Five men arrested in Luton on terrorism charges

Five men have been arrested on suspicion of the commission, preparation or instigation of acts of terrorism, Scotland Yard said.

Anti-terror police swooped on a series of different addresses before dawn as part of a ‘pre-planned, intelligence-led’ operation.

The men, aged 21, 23, 24, 25 and 30, were all arrested at separate homes in Luton this morning and have been taken to a central London police station for questioning.

Searches under the Terrorism Act 2000 are taking place at all five of the addresses and inquiries are ongoing, Scotland Yard said.

A spokesman for the Metropolitan Police counter-terrorism command said: ‘Officers from the counter-terrorism command have today, Tuesday April 24, arrested five men on suspicion of the commission, preparation or instigation of acts of terrorism.

 

‘All five were arrested at separate residential addresses in Luton. They have been taken to a central London police station where they remain in custody.

‘The arrests were a part of a pre-planned, intelligence-led operation.

An Iraqi Muslim cleric suspected of being involved with Al Qaeda and radicalising young Britons has used the Human Rights Act to continue to live in the UK – despite Government efforts to deport him.

Taha Muhammad is regarded as one of Britain’s most dangerous security threats. He was even banned from studying AS-level chemistry because of fears he would use the knowledge to commit terrorist acts.

The decision to let him stay is another setback for Home Secretary Theresa May, already under pressure after attempts to deport Abu Qatada to Jordan descended into chaos.

The Government is so concerned about Muhammad, 35, that for several years he was placed under round-the-clock surveillance, given a curfew and banned from preaching.

But Muhammad says he cannot be deported to Iraq because he could be detained and tortured there.

He argues sending him back would be a breach of Article 3 of the European Convention on Human Rights.

Al-Shabaab, the Somali based group linked to the terror network, said there would be “disaster” for the British public if Qatada is sent back to Jordan.

Last week al Qaeda itself warned it would “open the gates of evil” if the Government continues with the deportation.

The warning came as it emerged Theresa May could learn next month whether the Home Office blundered over the appeal deadline for Qatada.

A panel of European judges is expected to sit in May to decide whether the cleric’s application was in time – and whether he has a case for an appeal, sources said.

Liberal Democrats said the deadline fiasco, which has allowed Qatada to further delay his deportation, had been an “Olympic-standard screw up”

And Labour piled the pressure on the Home Secretary to explain what assurances were sought from Strasbourg that the Home Office was working to the correct time frame.

Three arrested in Heathrow Airport police terror swoop

Three men from Birmingham have been arrested by counter-terrorism police after arriving on a flight from Oman.

They were detained at Heathrow Airport on suspicion of possessing articles and documents with intent to use them for terrorist purposes overseas.

Officers held two men, aged 33 and 39, from Small Heath and another, aged 33, from Alum Rock, all in Birmingham.

The pre-planned and intelligence-led arrests were made by officers from the West Midlands counter-terrorism unit.

West Midlands Police said the arrests were not in response to any immediate threat to public safety.

The men were held under Section 57 of the Terrorism Act 2000.

Twenty-year-old terrorism suspect Mohamed Mohamud appeared in Portland’s federal courthouse Tuesday as his lawyers and government prosecutors argued over a laundry list of evidence sought by his defense team.

Mohamud, wearing standard blue jail scrubs and close-cropped hair, stared at the defense table throughout the roughly two-hour proceeding. It was hard to tell whether he was reading a court document or just listening carefully as lawyers argued before U.S. District Judge Garr M. King.

His appearance marked the first time he had appeared in court since shortly after his Nov. 26, 2010, arrest by the FBI.

The government accuses him of attempting to ignite a weapon of mass destruction next to Portland’s holiday tree lighting ceremony at Pioneer Courthouse Square. But the bomb, as it happens, was a harmless fake presented to Mohamud by undercover FBI operatives posing as terrorists.

Tuesday’s courtroom debate centered evidence that the defense team hopes to obtain about federal agents, informants and operatives that they accuse of entrapping Mohamud in a crime he wouldn’t have committed without them.

His trial is set for Oct. 2.

A convicted terrorist who plotted to blow up a jet has been secretly walking the streets of Britain for two years after being freed early in return for becoming an Al Qaeda supergrass.

Saajid Muhammad Badat, 33, was jailed for 13 years for planning to destroy a transatlantic plane with a shoe-bomb in a co-ordinated attack in December 2001 with fellow Briton Richard Reid.

But yesterday it emerged that the former grammar school boy had been freed two years early after striking a secret deal to testify against a suspected terrorist in America.

In an extraordinary secret court hearing, the Islamic fundamentalist was released following a private discussion between a judge, his solicitor and prosecutors.

Badat, who was jailed in 2005, would only have been eligible for release in July this year, with a licence period extending to August 2013, but his sentence was cut in the deal agreed by the judge.

Yesterday Scotland Yard and the Crown Prosecution Service released a joint statement saying this case – the first of its kind – was a great example of how the authorities were fighting terror.

I wonder if people there are starting to question the ‘religion of peace’ meme at this time. In a CBC ‘pseudo public’ forum on the issue of Islam in Canada last year, (I say Pseudo because they carefully screened who they let in and who they let talk to favour the pro_islam flavor of the meeting) one of the Muslims guests, I believe it was Aisha Sherazi, who said something like, ‘Every time i Listen to the news and there is some horror I stop to think, ‘Oh my god I hope it wasn’t a Muslim’ and she actually was trying to accuse the Canadian media of bias because they actually do report it when Muslims commit acts of horror in the name of Islam, for Islamic reasons etc.

It has really stuck with me, that little rhetorical trick of hers.

I have a suggestion.

Have Muslims stop:

1. planning and carrying out acts of terror to implement Islam and sharia law everywhere.

2. Murdering their own family members when one of them, so far always or nearly always a woman, decides to act in her own interest instead of the interests of Islam etc.

3. Stop infiltrating every institution in the free world for the purpose of undermining it, destroying it and replacing it with the paradisiacal versions of government we see in shit-holes like Somalia, Egypt, Dagestan and England. Just to name a few of course.

Then you won’t have to worry when you watch the news. You can safely enjoy a blended society where all can enjoy the classical liberalism so many millions fought and died for to give us all here in Canada.

Arguments vs. Clubs

As everyone knows by now, Circus Breivik opened today in Oslo.

The farcical antics began long before today, however — we’ve been through a prodromal phase of several weeks during which the leftist mainstream media outlets (yes, I know that’s redundant) prepared and published their hit pieces on every writer, publication, and website they consider “xenophobic”, “racist”, or “extreme right-wing”.

The Law of LibelVarious sites in Norway and the rest of Europe have been rehashing all their material from last July and August. Photos of Fjordman and Robert Spencer have been dusted off and re-digitized. Anyone foolish enough to reply to press enquiries has been quoted out of context and had his words used against him.

In other words, ho-hum. Business as usual.

Gates of Vienna has come in for its share of slime, especially in the Norwegian press. We’re used to all that, and generally ignore it. However, one particular hit piece was so egregious that it required a response.

I refer to an article entitled “Far-right anti-Muslim network on rise globally as Breivik trial opens” that was written by Mark Townsend and published in The Guardian last Saturday, April 14, 2012. The penultimate paragraph of Mr. Townsend’s screed included this sentence:

This is a lot more bold and overt than I would have expected for this early stage of the jihad against the US and her values. As shocking as this is, it is the kind of misstep that may actually help wake enough of us up to begin to fight back.
