The image of Aisha, 19, without a nose, prompted a worldwide outpouring of sympathy after it appeared on the cover of Time Magazine accompanying an article highlighting the plight of women in Afghanistan.

She appeared before the cameras to receive an Enduring Heart award at a benefit for the Grossman Burn Foundation, which paid for her surgery, in Los Angeles.

Maria Shriver, wife of Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger’s and California’s first lady, presented the award.

“This is the first Enduring Heart award given to a woman whose heart endures and who shows us all what it means to have love and to be the enduring heart,” Miss Shriver said.

Aisha, whose surname has never been disclosed, responded: “Thank you so much.”

When Aisha was 12, her father vowed to repay a debt by promising her in marriage to a Taliban fighter. She was handed over to the fighter’s family, abused and made to sleep in a stable with animals.

She was caught after trying to escape and her nose and ears were sliced off by her husband as a punishment.

“When they cut off my nose and ears, I passed out,” she told CNN. “In the middle of the night it felt like there was cold water in my nose. I opened my eyes and I couldn’t even see because of all the blood.”

After being left for dead in the mountains, she crawled to her grandfather’s house and was taken to an American medical facility.

Following time time at a shelter in Kabul, she was flown to the US by the Grossman Burn Foundation in August and stayed with an American family.

This month, she had a prosthetic nose fitted at the West Hills Hospital. Dr Peter H Grossman said they hoped to give Aisha a more “permanent solution”.

This might involve rebuilding her nose and ears using bone, tissue and cartilage from other parts of her body.

11 foreign nations sue the US state of Arizona for refusing to allow ILLEGAL immigration

This has to be a new level of absurdity and sedition by Obama. It is actually hard to type that. The President of the USA, it would appear, is in collusion with foreign nations to undermine a US state which is attempting to preserve it’s own American character.

Times Square bomber took oath, didn’t mean it

I’m surprised the media was allowed to report this. After all, it gives the impression that Muslims may say they believe in Western Civilization and it’s laws, but really, are planning to kill us and undermine all we have built. Maybe because this is Canadian media, or maybe this came out before they can do damage control at CAIR and the White House. Anyway, interesting report I think.

The Fraud Case against CAIR Advances

From The Iconoclast:

The Fraud Case against CAIR Advances

The Federal District Court in Washington, DC today ruled in favor of five African American and Pakistani American Muslims seeking damages from the Council American Islamic Relations, (CAIR) for committing fraud. Judge Paul Friedman of the DC District Court ruled against dismissal of an action brought by Muslim plaintiffs against CAIR, a Muslim brotherhood front and one of several unindicted co-conspirators in the Federal Dallas Holy Land Foundation Trial.
An earlier RICO action brought against CAIR by the same plaintiffs was rejected by the federal court in DC on technical grounds although it acknowledged that fraud was committed by CAIR.
A Center for Security Policy news release noted today’s important ruling;
Federal judge Paul Friedman in the U.S. District Court in the District of Columbia has denied a motion to dismiss complaints by five former clients of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR).
CAIR had adivsked federal court judge Paul L. Friedman to dismiss the fraud cases on several grounds, but the judge refused CAIR’s request in its entirety. (Judge Friedman did dismiss one duplicative claim of consumer fraud based on D.C. law because he allowed an identical claim under Virginia law, ruling that Virginia law applied in the case).
The five former clients had earlier this year filed two separate lawsuits in federal court alleging common law and statutory fraud, breach of fiduciary duty, and intentional infliction of emotional distress against CAIR, a self-described Muslim public interest civil rights law firm. These two lawsuits follow an earlier lawsuit which had also alleged that CAIR’s fraudulent conduct amounted to racketeering, a federal RICO crime. In that case, the court dismissed the RICO counts concluding that CAIR’s conduct as alleged was fraudulent but not a technical violation of RICO.
The two new federal civil complaints were filed in the federal district court for the District of Columbia on January 6, 2010, and served on January 13, 2010.  CAIR filed its motion to dismiss on February 26, 2010, and the matter was fully briefed by May 15, 2010.
In November, 2008, we published the factual background for these fraud cases brought against CAIR in an article, “Is CAIR’s 2010 Strategy Plan a Fiasco?” The article concerned the discovery of incriminating CAIR documents by intrepid undercover investigator, David Gaubatz, co-author of Muslim Mafia. A Guide for the Perplexed Parent—Countering Public School Indoctrination on Islam (Updated)

A Guide for the Perplexed Parent—Countering Public School Indoctrination on Islam (Updated)

September 25th, 2010 by Andrew Bostom |

As parents, we have a moral obligation to our children and our Western heritage to combat the corrosive indoctrination on Islam that currently passes for “Islamic education” in public school curricula. That effort must begin by providing our children ready home access to objective, unapologetic Western scholarship on Islam, such as the Shorter Encyclopedia of Islam.

The Texas Board of Education issued a press release, Friday 9/24/10, which included a self-described “most debated item on the board’s Friday agenda”—a non-binding resolution that barely passed by a 7-6 vote, with two members absent. The resolution concludes with the statement that the board,

…will look to reject future prejudicial social studies submissions that continue to offend Texas law with respect to treatment of the world’s major religious groups by significant inequalities of coverage spacewise and/or by demonizing or lionizing one or more of them over others.

Additional media reports of the resolution adopted Friday maintained it cited “…politically-correct whitewashes of Islamic culture and stigmas on Christian civilization…” in current textbooks, while warning that, “…more such discriminatory treatment of religion may occur as Middle Easterners buy into the US public school textbook oligopoly.”

But defenders of the textbooks in question, such as the Rev. Bobbi Kaye Jones, superintendent of the Austin District of the United Methodist Church, representing the Texas Freedom Network, an interfaith group of religious leaders, insisted,

Realistic information takes a back seat to religious intolerance [in Texas], and education suffers a blow.

And Imam Islam Mossaad of the North Austin Muslim Community Center, affirming the “objectivity” of the textbooks in question,  stated,

Our children’s textbooks must treat all religions accurately and fairly.

Gilbert Sewall, although critical of the reasoning in the Texas School Board resolution, was favorably inclined toward its intent. Sewall is founder of the American Textbook Council, a nonprofit that reviews history and social studies textbooks utilized in U.S. schools. His organization issued a comprehensive, evidenced-based 2008 report entitled,  “Islam in the Classroom—What the Textbooks Tell Us”.

This 2008 report observed, prominently, that the deficiencies in Islam-related lessons were uniquely disturbing, with history textbooks presenting, “ an incomplete and confected view of Islam that misrepresents its foundations and challenges to international security.” Among textbooks copyrighted before 2001, “deficiencies” regarding Islam, “ persist and in some cases have grown worse.” Sewall also maintained that publishers and editors in lieu of making corrections or adjusting contested facts,

…defend misinformation and content evasions against the record. Biases persist. Silences are profound and intentional. Particular fault rests with the publishing corporations, boards of directors, and executives who decide what editorial policies their companies will pursue. Publishers have learned of contested facts and have had the time to correct imbalances. But instead of making changes, they have sustained errors or, in deliberate acts of self-censorship, have removed controversial material.”

And Sewall concluded the 2008 report with this appropriate, but as yet unaddressed warning:

Islamic activists use multiculturalism and ready-made American political movements, especially those on campus, to advance and justify the makeover of Islam-related textbook content.

Responding to the current Texas Board of Education resolution controversy, Sewall opined,

My complaint is the misinformation and selected information that attend chapters on Islam. The resolution is correct that textbooks routinely doctor the meaning of jihad (or fail to cover it) and that Muslim intolerance/military aggression, (is) soft-pedaled or excised.

And Sewall reiterated his 2008 concerns about the corrosive impact of cultural relativism, which he argued undermines the ability to defend ourselves against jihadism. The publishing industry, he stated,  …

…[R]esists ugly facts about Islam…From what they read in history textbooks, students and teachers are not likely to grasp why the United States and its allies consider militant Islam an enemy.

The raging textbook controversy in Texas, because of the Lone Star State’s purchasing power, will ultimately affect textbooks distributed across the country. But regardless of which side prevails, and the content of such textbooks, revised or not, I suggest a modest proposal to help resolve this dilemma for concerned parents. As a small investment in our children’s (and their parents’) objective education about Islam, purchase your household a copy of the Shorter Encyclopedia of Islam (used from $30.00; new at $140.00 to $143.20).

Originally published in 1953, and edited by the eminent scholars of Islam, H.A. R. Gibb and J.H. Kramers, this single volume includes all the articles contained in the first edition and supplement of the nine-volume classic Brill Encyclopedia of Islam, pertaining, in particular, to the religion and law of Islam. The Shorter Encyclopedia of Islam remains an unequalled—and unbowdlerized—reference work.

Consider the Shorter Encyclopedia of Islam entry on jihad (spelled “djihad”)—arguably the most important single subject today’s students must grasp about Islam. The concise discussion of jihad was written by Duncan B. MacDonald (1863-1933), a very sympathetic scholar of Islam, renowned for his seminal analyses on the development of Muslim theology and jurisprudence. Here are MacDonald’s key observations about the nature and conduct of jihad, which he defines with doctrinal and historical accuracy, as “holy war”:

[H]oly war. The spread of Islam by arms is a religious duty upon Muslims in general…This position was reached gradually but quickly. In the Meccan Suras [chapters] of the Koran patience under attack is taught; no other attitude was possible. But at Medina the right to repel attack appears, and gradually it became a prescribed duty to fight against and subdue the hostile Meccans. Whether Muhammad himself recognized that his position implied steady and unprovoked war against the unbelieving world until it was subdued to Islam may be in doubt. Traditions [especially the hadith, the canonical collections of Muhammad’s words and deeds recorded by his most pious Muslim companions] are explicit on the point; but the Koranic passages speak always of the unbelievers who are to be subdued as dangerous or faithless. Still, the story of his writing to the powers around him shows that such a universal position was implicit in his mind, and it certainly developed after his death, when the Muslim armies advanced out of Arabia. It is now a fard ala l-kifaya, a duty in general on all male, free, adult Muslims, sane in mind and body and having means enough to reach the Muslim army, yet not a duty necessarily incumbent on every individual but sufficiently performed when done by a certain number. So it must continue to be done until the whole world is under the rule of Islam…

The people against whom the jihad is directed must first be invited to embrace Islam. On refusal they have another choice. They may submit to Muslim rule, become dhimmis and pay jizya and kharadj [specific taxes imposed on the vanquished non-Muslims—the former, in lieu of being slain] or fight. In the first case, their lives, families and property are assured to them, but they have a definitely inferior status, with no technical citizenship, and a standing only as protected wards. If they fight, they and their families may be enslaved and all their property seized as booty, four-fifths of which goes to the conquering army. If they embrace Islam…they become part of the Muslim community with all its rights and duties. Apostates must be put to death. But if a Muslim country is invaded by unbelievers, the Imam [Muslim sovereign] may issue a general summons calling all Muslims there to arms, and as the danger grows so may the width of the summons until the whole Muslim world is involved. A Muslim who dies fighting in the Path of Allah (fi sabil Allah) is a martyr (shahid) and is assured of Paradise and of peculiar privileges there [a genteel reference to the willing virgins awaiting jihad martyrs]. Such a death was in the early generations, regarded as the peculiar crown of a pious life. It is still, on occasions, a strong incitement….

MacDonald concludes his Shorter Encyclopedia of Islam entry on jihad—published in the mid-1930s—with this warning, relevant then, and now:

Even yet, however, any war between Muslims and non-Muslims must be a jihad with its incitements and rewards…[T]he Muslim masses still follow the unanimous voice of the canon lawyers [Muslim clerics]. Islam must be completely made over before the doctrine of jihad can be eliminated.

Two obituaries (published in the New York Times, and Yale News) from 2003 for Yale Professor Franz Rosenthal—the Sterling Professor Emeritus of Arabic—highlighted his escape from Nazi totalitarianism. Rosenthal’s work included lucid, timeless analyses of Islamic “martyrdom” vs. suicide, and the antithetical Islamic and Western conceptions of “freedom.” Franz Rosenthal also wrote an obituary for the Austrian-born US scholar Gustave E. Von Grunebaum (1909-1972) which included these observations about von Gruenbaum’s seminal contributions, and uncompromising standards:

Rioting in Pakistan over 86 year sentence of Aafia Siddiqui

Pakistan erupts after US jailing of ‘daughter of the nation’ Aafia Siddiqui

Thousands take to the streets to protest as scientist convicted of attempting to kill US soldiers gets 86 years.

Pakistan protests Pakistani protesters burning tyres in Lahore. Photograph: Arif Ali/AFP/Getty ImagesPakistan‘s prime minister hailed a scientist convicted of attempting to kill American soldiers as the “daughter of the nation” today, and vowed to redouble efforts to secure her return to Pakistan.

Thousands of protesters took to the streets after a New York court sentenced Aafia Siddiqui, a US-educated neuroscientist and mother of three, to 86 years in jail.

Police fired teargas and scuffled with protesters surging towards the heavily fortified US consulate in her hometown, Karachi.

In Multan people burned posters of Barack Obama and the former ruler General Pervez Musharraf.

At least 5,000 people attended the largest, and most peaceful, rally in Peshawar, where a mostly male crowd cried anti-American and jihadi slogans.

The protests were led by activists from the religious party Jamaat e Islami and Imran Khan’s Justice party – minority political forces that have seized on Siddiqui’s case as a means of attacking President Asif Ali Zardari’s government.

But Siddiqui’s case has attracted deep support from across the political spectrum.

Her plight taps into deep anti-American hostility in a country where a recent survey found that just 17% of Pakistanis view Washington favourably.

The protesters’ shouts have been amplified by private television networks that have offered uncritical coverage of a murky case that, even after a lengthy trial, is dogged by as many questions as answers.

In an effort to quell criticism of the government’s failure to secure Siddiqui’s repatriation from the US, prime minister Yousaf Raza Gilani told parliament today he had appealed to the US to release Siddiqui in order to “improve its image” in Pakistan.

“We all are united, and we want the daughter of the nation to come back to Pakistan,” he said. The government spent $2m hiring defence lawyers for Siddiqui; today Gilani said he was willing to negotiate an extradition treaty with the US to facilitate her early return.

In the trial Siddiqui, a diminutive 38-year-old, was accused of snatching a gun from an American soldier in an Afghan jail cell in July 2008 and opening fire.

Although she hit nobody, she herself was shot in the stomach by an American officer and, a month later, flown to America to face trial.

Many Pakistanis believed she could not receive a fair hearing – she was tried near the site of the World Trade Centre attacks – but she weakened her defence with frequent intemperate outbursts against the US government and speeches against Jewish conspiracies that caused her to be ejected from court several times.

Her case was also weakened by the Taliban leader, Hakimullah Mehsud, who issued a statement of support.

She was found guilty in February. But the trial, which concentrated on the events in Afghanistan, did little to illuminate the wider mysteries of Siddiqui’s story.

In March 2003 she disappeared from Karachi with her three children, one of whom was six months old, and only resurfaced in July 2008 when she was arrested in Ghazni.

US prosecutors said she was carrying details of prominent American monuments, bomb-making notes and a small amount of cyanide.

Siddiqui’s supporters insist she spent the missing five years at the US detention centre in Bagram, north of Kabul, and her youngest child may have died. US officials deny she was in their custody.

In 2003 US officials accused her of belonging to al-Qaida and being married to Ammar al Baluchi, a nephew of the 9/11 mastermind Khalid Sheikh Muhammad. Siddiqui’s relatives deny this is true.

Baluchi and Muhammad are currently imprisoned at Guantánamo Bay.

The case is likely to remain on the agenda between Pakistan and the US. Yvonne Ridley, a journalist and campaigner for Siddiqui, said supporters would step up pressure through a campaign of civil disobedience.

“It will involve blocking Nato supply lines into Afghanistan,” she said. “This is not going to go away.”

Trial to open for Christian missionaries arrested at Arab International Festival in Dearborn

Four Christian missionaries arrested in June at the Dearborn Arab International Festival are heading to trial today after a judge denied a motion to dismiss the case.

Attorneys for the evangelists, who are part of a group known as “Act 17 Apologetics,” say their clients were attempting to engage Muslims in a dialogue about their faith.

But critics argue the suspects hoped to cause a scene at the festival, and Dearborn Police Chief Ron Haddad explained they were arrested for disorderly conduct to ensure they did not provoke violence from other attendees.

Defense attorney Robert Muise of the Ann Arbor-based Thomas More Law Center sought to dismiss the case on the grounds the arrests were unconstitutional — an argument law professors say has merit — but the Detroit Free Press reports 19th District Court Judge Mark Somers on Friday denied the request.

“I think the evidence will show they did absolutely nothing wrong,” Muise told the newspaper, explaining he’s confident his clients will prevail at trial.

Police Identify Individual Responsible for Qur’an Desecration

Police Identify Individual Responsible for Qur’an Desecration

Police have positively identified the individual responsible for the desecration of the Qur’an on Saturday, Sept. 11.

The individual voluntarily surrendered to police officials on Wednesday, Sept. 15 following the establishment of a $10,000 reward fund. None of the reward funds were paid out to obtain the information leading to the individual’s identity. The individual continues to cooperate with police and FBI officials. The investigators have determined that this was an isolated incident.

It is expected that the police investigation will be completed early next week. The case will be forwarded to the Ingham County Prosecutor’s Office for review. No further information will be released until a decision is made about filing charges.

Sharia or, well, you know, ‘law’?

The US seems to be slipping into using the machinery of state to enforce the sharia more and more these days.

This is one trial I would like to watch. Try and wrap your heads around the wording of the charge as they list it. Last time I looked, “desecration of a Koran” is not a crime in the U.S of A.

City plans to bill pastor for security around planned Quran burning

A deeply disturbing development. Now, governments can bill citizens for costs incurred defending their constitutional rights as a way of disposing of those same rights. I do not see them billing any of the people making threats to break the law.

As I see it, there is only one answer to this. All of us need to burn Korans as publicly as possible, where you are not breaking any fire laws or litter etc. The more of us that do it, the less the Muslims and leftists and Obama can do about it. Freedom is something we all have to fight for continually. I need to know, are people still willing to do it? Or have people been tricked into thinking that somehow, its a Nazi thing to burn a Koran. One you bought or are otherwise in legal possession of, and wish to make a political or moral statement with. This story frightens me more than anything I have read in a while. This shows that our own governments are truly against us. Thanks to a Vlad reader,  DP11, for posting the link in his comment and thanks to the blog that linked to this story.

  • Jones planned a Quran burning event on the anniversary of 9/11
  • The event was called off amid pressure from world leaders

Orlando, Florida (CNN) — The city of Gainesville, Florida, plans to send a bill estimated at more than $180,000 to Pastor Terry Jones for security costs surrounding his controversial threat to burn Qurans on the anniversary of the September, 11, 2001, attacks, a police spokeswoman said Friday.

Police agencies spent more than a month working on security plans to ensure the community surrounding Jones’ Dove World Outreach Center — the planned site of the burning — was safe, according to Gainesville police spokeswoman Cpl. Tscharna Senn.

Jones also told authorities he received numerous death threats because of the planned protest, which he called off amid increasing pressure from world leaders.

The Gainesville Police Department said it spent more than $100,000 while the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office spent an estimated $80,000 during the weekend of the planned demonstration.

“We have 286 sworn officers and almost everyone was working either at the Dove Center or at other soft targets,” Senn said. “Unless you were sick or injured you were working” the day the burning was to take place.

Officers secured malls in the region, the University of Florida’s football stadium and areas around the church in the days leading up to the planned event.

Jones said Friday that the church was “not aware that we would be billed for security.”

“If we had known this in advance, then we would have refused to have security,” he said. Continue Reading →
