Harrow woman (retired doctor) convicted of keeping Tanzanian as slave

A former hospital director has been ordered to pay £25,000 to an African woman she kept as a slave in London.

Mwanahamisi Mruke, 47, was flown from Tanzania in 2006 and made to work 18-hour days for Saeeda Khan, 68, at her home in Harrow, north-west London.

Khan was convicted of trafficking a person into the UK for exploitation.

The judge at Southwark Crown Court, who also gave her a suspended nine-month prison term, said she was guilty of “the most appalling greed”.

Judge Geoffrey Rivlin QC said Khan had told “a pack of lies” during her trial by saying her victim, whom he described as “naive and illiterate”, was treated as part of the family.

Sentencing her he said: “Your own behaviour was callous and greedy.

“You could easily have afforded to pay her a reasonable sum by way of wages. You chose to give her virtually nothing.”

He told Khan that her age, the fact she has two adult disabled children and was in poor health had prevented him from passing an immediate custodial sentence. (Video below the fold)

Slavery in Mauritania

It stuns me that pretty much everyone I know vilifies the nations that centuries ago, fought wars to end slavery both at home and abroad and gets visibly high off of their own sanctimony doing so, while being pretty much oblivious to the fact that it is still common in the Islamic world today. Obviously the issue is not one of the evils of slavery.

Jail for ‘sexual predators’ who led Asian gang that abused girls as young as 12 in ‘reign of terror’

Two ‘sexual predators’ who subjected a series of vulnerable girls to rapes and sexual assaults described by a judge as a ‘reign of terror’ were given indefinite prison sentences today.

Abid Mohammed Saddique, 27, was jailed for a minimum of 11 years at Nottingham Crown Court.

Mohammed Romaan Liaqat, 28, was told he must serve at least eight years before he is considered for release.

The men were sentenced as dozens of police lined the street outside the court in front of a protest by the right-wing EDL.

More officers were stationed in the court building.

It comes after a senior detective accused police and social services of allowing hundreds of young white girls to be exploited by Asian men over fears of  being branded racist if they spoke out. Continue Reading →

(August 25, Hong Kong, Sri Lanka Guardian) Mrs. L.T. Ariyawathi (49), a mother of three has returned from Saudi Arabia after less than five months of employment. Within a short time of her return she was hospitalized for an operation to remove 24 nails from her foot and a needle implanted by her employer. Doctors who x-rayed her at Kamburupitiya hospital have identified these items and are preparing to operate in order to remove them.

Saudi women protest rape of children in KSA

This is the first video I have seen by Saudis protesting the lack of person status women have in the KSA. Very encouraging, even if they kep the protest very tame and focus on child ‘marriage.’
