bag and took it with them. Later the 28-year-old learned that they had thrown the dog in a burning container.

The next day the 28-year-old went to the police and made formal charges. It led to the arrest of the 21-year-old and two of his friends were also arrested, booked and incarcerated. His friends were released after a while.

The 21-year-old youth has been kept in custody, and on Wednesday he was charged with serious weapons crimes, serious unlawful threat, and damage of property — to shoot the dog is in this case labeled as serious damage of property.

The 21-year-old denies the crimes. This, even though several other youths in the gang witnessed his shooting of the dog.

Amina and Sarah Said were murdered by their father, Yaser Said, on New Year’s Day 2008, because they had non-Muslim boyfriends. Yaser Said has never been caught. Islam Said, the girls’ brother, has apparently gone to Egypt, where he has been sending a series of unhinged comments to the blog Combatting Moonbat News, threatening to murder the girls’ aunt, Gail Gartrell (whom the moronic boy addresses as “gall”). These are by no means the first of these murderous threats, but they are the latest, coming in last week:

Watch this video and read this article. More to come on this. According to a highly reputable source who was actually at this meeting, it went on till 2:45 AM and the serious issues addressed and which occurred at this ‘meeting’ was not even covered by the media. I hope to get those events written out here later tonight.

Imagine facing the overwhelming odds of fighting for equality in Islamic supremacist Saudi Arabia or in the 1960s-era white supremacist Mississippi.

These were the same odds faced by a handful of activists in challenging the estimated 600 supporters of the Islamic Saudi Academy at Northern Virginia’s Fairfax County Planning Commission on the night of March 18, 2009. Many hundreds of the Islamic Saudi Academy (ISA) supporters wore printed name tag badges reading “I Support ISA,” including ISA’s logo containing the emblem of Saudi Arabian government with its two crossed swords.

This is the same Saudi government that a few weeks ago the U.S. State Department condemned for its “significant human rights problems” in denying basic freedoms and human rights to men, women, and non-Muslims, and the same Saudi government whose courts recently sentenced a 75 year old woman to 40 lashes for “mingling” with men, and whose courts recently sentenced a pregnant gang-rape victim to 100 lashes for “adultery.”

The meeting of the Fairfax County Government Planning Commission was to consider a special exemption to a zoning regulation to allow for the building of an expansion to the Islamic Saudi Academy in Fairfax, Virginia. The Fairfax County government has been leasing space for the existing Saudi Academy facilities for years now. As a suburb of Washington DC, Fairfax, Virginia is slightly more than 20 miles away from our nation’s capital. The Islamic Saudi Academy has been frequently criticized for its reported use of textbooks promoting hate and violence, its former students associated with jihad plots, reports of negligence on reporting female child sex abuse, and ISA’s former valedictorian convicted of joining Al-Qaeda and plotting to assassinate the president.

Three of Bakri’s extremist disciples, who want to establish Sharia law in the UK, told the press conference at a hotel in East London they agreed with every word he said. They compared British soldiers fighting in Iraq to the suicide bombers who blew up 52 innocents on July 7, 2005.

Firebrand Anjem Choudary, a self-styled ‘judge of the Sharia Court of the UK’ said: ‘You only need to look at the wills of the 7/7 attackers to see why they did what they did. They did it for reasons we still see today, the vilification of Muslims.’ He condemned British soldiers but refused to condemn the 7/7 bombers, insisting: ‘You have to look at the root causes of their actions.’

Last week the Daily Mail exposed 42-year-old fundamentalist Choudary’s student days when he was pictured swigging beer, leering at pornographic images, cavorting with women and puffing on a cannabis joint – offences for which he would be lashed and stoned under his version of Sharia law.

He sheepishly confessed: ‘It is wrong to talk about your previous sins but I say, yes, I was not always practising Islam. Certainly in my student days I was not a practising Muslim. If you grow up in Britain, then most likely your instincts and desires will be exploited by the society in which you live.’

Sitting alongside him, Ishtiaq Alamgir, another ringleader of the shameful Luton protests, accused British soldiers of torture, rape and murder. He said: ‘Those British soldiers have blood on their hands. People say the soldiers were just doing their jobs, but the same could be said of the 7/7 attacks because they were following the orders of Sheikh Osama Bin Laden.’

The 29-year-old, who is unemployed and claiming benefits, demanded soldiers quit rather than allow themselves to be sent to Iraq and Afghanistan, adding: ‘They are taking part in an illegal war. We will continue regardless of how many people get upset or offended. The truth must prevail, we will keep calling for the truth until it is established or we are killed.’

A third firebrand, software programmer Abu Abdullah, 30, branded the British Government ‘tyrannical’ and warned: ‘Do not relax, do not recline, or you will be touched by the fire of hell.’

In an astonishing diatribe, Mr Choudary claimed Sharia law was the only way to fix Britain’s ills, and claimed people such as Business Secretary Lord Mandelson, who is gay, should be stoned to death for practising homosexuality.

He said of the peer: ‘If a man likes another man, it can happen, but if you go on to fulfil your desire, if it is proved, then there is a punishment to follow. You don’t stone to death unless there are four eyewitnesses. It is a very stringent procedure. There are some people who are attracted to donkeys but that does not mean it is right.’

Rejecting democracy and the rule of law in Britain, he said there was no point in standing for election to test his call for Sharia law with voters.

He said: ‘We can’t participate in the system of man-made law. It is not up to Parliament to decide what is lawful. There is no reason to discuss the laws because the laws have already been decided, by Allah.’

Mr Choudary complained he was regularly told he could ‘leave Britain’ if he did not like it here.

Friends of Mr Choudary from his days at Southampton University say they do not recognise the party-loving student they knew as ‘Andy’.

One former friend said: ‘I can’t keep a straight face when I see “fundamentalist Muslim Anjem Choudary” in the papers attacking the British for drinking or having girlfriends.
When I knew him, he liked to be called Andy, would often smoke cannabis spliffs all day, and was proud of his ability to down a pint of cider in a couple of seconds.’

Local Catholics and Protestants fear for their future; some are starting to leave the region. Taliban militia leader threatens new judges; anyone not applying Sharia correctly will be removed from office immediately.

Peshawar (AsiaNews) – Sharia courts have begun to administer justice in the Swat Valley. With Sharia in place in Malakand area, women are no longer allowed to go out unaccompanied or speak in public. They must also cover their heads. Girls’ schools, essentially run by missionaries, could close for good, especially after recent bomb attacks. Although no one was injured in the blasts, about a thousands girls are now unable to go to class, about 95 per cent of whom are Muslim.The future of the region’s Catholics and Protestants, who number around a thousand, is grim. Many of them are labourers and street sweepers, but some work in hospitals and a few teach in missionaries-run schools. All of them fear discrimination and many have begun packing up to move to areas where Sharia is not enforced. .

Since the start of the year the Taliban have carried out hundreds of attacks against schools, video and CD stores and barber shops and all other activities they claim to be un-Islamic.

With the implementation of Nizam-e-Adl Regulations 2009, civilian courts no longer have jurisdiction in this area and have been replaced by Qazi (Islamic) courts and Qazis (Islamic judges).

More specifically seven courts are now in place in the Swat Valley after Tehreek-i-Nafaz-i-Shariat-i-Muhammadi (TNSM) Taliban militias and the government of President Asif Ali Zardari reached an agreement to that effect. The Lower and Upper Dir districts, Buner, Malakand Agency, Shangla, Kohistan and Chitral districts are now under Sharia law.

North West Frontier Province (NWFP) Communication Minister Iftikhar Hussain said that the aforementioned courts will be the models other districts will follow when they will implement Sharia. This way the latter can come into effect without presidential approval.

In announcing the start of the new courts TSNM chief Maulana Sufi Muhammad said that Islamic courts will come under a new supreme court, the Darul Qaza. Two of its three qazis have already been selected; the third one will be designated in the near future.

Sufi Muhammad also said that if qazis do not correctly implement Sharia they will be replaced.

This has led the High Court in Peshawar to express concerns with respect to the TSNM chief’s threats, calling on NWFP authorities to ensure the safety of the judges.

Kidnapped Canadian says she will be killed

A Canadian woman being held hostage in northern Pakistan says her captors are planning to behead her at the end of the month if a ransom isn’t paid. In a video posted on the Globe and Mail’s website, a pale and haggard-looking Beverly Giesbrecht, 52, begins to cry as says her “time is very short.” “I’m going to be killed. As you can see,” said Giesbrecht pointing at a long knife hanging behind her, “I’m going to be beheaded just like the Polish engineer (Piotr Stanczak), probably by the end of the month.” The former West Vancouver resident was kidnapped in November along with three guides. Giesbrecht, who’s now known as Khadija Abdul Qahaar after converting to Islam, was taken while travelling to record video for a British journalist.

Last September, a Vancouver woman named Beverly Giesbrecht published her personal reflections on the anniversary of the 9/11 terror attacks.

Giesbrecht, 52, used the opportunity to celebrate militant Islam. She talked about the “good news” that the Taliban in Afghanistan were killing NATO soldiers and she praised the “Iraqi Resistance” for killing Americans. The real enemy, she said, was “Zionist-controlled America,” and she called upon the Muslim Ummah — the worldwide Islamic community — to form a united front.

Canadian security officials undoubtedly read Giesbrecht’s manifesto, because they would have been monitoring her Internet site, one of the few openly pro-Islamist sites operating out of Canada. Giesbrecht has exactly the biography that would draw the attention of intelligence authorities.

According to her writings, she was ignorant of Islam until 9/11. The attacks captivated her, and she started living on the Internet, reading everything she could about al-Qaeda. “I remember sitting at five in the morning, exhausted … staring at the face of Osama bin Laden,” she wrote. “This man does not have the face of a cold-blooded killer.”

She started travelling to Egypt, Malaysia and other parts of the Muslim world, eventually converting to Islam and adopting the name Khadija Abdul Qahaar. There is no evidence that she has ever committed a crime, or is capable of doing so, but her evolution into a jihadist spokeswoman was a textbook narrative of radicalization.

Shortly after Giesbrecht wrote her reflections on 9/11 last fall, she was kidnapped near the Afghanistan-Pakistan border, where she had gone to meet with and film the Taliban. The Taliban proved more unwelcoming than she expected, and this week a video surfaced of her pleading for help.

Police in Malmö claim a recent wave of deliberately set fires in the city’s heavily-immigrant Rosengård neighbourhood constitutes an act of retaliation for recent arrests.

Almost every night this week, emergency services in Malmö have had to contend with young people throwing rocks, bottles, and eggs as crews ventured into Rosengård to put out fires set around the neighbourhood.

Late Thursday night into Friday, several dumpsters and a communal recycling station were set ablaze. Around 40 police officers were called in before firefighters could begin putting out the fire.

There were no injuries, although two young people were detained for refusing to move when instructed.

Police have made significant strides recently in neutralizing some of the more influential criminals in the crowded neighbourhood.

“According to our intelligence, the fires and stone throwing are directed toward us. The trigger is that we’ve succeeded in picking up five important figures from the criminal network which is ravaging the area. They are now being subject to a number of measures,” said Börje Aronsson of the Rosengård neighbourhood police force to the TT news agency.

Prior to Thursday night’s fires, people have set fire to cars, as well as rubbish bins in stairwells and basements, only to launch attacks on firefighters when they arrive to extinguish the flames.

In addition to firefighters, park and road workers and other contractors have also had rocks thrown at them.

Aronsson attributes the violence in part to the crowded living conditions in the area as well as the social exclusion that results.

“Rosengård is built for 5,400 people. But between 8,000 and 9,000 people live here. Children and young people don’t stay at home but instead are out late into the evenings and sometimes well into the middle of the night,” he said.

In the most troubled section of the area, Herrgården, adult employment stands at 86 percent, leaving most of the residents dependent on social welfare payments.

“That’s a catastrophic figure,” said Aronsson.

No compulsion in religion? Oh really

One of the common arguments i hear in defence of Islam and its inculcation to the west has been the soothing idea that there is no compulsion in Islam. However, recent evidence suggests this may not be the case. Readers of Vlad will be aware of the massive horrors in Swat and parts of Pakistan where those who are not Muslim or often even those who are Muslim but insufficiently devout, or devout not in the proscribed manner are tortured and or killed.

However more and more accounts are coming from Eastern Europe where whole villages are being forced to Islam or more conservative Islam. Here is a small report on the village of Ribnovo in Bulgaria where children are forced to mosque:

Despite Bulgaria’s European Union membership, some regions of the country need a second liberation from Ottoman yoke, the Bulgarian Member of the Parliament (MP), Yane Yanev, stated, cited by the Bulgarian news agency, BGNES.Yanev, who is the leader of the opposition “Order, Law, Justice” Party (RZS) spoke Monday in Blagoevgrad as reported by the local BGNES correspondent.

The leaders of RZS visited Monday several villages in Southern Bulgaria to meet with alarmed teachers and parents, who have presented concrete evidence of the imposed conversion to fundamentalist Islam in the region.

The example of the village of Ribnovo, in the Gurmen municipality, has been presented as the most striking one. In Ribnovo, the school principal, Feim Issa, had imposed full dictatorship on the teaching staff, forcing them to wear traditional Muslim clothes, and encouraging female student to the same. Issa has been illegally appointed as principal with help of the local mosque’s leaders and is actively supporting the religion teacher at the school, Murat Boshnak. Boshnak is, reportedly, an individual with suspicious past and unclear educational background. He is not holding even a Bulgarian high school diploma, but has graduated from a religious school in Skopje, Macedonia. Ribnovo residents allege that Boshnak has specialized in Saudi Arabia and is forcefully making parents to sign requests for their children to study the Islam. He is also demanding that children address him as “aga’ instead of “gospodin” (Mister), had prohibited girls from attending the last prom in civil attire and issued a ban on celebrations. Boshnak later organized a trip to Turkey with funds from an Arab foundation. Only one girl had attended the prom. Parents, who refuse to follow the fundamentalist rules, are being cursed during services in the local mosque.

While Muslims may not say that killing or torturing those who would convert away from Islam is compulsion to religion, I do. Because it is. Here is a recent example of Libya torturing and killing a number of people who converted to Christianity for leaving Islam. Once again, any attempt to separate the notion of ‘apostasy’ and compulsion to Islam is playing word games.

TRIPOLI, LIBYA (Worthy News) — Libya’s feared intelligence service has “detained and tortured” four Christians for converting from Islam, as part of a wider crackdown on people embracing Christianity, human rights group said in comments monitored by Worthy News Thursday, March 12.

U.S.-based International Christian Concern (ICC) said the believers, whose names were not identified, were imprisoned for the past seven weeks in Tripoli, Libya’s capital.

“Libya’s External Security Organization is believed to be behind the detention and torture of the Christians” ICC said, citing local sources.
