Wilders cleared of all charges.

It has been several hours and many commenters have already announced the news, along with countless blogs and websites. I chose not to yet. The reason is, I do not understand the Dutch legal system which from what I have seen so far, is far afield from anything I am used to such as the Canadian, US or British systems. The very notion that the prosecutors in the previous incarnation of the Wilders trial had decided the charges were phony at best and political at worst and decided to drop it, only to have the ‘crown’ (I presume it is called the crown as they have a monarchy there) or the chief prosecutors office decide to retry him on the pathetic excuse that his previous objection to the trial, an objection Wilders attourney had made long before, was biased as were the judges etc.

The crown did not accept this objection until it was obvious that Wilders would win his case. Then suddenly it mattered.

So I am not celebrating this as a victory as I have no idea if it is one yet. More research is needed on this. I am posting now because one thing I read was, ‘No further prosecution on this matter is possible’ or words to that effect. In that case this really is a win. Unless they reframe the charges and try again.

We will know at the latest when Geert Wilders releases his much anticipated sequel to Fitna, Fitna II.

Wilders Cleared of Incitement Charges

Right-wing populist Geert Wilders has been cleared of all charges.

Right-wing populist Geert Wilders has been cleared of all charges.

A Dutch court on Thursday acquitted controversial right-wing populist politician Geert Wilders on all charges relating to anti-Islamic statements he made in his films and on the Internet. The court said Wilders’ comments had been part of a legitimate public debate.

After nearly six months, a trial against Dutch firebrand Geert Wilders ended Thursday in Amsterdam. A court acquitted the right-wing populist politician on charges of incitement, racial hatred and discrimination against Muslims.

In his verdict, leading judge Marcel van Oosten said that, while Wilders’ statements were indeed offensive to Muslims, they were also part of the legitimate political debate. Wilders’ claim that Islam is a violent religion and his demands for an immigration ban for Muslims had to be viewed in the context of the larger societal debate about immigration policies, the judge argued. He said the statements could not be directly blamed for increasing levels of discrimination against Dutch Muslims.

Wilders’ supporters greeted the ruling, and the politician himself smiled as he left the courtroom.

Comparing the Koran to ‘Mein Kampf’

The politician had been on trial since October 2010 because he compared the Koran with Adolf Hitler’s “Mein Kampf” in Internet forums and in “Fitna” , a film he made that was extremely critical of Islam. In his closing statement, Wilders said that his controversial statements against Islam were protected by the right to free speech. Wilders said he believed the process of Islamization presents a threat to Europe and that it is his right and duty to warn the public about it.

If he had been convicted, Wilders could have faced up to one year in jail or a fine of up to €7,600 ($10,865). At the peak of the controversy over his statements, Wilders was once even banned from entering the United Kingdom.

After making strong gains in elections in the Netherlands last summer, Wilders’ party has become the third strongest in parliament. Although it is not technically part of the government, Wilders party supports the minority government, which is comprised of the center-right Liberal Party and the conservative Christian Democrats and which would collapse without backing from Wilders’ Party of Freedom.

Wilders’ comments sparked a massive debate on the integration of Muslims in Europe that has helped fuel other populist movements around the continent. In Germany , politician Thilo Sarrazin wrote a bestselling book warning that Muslim immigrants were dumbing the country down.

Muzzling Muslim Muezzin

This is something I have fantasized about doing myself many many times. My warmest congratulations to the people in Bulgaria that had the stones to go and actually do it. If they ever put up a mosque near me and start blaring that crap five times a day, I hope I have what it takes to do this:

Thank you AK very much for the tip.

Baroness Cox: ‘If we ignore wrongs, we condone them’

Here is a stunning article by a women who is rapidly becoming my new hero. A true classical liberal and a brave one. I am ashamed that I have not heard of her till now.

From The Independent:

When Baroness Cox takes up a cause, she invariably courts controversy. Her latest – a campaign against sharia law – is no exception. Jerome Taylor meets her

Baroness Cox TERI PENGILLEY

Baroness Cox outside the Houses of Parliament

If there is one thing Baroness Caroline Cox is not afraid of it is whipping up controversy. For almost three decades the Christian peer has sat in the House of Lords campaigning on one obscure issue to another, desperately trying to alert Britain’s political elite to some of the world’s forgotten conflicts. Nagorno-Karabakh, southern Sudan, Burma, Nigeria: If there is an ignored conflict – particularly one in which Christians are facing persecution – you can bet the 73-year-old will have been there.

“I seem to spend half my life in a jungle, a desert or half way up a mountain,” she says, explaining her return from Burma, which she entered illegally to report on rights abuses against minority tribes. She will soon travel back to Sudan, which is lurching back towards civil war.

She often enters war zones under fire – no one could deny that Baroness Cox is brave. But the tactics she uses often raise eyebrows. In the 1990s, she infuriated anti-slavery groups when she began travelling into Sudan to buy slaves from Arab traders with money raised by evangelical churches.

By her own reckoning she spent somewhere in the region of £100,000 freeing more than 2,000 slaves during 55 trips to Sudan – one of the few countries at the time where slavery was still openly practised, often with deliberate government backing. Continue Reading →

Oskar Freysinger, a hero in France.

Here is a screen capture of the first part of an article, a machine translation from French. The people of Paris received the Swiss man, Oskar Freysinger, who was the force behind the direct democracy plebiscite in Switzerland to ban the building of minarettes, as a conquoring hero. For the whole article please click here for the machine translation and here for the original article in French.

Denmark passes law for automatic deportation of criminal immigrants.

This is a great step back from the abyss for civilization. Now, if an immigrant commits a crime while in Denmark, they will be automatically deported right after their sentence is served. There are still some caveats such as ‘certainty that their life is in danger’ or related matters but according to this article the burden of proof has been reversed as the deportation is now automatic and it will be up to the defense to prove that it cannot legally be done. This likely will pit Denmark against the EU even more as does its new enforcing of its own borders. It looks like some people are coming to grips with reality at last. Court order allows Christian leaflets at Arab fest

Posted On: 6/15/2011

DEARBORN, Mich. (AP) — A Detroit federal judge has signed an order allowing Christian evangelists to work the sidewalks of a popular Arab-American festival in Dearborn.

The three-day festival starts Friday in the heavily Arab Detroit suburb. Christian activists led by a California pastor like to attend the festival to try to convert Muslims.

A federal appeals court in May said Dearborn couldn’t prohibit the evangelists from passing leaflets on sidewalks inside the festival boundaries. The court found that past restrictions violated free-speech rights.

Judge Paul Borman signed an order Tuesday reinforcing the decision by the appeals court. He says it applies to city officials, Dearborn police, festival organizers and the Wayne County sheriff’s office.

Emotions run high at the Dearborn ‘Arab’ festival.

Before I post this newest video, I think there are a few important questions that need attention.

1. Why is a festival based on race, an Arab festival, being tolerated in the US where a White European festival or any variant would be closed before it opened.

2. Why is there no sign of Egyptian Copts, or Lebanese Christians or any non-Muslim presence at this festival? Why are they clearly synonymizing Islam with Arabs in this way? I would very much like to hear from any non-Muslim Arab on this festival especially ones who displayed there or even went on a ride. If there are rides.

Here is a comment from a fellow blogger on the issue that has some important non-MSM videos of the event that need to be seen at his (?) site.

Comment:
I don’t think non-muslim Arabs would be welcome, they’d be in grave danger if they were there. “Arab Festival” is a misnomer, it really is an “Islamic Festival”. I have coverage of yesterday’s events at my place too, and there is a video posted there that I hope you’ll check out of Rabbi Nachum Shifren giving an amazing speech before Dr. Terry Jones spoke in Dearborn yesterday. The rabbi was very brave and had been interrupted many times by the islamonazis in the audience, who even (predictably) screamed “F*ck the Jews!”, but the Rabbi was undaunted. Also in the video I have, when terry Jones spoke, he asked for a moment of silence for the Detroit cop who’d been killed by vehicular jihad a few days before, of course the crowd showed no respect, nor did they when the Pledge of Allegiance was recited. you are welcome to repost the video, here is the link to where you can find it at my place:

Dutch parliament wants to tackle pirates ashore

Anyone think this might be a sign of Geert Wilders’ excellent influence in the Parliament of the Netherlands?

The Dutch navy will be allowed to fight pirates on Somali territory. A majority in Dutch parliament agreed with Defence Minister, Hans Hillen, today that the anti-piracy effort has to be upgraded. Minister Hillen guarantees, however, that the Dutch won’t be involved in the fight against terrorism that is currently being fought in Somalia. Continue Reading →

Who ya gonna call? Mosque Busters!

Now this is service. A British barrister has offered his services free of charge to anyone who wishes to fight plans for construction of a Mosque in England. All he needs, is for anyone who wishes his services, to contact their local planning council and see if there is a request to build a new mosque in that area, and then contact him and let him know.

If he gets the request early enough to act on it, he will do so on his own dime and with a fresh and important approach. Please check this video from his website.

This is an exciting development I think. Someone actually willing to risk their professional careers to fight for the continuation of secular liberal Western democracy. These are the kinds of guts we need a great deal more of. If anyone reading this is aware of any plans to construct a Mosque in England, please contact Gavin right away. If anyone can afford to help him out with a few dollars to help him cover his expenses for these kinds of fights I am guessing that would be accepted gratefully as well.

I will be following this man’s efforts closely. I have a suspicion there are great headlines in his future.

Thanks to Tundra Tabloids for this great photo!

British govt. still doesn’t get it at all.

Ok it appears to be a step in the right direction. This video claims that the British government will attempt to block access to Al Queda’s glossy magazine, ‘Inspire’, although they do not name it as such, clearly that is what they are on about.

But Inspire is just a manifestation of Islam. No matter what criteria you use to block Inspire, it will equally or greater apply to the Koran, the Sunna (example of Islam’s thug-lord Mohamed) a point that Geert Wilders attempted to make in vain in the Netherlands when he demanded that the Koran be banned as the reasoning used to ban Hitler’s manifesto applies even more accurately to Koran. For his trouble, he was arrested and is being endlessly tried until they can find a grand inquisitor that is ready to convict him despite it being contrary to Dutch law and more importantly, to the entire spirit of Dutch law.

In any case, here is an example of the latest effort by the UK government to cope with it’s own false dichotomy of ‘extremism’ Vs. some fictional kind of nice Islam.

This man ham sole

The judge who said she “could not imagine a more racist incident” desperately needs a reality check. 1. Islam is not a race and what this guy did was no more racist or criminal than if he left copies of Saving Private Ryan outside Nazi headquarters during a meeting on the final solution. Or opening a Che T shirt stand outside communist party headquarters. He did something that was offensive to an offensive ideology. If the judge wants to know what real racism sounds like, she should go to any 3 mosques anywhere on earth and perhaps especially in the U.S. and U.K. Clearly she pretends that what was shown in ‘Undercover Mosque‘ was a series of isolated incidents and the exception that proves the rule as did the events in Undercover Mosque 2, the return.

David Cameron confronts Sharia law to assert British values

From Archbishop Cranmer:

This is going to be very interesting.

Following the Prime Minister’s Munich speech in February when he spoke of the failure of multiculturalism, the Government is now fleshing out the policy and explaining the practical implications. Having unequivocally and quite rightly declared war on Islamism (ie Islamic terrorism), it is widely reported (and here, here and here) that the Government now intends to tackle ‘radicalisation’ (ie the cause of Islamism) by cutting state funding ‘to any Islamic group that espoused extremist views’.

These ‘extremist views’ have yet to be codified, but they must of necessity include those precepts of sharia which are inimical to the values of a liberal democracy. David Cameron has already called for an end to the sharia agenda : he made it clear that any expansion of the Islamic code in the UK would indeed undermine society and alienate other communities. He was right to observe that two codes of law cannot work side-by-side: one must give way to the other. We cannot have different laws for different communities: all citizens must be equal before the law, under the ultimate jurisdiction of English or Scottish law.

And so it appears henceforth that Islamic groups will need to subscribe to ‘key British values’. Home Secretary Theresa May criticises in particular the Federation of Student Islamic Societies for being soft on extremism. “They need to be prepared to stand up and say that organisations that are extreme or support extremism or have extremist speakers should not be part of their grouping,” Mrs May said.

But here’s where it gets interesting.

The Government defines as extremist anyone who ‘does not subscribe to human rights, equality before the law, democracy and full participation in society’, including those who ‘promote or implicitly tolerate the killing of British soldiers’.

Those who actively and explicitly promote the killing of British soldiers are traitors to the state and (in His Grace’s opinion) ought to be dealt with in the traditional manner. But the ‘implicit toleration’ of such killing is treason of quite a different hue: it appears that the Muslim Council of Britain will no longer be able to maintain a dignified silence when the UK goes to war with some section of the Ummah, for silence will surely amount to implicit toleration. Does praise of bin Laden (his heirs and successors) amount to implicit toleration of the killing of British soldiers? Does the refusal of a British Muslim soldier (or reservists) to fight in Iraq or Afganistan constitute implicit toleration of the killing of their comrades?>For the rest of this very interesting set of observations, please click over to the site linked here and at the top.
