UPDATE: A source tells me more about the still-on-the-loose Sunil Tripathi:

Not sure if this is accurate or not, or even helpful (need to sleep and can’t verify), but… It seems that one of the bombers’ (assuming it is them) father is Akhil Tripathi – a very successful software engineer. He is from Kanpur. I am no expert on Kanpur, but it seems to be heavily Muslim.

NBC NEWS: The suspects approached the MIT officer and shot him in head, the sources said. The two then stole the MIT officer’s cruiser, robbed a nearby 7-11 and carjacked a Mercedes SUV, briefly kidnapping the driver, the sources said. At various points, the suspects threw explosives out the window of the moving car.

CNN reported that a second suspect was taken into custody in Watertown following the firefight with police. It showed video of one of the alleged suspects, stripped of his clothes, presumably as a safety precaution, being placed in the back of a police squad car. The Globe reported seeing one man being questioned by FBI agents in an ambulance.

Two explosions were heard near the finish line of the Boston Marathon on Monday, witnesses told NBC News.

Will Ritter, the spokesman for a Massachusetts Senate candidate, said that he heard what sounded like two explosions and saw smoke rising near the Boston Public Library. He said that he saw three fire engines and police running to the site.

Ritter said that people hit the ground.

Janet Wu, a reporter for NBC affiliate WHDH, told NBC News that she heard two loud explosions.

Boston police confirmed there was an incident but did not immediately give details. Police, fire and medical technicians were responding. New England Cable News reported that the emergency response came within seconds.

DEVELOPING: Multiple casualties are reported after at least two explosions were heard near the finish line of the Boston Marathon, according to the Boston Herald.Witnesses reportedly heard two booms that sounded like two claps of thunder near the finish line inside the Fairmount Copley Plaza Hotel.The explosions occurred just before 3 p.m. Video of the scene showed a number of emergency crews in the area tending to victims and blood on the ground near the finish line.”I saw two explosions. The first one was beyond the finish line. I heard a loud bang and I saw smoke rising,” Boston Herald reporter Chris Cassidy, who was running in the marathon, told the newspaper. “I kept running and I heard behind me a loud bang. It looked like it was in a trash can or something…There are people who have been hit with debris, people with bloody foreheads.”A photographer with Fox affiliate WFXT reported seeing a number of victims with lost limbs.

Competitors and race organizers were crying as they fled the chaos. Bloody spectators were being carried to the medical tent that had been set up to care for fatigued runners.

“There are a lot of people down,” said one man, whose bib No. 17528 identified him as Frank Deruyter of North Carolina. He was not injured, but marathon workers were carrying one woman, who did not appear to be a runner, to the medical area as blood gushed from her leg. A Boston police officer was wheeled from the course with a leg injury that was bleeding.

About three hours after the winners crossed the line, there was a loud explosion on the north side of Boylston Street, just before the photo bridge that marks the finish line. Another thunderous explosion could be heard a few seconds later.

Runner Laura McLean of Toronto said she heard two explosions outside the medical tent.

“There are people who are really, really bloody,” McLean said. “They were pulling them into the medical tent.”

Cherie Falgoust was waiting for her husband, who was running the race. “I was expecting my husband any minute,” she said. “I don’t know what this building is … it just blew. Just a big bomb, a loud boom, and then glass everywhere. Something hit my head. I don’t know what it was. I just ducked.”

MOSCOW: North Korea has asked Russia to consider the possibility of evacuating staff from its embassy in Pyongyang due to increasing tension on the Korean Peninsula, a spokesman for the Russian embassy said by phone from Pyongyang on Friday.

The spokesman, Denis Samsonov, said that Russia was examining the request but was not planning to evacuate at this stage, and that there were no outward signs of tension in the North Korean capital.

In Oslo, a 28 year old Algerian recently was arrested, over an armed robbery attempt. It has transpired this man formerly has:

-shot and nearly killed an 18 years old man, being sentenced to five years in prison over this

-repeatedly been convicted over drugs charges and threats

-throwing rocks at the police during the 2009 Oslo riots over the Gaza war

-threatened to cut the throat of a police officer

-making this comment in court. “”I shall f*** the prosecutor and kill her because I’m innocent”

-impersonating a police officer during a home invasion, threatening to kill a property owner

So far, this man has not served major prison time in Norway. His lawyer has made this comment:

“It is a part of the picture that this attempted murder was controlled by events, being far from planned. There were no indications over him committing any new crimes”.

(Dagbladet): A 28-year-old man who in 2009 came close to killing a 18-year-old with five gunshots after an argument at Railway Square in Oslo, Saturday 2 February arrested after committing an unsuccessful armed robbery of a convenience store in Greenland in Oslo.

The 28-year-old was still waiting to being summoned to prison for the attempted murder verdict.

Shot five times

The appellate court proved last year that the 28-year-old must have thought that the shots would kill the victim, and stated that even random passersby in the city center could have been shot.

Having appealed a tingrettsdom in September 2011, the 28-year-old in the Court of Appeal 5th last September was sentenced to six and a half years in prison for attempted murder and threats, a verdict that was enforceable in the Supreme Court at the start of December.

Yet the man was still at large two months later, and had again acquired firearms.

We are often fed the idea that Indonesia is a ‘moderate’ Islamic nation. Events on the ground would suggest something very different. Again, we don’t hear a peep from the supposed high priests of religious tolerance at the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC). The OIC promoted UNHRC Resolution 16/18 that purports to confront threats to freedom of religion. It seems very clear that the OIC does not in fact favour religious freedom and Indonesia is an OIC member state. Perhaps to the OIC, religious freedom only means the freedom to expand the reach of sharia.

LONDON – A British politician who was jailed after sending a text message while driving on a motorway, which killed another motorist, has blamed his fate on a Jewish conspiracy.

Lord Nazir Ahmed, 55, who became one of the first Muslim peers in the UK after former Prime Minister Tony Blair appointed him in 1998, has said that his prison sentence was a result of pressure applied on the court by Jews “who own newspapers and television channels,” the Times said on Thursday.

He also claimed that the judge in the 2008 case was appointed to his position after he helped a “Jewish colleague” of Blair during an important case. According to Ahmed, Justice Wilkie was hand-picked to carry out the sentencing because no other judge was willing to handle his case.

He also alleged that Jewish-owned media organizations pressured the courts to charge him with a more serious offense.

Ahmed maintained that the plot to stemmed from Jewish disapproval of his support for the Palestinians in Gaza. The Times said he repeated his comments during a television interview in Pakistan, which was said to have been broadcast last April.

“My case became more critical because I went to Gaza to support Palestinians. My Jewish friends who own newspapers and TV channels opposed this,” he allegedly said in the interview.

I don’t evaluate the data, I just report it.

Vasarahammer informs that someone over at the Finnish chat forum, Hommaforum, someone has compiled the latest figure in the newly released rape statistics for Finland. The report says nine variants of the spelling of Mohamed were spotted, but I only counted eight. That said, they are featured in these statistics greater than their demographics.

Of the 172 convicted, foreigners / or with foreign background 60, or 35% (in 2011 the corresponding figures 121/48/40). Two had an address in Germany. One was convicted from Sweden, Denmark, Estonia and Russia.

16 people were convicted of aggravated rape, foreign / backgrounds 6 people, or 38% (in 2011 the corresponding figures 15.03.20).

99 people were convicted of rape with foreign / backgrounds 34 people, or 34% (2011 figures correspond to 69/31/45).

38 people were convicted of coercion into sexual intercourse, foreign / backgrounds 10 people, or 26% (in 2011 the corresponding figures 23.09.39).

Optulan researcher Lappi-Seppälä would probably think that the over-representation of these are just a coincidence, this time, too.

In comprising the list, I could not help noticing that nine of the convicted were named Muhammad, or some variant of it. In contrast, for example, Mikko, Heikki, Jussi, Tero and Antti appeared each, 3 times. Well, I guess, but Muhammad is such a common name in Finland. Or this one is but a coincidence.

BUDAPEST, Hungary (JTA) — The potholed streets leading to Tiszavasvari’s rusty train station offer no clue that this sleepy town of 12,000 in eastern Hungary is considered the “capital of Jobbik,” the country’s ultranationalist, anti-Jewish party whose name means “better.”

The first sign appears near the office of the mayor, Erik Fulop, the first of five Jobbik politicians elected to run a Hungarian municipality. Shortly after taking office in 2010, Fulop set up a twinning arrangement between Tiszavasvari and the Iranian city of Ardabil, and a sign in Hungarian and Farsi near the office celebrates those ties.

Observers say the announcement of the twinning arrangement was the first international event held in Hungary under Jobbik’s auspices and a mark of a growing partnership aimed at breaking through the isolation that both the party and the Iranian government are laboring under — Iran for its suspected nuclear weapons program and support for terrorism, Jobbik for its hyper-nationalism and anti-Semitism.

Tiszavasvari’s official website states that “the embargo on Iran is merely a way for world powers to monopolize trade with Iran,” and expresses hope that the town “may lead the way to reversing this process.” Jobbik’s leader, Gabor Vona, has hosted a number of Iranian delegations there since the start of the twinning arrangement.

“The Persian people and their leaders are considered pariahs in the eyes of the West, which serves Israeli interests,” said Marton Gyongyosi, Jobbik’s foreign policy chief, at a pro-Iran demonstration organized by the party in December at the U.S. Embassy in Budapest. “This is why we have solidarity with the peaceful nation of Iran and turn to her with an open heart.”

In a piece by Lori Lowenthal Marcus, about Dutch Muslims praising Adolf Hitler and their Holocaust of the Jews, Turkish observer, Ege Berk Korkut, is quoted saying that the daily dialogue in Turkish society concerning Jews, takes on an antisemitic and genocidal form. Korkut notes that it’s common nowadays to talk of the killing of Jews as one would of rats or the eliminating of weeds.

This brings me back to, yes again, the highly outrageous claim by the Turkish leader of the world’s largest Muslim organization (the OIC) Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, who recently doubled down in Stockholm on his previous statement spoken in 2008 in Helsinki, that a Muslim couldn’t be antisemitic.

Ladies and gentlemen, this is an outrageous statement that can’t be any longer allowed to go unchallenged.

Korkut told The Jewish Press that he regularly hears people praise Hitler. “Do not worry, Israel will be destroyed one day, and the day is near that all Jews will pay,” is also something he hears often. A gang of eight men were arrested in dawn raids today on suspicion of raping an under-age girl over a six-month period.

Officers raided nine addresses in the east London boroughs of Newham, Redbridge and Havering and one in Hertfordshire in a pre-planned operation at 5am.

Five 23-year-old men, two 24-year-olds and a 21-year-old, who are said to be known to each other, were taken into custody at an east London police station for questioning.

Police said the victim was a teenage girl under the age of 16.

The investigation was launched by detectives from the Metropolitan Police’s Sapphire Command over alleged offences between May and November last year.

Four illiterate Saudi women aged between 46 and 74 years were honoured this week for memorizing the Quran after spending more than six years at a specialised centre.

The women had spent several hours daily listening to female teachers reading verses from the Quran before succeeding in memorising “every word in the Holy Book,” the Saudi Arabic language daily Sabq said.

“They spent around 6.5 years at the centre. They have memorized all the holy Quran ,” it said, quoting the centre’s director Sheikh Ibrahim Al Barakati.

It said the women from the western town of Laith are aged 46, 52, 55 and 74 years and that they have never been to school.

The Quran with over 600 pages, has 114 chapters, known as Sura, comprising more than 6,000 verses.

Court suspends Egypt’s parliament election

CAIRO (AP) — An Egyptian administrative court on Wednesday ordered the suspension of parliamentary elections scheduled to begin next month, throwing the country’s politics deeper into confusion.

The verdict followed over a dozen complaints questioning the legality of the law organizing the elections.

Abdel-Meguid el-Muqanen, presiding judge of the administrative court, said that the law must be reviewed by the Supreme Constitutional Court to determine its conformity to the constitution. Meanwhile, he ordered the suspension and annulment of the presidential decree calling for elections.

Details of the ruling were not immediately available.

The government can appeal the administrative court ruling, but at the least the ruling may cause a delay in the vote. The multi-phase election is due to begin in April 22 and last for nearly two months. The period for candidates to apply was to begin on Saturday, but that likely cannot take place until the legalities are worked out, possibly pushing back the whole process.

SYRIAN REBELS CLAIM KIDNAP OF 21 UN PERSONNEL NEAR ISRAELI BORDER

This has to be viewed in light of other altercations with UN personnel, most recently two Finnish UN personnel were robbed at gunpoint and had their vehicle taken from them.

Syria rebels on the Golan Heights have captured a convoy of United Nations vehicles and kidnapped 21 Filipino UN employees, according to a video released by the rebels on Wednesday.

The kidnappers were negotiating with UN forces and demanding that the Syrian regime remove all its troops from the area adjoining the Syrian side of the border with Israel.

The video clip, aimed on Israeli TV, showed a number of gunmen standing alongside the UN vehicles, while their apparent leader announced his demands. Some of the United Nations employees can be seen inside the vehicles.

The kidnapping continues a sharp increase in the boldness of rebels along the border with Israel.
