France to close embassies in fear of cartoon backlash

France announced Wednesday it will close 20 embassies across the Muslim world on Friday after French weekly Charlie Hebdo published cartoons of the Prophet Mohammed naked, amid growing unrest over an anti-Islamic film that has left dozens dead.

The French foreign ministry announced Wednesday that France will close 20 of its embassies in Muslim countries this Friday following the publication of controversial Prophet Mohammed cartoons by satirical weekly Charlie Hebdo. Major protests in the Muslim world generally take place after Friday prayers.

The illustrations, which show the Prophet Mohammed naked and refer to the incendiary US-made film which has been fueling deadly unrest among Muslim communities for over a week, hit newsstands across France on Wednesday.

The magazine’s editor, Stephane Charbonnier, told reporters that the pictures, which are printed on the back page, will “shock those who will want to be shocked.”

Attacked: a kosher supermarket

An original Translation by Michael Laudahn:

from Le Figaro

A kosher supermarket at Sarcelles (Val-d’Oise) was the taraget, today around noon, of an attack carried out by two persons armed with a grenade ‘of low power’, which left one person slightly injured but caused few damages, has been communicated by various coinciding sources.

Four persons were taken to the Gonesse hospital, one of them suffering from contusions at the arm, the other three being in a state of shock, according to the firefighters. A police source mentioned a ‘low-power grenade’. The direction interrégionale of the police judiciaire (DIPJ) [CID] at Versailles is in charge of the investigation.

By the middle of the afternoon, none of the presumed aggressors had been arrested, according to the source. ‘A plaster grenade has broken the store’s glass door, it was not an inflammable or explosive object’, declared Marc Djeballi, responsible of the city’s jewish community, who repaired to the location. ‘The damages are minor’, he added. ‘There was in fact an attack at the interior of a kosher supermarket at Sarcelles, around noon time’, including ‘two individuals wearing black clothes who threw an object’, announced earlier Richard Prasquier, président du Conseil Représentatif des Institutions Juives de France (CRIF).

At this time, no link can be established between this attack and the tensions triggered by the islamophobe film Innocence of Muslims or the caricatures of the prophet Mohammed, today published by Charlie Hebdo [satirical weekly]. ‘Many people stock up just before the Kippur fest, which falls on coming wednesday’, explained for his part Moshé Cohen-Sabban, président des communautés juives du Val-d’Oise.

According to him, presently there are no particular inter-community problems at Sarcelles, ‘despite problems of rudeness’. ‘But there is a strong climate of antisemitism at a national level. For no specific cause, this can easily escalate’, he explained.

Sammy Ghozlan, président du Bureau National de Vigilance Contre les Actes Antisémites (BNVCAA), said that the two aggressors, who had their faces masked, threw a big ‘grenade’ into the store, a ‘supérette’.

The président du consistoire, Joël Mergui, announced that he was repairing to the site. Numerous CRS vehicles  were stationed at the city limits, at the access to the police station.   Sarcelles, at times monikered ‘petite Jérusalem’, popular municipality counting 60 000 inhabitants north of Paris, accomodates a relevant jewish community which came from northern Africa in the 1960s.

FRENCH POLICE GUARDING SATIRIST CHARLIE HEBDO BUILDING IN WAKE OF MOHAMED CARTOON RELEASE

Folks, there is no easy way out of this.

As long as it’s necessary for police to safeguard a building from being firebombed do to irate Muslims, then the mocking of their religious figures, as distasteful as it is, is paramount and needs to continue and be defended. No one group can be allowed to intimidate others through violence from expressing an opinion. You let it slip here, then free speech is doomed for good.

Riot police were guarding the offices of a satirical magazine in Paris last night as it prepared to publish cartoons mocking the Prophet Mohammed.

Charlie Hedbo’s HQ in the French capital was firebombed last year after it published an issue it claimed had been guest-edited by Mohammed.

Despite the attack, it has now decided to print further drawings, including one of the Prophet in a wheelchair being pushed by a Jewish Rabbi.

Islamists: a demonstration at the gates of the Elysée

Chamseleeses:

Original Translation by Michael Laudahn:

The french government is disturbed by the islamist demonstration which took place saturday, before the american Paris embassy.

Around 150 persons, depicted as close to salafist circles, have been arrested.

Question: Is this branch of extreme islam on the point of striking roots in the french banlieues? Primarily two things cause discomfort, first that this demonstration could take place in France, secondly that salafists managed to mobilise 250 persons. Then, that it proceeded at the verge of the US embassy, ie next to the Elysée – the buildings are virtually neighbours -, and also close to the interior ministry, which lies vis-à-vis the Elysée. In this quarter no demonstrations ever take place, and many people were shocked to watch over the tv how the Elysée white-shirt police overpowered demonstrators directly on the palace’s [Elysée] sidewalk.

What has happened? This demonstration was certainly not authorised, it was informal, the assembly was launched via the internet, through social networks. The salafists, accompanied by a handful of banlieue youngsters, found themselves at the Place de la Concorde. They couldn’t approach the embassy of the United States, which is permanently guarded by a major police force. So they dispersed into small groups that tried to approach the Elysée, and one of them made it. Ultimately, the police arrested 152 persons, in order to check their identity.

Since the debate has started to rage, former prime minister François Fillon has addressed the president of the republic, asking him how he could permit these people to approach the Elysée. The present prime minister responded by saying that the police had a job to do. Regarding the background, the president of the french council of the moslem cult has deplored this action, while qualifying it as marginal; simultaneously, Dalil Boubakeur, rector of the Paris mosque launched an appeal to the young moslems, asking them not to cede to the salafists’ sirens. Adding that he was anxious, and that this event should not be downplayed. This is also the opinion held by Manuel Valls, interior minister, who fears escalations, while remembering the gesture act of that radical islamist who left France by train on 8 june, in order to go and stab at random two officers at Molenbeek [Brussels, Belgium – this incident was reported here]. Unfortunately, there is a favourable humus in the french banlieues, where we find numerous youngsters whose ancestors were immigrants, poorly integrated into french society, and who are looking for a sense in their lives. The [french] republic will try to get them on board its values – hoping it will not be too late.

Peaceful Muslims in France promise to slit the throat of Jews

check the chant at 2:30. By now everyone likely knows the chant about Kaybar. If not, Ill add an explanation later.

H/T Martin

At around 2:30 you hear a chant that is roughly, ‘Kaybar Kaybar something something al Yehud’

Andrew Bostom was kind enough to send me the following explanation for that chant

Muhammad’s failures or incomplete successes were consistently recompensed by murderous attacks on the Jews. The Muslim prophet-warrior developed a penchant for assassinating individual Jews, and destroying Jewish communities ”by expropriation and expulsion (Banu Quaynuqa and B. Nadir), or massacring their men, and enslaving their women and children (Banu Qurayza). Just before subduing the Medinan Jewish tribe Banu Qurayza and orchestrating the mass execution of their adult males, Muhammad invoked perhaps the most striking Koranic motif for the Jews debasement–”he addressed these Jews, with hateful disparagement, as “You brothers of monkeys.” Subsequently, in the case of the Khaybar Jews, Muhammad had the male leadership killed, and plundered their riches. The terrorized Khaybar survivors ”industrious Jewish farmers ”became prototype subjugated dhimmis whose productivity was extracted by the Muslims as a form of permanent booty. (And according to the Muslim sources, even this tenuous vassalage was arbitrarily terminated within a decade of Muhammad’s death when Caliph Umar expelled the Jews of Khaybar.)

Veil-wearer faces penalty for biting policeman

The Local.Fr

An 18-year-old veil-wearing woman faces a penalty for biting a policeman in Marseille during a “mini-riot” that erupted when she was checked for violating France’s dress code.

The prosecutor in the case on Thursday demanded a six-month suspended jail sentence for Louise-Marie Suisse, who appeared in court with a traditional Muslim headscarf, although her face was not covered.

In a case that has attracted national attention, Suisse was checked by two police officers for wearing a  full veil over her head near a mosque in the centre of Marseille on the night of July 25, Le Parisien reported.

French legislation outlaws the wearing of veils that cover the face in public places.

However, Suisse refused to remove the veil, stating that she did not respect the laws of the Republic, nor their authority.

France: “Worse than Sarkozy”

Die Presse:

France: “Worse than Sarkozy”

The socialist government resumes the policies of its predecessor regarding gypsies and clears illegal settlements.

Unimpressed by protests from relief organizations and angry objections coming from left-wing circles, the socialist Interior Minister Manuel Valls continues clearing illegal gypsy settlements with the help of the police.

Last Tuesday, a settlement with 180 inhabitants was cleared in a suburb of Lyon. The authorities indicated that the private plot of land being occupied by them will be needed for construction purposes. After this, the gypsies settled in a nearby park. The first police actions that took place in the region of Lille at the beginning of this month sparked loud protests from left-wingers, and in contrast, Valls had the approval of the right wing. This strengthens again the suspicion of his critics that the new interior minister continues to apply the repressive policies against immigrants coming from Romania and Bulgaria. This very policy caused France to be denounced in the EU during Sarkozy’s term on the grounds of discrimination.

Last week the government discussed its policies regarding gypsies, and the outcome was the loosening of the regulations concerning the access to the labor market for EU citizens in order to support labor integration, but nothing changed substantially. The government does not want to renounce to deportations to countries of origin or the clearing of settlements in the name of the rule of law or human dignity.

Families repeatedly chased away

From the point of view of the families affected, the modus operandi of the agents at the behest of the socialist Interior Minister is identical to the actions taken by his conservative predecessor. Gilberte Renard, a member of the human rights league who was present at yesterday’s clearing, felt sorry that those gypsy families had been repeatedly chased away. Clearing settlements without alternative accommodations is useless. “Valls is worse than Sarkozy!”, a member of a gypsy NGO complained in front of TV cameras.

France discusses sending in the military to Muslim controlled, ‘no-go-zones’ within France itself.

An original translation by Michael Laudahn:

Le Monde.Fr

‘It’s not the army’s job to control the [Mohammedan] quarters,’ according to [French president] Hollande

‘It’s not the army’s job to control the quarters.’ Just as [interior minister] Manuel Valls did earlier that same day, the President of the Republic has swept aside a proposal by a socialist deputy from Marseille who had appealed for sending the military to fight against drug trafficking.

The PS [Parti Socialiste] senator and mayor of the city’s 15th and 16th arrondissements, Samia Ghali, spoke out on Thursday, during an interview given to La Provence, after a 25-year-old man was killed Wednesday evening with a burst from a Kalashnikov in the northern neighbourhoods of Marseille. Since the beginning of this year, fourteen persons have been killed in the city during such settling of accounts, and nineteen in the entire Marseille region.

‘The gendarmerie may be present in certain zones, and they are. And it is the job of the police — who, by the way, need to be reinforced at Marseille — to do what is necessary to eradicate this sort of violence, crime and trafficking,’ declared François Hollande during a press conference with the head of the Spanish government, Mariano Rajoy. The French government has announced a plan to boost policing in 15 of the most crime-ridden parts of France in an effort to reassert state control over the country’s so-called “no-go” zones: Muslim-dominated neighborhoods that are largely off limits to non-Muslims.

These crime-infested districts, which the French Interior Ministry has officially designated “Priority Security Zones” (zones de sécurité prioritaires, or ZSP), include heavily Muslim parts of Paris, Marseilles, Strasbourg, Lille and Amiens, where Muslim youths recently went on a two-day arson rampage that caused extensive property damage and injured more than a dozen police officers.

This is really good. Special thanks to Michael Laudahn for his work on this, as it was quite difficult to translate properly and took a great deal of time and effort.

My concern is that she and those magnificent people like her, will manage to be used by the Muslim Brotherhood and the ‘Arab Spring’ will install a Salafist government in Morocco as it has been in Iran, Egypt, Tunisia, and soon Syria and Yemen.

French police shot in urban violence

The Australian:

  • August 25, 2012 11:20PM

FRANCE has suffered a fresh outbreak of urban unrest, with three police officers wounded in an attack by a crowd firing shotguns and lobbing petrol bombs.

Two of the officers were wounded by shotgun pellets and the third by a firework used as a rocket in the incident that began late on Friday in the Grigny suburb of Paris, police said.

The unrest began after a police unit broke up a fight between around 20 people. The officers were set upon as they returned to their vehicles by a crowd, some of whom fired shotguns and threw petrol bombs.

Riot police were rushed to the area and used tear gas to disperse the crowd.
