What is the UN waiting for? Deploy a strong force to Gaza

From Tuesday’s Globe and Mail

I first served in the Gaza Strip in 1963, seven years after Lester Pearson’s diplomatic stick-handling led to the creation of the United Nations Emergency Force, the UN’s first peacekeeping force. I served there for two years, living with more than 1,000 other Canadian soldiers in Camp Rafah, just inside Gaza. I returned to the region eight years later, this time to Cairo and Ismailia as part of Canadian support for UN ceasefire protocols after the 1973 Yom Kippur War. I have returned to the region many times during the past decade.

In my opinion, the Israeli-Hamas conflict is the only one in the world where there is no hope whatsoever of the participants resolving the key issues on their own, by any means. Hamas makes no secret that, aided and abetted by Iran, it is dedicated to the destruction of Israel. Any idea of a ceasefire in the current fighting leading to a change in Hamas’s dedication to Israel’s elimination is naive to the extreme. Any cessation of hostilities, no matter how temporary, will be used by Hamas to enhance its weapons arsenal in preparation for the next round of terrorist attacks against its neighbour.

On their own, Israel and Hamas are doomed to a perpetual state of war no matter how much international diplomatic horsepower is applied to resolving the conflict. But there is a solution that the world has been adroitly avoiding for 40 years.

Israel deserves security. Its population is prepared to live in peace with its neighbours providing they aren’t dedicated to its extermination. If Israel deals with the threat from Hamas on its own, the situation will not improve over the long term – Hamas will simply resuscitate itself and carry on with its terrorist actions against Israel. The Security Council needs to show some rare backbone and authorize a strong UN force under the UN Charter’s Chapter 7, which authorizes the use of deadly force as necessary, and deploy it within the Gaza Strip, taking on the responsibility to provide the security to which Israel is entitled.

The force would need to be strong enough to interdict weapons smuggling by sea, land (including by tunnel) and air from outside sources, to eliminate rocket attacks on Israel, to stop suicide bombers through use of border controls and, most important, to be strong enough militarily to take on Hamas if need be. The oft-expressed idea of putting international monitors into the Gaza Strip to control smuggling and the firing of rockets is ludicrous: Hamas would run rings around any unarmed outsiders whose only mandate was to “observe and report.” Such monitors wouldn’t even qualify as yet another Band-Aid solution.

Israel would not like this solution. It is extremely suspicious of the UN, which has all too often demonstrated anti-Semitic policies and statements thanks to the fact that most member states sympathize with such attitudes. Israel did not recognize the UNEF from 1956 to its withdrawal in 1967. In fact, when we had to drive through Israel to get some of our supplies in Lebanon, we were not allowed to get out of our vehicles while inside Israel.

The UN Relief and Works Agency, which provides aid to Palestinian refugees in the Gaza Strip, has been accused by Israel – with some justification – of anti-Israel bias. Nevertheless, with a UN force deployed across the border from Israel and capable of providing the security desired by its citizens, the Israelis would soon see the benefits.

The UN has maintained a peacekeeping force in Cyprus since 1964. There has been no fighting between the Greek and Turk Cypriots for the past 34 years. The peacekeepers are now popular tourist attractions. When you arrive on the south coast of Cyprus, you can sign up for a bus tour of Nicosia, where you can observe the peacekeepers executing their boring duty in sentry boxes first manned by Canadian soldiers some 38 years ago. If you are polite, they will let you have your picture taken with them.

The UN Security Council and member states should be ashamed. While UN resources are providing peacekeepers in a country safer than most of our major cities, just across the Mediterranean, scores of innocent Palestinians are being killed because a terrorist organization with the stated aim of ridding the world of Jews is permitted to sacrifice its own people without protest or intervention by the international community.

Retired major-general Lewis MacKenzie was the first commander of UN peacekeeping forces in Sarajevo.

Synagogue set ablaze and anti-Semitic assaults soar in UK

Synagogue set ablaze and anti-Semitic assaults soar in UK following Israel’s invasion of Gaza (Daily Mail UK)

The number of anti-Semitic attacks in London has risen sharply following Israel’s land assault on Gaza, Jewish community groups said today.

Their leaders have compiled a dossier of attacks against Jews which will be handed to seniors officers in the Metropolitan police.

The attacks include claims of:

  • An attempt to burn down a synagogue in north-west London.
  • An assault on a Jewish motorist who was pulled from his car and punched.
  • A gang of youths chanting anti-Semitic slogans as they tried to enter restaurants and shops in Golders Green.

Graffiti

This week has seen the emergence of anti-Semitic graffiti in Jewish areas of London. Slogans sprayed on walls include: ‘Kill Jews’ and ‘Jews are scumbags’

The Community Security Trust, which is responsible for the safety of Jews in Britain, has also noted the emergence of anti-Semitic graffiti in Jewish areas across London.

Slogans sprayed on walls include: ‘Kill Jews’ and ‘Jews are scumbags.’

The trust has now logged 24 anti-Semitic incidents – most of them in London – in the past week. Police are said to be stepping up patrols in Jewish areas.

Mark Gardner, the trust’s spokesman, told the Standard: ‘There has been a significant rise in the number of anti-Semitic incidents, especially when compared with what is usually a very quiet time of year for racist, anti-Jewish attacks.

‘It is a pattern with which we and police are now sadly familiar, whereby hysteria is whipped up against Israel: and British Jews then suffer a wave of anti-Semitism.’

The arson attack on the synagogue in Brondesbury took place on Sunday night. The arsonists first tried to smash open a window but failed because of the toughened glass in place to protect such buildings from terrorist attacks.

Mr Gardner said: ‘Having been thwarted they then appear to have attempted to set the front door alight with petrol, causing some damage to the exterior of the premises. Police, CST and fire brigade attended the scene.’

On New Year’s Eve, a man was pulled from his car just as he was about to drive off and assaulted by three men whom he described as being of Arab appearance.

The victim did not suffer any serious injury. The same night a gang of youths alarmed locals in Golders Green by trying to enter Jewish shops while chanting anti-Israeli slogans.

Joey Ben-Yoav, manager of nearby Met Su Yan, a kosher Chinese restaurant in Golders Green, said: “It was scary. They were waving flags and shouting. It felt like if we went out they would hit us or something.

‘They walked past a few Jews and just shouted ‘Jew’ at them. They did not look like they were in the mood for making peace.’

Jews across London are facing a surge of anti-Semitic attacks following the continued violence in Gaza.

On Sunday night, three youths tried to torch Brondesbury Park Synagogue in Willesden – earlier that day Israeli troops entered the Palestinian territory.

On New Year’s Eve, a man was pulled from his car just as he was about to drive off and assaulted by three men whom he described as being of Arab appearance. The victim did not suffer any serious injury.

A gang of youths chanting anti-Semitic slogans, waving flags and intimidating locals tried to enter restaurants and shops in Golders Green.

There are also reports from charities of anti-Semetic graffiti going up across the city, slogans include: “Kill Jews” and “Jews are scumbags.”

Barriers at school

In Manchester, barriers have been erected around the King David High School and access has been restricted to passholders.

Police are liaising closely with Jewish groups and have set up “reassurance patrols” in Jewish areas such as Golders Green, North Finchely, Stanmore, Stanford Hill and St John’s Wood.

The Jewish charity Community Security trust has been advising Britain’s Jews on how to protect themselves and taking repots on anti semitic attacks – it says they have taken 24 statements since the violence erupted.
‘We’ll kill Jews abroad’

These anti-Semitic incidents come in the wake of chilling comments by the Hamas leader that they will kill Jewish children anywhere in the world in revenge for the devastating attacks of the past few weeks. Mahmoud Zahar said:

“They have legitimised the murder of their own children by killing the children of Palestine. They have legitimised the killing of their people all over the world by killing our people.”

Speaking to the Times, Mark Gardner, of CST, warned Jews:

“When the Hamas leadership calls for revenge attacks on Jewish people, we have to be very, very concerned about what that means.”

Board of Deputies defiant

Speaking to The London Daily News, the Board of Deputies of British Jews was in a defiant mood saying Jews and Israelis would not be intimidated by those waging destruction in the Middle East and they were closely monitoring the situation. A spokesman told us:

“Hamas has never made any secret of their extremist and antisemitic agenda. A quick read through the Hamas Charter which outlines the focus of their ideology over the last twenty years, clearly demonstrates that they have never made any distinction between Jew and Israeli and have always considered the death of Jews to be a desirable objective. We are closely monitoring the worrying rise in antisemitic attacks since the start of the conflict in Gaza but our community in the UK, will simply not be intimidated by those who have already wrought so much destruction in the Middle East.”
Violent embassy protests

Meanwhile pro-Palestinian protesters continue to mass outside the Israeli embassy in a demo they vow will last all week despite the plunging temperatures.

A wave of anti-Israeli feeling spread over the city this weekend when large rallies were held across the city culminating in angry exchanges and clashes with the police as they fought to protect the Kensington embassy from attack.

Hundreds of demonstrators ripped up and hurled barriers threw sticks and missiles and attempted to rush the building.

Roads were closed and police in riot gear had to contain the 5,000 strong crowds on Kensington High Street. Protesters burned the Israeli flag and labeled the country a terrorist state.

Police say they are working with Muslims to insure protests pass off peacefully with non confrontational stewarding methods.
Jews under attack across Europe

Jews are on their guard across the continent as young disaffected Muslims bring the conflict in the Middle East to the capitals of Europe.

In Paris on Saturday riot police had to separate the 25,000 pro-Palestinian and 4,000 pro-Israeli demonstrators outside the Israeli embassy.

National Post: Ontario union calls for ban of ‘Israeli Profs’

This article may be worth reading in the context of the interview with former CSIS man, David Harris who alluded to infiltration of various Canadian institutions by Islamist agendas.

Ontario union calls for ban on Israeli professors. National Post:

Vanessa Kortekaas, National Post Published: Monday, January 05, 2009

The resolution, proposed by CUPE’s Ontario University Workers Coordinating Committee, is in protest against a Dec. 29 bombing that damaged the Islamic University in Gaza.

“In response to an appeal from the Palestinian Federation of Unions of University Professors and Employees, we are ready to say Israeli academics should not be on our campuses unless they explicitly condemn the university bombing and the assault on Gaza in general,” said Sid Ryan, president of CUPE Ontario.

The resolution is still being drafted but the union said it will seek to prohibit Israeli academics from speaking, teaching or researching at Ontario universities. The CUPE committee will distribute the resolution to its members at the end of the month.

It will be put to a vote at the committee’s annual conference in February.

Janice Folk-Dawson, chairwoman of the university workers committte, said: “Clearly international pressure on Israel must increase to stop the massacre that is going on daily. We are proud to add CUPE voices to others from around the world saying enough is enough.”

Ms. Folk-Dawson said the committee felt it was crucial to do something.

“This is coming from the rank-and-file members, not just the leadership,” she said.

Len Rudner, regional director of the Canadian Jewish Congress (CJC) in Ontario, called the resolution “unbalanced, unfair and unhelpful.”

“Once again Sid Ryan is jumping before thinking,” Mr. Rudner said. “I think it’s ironic individuals who speak about freedom of speech jump to the opportunity to take that freedom away from other individuals.”

While Ms. Folk-Dawson said the resolution will protect the quality of education by preventing Israeli academics from professing biased views, an Israeli professor at the University of Toronto opposed such a disruption to academia.

“I oppose any kind of ban to academic activity, whatever its colour or matter,” said Emanuel Adler, chairman of Israeli Studies at the university.

“Students should receive the message that the situation is very tragic for both Israelis and Palestinians, but the conflict and the violence should not be brought inside the university.”

He added that “if there is a place that some solution should come out of other than government it should be a place where creativity can lead to a peaceful resolution of conflict.”

That sentiment was echoed by Daniel Silverman, program associate of Hillel at U of T, a Jewish student organization: “The university is a place for discussing all sorts of issues but it must be productive. [This resolution] doesn’t serve any purpose, it doesn’t promote dialogue; it creates divisions.”

However, Mr. Ryan said the resolution was a reasonable response to Israel’s attack on the Islamic University, which he likened to the torching of books by Nazis during the Second World War.

Israel has said the Islamic University is a legitimate target because it is closely tied to Hamas.

Mr. Ryan described the proposed resolution as the “logical next step” of a policy adopted by CUPE Ontario at a May, 2006, conference.

Resolution 50 supports “boycotts, divestment and sanctions aimed at bringing about the Israeli withdrawal from occupied territories and a just peace in the region.”

The passing of resolution 50 saw the union face significant public scrutiny and Ms. Folk-Dawson said this time they are prepared for a backlash, adding, “We believe we are doing the right thing.”

Approximately 100 committee members will vote on the resolution at the conference on Feb. 19 in Windsor. If the resolution receives majority support, it will be on the agenda at CUPE Ontario’s conference in May, when more than 1,000 would be expected to vote. Should it pass that point, the union would then ask the province’s schools to respect the prohibition.

The proposal comes after an international academic dispute broke out in 2007 following the British University and College Union’s decision to sever professional ties with eight Israeli universities.

Sheldon Levy, president of Ryerson University in Toronto, was among administrators around the world who condemned that decision. He could not be reached for comment Monday.

Hamas threatens Jews and Jewish children everywhere. Again. Somehow more seriously.

According to Stratfor, Israeli news quoted Palestinian TV saying that Hamas leader Mahmoud al-Zahar is calling on militants to attack Israeli businesses and civilians and institutions. This is a puzzling report. In what way is this call any different from the usual call to destroy anything Israeli? Could this mean extra nationally? Jews and anything percieved to be connected to Jews world wide? Surely this call would not have been made unless it was somehow different than actual Hamas policy.

Then we have this:

From Jihad Watch,

As fighting intensified on the northern outskirts of Gaza City today, a top Hamas leader broke cover to warn Israel that the Islamists would kill Jewish children anywhere in the world in revenge for their own young who have died in the devastating assault.“They have legitimised the murder of their own children by killing the children of Palestine,” said Mahmoud Zahar, in a televised broadcast recorded at a secret location. “They have legitimised the killing of their people all over the world by killing our people.”

Mr Zahar, a hard-line political leader, made his first appearance since Israeli launched its offensive against his organisation. Dressed in a dark suit and as he read the statement, he declared “Victory is coming, God willing.”

I gotta tell ya, I would be hard pressed to know the difference between this policy and business as usual for Islamic terrorists. It seems to me they do as much as they can pretty much all the time.

Klaus exposes EU hypocrisy. Data point for Eurabia? I hope you are watching Ireland.

Once again Vaclav Klaus has exposed more of the hypocrisy and hidden agenda of the EU. It is the Czech Republic’s turn as head of the European Union yet French President Nicolas Sarkozy makes the trip to Gaza. Why might this be? Isn’t this a little like Jimmy Carter negotiating a mid east peace decades after he no longer holds any official office? Well yes actually but worse.

Sarkozy is still president of France. But his rotation at the EUSSR is over. He no longer has the right to act for the EU. However Klaus’s well known scorn for the EU which now attempts to become a superstate with political dominance over various European nations despite numerous referenda to the contrary (France Holland Ireland and soon Ireland twice) voted against a European constitution. Klaus is also very anti EU as a political force. But perhaps more to the point Vaclav is a well known supporter of Israel. For those of you who have not yet read Fjordman’s ‘Defeating Eurabia’ and for those of you who have and are seeking contemporary evidence for his assertions today saw a rather stunning data point for it.

From a Stratfor report Jan 5 2008…

The two parallel missions may seem like an exercise in redundancy or at the very least an embarrassing scheduling conflict. Czech Republic, which holds the rotating EU presidency for the first six months of 2009, is expected to take a lead on EU foreign policy engagements and overall policy agenda-setting. Sarkozy’s trip, therefore, flies in the face of EU protocol and is a very visible vote of non-confidence for Prague’s ability to command respect globally as the EU president.

As EU president, Czech Republic faces a number of challenges, from a resurgent Russia to a global economic crisis. Many within the EU doubt that Prague will able to handle these challenges on its own, with Sarkozy having all but directly suggested that the French term — which ended with the start of the Czech EU presidency — should be extended. Confidence in Prague’s foreign policy acumen was further dented when Schwarzenberg’s spokesman issued a statement seemingly supporting Israel’s incursion in Gaza on Jan. 2, only for the foreign ministry to withdraw it two days later as protest mounted among those EU member states that oppose Israel’s actions. Sarkozy’s trip is another blow to Prague’s confidence and could be interpreted as a direct slap in the face of the Czech EU presidency.

But lets dig a little deeper. Vaclav was already chastized by the EU for refusing to take down a Czech flag from anancient landmark in Prague and replace it with a European flag. More to the point, he removed the Euro flag and put up a Czech one.

(From the Telegraph UK)

The French president sided with federalist Euro-MPs who are engaged in a bitter feud with Vaclav Klaus, the Czech president and a Eurosceptic.

Senior MEPs, including the president of the European Parliament, Hans Gert Poettering, caused a diplomatic incident ten days ago after demanding that Mr Klaus hoist the European flag over his residence during bad tempered talks in Prague.

“It was a wound, it was an outrage to see that flags had been taken down from public buildings,” said President Sarkozy, the current holder of the EU’s six-month rotating presidency which he hands over to the Czech Republic in January.

“Mr Poettering can count on the full support of the French president.”

Karel Schwarzenberg, the Czech foreign minister, hit back as the diplomatic war of words between Paris and Prague threatened to overshadow the smooth transfer of the EU presidency.

“There is no law binding the Czech Republic to hang the EU flag over Prague Castle. Prague Castle is a symbol of the Czech state and not the EU,” he said.

“It is not up to the head of another state to criticise the Czech president over flags.”

A statement from the office of Mr Klaus said: “The Castle is a symbol of Czech statehood. There is no reason to change this historic tradition.”

So we see, Klaus has the temerity to not be fully on side and sacrifice his own ideals history and knowledge of right and wrong in favor of a greater Europe. A greater Europe represented by an agency which clearly has an agenda Vaclav is not comfortable with. One which sides with Islamic states even when the entirety of western history and our collective sense of law right and wrong and even military conventions are four square on side with the Israeli position with respect to the expeditions in Gaza. The EU seeks to embarrass its own president when his attitudes run against what looks more and more like a Eurabian agenda. I hope Ireland is watching as they are being asked to vote again on the EU constitution. They should know that a yes vote will mean that even when it’s Irelands turn to lead the EU should they act in Irish interests however they may see them, they will be disenfranchised.

Thank you Muslim protesters.

I would like to take a minute and profoundly thank the multitudes of screaming genocidal Muslim protesters who have graced the streets of the civilized world from Canada Europe and beyond since the start of Israel’s retaliation to Gazanian missiles. You bring me huge relief. I really mean this. You do for me what I could never do if I wrote day and night seven days a week attempting to expose the true nature of Islam.

The greatest threat to civilization is the ‘soft Jihad’. The subtle infiltration of institutions of state such as the CBC in Canada or the various human rights commissions or the NDP as has been suggested by Tarek Fatah and other non terrorist Muslims who have been trying to ring the alarm bells in Canada for some time to the threat of more orthodox Islam. This soft jihad has been so effective that the left and center in Canada as well as most European nations have done everything they can to assist the Islamification of the west even including the intolerance of non Muslims hatred of Israel and jews and loss of rights of non Muslims in some ways which is central to Islam yet anathema to Europe’s traditional left.

However the chanting of “gas the jews” in Holland or, “What you need is a bog oven, all the Jews need to be in a big oven” in Florida and similar chants in protests all over the world may actually help wake enough people up to the true nature of Islam that we may beat you. Yes its hard to believe that all the acts of terrorism, the most horrifying that your imaginations are capable of has not done the job for us but it has helped. In this photo from Toronto below I see three flags together. India Canada and Israel. Victimization clearly has drawn India into the fold. They will be a powerful ally once the infidel world wakes up.

flags
So keep chanting Death to Jews and ‘We will rape your bitches’and by all means march everywhere and everywhen you can. I cannot wake up the people of the world to the threat of Islam alone. I need your help.

Below is an article as a comment on Right Girl’s post about the protest in Toronto. I hope the person who published this comment does not mind me republishing it here but I really feel it needs to be seen especially by any Canadians who think this is some kind of far away problem.

  1. Hi Wendy, sorry I didn’t see you when you left. Things got a little confusing as I didn’t know that they were going to parade up Yonge St. to Bloor and across to Avenue Road. When they started to pour out of Dundas Square into the street, the police started to have us move west on Dundas as a group. After we turned north on Bay someone told me that we we headed for the Israeli consulate and a few blocks later I learned where that was. The police were with us on their bicycles and told us they wanted us to get to the consulate first so that we could be in position before the demonstrators got there.

Many others had left so by the time we got there, we were less than one hundred in size. There was a set of actual barricades (not just the bicycles at Yonge and Dundas) at the north curb and another at the centre line of Bloor. It was about 15 or 20 minutes before the first demonstrators arrived and the police were standing between the two sets and all the mounted police were also there with horses and their riot shields across the horses eyes. I don’t know how they acted on their trip up Yonge and across Bloor but when they arrived and saw us all there they were really riled up. One muslim leader was between the barriers with the police trying to get the worst of the young men to calm down, to no avail.

There were as you know a couple of Hindus with us due to the recent terrorism in Mumbai. It’s time that all non-muslim people in Canada start to get the message whether they follow any religion or not. There were many cries of DEATH TO ALL INFIDELS, ALL INFIDELS MUST DIE. One was grabbing his crotch and thrusting the stick and his sign between his legs shouting WE’LL RAPE ALL YOU(R) BITCHES! There should have been many charges laid under section 319(2) of the Criminal Code. Not only did the police not charge anyone, about 15 minutes after the demonstrators arrived our group started to move around the corner to the west side of Avenue Road. I asked why we were leaving and was told that the police had asked us to move as they were beginning to believe that if the barricades broke they couldn’t protect us so they asked us to move along. As I rounded the corner I could see all the muslims crawling all over the property of the church on the north-east corner of Bloor and Avenue Road. The traffic southbound had been stopped at Cumberland and we were escorted across Avenue Road and headed east with all the traffic on Cumberland to Bay St. By this time I realized we were really stretched out due to sidewalk construction and that we had absolutely no police escort. Not very good keeping their motto to serve and protect.

I also didn’t know their permit included heading south to the U.S. consulate to burn flags. I believe it’s also time for Canadians to realize that they have to stop the anti American rhetoric towards our (and their) largest trading partner, neighbour and best friend, and allie through two world wars. It seems to me that the lesson of Neville Chamberlin and appeasement have been forgotten.

Take care and may God bless you.

  2. Thank you Man with hat. I wonder why we didn’t see these reports by any paid journalists. Oh yeah cause its illegal. They would be brought up on hate crimes charges for reporting facts which Muslims would find casts them in a bad light or they as likely would be threatened with death. I guess its up to the blogosphere to actually inform people of the facts and events which shape our times.

National Post: Don’t blame the occupation

Don’t blame the ‘occupation’

(Thank you Grace)

Lorne Gunter, National Post Published: Monday, January 05, 2009

Ammar Awad, Reuters

If Israel is the “occupier” of Gaza (as so many angry readers told me following my recent columns in support of Israel’s attacks), how come it has no troops or military posts in Gaza, and has not had since 2005?

How come Israel spent the summer and early fall of 2005 forcibly evicting 7,000 Jewish settlers from the Gaza Strip if it is an “occupier”? Israeli society — including the army — was deeply divided over the removal of the settlers. Yet Ariel Sharon’s government did it anyway.

Many soldiers refused to take part in the uprooting of families, some of whom had lived in Gaza for three generations. Most settlers under 40 knew no other home, and many resisted the expulsion through acts of civil disobedience.

But still Israel carried it out because the Palestinians insisted the presence of the settlers was their prime irritant and obstacle to peace.

It cost Israel more than half a billion dollars to relocate the settlers. More than 1,000 acres (3.5 million square metres) of greenhouses were abandoned, and 15% of Israel’s agricultural exports were lost due to the evacuation. Approximately 5,000 Palestinians lost their jobs processing the crops Israelis grew on the Strip.

Palestinians and their supporters often complain that Israeli settlers take the best land. If only they would give it back, the Palestinians themselves would work that land and become self-sufficient.

But in Gaza, all the occupied land has been given back, along with extensive cultivation and irrigation infrastructure. And now — just three years later — the land is largely barren, the greenhouses and irrigation works are largely in ruins. There are almost no exports, meaning there are no export-based jobs for Palestinians and no foreign-currency income for Gazans from international produce buyers.

Also in 2005, Israel removed all its soldiers from Gaza, as the Palestinians

had demanded. Now it has only border patrols and checkpoints along its boundary with the Palestinian enclave.

Admittedly, Israel controls sea and air access to Gaza, but it does not control all of the ground access.

I have been told time and again by Palestinian-friendly readers that because of Israel’s “occupation,” Gazans have been forced to dig tunnels between the Strip and Egypt just to get food and water. But Egypt, not Israel, controls Gaza’s southwestern frontier. So how do Israel’s restrictions make Gaza-Egypt tunnels necessary? If Egypt were not just as determined to keep Gaza sealed off, the tunnels would be unnecessary, no matter what Israel was doing.

Indeed, readers may recall that in early 2008, Gazans breached their border with Egypt. Thousands poured through in search of supplies and consumer goods. Yet, as soon as it was able, Egypt resealed the border, re-erected the concrete and barbed wire barriers that have kept Gazans out of Egypt for nearly 40 years.

And why, when Egypt controlled Gaza from 1948 to 1967, did it not allow the Palestinians to relocate freely? Why did it keep them in their refugee camps?

Doesn’t all of this make Egypt a cooccupier?

Over and over, too, I have been told the existing troubles stem from the way Israel forced hundreds of thousands of Palestinians out of their homes between 1947 and 1949 to make way for a Jewish state.

But while it is true that 650,000 Palestinian Arabs were displaced by the founding of Israel, often overlooked are the more than 800,000 Jews who were expelled from Arab states at the same time, and told to go to Israel. Most often, they were forced to leave without their belongings and without compensation for their confiscated property.

The displacement of people was hardly one way.

Israel is Gaza’s largest supplier of humanitarian aid. Since Operation Cast Lead began on Dec. 27, nearly 200 trucks have crossed into the Strip from Israel carrying 6,000 tons of food and medical supplies.

The most badly wounded Palestinians are taken to Israeli hospitals for treatment, too.

Iran eagerly supplies Hamas, Gaza’s rulers, with plenty of weapons to fire on Israel, but it provides precious little food or medical aid for ordinary Palestinians. Nor do Saudi Arabia or any of the oil-rich Gulf states come close to Israel’s aid levels.

Israel may not be blameless in Gaza, but neither is it a cruel, unprovoked aggressor.

Interview with David Harris former Chief of Strategic Planning for CSIS and current Director of INSIGNIS

Here is an interview with a man in a position to know what is going on with respect to Islamic terrorism in the world. He speaks of Iran, Hamas Spain and the soft Jihad. Sadly this is only about thirty percent of the total interview he gave as the sound quality was simply too poor on the first two thirds to be able to make one’s way through. In this last third he does make some very strong points about the truly grave dangers facing the western world, Canada and the USA in particular and the danger of unchecked immigration.

An article by David Harris is available here about the infiltration of Islam to the Canadian political mainstream.

David B. Harris is a Canadian lawyer, Director of INSIGNIS Strategic Research Inc’s International and Terrorist Intelligence Program, and former Chief of Strategic Planning of the Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS).

(Note from James Cohen)

“This show created some difficulty for me, not the least of which is the horrific nature of the information Mr. Harris gave and the severity and immediacy of the threat facing the western world and classical civilization itself, but because I never before have had to edit any show other than making the transitions from speech to music a little smoother but never for content. In this case as we had massive sound issues due to a number of new variables we introduced in this particular show, the first 2/3rds of the program are simply unlistenable and I felt that it would be better removed. However for those who would like to hear the entire file I will make it available as a download by request through email. You can understand the first part but it takes some focus. Anyone wishing to hear the entire show may email me at ja***@***************io.com and I would be happy to send you the entire thing. I wish to stress that no editing was done in order to change the context or nature of any information Dave Harris gave but because of the technical issues with the first parts of the show. Also, after we say good bye to Mr. Harris he brings up a rather excellent point at the end about how people who are preventing any real threat mitigation by demanding no loss of civil rights are very likely facing a situation where any civil rights are a distant memory for all of us and likely for a very long time.”
