WACO, TX — A federal jury on Thursday convicted a Muslim soldier on six charges in connection with a failed plot to blow up a Texas restaurant full of Fort Hood troops, his religious mission to get “justice” for the people of Iraq and Afghanistan.

Jurors in U.S. District Court in Waco deliberated a little more than an hour before finding Pfc. Naser Jason Abdo guilty of attempting to use a weapon of mass destruction, attempted murder of U.S. officers or employees, and four counts of possessing a weapon in furtherance of a federal crime of violence — two involving a gun and two involving a destructive device.

Abdo, 22, did not stand with his attorneys when jurors and the judge entered the room, and showed no emotion when each of the six “guilty” verdicts was read by the court clerk.

He faces up to life in prison. His sentencing was set for July.

When authorities arrested Abdo at a Killeen motel last July after he had gone AWOL from Fort Campbell, Ky., they found numerous bomb-making components, a loaded gun, 143 rounds of ammunition, a stun gun and other items in his backpack and room.

In a recorded police interview, Abdo said he was planning to pull off an attack in the Fort Hood area “because I don’t appreciate what my unit did in Afghanistan.”

During trial, a recorded jail conversation was played for jurors in which Abdo told his mother his religion inspired his actions and he was seeking “justice” for the people of Iraq and Afghanistan.

“Their suffering is my suffering,” he said.

LIVELEAK: An unbelievable leaked video of an auction for a suicide bomber against Syria. This takes place in a hotel conference room in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. The atmosphere is festive, and the audience has children in it. But the merchandise auctioned is human flesh and blood!

The video shows the father, Abu-Salah, attending the auction and offering his son Khaled as a sacrifice (2nd son to “sacrifice” his life) .The father receives 1.5 million Riyals ($400,000) as future compensation for his son’s demise in Syria. At one point in the video, the father is elated at the high bids.

[UPDATE] I was concerned, as this is so awful, that this might not be as advertised. Translating Jihad was kind enough to look it over and yes, the titles are an accurate reflection of what is being said here.

Italian army on call to deal with escalating violence

Italy’s prime minister has not ruled out bringing in the army to deal with the increasing levels of violence across the country.

Prime Minister Mario Monti raised alert levels Sunday at sensitive sites across the country after a rebel group shot and wounded the head of the state-controlled nuclear energy company, Ansaldo Nucleare.

Commenting on the plan, Interior Minister Anna Maria Cancellieri told local journalists “the risk of an escalation of anarchist terrorism is real.”

“The army could be used to guard buildings which could be the target of violent protest,” she added.

That would include offices of the tax collection agency Equita and industrial corporation Finmeccanica, owner of Ansaldo Nucleare.

“The danger of an escalation exists,” she said. “It’s a situation which demands drastic action.”

The Federazione Anarchica Informale (Informed Anarchist Federation), with links to Greek extremist groups, claimed responsibility for the attack on the nuclear company’s head in Genoa on Friday.

Prosecutor Michele Di Lecce said the FAI, which has threatened eight further reprisals to demand the release of anarchists jailed in Greece, “appeared reliable.”

Bomb Operation After Two Terror Arrests

A bomb disposal team has performed a controlled explosion at a garage block in Cheltenham after two men were arrested on terror charges.

Residents of more than 100 homes remain evacuated after police set up a cordon following the arrests.

The alarm was first raised yesterday following raids at two properties in the town.

Officers initially searched a home in Brooklyn Road, Hester’s Way, where they arrested a 52-year-old local man under the Explosive Substances Act.

Police then found items “requiring further investigation” in a garage in Buttermere Close, in the Up Hatherley area of the town.

A 31-year-old man was subsequently arrested, Gloucestershire Constabulary confirmed.

“At the moment we unfortunately are not able to say when we will be able to lift the cordon (in Buttermere Close),” Assistant Chief Constable Richard Berry told Sky News.

The garage is located less than one mile from the Government electronic eavesdropping centre GCHQ.

Belarus Detains Egyptian ‘Extremists’ En Route To EU

Police in the Belarusian capital, Minsk, say they have arrested a group of suspected extremists from Egypt who were allegedly trying to travel to Western Europe.

According to officials, the five Egyptian citizens entered Belarus illegally.

Officials said investigators had determined that the Egyptians intended to travel to Western Europe to hold “actions against European officials and leaders in response to European countries’ politics toward Egypt.”

No further details about the alleged plot were given.

Police did not specify either the date of the group’s arrival in Belarus or the day of their arrest.

3 arrested in Denmark over suspected terror plot

(CNN) — Three people were arrested in Copenhagen Friday on suspicion of planning a terror attack, Denmark’s Security and Intelligence Service said.

The three are a 22-year-old Jordanian citizen, a 23-year-old Turkish citizen who lives in Denmark, and a 21-year-old Danish citizen who lives in Egypt, a statement from the intelligence service said.

An Al Qaeda supergrass secretly released from a British prison is having everything from his rent to his mobile phone costs paid by the taxpayer, he told a New York court.

The Mail revealed last week how ex-grammar school boy Saajid Badat was freed two years early in return for giving evidence in terror cases.

Badat had been jailed for 13 years for planning to destroy a transatlantic plane with a shoe-bomb in a co-ordinated attack in December 2001 with fellow Briton Richard Reid.
