Imprisoned in the UK for criticising Islam
The national UK media has had almost nothing to say about the astonishing case of Darren Conway who on March 6 was sentenced to a year in prison for posting ‘anti-Islamic materials’ in the window of his ground-floor apartment in Gainsborough, Lincolnshire. There is a very good piece by Bruce Bawer about the case in which he wonders why no information about the actual posters has been provided in any news reports.

A Moroccan teenager killed herself after a judge forced her to marry her rapist.
The 16-year-old girl, named as Amina Filali, ate rat poison after a Tangier court which was supposed to be punishing her 26-year-old attacker decided that they should instead be wed.
This is because Moroccan laws exempt a rapist from punishment if he agrees to marry his victim.

Traumatised by the rape and the forced marriage, Moroccan newspaper al-Massae said she committed suicide at her husband’s house.
Hafida Elbaz, director of the Women’s Solidarity Association, criticised the law and said rapists often believed they could avoid punishment by marrying their victims.

More than 90 Iraqi students have been stoned to death for their Emo haircuts by religious extremists in Baghdad in the past month after Iraq’s interior ministry dubbed it ‘devil worshipping’.
Iraq’s Moral Police released a statement on the interior ministry’s website condemning the ’emo phenomenon’ among Iraqi youth, declaring its intent to ‘eliminate’ the trend.
The move is part of a wider clampdown on young people taking on what government officials call ‘Western appearances’ in Iraq.
Iraqi activists said this unnamed teenager was brutally killed by religious police for having an ’emo’ hairstyle
‘The Emo phenomenon or devil worshipping is being followed by the Moral Police who have the approval to eliminate [the phenomenon] as soon as possible since it’s detrimentally affecting the society and becoming a danger,’ the statement read.
‘They wear strange, tight clothes that have pictures on them such as skulls and use stationary that are shaped as skulls. They also wear rings on their noses and tongues, and do other strange activities,’.
Since the statement was published religious extremists have been harassing and killing teenagers with ‘strange’ or ’emo’ appearances.
A group of armed men dressed in civilian clothing led dozens of teenagers to secluded areas a few days ago, stoned them to death, and then disposed their bodies in garbage dumpsters across the capital, according to activists, activists told the Cairo-based al-Akhbar website.

Egyptian Court Sentences Priest to Six Months for Excess Church Height
Read this carefully. This is sharia law. It is utterly and completely incompatible with any rational notion of justice. Only of Islamic supremacy in every imaginable way. It will be applied in Western nations exactly as it is here in Egypt at the first possible opportunity to do so.

(AINA) — A court in Edfu has sentenced Reverend Makarios Bolous, pastor of St. George’s Church in the village of Elmarinab, Edfu, in the Aswan province, to six months prison and a fine of 300 pounds for violations in the height of the church building. The court also ordered the removal of the excess height.
The church had received a license from the Governor of Aswan and was still under construction, but it was torched by a Muslim mob on September 30, 2011 (AINA 10-1-2011). Construction workers had started removing the excess height before the torching of the church.
“Since then no work has been done to it. We are not allowed to pray there or come near it by order of the authorities,” said father Salib el-Deek of the Coptic diocese of Edfu. He said that they had proof that the church applied several times to the police to remove the excess, which it had started before the torching of the church, but were not granted permission. The police records were refused to be admitted as evidence by the court.

KABUL—Afghanistan’s president on Tuesday endorsed a “code of conduct” issued by an influential council of clerics that activists say represents a giant step backward for women’s rights in the country.
President Hamid Karzai’s Tuesday remarks backing the Ulema Council’s document, which allows husbands to beat wives under certain circumstances and encourages segregation of the sexes, is seen as part of his outreach to insurgents like the Taliban.
Both the U.S. and Karzai hope that the Taliban can be brought into negotiations to end the country’s decade-long war. But activists say they’re worried that gains made by women since 2001 may be lost in the process.
When the Taliban ruled Afghanistan prior to the 2001 U.S. invasion, girls were banned from going to school and women had to wear burqas that covered them from head to toe. Women were not allowed to leave their homes without a male relative as an escort.
The “code of conduct” issued Friday by the Ulema Council as part of a longer statement on national political issues is cast as a set of guidelines that religious women should obey voluntarily, but activists are concerned it will herald a reversal of the trend in Afghanistan since 2001 to pass laws aimed at expanding women’s rights.
Among the rules: Women should not travel without a male guardian and women should not mingle with strange men in places like schools, markets or offices. Beating one’s wife is prohibited only if there is no “Shariah-compliant reason,” it said, referring to the principles of Islamic law.
Asked about the code of conduct at a press conference in the capital, Karzai said it was in line with Islamic law and was written in consultation with Afghan women’s groups. He did not name the groups that were consulted.

Judge orders DPO, IG Lahore to pursue case; says caricatures of prophet (pbuh) “deliberate and malicious act”.
FAISALABAD: A case for the arrest of Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg and Cultural Editor of Danish Newspaper Fleming Rose, for allowing ‘blasphemous’ caricatures of Prophet Mohammad (pbuh), was registered at the Kotwali Police Station in Jhang.
The case, FIR no 134/12, was registered after Advocate Muhammad Zahid Saeed, stirred by websites allegedly demeaning the Prophet (pbuh), filed a petition before the District Session Judge seeking a ban on websites including Facebook, YouTube, Google and others.
This is not the first time that a ban has been suggested or imposed on Facebook, YouTube and other sites in Pakistan. In September 2011, the Lahore High Court ordered the ministry of information technology to block access to all websites spreading religious hatred. The judge had, however, made it clear that no search engine, including Google, would be blocked.
Despite this assurance, a case was registered under Section 295-A of the Pakistan Penal Code (PCC) which deals with blasphemy.
Maintaining that the sentiments of the whole Muslim community were hurt, Saeed filed the petition under Section 22-A, 22-B of the Criminal Procedure of Code (CPC).
In his petition, Saeed said that on visiting some websites while on the internet, he and his companion found caricatures of the Prophet (pbuh) published which, he alleged, were “trying to create a war between Muslims and non-Muslims”.
He added that the caricatures were a form of “international terrorism and evil profession”.

BAGRAM, Afghanistan (Reuters) – About 2,000 Afghans protested outside the main U.S. military base in Afghanistan on Tuesday over a report that foreign soldiers improperly disposed of copies of the Koran.
U.S. helicopters fired flares to try to break up as many as 2,000 demonstrators who massed outside several gates to the base, chanting anti-foreigner slogans and throwing stones.
Roshna Khalid, the provincial governor’s spokeswoman, said copies of the Muslim holy book had been burnt inside Bagram airbase, an hour’s drive north of the capital Kabul, citing accounts from local laborers.
“The laborers normally take the garbage outside and they found the remains of Korans,” Khalid said.
NATO’s top general in Afghanistan attempted to contain fury over the incident, which could be a public relations disaster for the U.S. military as it tries to pacify the country ahead of the withdrawal of foreign combat troops in 2014.
Saudi national faces prospect of execution for tweeting

“Insulting the Prophet [Mohammed] is considered blasphemous in Islam,” notes OnIslam.net, “which is a crime punishable by execution in Saudi Arabia.” Hamza Kashgari, a 23-year-old Saudi blogger, now faces the prospect of execution for tweeting this message on Islam’s Prophet Mohammed’s birthday:
“I have loved things about you and I have hated things about you and there is a lot I don’t understand about you. I will not pray for you.”
Kashgari was en route to New Zealand when he was detained by Malaysian authorities at the request of Interpol because of the tweet. He was then deported to Saudi Arabia, where he was arrested for blasphemy.
Saudi clerics have declared the 23 year-old to be an apostate, and, as Charles Santiago, DAP’s MP for Klang, notes in Free Malaysia Today, “13,000 people have joined a Facebook page titled ‘The Saudi People Demand the Execution of Hamza Kashgari’.”

Muslim cleric Haitham al-Haddad or British-Palestinian extraction is part of a debate in Holland along with several other people I have yet to identify. I have excerpted a segment of that debate below along with a brief interview with him on his position on Jewish people but the whole debate can be seen here.
What I found immediately interesting is how in both clips he attempts to deny things everyone can clearly read that he had said from his own pen or reported from his own mouth. I wonder how much longer he, and so very many like him can continue to get away with this. If a person not wearing a nightgown were to say these things he would go to jail.

Just in case there is a solitary can-of-cahsews out there that thinks that Islam, as well as being ideologically supremacist and profoundly violently so, isn’t also a vehicle for Arab or racial supremacy, I thought I would post this fatwa. Below is part of it. You can click through for the rest if you want but you will get the idea. This of course makes it even more odd that a black, white or East Asian and perhaps even a South Asian of non-arab decent would ever convert to Islam. But then, Islam was never a way of life for thinking individuals.
