It seems as though in Austria, the popular yodel is an insult to Muslims.
An Austrian court has recently fined a citizen for yodeling while mowing his lawn, according to a report in The Kronen Zeitung newspaper.
The citizen, 63-year-old Helmut G., was told by the court that his yodeling offended his next-door Muslim neighbors, who accused him of trying to mock and imitate the call of the Muezzin. Continue Reading →

Kosovo’s prime minister is the head of a “mafia-like” Albanian group responsible for smuggling weapons, drugs and human organs through eastern Europe, according to a Council of Europe inquiry report on organised crime.
Hashim Thaçi is identified as the boss of a network that began operating criminal rackets in the runup to the 1998-99 Kosovo war, and has held powerful sway over the country’s government since.
The report of the two-year inquiry, which cites FBI and other intelligence sources, has been obtained by the Guardian. It names Thaçi as having over the last decade exerted “violent control” over the heroin trade. Figures from Thaçi’s inner circle are also accused of taking captives across the border into Albania after the war, where a number of Serbs are said to have been murdered for their kidneys, which were sold on the black market.
Legal proceedings began in a Pristina district court today into a case of alleged organ trafficking discovered by police in 2008. That case – in which organs are said to have been taken from impoverished victims at a clinic known as Medicus – is said by the report to be linked to Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) organ harvesting in 2000. It comes at a crucial period for Kosovo, which on Sunday held its first elections since declaring independence from Serbia in 2008. Thaçi claimed victory in the election and has been seeking to form a coalition with opposition parties.
Dick Marty, the human rights investigator behind the inquiry, will present his report to European diplomats from all 47 member states at a meeting in Paris on Thursday. His report suggests Thaçi’s links with organised crime date back more than a decade, when those loyal to his Drenica group came to dominate the KLA, and seized control of “most of the illicit criminal enterprises” in which Kosovans were involved south of the border, in Albania.

Big monkey attacks Saudi school

A big monkey descended from a mountain, sneaked into a primary girls school in Saudi Arabia and wreaked havoc inside the building after biting one student, the Arabic language daily Alriyadh reported on Wednesday.
The monkey, which the paper said looks like a gorilla, then chased other students and teachers, causing panic and triggering screams by hundreds of people inside the school in the sacred city of Makkah.
“The screams caused the monkey to run away while the bitten student was taken to hospital,” the paper said, adding that the monkey had apparently come from the nearby mountains, home to many species of animals.

Mosque did not inform police of Sweden bomber’s radical views

The Luton mosque where Swedish suicide bomber Taimur Abdulwahab al-Abdaly worshipped did not tell police about his radical views, despite expelling him from the centre, Channel 4 News has learned.
Chairman of Luton Islamic Centre, Qadeer Baksh kicked out al-Abdaly, 28, who is suspected of blowing himself up on a busy shopping street in Stockholm on Saturday, around three years ago, after he presented radical interpretations of the Koran.
But Mr Baksh, who is known as a moderate Muslim and an anti-extremist figurehead in the community, said that he did not inform the police or Mi5, because he did not believe that al-Abdaly was capable of terrorist acts.
He said: “It was the general public, worshippers, that brought it to the committee’s attention that there was someone in here teaching something that is alien to Islam – extremist views.
“So I went and I faced him. I challenged his thoughts and his ideas and we got into a theological debate.
“This continued for a few days but every time I left him, I believed that he was now content with my interpretation, my explanation, and that he was misguided.”

German authorities on Tuesday mounted raids against two Islamist groups suspected of seeking to overthrow the government and establish a religious state, the Interior Ministry said.
The searches targeted homes and religious schools linked to Salafist jihadist group Invitation to Paradise (EZP) in the northwestern cities of Braunschweig and Mönchengladbach, and the Islamic Cultural Center Bremen (IKZB) in northern German port.
