Sharia: a law unto itself?

From The Telegraph:

Critics claim that the spread of Sharia law is creating a parallel legal system that opposes equal rights. We get a rare glimpse of an Islamic court at work .

After being beaten repeatedly by her husband – who had also threatened to kill her – Jameela turned to her local Sharia council in a desperate bid for a way out of her marriage. Today she discovers the verdict. Playing nervously with her hands, the young mother-of-three listens as the panel of judges discuss whether they should grant her a divorce.

The council meets once a month at the Birmingham Central Mosque. Many of the cases relate to divorce and involve the husbands and wives entering the room separately to make their appeals.

In an airless room in the bowels of the mosque, Jameela is asked to explain why she wants a divorce. She replies that her husband spends most of his time with his second wife – Islamic law allows men to have up to four wives – but complains he is abusive whenever he returns to her home.

Across the desk, Dr Mohammed Naseem, chair of the mosque’s Sharia council, sits alongside Talha Bokhari, a white-robed imam, and Amra Bone, the only woman sitting on an Islamic court in this country.

While a husband is not required to go through official channels to gain a divorce – being able to achieve this merely by uttering the word “talaq” – Islamic law requires that the wife must persuade the judges to grant her a dissolution.

Although the judges appear sympathetic, they are concerned about the rights of the father, as Islamic law says he is still responsible for his children’s education. “For the sake of the children, you must keep up the façade of cordial relations,” says Dr Naseem. “The worst thing that can happen to a child is to see the father and mother quarrelling.” Continue Reading →

MEHMET KILLS IN BERLIN

Possible honor killing?

It reminds me of Kosovar Ibrahim Shkupolli, who murdered five in Helsinki a few years ago, he has the same blank stare. KGS

[…]

Police say they are investigating the circumstances of the shooting, while media reports suggested it may have been a family matter.

The shooting was particularly shocking as it happened in a busy district of the city in broad daylight and seemed to be carried out with precision. Witnesses described it as an outright execution.

David Yerushalmi on why sharia law must not be considered in US courts

I had the privilege of hearing David speak at a conference in D.C. in 2009. He was captivating. Not because he was charismatic, he isn’t especially. Because the sheer force of his lucidity forced people to pay attention, and when he spoke, most other points of view dwindled into triviality. The US has been a nation where the force of reason has the better part of determining the political and legal landscape while populism and fashion maintain the front lines of mass media. I certainly hope it stays that way. And I hope to get to hear Mr. Yerushalmi speak again.

ADL Stand Strong In Sydney.

Australian Defence League and friends standing tall and strong against sharia.

For a variety of reasons, I was unable to attend the ADL rally in Sydney’s Martin Place yesterday. One of those reasons was the incarceration of Martin Brennan, the leader who organised this protest against sharia in Australia.

America’s sharia compliant forces

From The National Review

Our Sharia-Compliant Afghan War

Our policy in Afghanistan is part tragedy, part farce.

In a better time, when the burdens of war were shared by an engaged nation and not shouldered exclusively by military families making up less than 1 percent of the population, the high farce that is the Afghanistan mission would have been obvious before President Obama uttered one word on Wednesday night. All you’d need to know is the story that came to light the day before.

Turns out that the U.S. government has embraced a core tenet of sharia — that archaic corpus of Islamic law that Mitt Romney recently assured us would never gain traction in America. Patrick Poole reported at Pajamas Media on Tuesday that the secretary of the army has just granted “conscientious objector” status to Pfc. Nasser Abdo, a Muslim American soldier who refused to deploy to Afghanistan. Heeding the admonitions of CAIR and other Muslim Brotherhood operatives, the Pentagon accepts the claim that sharia forbids Muslims from assisting infidels in a war against Muslim forces in an Islamic land.

Probe into secretive Sharia law courts scrapped as Muslim leaders close ranks

Strict: Posters east London warn passers-by that they are entering a zone where Islamic rules are 'enforced'Strict: Posters east London warn passers-by that they are entering a zone where Islamic rules are ‘enforced’

Ministers have abandoned an inquiry into the rise of secretive Sharia councils that deal in Islamic justice – because the Muslim courts refused to help.

The failure of the Ministry of Justice probe has generated new fears among politicians and pressure groups about the increasing influence of Sharia courts.

They are worried the courts’ decisions may run against the law of the land, particularly in divorce settlements for women.

The scrapping of the inquiry comes in a week when Islamic extremists have launched a campaign to declare ‘Sharia-controlled zones’ across Britain.

Hate preacher Anjem Choudary has claimed responsibility for the scheme, which has so far seen posters put on lampposts in several London boroughs declaring that within the ‘zones’ there should be ‘no gambling’, ‘no music or concerts’, ‘no porn or prostitution’, ‘no drugs or smoking’ and ‘no alcohol’. Strict: The posters warn passers-by that they are entering a zone where Islamic rules, such as 'no alcohol', are 'enforced'Strict: The posters warn passers-by that they are entering a zone where Islamic rules, such as ‘no alcohol’, are ‘enforced’

Islamic extremists have launched a poster campaign across the UK proclaiming areas where Sharia law enforcement zones have been set up.

Communities have been bombarded with the posters, which read: ‘You are entering a Sharia-controlled zone – Islamic rules enforced.’

The bright yellow messages daubed on bus stops and street lamps have already been seen across certain boroughs in London and order that in the ‘zone’ there should be ‘no gambling’, ‘no music or concerts’, ‘no porn or prostitution’, ‘no drugs or smoking’ and ‘no alcohol’.

Hate preacher Anjem Choudary has claimed responsibility for the scheme, saying he plans to flood specific Muslim and non-Muslim communities around the UK and ‘put the seeds down for an Islamic Emirate in the long term’. Continue Reading →

David Littman: Woman’s rights in the Islamic world

• UNHRC: “Womens’ rights problems? Not so loud, please!”

From Europe News

United Nations Human Rights Council 25 July 2011
By David G. Littman, June 6th & 10th 2011

In this speech in the UN Human Rights Council, David G. Littman points out discrimination against women directly and documentably sanctioned by Islamic law. President Phuangketkeow responds by requesting more ‘sensitivity’ in matters where religion is involved, womens’ rights has distinctly lower priority than showing ‘understanding’ for religion. The Korandle. redux in HD

Since youtube took my channel down, I have about a thousand videos that were taken off line. Many were downloaded by other like minded people and reposted to their own YT channels, but many were lost altogether, some early ones I didn’t even have backups for.

So I decided to remake this one as I put a fair bit of work into it initially and it appeals to me at a few levels. For what it’s worth, I will stop making videos which profane Islamic ‘sacred’ materials as soon as Islam grants the respect to everyone else they demand for themselves, and when they stop demanding that other people hold their fetish objects as sacred on pain of whatever they can think of at the time. Usually death.

Protests planned at TDSB and Valley Park Middle School

From The Toronto Sun

Religious groups plan to protest in-school prayer sessions.

BY  , TORONTO SUN

FIRST POSTED:

TORONTO – Security guards were planning to keep a close eye as Toronto-area Hindus and followers of other faiths gather for a press conference Monday afternoon to protest against Muslims students being allowed to pray in a North York public school.

Members of the Canadian Hindu Advocacy, Jewish Defence League, Christian Heritage and from two other Christian ministries are scheduling a protest of the controversial prayer sessions on July 25 outside the Yonge St. headquarters of the Toronto District School Board.

The groups gathered at the Toronto Zionist Centre, on Marlee Ave., to demand an end to the Friday lunchtime prayer sessions in the cafeteria at Valley Park Middle School, on Overlea Blvd.

They also plan to picket the school in the fall. Continue Reading →

Mark Steyn: HOW UNCLEAN WAS MY VALLEY

Here is the first part of Mark Steyn’s article on the Toronto publicly funded, Islamicly correct, Mosqueteria at Valley Park Middle school.. As usual, Mr. Steyn is insightful, witty, and makes important points that deserve to be factored in on any actual policies on these issues.

Steyn on Culture Wednesday, 13 July 2011

Take a look at this photograph. It appeared in The Toronto Star’s education section on Saturday:

Image

It’s the scene every Friday at the cafeteria of Valley Park Middle School in Toronto. That’s not a private academy, it’s a public school funded by taxpayers. And yet, oddly enough, what’s going on is a prayer service – oh, relax, it’s not Anglican or anything improper like that; it’s Muslim Friday prayers, and the Toronto District School Board says don’t worry, it’s just for convenience: They put the cafeteria at the local imams’ disposal because otherwise the kids would have to troop off to the local mosque and then they’d be late for Lesbian History class or whatever subject is scheduled for Friday afternoon.

The picture is taken from the back of the cafeteria. In the distance are the boys. They’re male, so they get to sit up front at prayers. Behind them are the girls. They’re female, so they have to sit behind the boys because they’re second-class citizens – not in the whole of Canada, not formally, not yet, but in the cafeteria of a middle school run by the Toronto District School Board they most certainly are.

And the third row? The ones with their backs to us in the foreground of the picture? Well, let the Star’s caption writer explain:

At Valley Park Middle School, Muslim students participate in the Friday prayer service. Menstruating girls, at the very back, do not take part.

Oh. As Kathy Shaidle says:

Yep, that’s part of the caption of the Toronto Star photo.

Yes, the country is Canada and the year is 2011.

Just so. Not some exotic photojournalism essay from an upcountry village in Krappistan. But a typical Friday at a middle school in the largest city in Canada. I forget which brand of tampon used to advertise itself with the pitch “Now with new [whatever] you can go horse-riding, water-ski-ing, ballet dancing, whatever you want to do”, but perhaps they can just add the tag: “But not participate in Friday prayers at an Ontario public school.”

Some Canadians will look at this picture and react as Miss Shaidle did, or Tasha Kheiriddin in The National Post:

Is this the Middle Ages? Have I stumbled into a time warp, where “unclean” women must be prevented from “defiling” other persons? It’s bad enough that the girls at Valley Park have to enter the cafeteria from the back, while the boys enter from the front, but does the entire school have the right to know they are menstruating?

But a lot of Canadians will glance at the picture and think, “Aw, diversity, ain’t it a beautiful thing?” – no different from the Sikh Mountie in Prince William’s escort. And even if they read the caption and get to the bit about a Toronto public school separating menstruating girls from the rest of the student body and feel their multiculti pieties wobbling just a bit, they can no longer quite articulate on what basis they’re supposed to object to it. Indeed, thanks to the likes of Ontario “Human Rights” Commission chief commissar Barbara Hall, the very words in which they might object to it have been all but criminalized.

It’s OK to Kill Gays Once Sharia Implemented Says Local Muslim Crazy Person Jawed Anwar

Once again, from Blazing Cat Fur. The people that broke the story on the Toronto Mosqueteria which has caught fire in the MSM. At last.

Our good friend Jawed Anwar of  “TheMuslim.ca” never fails to surprise. Here’s his latest contribution to our multicultural mosaic of diversity. Once Sharia is implemented offing them Gays will be A OK!

Journey of Faith Conference: Zakir Naik to Bilal Philips

“Here Mr. Bilal Philips is suggesting a law for the future Islamic governments who will decide to implement Islamic law in their countries. Although, there is no clear-cut verse in Qur’an that categorically suggests killing of homosexuals, sayings of Prophet Muhammad suggests three types of sentences, and among that one is death. Bilal Philips is suggesting, based on his opinion on the Qur’anic/Prophetic principles of society. He is not advising the Islamic judiciary to kill any gay person they found, but what he is “suggesting” is judicial punishment of death sentence for those who confess or are seen “performing homosexual acts” by “four reliable witnesses without any doubt.”

HARDCORE Islamists have vowed to ban booze and mixing between the sexes in new Sharia law enforcement zones across the UK.

The move will see specific areas flooded with thousands of stickers saying “no gambling”, “no music or concerts”, “no porn or prostitution” and “no drugs or smoking”.

The posters declare: “You are entering a Sharia controlled zone – Islamic rules enforced.”

The radicals will kick off their controlled zones in the London borough of Waltham Forest later this month.

They also claim their hardline rules will be policed by thousands of “Sharia cops” on the streets. Continue Reading →
