Phyllis Chesler on Geert Wilders in New York

“I have come to warn you of a great threat. Free speech is no longer a given, we must now battle for our birthright. We are looking at the end of democracy, the slavery of women, the death of gays. While there might be moderate Muslims, there is no such thing as moderate Islam. Islam is not a religion, it is a political and totalitarian ideology.”

Some would say that these are fighting words.

Indeed, Dutch parliamentarian, Geert Wilders, is fighting for Western liberty and Western values, as rooted in the legacies of “Athens, Rome, and Jerusalem.” This is the legacy he wishes to leave the “children of Europe,” as opposed to the legacy of “Mecca and Gaza.” Wilders is fighting for us all, his fight is our fight. As he said earlier today, “it is not about (him) but about Free Speech.” Today he may be a “criminal, tomorrow, anyone of us might be considered a criminal too,” for telling the truth about the danger that Islam poses to Western democracy. “Today I may be put behind bars. I am not the issue. Will free speech be put behind bars?”

Two stories about Israel and tennis. A match in Dubai where Israeli teams had qualified had to be re worked when the nation of Dubai refused to allow in any Israeli’s despite having signed an agreement to abide by all rules of the world class tennis championships. The Israeli players qualified and where to be allowed to play. Dubai cancelled the visa to let the Isreali’s enter the UAE. I didn’t blog that actually at the time but now that Sweden, while allowing the match to go forward, has banned any spectators from attending for ‘safety reasons’ much like many Scandinavian cities told Jewish kids not to attend school for their own safety and we have something that looks a lot like late 30s Germany despite the thin veneer of a reason. Apparently, so many Muslims in Sweden created such a ‘Fuhrer’ that the authorities felt they had to prevent any attendees at all.

Here is a rather prophetic posted essay from Gates of Vienna dating back to 2004. I think given the events since then especially the response by the Muslim community starting during the defense against attacks from Gaza by Isreal and continuing to this day, its a worthwhile read.

The big story I think of the week so far, (and it’s only Wednesday) is the question of the ‘peace deal’ with the Taliban over the implementation of sharia law in the Swat Valley. I also have not posted a great deal about it because there is just too much wrong with the articles I have read. Firstly, I cannot understand how allowing a  hostile force to implement a reign of terror on the people of Swat is anything other than a surrender. How is it a peace deal or a compromise of any kind? The Taliban has already blown up as many schools for girls as they can. What makes Pakistan think they will stop? This is a large part of sharia law. No education for women except Quoran. Many are fleeing the area mostly women, artists and anyone not wishing to be killed by the flimsiest whims of some Muslim cleric for a seemingly arbitrary breach of this 7th century law. One man was killed for having his pant cuff to low down and he was apparently a good observant Muslim. Also, according to www.stratfor.com some reports seem to show the US very against this deal while other stories show the Obama Administration as supporting it.

No matter how you look at it, it is very bad. Add to this the admission that the Mumbai attacks where planned at the top of the Pakistani military machinery and we have a serious question as to the degree to which Pakistan is any kind of ally at all. Not to mention recent revelations about Musharaff’s known collusion’s with Al Queda and the Taliban using US money and materials to aid them.

Some sites are suggesting that the Pakistanis should allow Taliban to have Swat in exchange for peace with Pakistan. This is absurd of course. Anyone following Pakistan would know that just as one example, The Taliban have threatened to blow up any bus playing Music or movies if they did not stop this practice immediately. They did of course. This was just the first victory. Taliban/Al Queda will not stop until Pakistan is another sharia state and similar to the Afghanistan of the Taliban. Not to mention control of the nukes. Given that the ISI Pakistan’s intelligence inter service agency may have planned and trained the Mumbai attackers as well as supplied the attacks on India of serial concurrent bombings of commercial and tourist areas with commercial explosives its insane to think that giving them a state on the doorstep of Pakistan will do anything except accelerate the process of the destruction of Pakistan as a nation state altogether.

Phyllis Chesler: On the ‘honor killing’ recently in Buffalo

For anyone not familiar yet with Philis Chesler, she is the author who wrote the most excellent article on Islam and feminism titled ‘How Afghanistan Shaped my feminism’ which is a must read. Written some time ago, Phillis married an Afgani and moved with him to Afghanistan where she discovered some of the more fundamental differences between cultures. A truly worthwhile read.

On February 13, 2009, in Orchard Park, a suburb of Buffalo, 44 year-old Muzzamil Hassan, a prominent Muslim businessman was arrested for having be-headed his wife, 37 year-old Aasiya Z. Hassan. Yes, he beheaded her. Aasiya’s crime? She dared to obtain an order of protection which forced her violent husband out of their home.

We are now sadly familiar with some high profile Islamic beheadings of infidels in Muslim lands; Daniel Pearl, Nicholas Berg, immediately come to mind. Sadly, we are also familiar with the practice of beheading, dismembering, burying alive, and stoning Muslim (and sometimes Christian) women to death in Muslim lands. But this took place in a suburb of Buffalo, New York, in America, Land of the Free and Home of the Brave. What can this mean? Why behead a wife who wanted a divorce and who wanted to live free of daily violence? Why didn’t Hassan just agree to a divorce?

Because this foul murder is very probably an honor killing, a crime which has little to do with western-style domestic violence. Erie County District Attorney Frank A Sedita III has it all wrong. He commented: “Obviously, this is the worst form of domestic violence possible.”

Founded TV network to combat negative perceptions of Muslims

Bridges TV founder and Chief Executive Muzzammil Hassan founded the TV network in 2004. According to a Reuters story at that time, “his wife came up with the idea in December 2001 while listening to the radio on a road trip.”:

“Some derogatory comments were being made about Muslims that offended her,” Hassan told Reuters ahead of Tuesday’s launch. “She was seven months pregnant, and she thought she didn’t want her kids growing up in this environment.”

So he founded Bridges TV to combat negative perceptions of Muslims.

But now that he has beheaded his wife, I’m afraid this prominent moderate Muslim will only be feeding those negative perceptions.

One particularly controversial incident came when Middle East correspondent Barbara Plett revealed she had cried as Yasser Arafat was close to death. In 2004 the Israeli government wrote to the BBC accusing reporter Orla Guerin of anti-Semitism and identifying with Palestinian terror groups. It has been suggested the BBC’s recent refusal to show a charity appeal for Gaza, sparking thousands of complaints, was a reaction to these accusations. Politicians have previously branded the corporation’s refusal to reveal the report as ‘absolutely indefensible’ as it is in the public interest.

The corporation has also employed top barristers to fight its case over the years that the legal battle has rumbled on.

My prediction is that they will find a way to arrest him in such a way as we cannot see it and send him back politly. Fascists have learned from history while we have not. They know how to be more effective by avoiding obvious heavy handedness. This link was auto translated from Dutch but here is the original page. I think to watch it live costs a few dollars but the money will go to Geert’s fund. Well worth it. While we are on the topic of sloppy machine translations from Dutch here is a Winston Churchill quote translated from English to Dutch and then robot translated back into English. It astounds me how the mastery of the English language by Sir Winston manages to survive this double switch with lucidity and power. Then of course we have the obligatory ‘daily so outragious descision by Muslims that it’s nearly imposeble to believe its actually happening’ file. Muslim woman sentanced to 100 lashes for being gang raped in Saudi Arabia. Now of course we all know that Muslims routinly punish women for being raped but this is more brutal than usual and also more outragious as she was convicted of adultry and is not even married. Do read this story but do your best not to dismiss it as some far away event. In a globalized world we all know its a matter of months before sharia courts here in the west make the same calls with offical support. Frankly, It probably already is and any media that attempts to report on it is being threatened by Government and Muslims.

Brutal torture-murder of white boy in the UK by Muslims.

Here is a piece from the excellent blog the Opinionator. I wish I could add something to this but I can’t. I suppose we could play the usual game, what of a bunch of white guys did this to a black 15 year old for no reason other than he was black, then how much media would it get and so on. But why bother we allready know this and already know the double standard is in such force it’s hard to believe any newspapers covered it at all let alone major TV and the kind of media frenzy that would happen if it was the other way around.

Another Muslim Race Hate Attack on Kriss Donald’s Street

What could be described one if not THE most despicable race hate crimes in Scotland/Britain was the horrific murder of 15 year old schoolboy, Kriss Donald – who was tortured and killed by muslim gang/men for no other reason than the young lad was white. Even the left leaning oft muslim apologist newspaper, The Guardian, was compelled to report gruesome murder:

“The court had heard that Kriss was jumped on as he walked down a street near his home with a friend. As he was bundled into a car, he screamed: “Why me? I’m only 15.”

His mutilated body was found the next day on a walkway in the east end of the city. The slightly built boy had been beaten, held down and stabbed 13 times, then set on fire while he was still alive. Bleeding to death and burning, he tried to crawl towards the river Clyde but died in a ditch.

A passerby who found his body the following day thought he had stumbled across the carcass of a dead animal. ”  LINK

“The jury was told that Kriss was probably still alive when he was doused in petrol and set alight. Forensic experts said burns covered more than 70 per cent of his body. He was found on a walkway next to the river Clyde, near Celtic FC’s training ground, the next day.

There are even more grusome details about this killing on the original sites. With great sadness, I ask you to please click over and read the rest of this story. Yes. It is much worse than this. Castration, eye gouging, pure hatred of white people motivated this attack in England by guests in that nation who are Muslim.

Geert Wilders persona non grata in England?

This morning Lord Malcolm Pearson, a member of the British House of Lords, announced that he has invited Geert Wilders, a member of the Dutch Parliament, to show the movie Fitna (see it here ) in a committee room of the House of Lords next Thursday (12 February). Mr. Wilders has been asked to address a private meeting with members of the British Parliament, explaining to the Peers and MPs why he made Fitna and to engage in an open and frank discussion with them.

This afternoon Mr. Wilders received a letter from the British ambassador to the Netherlands saying that he is a “persona non grata“ in the United Kingdom. The ambassador told Mr. Wilders that he is a threat to public security and public harmony because of the controversy created by Fitna. Mr. Wilders intends to go to London anyway. “Let them arrest me in Heathrow,” he says.

If Mr. Wilders is denied entry to the United Kingdom, it will be the first time that Britain refuses entry to an elected politician from another member state of the European Union. The Dutch government has lodged formal objections with the British government over the unprecedented barring of an EU parliamentarian by another EU country.

Sexual abuse of young boys by clerics rampant in Pakistan.

One cleric retaliated against refusal by a boy to have sex with him by spraying the boy with acid. No matter how sick and twisted one thinks the religion of peace may be, there is always another shocker around the corner. From About Atheism.com

The Telegraph reports:

Lawyers and campaigners against sexual abuse of children say that it is not uncommon in Pakistan, especially in the segregated surroundings of the country’s estimated 20,000 religious schools, but cases involving members of the clergy are rarely – if ever – exposed. … Haroon Tanoli, Abid’s father, met strong resistance when he tried to take up his son’s case with officials at the school. He says that they offered to help him secure a cash payment from the alleged attackers, provided that he did not involve the police. Since then, he has been threatened with harsh consequences for refusing to back down.

Even as Abid was receiving treatment, the religious authorities pressed the hospital to discharge him. Mr Tanoli managed to get him admitted to a different hospital, where he is being treated free, although the family cannot afford an operation to save his sight. Mr Tanoli refuses to back down, despite being offered one million rupees (£12,000) by the teacher’s relations if he withdraws the charges. He has moved to a secret location for his own safety.

Is this what we are fighting for in Afghanistan?

According to MSNBC two men face a death sentance for ‘misinterpreting quoran‘ by writing a pocket size edition of it. I don’t care if they had wonderful intentions by Islamic standards meaning a Koran that’s easier to carry or if they like Salmon Rushdie meant to mock it and raise awareness of what a god awful piece of crap it is (pun intended with apologies) either way how dare western troops be in Afghanistan to support a government that would kill a person for writing something down. This is not the first incident under the Karazai Government. A man was sentenced to death last year as written about here on Vlad for bringing a piece of paper into class questioning whether Islam was in opposition to woman’s rights. This was at a university. Students are supposed to ask questions of their societies. He was sentenced to death and the judges at his ‘trial’ actually where shocked to discover that it was possible to print something off of the internet. This means either printers or the internet will not be legal long in Afghanistan I wager.

The pocket-size translation of the Quran has already landed six men in prison in Afghanistan and left two of them begging judges to spare their lives. They’re accused of modifying the Quran and their fate could be decided Sunday in court.

The trial illustrates what critics call the undue influence of hardline clerics in Afghanistan, a major hurdle as the country tries to establish a lawful society amid war and militant violence.

The book appeared among gifts left for the cleric at a major Kabul mosque after Friday prayers in September 2007. It was a translation of the Quran into one of Afghanistan’s languages, with a note giving permission to reprint the text as long as it was distributed for free.

Some of the men of the mosque said the book would be useful to Afghans who didn’t know Arabic, so they took up a collection for printing. The mosque’s cleric asked Ahmad Ghaws Zalmai, a longtime friend, to get the books printed.

But as some of the 1,000 copies made their way to conservative Muslim clerics in Kabul, whispers began, then an outcry.

Many clerics rejected the book because it did not include the original Arabic verses alongside the translation. It’s a particularly sensitive detail for Muslims, who regard the Arabic Quran as words given directly by God. A translation is not considered a Quran itself, and a mistranslation could warp God’s word.

‘Zalmai is an infidel. He should be killed’
The clerics said Zalmai, a stocky 54-year-old spokesman for the attorney general, was trying to anoint himself as a prophet. They said his book was trying to replace the Quran, not offer a simple translation. Translated editions of the Quran abound in Kabul markets, but they include Arabic verses.

UN backs down on claiming Israel hit UNRWA school

THE UN has retracted claims over one of the biggest controversies in the Gaza war, admitting that an Israeli mortar attack that killed 43 people did not hit a school run by a UN agency.

The January 6 incident, described at the time as the “school massacre”, figured prominently in accusations that Israel committed war crimes in the deaths of hundreds of civilians during the war.

A statement issued yesterday by the UN Office for the Co-ordination of Human Affairs acknowledged that it had wrongly blamed the deaths at the time on the “shelling of the UNRWA (Relief and Works Agency) school”.

“The humanitarian co-ordinator would like to clarify that the shelling, and all of the fatalities, took place outside rather than inside the school,” the statement said.

The clarification came several days after a journalist for Canada’s Globe and Mail newspaper, Patrick Martin, interviewed Palestinians living near the school and a teacher, who told him that none of the casualties were in the school but on the street outside.

In a television interview the day of the incident at a Gaza hospital where casualties were brought, the UNRWA operations director in Gaza, John Ging, an Irish national, did not explicitly say the shells had hit the school but he left that impression.
