U.S. sues on behalf of Muslim teacher

UPI.COM

WASHINGTON, March 23 (UPI) — Critics of a U.S. Justice Department lawsuit on behalf of a Muslim teacher in Illinois say it is politically motivated.

Government lawyers filed the religious discrimination suit in December on behalf of Safoorah Khan, The Washington Post reported Wednesday. Khan quit her job in Berkeley, a suburb of Chicago, when she was refused time off to make a pilgrimage to Mecca.

Critics say Khan was requesting a three-week absence, well beyond the usual accommodation to employees’ religion, and the Justice Department should not have become involved. They suggest the Obama administration filed the lawsuit in an effort to reach out to U.S. Muslims.

“It sounds like a very dubious judgment and a real legal reach,” said Michael Mukasey, who served as attorney general in the cabinet of former President George W. Bush. “The upper reaches of the Justice Department should be calling people to account for this.”

Thomas Perez, the current assistant attorney general for civil rights, said the department is trying to defend “the religious liberty our forefathers fought for.”

Kamram Memon, Khan’s lawyer, said she wanted to make the pilgrimage, which all Muslims are supposed to do at least once in their life, and had been unable to afford it. He said she would have had to wait at least nine years for the period of the hajj to fall during a school break.

Anti Libyan war protesters come out in spades

Please click over to Ringo’s pictures to see a ton of great photos and video of protests against Obama and the action against Libya. And Capitalism. And Israel. And White people.

I wonder what this would sound like in German?

Washington Times on Obama’s “Kinetic Action” in Libya

From the Washington times:

What if they gave a war and nobody was allowed to say it? The debate over military action in Libya has lately taken an absurd twist, driven by the Obama administration’s bizarre unwillingness to call a war a war.

Everyone knows what is going on in Libya is a war, but the administration has placed a moratorium on plain English. Hence White House press secretary Jay Carney prefers to talk about a “time-limited, scope-limited military action,” which could actually describe most wars. And at a press briefing on Wednesday when Joint Task Force Odyssey Dawn Chief of Staff Rear Admiral Gerard Hueber was asked, “Do you consider yourself at war right now?” he said, expressionlessly, “we are carrying out the mission of the United Nations Security [Council] Resolution 1973 and the direction of the president in his speech.” Said one observer, “He has drunk the Kool Aid.”

The favored expressions seem to be variations on “kinetic action,” a term that has been in usage in defense parlance for over 20 years. As jargon it is not new; it was used by George W. Bush and members of his administration. But it was never before deployed to deny reality in the way the Obama administration is doing. The president has transformed “kinetic” from jargon to doublespeak, joining such classics as “man caused disaster” and “overseas contingency operation.”

It says a lot when a president has to hide behind opaque language, or to forbid people from stating the obvious. In 1994 the State Department reportedly banned the use of the word “genocide” to describe the genocide then raging in Rwanda. The thought was that if genocide was in progress the United States might be expected to do something about it, which the Clinton administration was loath to do. This past failure to intervene in Rwanda is supposedly one of the factors that drove the current intervention in Libya. So the genocide that wasn’t a genocide helped cause the war that isn’t a war. It has a certain peculiar symmetry.

ANTIFA, WHAT’S NOT TO LOATHE ABOUT THESE TOTALITARIANS AND THEIR FALSE HIDEOUS IDEOLOGY…….?

Fjordman sends the TT the following article by Michael C. Tuggle abut the Antifa, a collection of Communists, Anarchists and Socialists in general who have embarked upon a holy crusade, as they see it, against anything resembling patriotic nationalism. They have a very limited world view, and for the most part unwilling, or worse yet, unable to spell out their ideology for fear of having to defend it.

Simply put, they can’t really define themselves other than being against “racism” and “fascists” and they’ll leave it at that. The  Antifa ideology is both totalitarian and utopian, which means that they believe that they do not have to tolerate dissenting views or other opinions, and truly believe that they themselves are the vanguards of the perfect society.

In short, they’re statists, and while their views are at odds with those of the real racial supremacists (only the white ones of course, fundamuslims, La Raza and Black Panther groups, all racists in their own right are tolerated) they exhibit the same knuckle dragging qualities as their opposition, the socialist ultra-nationalists, the Nazi lovers and Fascists. Brute, mind numbing force.

These people, like the fringe KKK and other racist groups just mentioned, need to be opposed, infiltrated by the police and exposed for who they are….and jailed. Most importantly though, the media needs to get off its dead ass and actually report on who these thugs really are, a collection of commies, anarchists, socialists, nihilist statist, thugs. They are not a group worth lionizing, quite the contrary, then need marginalizing, and fast.

Special thanks to Fjordman for this eye opening piece. KGS

The Antifa Fad: Totalitarian Anti-Fascism

[…] I had interviewed Michael Behrle minutes earlier, having spotted his anti-Nazi arm patch. Twenty-two, white, with reddish-brown hair and a short beard, Behrle heads the Charlotte, North Carolina branch of Anti-Racist Action. He’s a barista who enters latte art competitions. I asked him why he’d come.

“We’re here to show Jared Taylor we’re not going to allow him to take away our rights.”

“But Taylor’s group just makes speeches about immigration.”

“Anarchist and communist intellectuals preached that violence in a holy cause was an act of purification and renewal.”

Behrle’s jaw clenched. “That’s because they’re white supremacists. They want to bring back segregation, and that’s simply not going to happen. Our action here will show other fascists they’re not welcome in Charlotte.”

Fascists? I wanted to probe more, but he shook his head and turned back toward the other protesters, his eyes fixed on me as he walked away.

For Michael Behrle and many others like him, those are the battle lines in post-Cold War, multicultural America: on one side, fascists, and opposing them, the antifa. The word “antifa” comes from Antifaschismus, the German term for anti-fascism. Dressed in their preferred street garb of black clothes, boots, balaclavas, and anti-Nazi patches are young people, almost all white, driven by an ideology as powerful and magnetic as communism. French philosopher Alain Finkielkraut has warned, “I think that the lofty idea of ‘the war on racism’ is gradually turning into a hideously false ideology. And this anti-racism will be for the 21st century what communism was for the 20th century: a source of violence.”

What’s frightening is that antifa believe conservatives, immigration-control activists, and Tea Party protesters are clandestine fascists. Behrle’s group, Anti-Racist Action, makes this explicit on its website:

“The National Socialist Movement and similar open fascist forces are seeking greater political legitimacy. They want greater influence within larger white nationalist and reactionary social and political forces, such as the anti-immigrant movement, the ‘tea-baggers,’ and the re-emerging militia movement.”

Antifa activists do not debate their enemies; after all, their enemies are fascists and thus have no legitimacy. Their goal is to confront and silence them. From the Anti-Racist Action website:

“If you can get away it [sic], carry weapons, or if there’s a chance you might get searched by cops, carry items that can be used as weapons in a pinch (hefty flagpoles, thick placard sticks, batteries, maglights, bike locks).…And don’t forget your masks—nothing makes the fascists tremble like a group of black-clad, balaclava-wearing Antifa bearing down on them.”

[…]

Many antifa identify themselves as anarchists and communists. Both earlier movements secularized Christianity’s message that a chosen few will guide the world away from evil and toward the good, which today’s antifa warriors envision as a raceless, classless, unified world. But to get there, the old constraints must be broken. Anarchist and communist intellectuals preached that violence in a holy cause was an act of purification and renewal. Prince Kropotkin, who never harmed a fly or a single detested royal in his life, once wrote, “A single deed is better propaganda than a thousand pamphlets.”

Or as Daryle Lamont Jenkins put it, “If someone wants to be involved with OPP, they have to remember that it isn’t about putting out propaganda.”

FBI Launches investigation of Gulen and his movement

CANADA FREE PRESS

Fethullah Gulen, dubbed “the most dangerous Islamist on planet earth,” is now under investigation by the F.B.I. for his network of charter schools throughout the country.

The 140-plus charter schools, according to a newly released federal document, may serve as madrassahs where students are “brain-washed” to serve as proponents of the New Islamic World Order that Gulen purportedly seeks to create.

The Gulen schools, which have been established in nearly every state in the union, bear such innocuous names as the Magnolia Science Academy, the Sweetwater Branch Academy, the Science Academy of Chicago, the Pioneer Charter School, the Horizon Science Academy, the Noble Academy, the Dove Science Academy, the Bluebonnet Learning Center, and the Beehive Science and Technology Academy.

Gulen, who fled his native Turkey in 1998 upon being charged with seeking to overthrow the secular Turkish government, presently resides within a mountain fortress in the Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania.

Court records show that Gulen has amassed assets in excess of $25 billion. Continue Reading →

Question for American peace activists.

According to Stratfor, over 110 tomahawk missiles have hit Libya from US and British ships in the past hour or so. I can’t help but wonder where the shrieking is. When Bush attacked Iraq with nearly infinitely greater provocation than the one to go after Qaddafi, When Saddam had murdered hundreds of thousands of his own people, extincted the Marsh Arabs, used WMD’s on the Kurds and a list of horror to long to recount, American peaceniks where apoplectic.

Now that Obama has committed the US to a 3rd official war and what, a 5th war in total if you count Bahrain and other more covert actions one would imagine the same groups, Code Pink or at least tons of media attention on Cindy Sheehan when she goes and camps on the official Obama basketball court. If she does.

I expect to hear tens of thousands chanting: “Obama denied, people died” or, “Obama why talk-a lot when you can send in the Tomahawk”. I suppose that could be both supportive or sarcastic. In any case, I look forward to their return. Obama needs to know how his supporters made the previous administration, one a hundred times more competent than his own, that much more difficult to manage.

Gaddafi Mocks Obama and the West: Mr. President You Can’t Vote ‘Present’ As Leader of the Free World

The CIA agent who was jailed in Pakistan for murder because he shot his way out of a robbery situation, is on his way home now from Pakistan. The US government, rather than insisting that his actions were indeed covered under international treaties as a diplomat, or that his actions were legitimate self defence, instead elected to pay both blood money to the families of the thieves shot by the agent, and worse, US visas for the families of these thieves. Personally I blame Reagan for setting this precedent with the Iran-Contra scandal where hostages were bought, by Oliver North acting for Reagan, from Hizb’alah on Iranian orders. And now we see this from Gaddafi, a leader who Reagan would have removed if Italy had not betrayed the US and warned Libya about the strike that the US launched against him in the 80s. Gaddafi is right on one thing. You cannot just vote present when you lead the free world and call yourself a leader.

From Big peace.

Now that the west has refused to take any military action to help the rebels fighting Gaddafi,  the Crazy Colonel has been emboldened.   “Strike Libya?”  he said in a speech yesterday.  ”We’ll be the ones who strikes you! We struck you in Algeria,  in Vietnam.”  It appears to be increasingly likely that Gaddafi is going to prevail.   He may not have complete control of the country when its done,  but he will control the major cities and the oil facilities.  He will be emboldened and have billions of dollars of cash thanks to oil exports.

He is also making clear that he is going to work to punish those who asked for him to step down (UK, US, and France) and throw his business to those countries who remained neutral and silent (Russia, China, and Germany).  President Obama managed to carry out a “policy” that is the worst of both worlds.  He did just enough to enrage Gaddafi,  but not enough to actually get rid of him. You can’t split the difference when it comes to a civil war.  You either sit quiet or you pick sides.

Mr. President, how is it possible to come up with such a stupid strategy?

President Obama continues to believe that speeches and statements (“Gaddafi should step down”) are tantamount to a policy.   Power politics is not a debating society and flowery speeches and expressions of “hope and change” mean nothing at the end of the day. When Obama sat in the Illinois State Senate,  he had a habit of voting “present” on certain thorny political issues.  When it comes to leading the Free World,  ”present” won’t just cut it.

It’s a sad day when Hillary Clinton is providing the backbone for a presidential administration.

Comparing cultures in crisis.

First, this article about the behaviour of the Japanese during a crisis that defies description in its horror and potential:

Respect for property even in the middle of disaster (Photo: EPA)Respect for property even in the middle of disaster (Photo: EPA)

The landscape of parts of Japan looks like the aftermath of World War Two; no industrialised country since then has suffered such a death toll. The one tiny, tiny consolation is the extent to which it shows how humanity can rally round in times of adversity, with heroic British rescue teams joining colleagues from the US and elsewhere to fly out.

And solidarity seems especially strong in Japan itself. Perhaps even more impressive than Japan’s technological power is its social strength, with supermarkets cutting prices and vending machine owners giving out free drinks as people work together to survive. Most noticeably of all, there has been no looting, and I’m not the only one curious about this.

This is quite unusual among human cultures, and it’s unlikely it would be the case in Britain. During the 2007 floods in the West Country abandoned cars were broken into and free packs of bottled water were stolen. There was looting in Chile after the earthquake last year – so much so that troops were sent in; in New Orleans, Hurricane Katrina saw looting on a shocking scale.

Why do some cultures react to disaster by reverting to everyone for himself, but others – especially the Japanese – display altruism even in adversity?

Then we have this. Remember this video?

And much more recently, we have this from Australia:

Phyllis Chesler: Turning a blind eye to Islam’s brutal treatment of women

National Post, March 12, 2011 – 7:03 AM ET/Last Updated: March 12, 2011 5:10 AM ET

http://www.nationalpost.com/ Phyllis Chesler in New York City

My feminist generation believed in universal human rights — one standard for all. I still do. Therefore, I have taken a strong stand against the persecution of immigrant women and dissidents. I now submit affidavits on behalf of women who have fled the threat of such killings and who are seeking asylum in the United States.

Those of us who condemn the plight of such women, who are mainly Muslims and ex-Muslims, have been demonized in activist circles as “Islamophobes” and racists because we do not, in the same breath, blame America, the West or Israel for their suffering. Many Western academic feminists are so afraid of being condemned as “racists” that this fear trumps their concern for women’s rights in the Arab and Muslim world.

Islamic gender apartheid, which has penetrated the West, is characterized by normalized daughter- and wife-battering, forced veiling, female genital mutilation, polygamy, purdah (the segregation or sequestration of women), arranged marriage, child marriage and first-cousin marriage. Girls and women often are honour-murdered if they resist such practices, if they wish to divorce a dangerously abusive husband, or if they are viewed as too independent, too modern.

Today, at its most extreme, Islamic gender apartheid is characterized by acid attacks, public stonings, hangings, and beheading of women in Iran, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Somalia and Saudi Arabia — countries in which female rape victims are jailed, tortured and executed.

Feminists should be crying out from the rooftops against these practices. Some are. I am. Yet, many Muslims, as well as many intellectually “progressive” Western infidels, are not. They are welcoming the imposition of Islamic religious law, Sharia law, not only in the Middle East but also in the West. Continue Reading →
