THE SITE (acronym for “Search for International Terrorist Entities”) is a highly recognized group in the United States, hired to monitor jihadist activities by the US government and private companies, as a kind of risk consultancy.

In 2004 Katz was praised by the FBI for his contributions to research on terrorism and, in 2007, his group was credited with finding the first videos of Osama bin Laden after three years of silence.

A spokesman the Bavarian Interior Ministry said that the attacker was a 17-year-old Afghan citizen. In an interview with Bayerischer Rundfunk [Bavarian Radio], Interior Minister Joachim Herrmann confirmed the information regarding the underage attacker. Relying on eyewitnesses, the police were starting from the premise of a lone perpetrator, said Herrmann. He had come to Germany without parents, had been living for a while in the parish of Würzburg, in an institution in Ochsenfurt. Most recently, he had been living with a foster family.

Answering the question whether there was the possibility of an Islamist background, Herrmann said there had allegedly been “a yell”.

“According to my information there is an account reporting a cry of ‘Allahu Akbar’”, the Interior Minister said in the Nachtmagazin [Night Magazine] of ARD [public TV]. This needed to be verified. “Apart from that, according to my information, the passengers on the train did not note any specific Islamist background or anything like that,” Herrmann said. Where is the righteous anger, the determined and absolute call to the terrorists followed by actions, instead of the ever same phrases and hang-in-there rallying calls? “We strongly stand on France’s side”, sounds exactly like the phrase machine from the chancellor, regardless of whether she resides in Berlin or in Ulan Bator.

Michel Cadot. I had no knowledge of these facts, nor by the Forensic Institute or by the officials in question. It is obviously up to the court to assess the veracity of the investigation. “For us, everyone was dead.” Before the parliamentary commission investigating the 2015 attacks, the Police Commissioner who was the very first responder of the Paris Bataclan concert November 13, tells how he shot down one of the jihadists. A chilling story, delivered in camera and anonymously, the transcript of which was released on Tuesday.

The man especially shares the feeling of terror during the first moments of the operation, even outside the room, seeing “the dead people on the ground in front of us.” “I remember seeing two: a man in front of the Bataclan Café and a woman outside the entrance. We (also with his police driver, Ed) were recorded because someone was filming with a mobile phone. We told him to leave. We heard gunfire.” The police commissioner then looked at his partner, saying: “Let’s go.” The two men understood each other in a glance, according to him. “It was enough to understand that we were on the same wavelength, and we were unified, a team.”

Around 9:54 p.m., the two team members enter the Bataclan, without waiting for reinforcements, and without knowing what awaits them inside.” As soon as we started to move forward, Bataclan’s wooden swinging doors opened towards us, and between fifteen and thirty people fled running and screaming in our direction,” he said before the parliamentary committee. “From the moment we started to progress down the hall, the shooting stopped, and when we entered, there was no more shooting, it was silence.” “There, the scene was indescribable — you can imagine. Hundreds of bodies — for us, everyone was dead — were entangled with each other: at the bar, in the pit, sometimes piled on more than one meter [three feet] high,” he says. The man then describes an “icy silence” in this still concert hall that was so festive only a few minutes earlier. The Commissioner then describes the terrible face-to-face that eventually led him to kill one of the jihadists who was about 25 meters [80 feet]  away. “One of the terrorists, whom we later identified as Samy Amimour […] appeared on the scene. He was in front of us and was holding his assault rifle and threatening a young man a few meters from him. I shot four times and my teammate did twice. The man uttered a groan, collapsed and fell to the ground.”

Seconds later, the officer described an explosion “very high”. This was actually Samy Amimour’s explosive belt that went off. Then an exchange of fire took place in the room, before a new pause. The two men ducked. “We were certain we would not get out of that hell alive,” he said. “There were only the two of us, we didn’t have rifles, we didn’t know where the terrorists were. So I decided to go out to see if reinforcements had arrived.”

“The living pretending to be dead”

Once the two policemen left the room, the gunfire resumed “piecemeal” inside. “So we understand that they are executing people. It was not humanly possible […] for us to stay outside. So we’re all back inside (there are now a dozen policemen, Ed). There was still shooting in our direction, but it was really hard to tell where from. I fired back twice.” When they arrive, people still don’t move. “We could tell that even the living were pretending to be dead,” insists the policeman.

The man explains that after a moment, when the shooting stopped, he decided “to go find the victims who were in the pit a few meters from us.” There, they began to move and to show themselves. “We started to implement an evacuation, one by one, not without difficulties: the floor was very slippery, because there was blood and casings everywhere. We had to step over or move the deceased. There were also people that we knew very well were seriously injured, but we had to retrieve them anyway, unable to use normal aid techniques to transport the victims,” says the police Commissioner.

RIO – A Brazilian member of the Islamic state was preparing an attack on the French delegation during the Olympic Games in Rio, according to the results of a parliamentary survey released on Wednesday by the French newspaper “Libération”. The content was revealed during a hearing behind closed doors on May 26 with the head of the military intelligence (Direction du Renseignement Militaire), General Christophe Gomart, in a Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry about the 2015 attacks in France. The report was the site of headline European newspaper.
In the published transcript, Gomart does not give many details about the attack plan and responds to parliamentarians he just learned about the information “through partners.”

According to “Libération”, this passage should not have gone public, which explains the apparent inconsistency of the transcript. In the text published on the National Assembly website, Gomart reports the monitoring carried out by the intelligence service on suspects originated from Yemen and Libya, when the subject suddenly appears, as can be seen below:

The police have successfully averted the danger of an armed man in the Theater complex Kinopolis. The man was shot. According to information the guns were ‘alarm guns’ (fake). Now his identity is being established.*

A man was shot at a special police intervention in the south hessian town of Viernheim. Towards 14:45 an emergency call was made to the Police station Southhessian, whereby a masked and armed man was seen at the Theater complex Kinopolis.

Apparently he had threatened employees with a machine gun, then he shot four shots, and entered the fully occupied theater. According to a young cinema employee who activated the silent alarm, the offender was 18 to 22 years old, and about 1.75 meters tall.

He had made a somewhat confused impression, the hessian minister of the inner Peter Beuth (CDU) has said. Four shots were fired, and hostages were also within the “influence area of the offender”, according to Beuth’s information. From what has been found so far the weapons of the attacker were fake guns. From the about 30 people in the cinema nobody was injured.

Nobody could give any information about the identity of the offender so far. He didn’t carry any ID papers. There is no hint towards an islamic background, the police has said. The motives have to first be found, as soon as the identity of the man has been established. The office of the district attorney Darmstadt and the Hessian regional Office of Criminal Investigation have picked up the investigation.

Special police forces from Frankfurt were on location within a very short time. Apparently they were flown to the site via helicopter. When the police entered the theater room, the attacker was killed. Towards 18:00 the operation was over.

The police has established a gag order. One hospital in Darmstadt announced that they had activated their emergency plan. They were prepared for multiple injured people.

2. Poppy Day beheading attack plotter jailed for life

A man has been jailed for life for plotting a street beheading around the time of Remembrance Sunday in 2014.

Nadir Syed, 23, of west London, was convicted last year of preparing to carry out a so-called Islamic State-inspired attack in London, which could have targeted a poppy seller.

The judge said Syed must serve at least 15 years but he may never be released.

His cousin Yousaf Syed, 20, of High Wycombe, and Haseeb Hamayoon, 29, of west London, were cleared at a retrial.

 

 

3. Corbyn rejects Herzog invitation to visit Israel

British Labour Party leader Jeremy Corbyn wrote his Israeli counterpart Isaac Herzog Thursday, turning down his invitation to come to Israel following a spate of anti-Semitic incidents involving officials in his party.

In a letter Herzog wrote Corbyn April 30, he invited him to Jerusalem to visit the Yad Vashem Holocaust Museum “to better understand the scourge of anti-semitism” after incidents that Herzog said “sicken all those of moral conscience to the core” and “must act as a red alert and prompt immediate action.”

Herzog wrote Corbyn after former London Mayor Ken Livingstone told the BBC that Adolf Hitler was a Zionist and Labor lawmaker Naz Shah suggested that Israelis should be moved en mass to the United States.
