The backers of the Ground Zero Mosque have virtually no money, one of the group’s leaders says, and plan to create another nonprofit organization that would further complicate the already labyrinthine financial network surrounding the project.
Daisy Khan, one of the leaders of the project, told supporters over the weekend that the mosques organizers have “nothing in the bank” for their effort. Khan said there is no money and that she doesn’t know of anything that has been raised.
Tracing the money going to the two nonprofit groups led by Khan and her husband and partner in the mosque project, Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf, requires a world map.

Johansson had the chance during the Weinthal interview to distance himself from the translation of the word he used, “scum state”, throughout the interview, he’s now saying after the fact that it was taken out of context, with the design to blow things out of proportion. But (a) he refused to challenge the journalist who used the term more than once when questioning about it (I hear it was around 10 times) and (b) spoke of using similar highly charged wording when directing it against GWBush and others to prove he’s used vitriolic statements before while (c) then claiming later on that he hadn’t meant to offend anyone by the term.
He’s a disingenuous liar and anti-Israel bigot who issues anti-Semitic blurbs when he thinks the coast is clear and no one is looking (meaning anyone outside of Finland). He was caught red handed, and now is trying to back peddle without issuing an apology. How can such an organization expect to be recognized as credible, while they have such people at the helm? This is going to get even more interesting. KGS
NOTE: The fact that AI London employed the term “scum state” in Benny Weinthal’s latest report shows that AI agrees with the translation or at least understands that the phrase carries that meaning.
‘Israel is a scum state’ removed from Finnish paper’s site

BERLIN – A blog entry in a Finnish newspaper’s Web site by the head of country’s Amnesty International branch, Frank Johansson, which termed Israel a “scum state,” is no longer online following an inquiry into the matter by The Jerusalem Post.
Speaking from Helsinki, Asmo Halinnen, head of Iltalehti’s Web section, told the Post Wednesday that “he [Johansson] removed the blog post,” adding that “All of the blog writings on our site are the opinion of the writer.”
When asked if there is a policy barring anti-Semitic and racist blogs, Halinnen referred the query to Iltalehti’s editor-in-chief, Kari Kivelä . The top editor did not immediately reply to an e-mail query and telephone call.
The Post reported Wednesday about the blog, which prompted a flurry of activity at AI’s headquarters in London.
In an e-mail to the Post on Wednesday, Johansson wrote, “I decided to take down my blog because I appreciate that my comments were ill-judged and appear all the more so when taken out of context, and have obviously caused offence to many people although it was not my intention, at all, to cause such offence.”
He added “I am especially conscious, and regret that my ill-judged action may be detrimental to Amnesty International’s work on Israel and the Occupied Palestinian Territories and the valiant human rights work being undertaken by my colleagues working for Amnesty International in Israel.”
Amnesty spokeswoman Susanna Flood said, “Johansson remains as the director of Amnesty International in Finland.
“Obviously, we regret it if such a term was used by an individual whose personal views could be misunderstood as reflecting those of Amnesty International, and we disassociate Amnesty International fully and clearly from such comments and we are making this clear to Mr Johansson,” Flood told the Post. “Amnesty International has never described Israel as a ‘scum state’ or used any such terms to describe Israel,” she added.
Finnish media watchdog site, Tundra Tabloids, which exposed the blog on Monday, said that the post’s removal was “not good enough, there needs to be a full apology coming from AI chairman Frank Johansson.”

Khuram Sher auditioned for season 6 of Canadian Idol. Sher was detained Aug. 26, 2010 as part of an RCMP national security investigation.
OTTAWA—A third terrorism suspect– one who moonwalked across a Montreal stage during an audition for Canadian Idol – was detained early Thursday.
Khuram Sher was arrested as part of an RCMP national security investigation, as police continue to investigate a possible cell allegedly plotting to attack targets at home.
Sher told judges on the popular reality show in 2008 that he hailed from Pakistan and was a fan of “hockey, music and acting.”
He sings an off-tune rendition of Avril Lavigne’s “Complicated” with – as the show’s website describes – some “nifty” dance moves.
“Have you ever thought of being a comedian?” asks one of the judges of the 26-year-old.
Another remarks: “The dance moves were good, the singing, bad.”
One source close to the investigation said Sher was actually a Canadian-born physician and graduate of McGill University – quite a different persona from goofy contestant wearing a traditional Pakistani shalwar kameez and pakul hat as he performs robot dance moves and a Michael Jackson moonwalk.
Early Wednesday, two other alleged members of a group police believe were trying to form a local terrorism cell were arrested in Ottawa.
Ottawa’s Integrated National Security Enforcement Team had been tracking the men for months and one of the suspects is alleged to have ties to high-level Al Qaeda affiliates abroad, sources close to the case told the Toronto Star.
Known as “Project Samosa,” the RCMP investigation reportedly began with intelligence passed on by the Canadian Security Intelligence Service.
The plot involved Canadian targets but was not “specific,” said a police source, adding that the arrests happened quickly since one suspect was planning to travel abroad. The alleged ringleader had reportedly travelled earlier to the border region between Pakistan and Afghanistan in search of training.
The RCMP released only a short statement Wednesday confirming that the two Ottawa residents were taken into custody at 8 a.m. and that “search warrants are being executed in order to secure additional evidence.”
A news conference in Ottawa is scheduled for Thursday.
A source confirmed Wednesday that Misbahuddin Ahmed, listed as owning a car seized by police, was one of the accused. The name of the second suspect, Hiva Ali Zadeb, was disclosed Thursday by his Ottawa lawyer, Oliver Aberjel.
Ahmed had worked for two years as a general radiography technologist at Ottawa’s Hospital Civic Campus.
Guy Morency, the hospital’s director of diagnostic imaging, told the Star in an interview that Ahmed was a “stellar technologist.”
“We’ve had no complaints about him,” he said.
Morency said he had only met Ahmed a couple of times in meetings and described him as rather “nondescript.” But he did recall that Ahmed was able to provide “excellent” references from Montreal before he was hired.
“We were very pleased with what we heard and received and he has proven himself since.”
Morency, who was on vacation this week, said he would go into the hospital Thursday to speak with the department’s employees.
“Obviously this is going to be upsetting for a lot of people.”
Neighbours living on the west-end cul-de-sac where the 26-year-old suspect lived with his wife and baby said the raid was shocking.
“I live two doors down. It’s very scary,” said neighbour Janice Burtt.
Burtt said she believed the young Muslim couple had lived in the townhouse for about six months.
“I’d wave and say hello but I don’t think they gestured to me at all,” she said.
Nathan Aubie, who lived beside Ahmed, said he had only seen the couple three or four times but that “they seemed like friendly people.”
A second location, a seven-storey apartment complex about five kilometres away, was also raided early Wednesday. The windows of the apartment police searched were covered with patterned embroidery and five police cruisers still idled outside the building late in the day.
Some within Canada’s Muslim community said they were angered by Wednesday’s arrests, while others cautioned against indicting the accused before any evidence is known.
Salma Siddiqui, the Muslim Canadian Congress vice-president said in a telephone interview that he was “livid and frustrated” that young Muslim men were still being seduced by the idea of fighting a holy war in the name of Islam.
“It has to stop,” he said.
“Why are they not understanding that this is not acceptable? Why are they still going on accepting the doctrine of jihad? That is the where the whole problem is.”
It is the second time since 9/11 that an RCMP Integrated National Security Enforcement Team has arrested a group of Canadian suspects planning to strike at home.
In June 2006, a group of young Muslim men dubbed the Toronto 18 were rounded up and prosecuted for plotting to attack downtown targets and a military base north of the city.
Of the 18 who were charged — 14 adults and four youths — 11 were eventually convicted. Charges against seven of the accused were dropped.
Zakaria Amara, one of the group’s ringleaders, pleaded guilty last year, confessing that he had been developing a series of bombs for the attacks that he hoped would force Canada out of Afghanistan. He was given a life sentence.
The case was seen as a wake-up call for Canadians and heralded as a successful test of the country’s anti-terrorism laws, which were introduced after 9/11. It was also held up as a model of co-operation between the Mounties and CSIS — organizations that had been plagued for years by mistrust and rivalry.
Critics of the Toronto18 case accused the RCMP of casting the net too wide and questioned whether police informants inside the group had unduly influenced the suspects.
While there are no known ties between the Ottawa suspects and those arrested in Toronto, the cases may have similarities in the way they were investigated — and play out in court.
Some of the details in the case hint that police will present a case of what’s commonly called “homegrown terrorism,” meaning Canadian citizens who become radicalized in the West and then often seek connections and training abroad.
Reacting to the arrests, a spokesperson for Public Safety Minister Vic Toews said the case shows “Canada is not immune from international or homegrown radicalization.”
“Our government monitors national security concerns and is vigilant in protecting against any threats,” spokesperson Christopher McCluskey said.
“As for operational security matters, and matters currently under police investigation, we cannot further comment at this time.”

As reported by the New York Post’s Tom Topoussis on June 19, 2010, Imam Feisal Rauf repeatedly declined to acknowledge, unequivocally, that Hamas is a terrorist organization, despite its formal designation as such by the US State Department, in these words:
Hamas terrorists, especially those in the Izz al-Din al-Qassam Brigades, have conducted many attacks, including large-scale suicide bombings, against Israeli civilian and military targets
Asked by WABC radio interviewer Aaron Klein whether he agreed with the State Department’s assessment, Imam Rauf stated, “Look, I’m not a politician. The issue of terrorism is a very complex question.” When Klein persisted, asking Rauf again for his view on Hamas, the imam, now exasperated, still refused to agree openly with the State Department’s apt designation.
I contend that Rauf’s repeated refusal to acknowledge that Hamas is indeed a terrorist organization—jihad terror being Hamas’ specific abiding ideology—is entirely consistent with his own documented lionization of well-known fundamentalist Muslim jurists such as Ibn Taymiyyah (d. 1328), and the founder of modern Wahhabism, Muhammad ibn Abd-al-Wahhab (d. 1792). Moreover, Rauf praises the contemporary cleric Yusuf al-Qaradawi—Spiritual Leader of the Muslim Brotherhood, immensely popular Al-Jazeera television savant on the Sharia, and in whose name the government of Qatar recently created the Al-Qaradawi Centre for Islamic Moderation—as “…probably the most well-known legal authority in the whole Muslim world today.” But perhaps most importantly, Rauf’s continued close association with, and nurturing by former Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Muhammad, also comports with the imam’s adamant refusal to acknowledge Hamas’ ethos of jihad terror. The Ground Zero Mosque Protest: What the MSM Chose to Ignore

Approximately a thousand people turned up at Park Place on August 22, to demonstrate against the proposed construction of a 15-storey Islamic center to be located two blocks from Ground Zero. Packed tightly into little more than one street block, demonstrators waved American flags, held up pictures of loved-ones killed in the al-Qaeda attacks of 9/11/2001, and placards saying “No” to the “Ground Zero mosque” and “No” to Sharia Law. Now and again, throughout the day, these were joined by umbrellas as the hot, humid day broke into showers.
Speakers at the demonstration emphasized that freedom of religion was not at issue. The point of the demonstration was to protest the location, and to ask for sensitivity for those still grieving.
Undoubtedly the speakers did not fit the narrative the mainstream media wanted, and have been pressing home for the last couple of weeks: “Islamophobia” is rampant and dangerous. Daisy Kahn, one of the organizers of the proposed Islamic center, told ABC News recently that the backlash “is like a metastasized anti-Semitism. It’s not even Islamophobia, it’s beyond Islamophobia – it’s hate of Muslims.”
If the media really were concerned about a wave of anti-Muslim feeling, why not show the speakers, the majority of whom emphasized their solidarity with Muslims who love America, democracy, and liberty? Surely their voices, and their references to democracy-loving Muslims, would help to quash any “hate”. Continue Reading →
Sweden Democrats publish report on rape

The Sweden Democrats presented a report on Wednesday showing that of 114 convictions for rape in 2009, 48 percent involved men born outside Sweden.
“This sample is less than half of the court rulings last year,” said Klara Hradilova Selin at The National Council for Crime Prevention (Brå) which compiles official statistics on crimes committed and reported in Sweden.
The Sweden Democrats have gone through 114 district court rulings from 2009 in cases of rape or aggravated rape. 48 percent (or 55 cases) of the convicted rapists were born outside of Sweden, with 39.5 percent of the total born outside of Europe.
The 55 convictions constitute an over representation of overseas-born as a group. There were 648,426 overseas-born males registered as resident in Sweden in 2009 of a population of 9.34 million. Continue Reading →

Below, is the video from which that screen shot was taken. Keep in mind, that while this is systemic in as much as the state itself imposes these charges, in Spain, France and other nations where Muslims reach a certain critical mass, sharia law to one degree or another is imposed on the Islamic community by appointed sharia police and somewhat unabashedly. In fact, many Canadian Imams have been quoted as saying they will obey Canadian law so long as it does not conflict with Islamic ones, which of course, they do in pretty much any and every meaningful way.

A civil war is raging in Islam; if the US is to be spared the social problems already shaking much of Europe, its politicians and media must take the more difficult course of engaging those Muslims who want to support democracy and liberty, while sidelining those who do not – or who want democracy so long it allows them to agitate for just a little more sharia, and a few more accommodations to hard-line views.
These thoughts, current after 9/11, seem to have quietly slipped from the debate over Islam and democracy, perhaps because the West’s self-appointed opinion-makers prefer to avoid unpleasant issues and hard truths concerning anything non-Western, and perhaps because this “civil war” is also being waged among those who claim to speak for Western civilization.
Increasingly since 9/11, many have seized on the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq to portray the US as the main obstacle to “peace” (meaning surrender). Nevertheless, if much of the European press, and the left-wing press in the US, repeatedly attempted to portray President George W. Bush as a man lacking subtlety of mind, and the “war on terror” as a war against Muslims or Islam, the president himself was always careful to stress that the enemy were those who rejected democracy in favor of a medieval legal system that regarded women as second class citizens, and included such barbaric practices as stoning. “Islamo-fascism” was articulated as a radical strain of Islam, rejected by “moderates,” who were, and are, regarded as apostates by the Islamo-fascists, and, as such, sentenced to death in absentia. Canadian Muslim leaders were variously stunned, outraged and wary at news from Ottawa on Wednesday that the RCMP had broken up an alleged terrorism cell with suspected links to al-Qaeda.
Few details were released about the people rounded up in the bust, but they are suspected of planning a terrorist attack in the country, and authorities anticipate more arrests.
“It’s sad to hear such news. It’s disturbing,” said Imam Habeeb Alli, secretary of the Canadian Council of Imams. “It’s very disturbing, and I hope the proper wheels of justice will be set in motion to ensure we get to the bottom of the story.”

Two arrested in Ottawa after multiple raids in al Qaeda terror probe
OTTAWA — Police in Ottawa have arrested two men in connection with an alleged al-Qaeda-related terrorism plot, and initiated the search of a second property.
Police officers entered an apartment in a building at 220 Woodridge Cres. in the city’s Bayshore area. The person registered as living in apartment 702 is believed to be named Ahmed Ehsan. Little else is known about him at this time.
There were also indications that further police searches were taking place including across the Ottawa River in Gatineau.
The arrests occurred Wednesday at a house at 91 Esterlawn Pvt., near the intersection of Woodroffe and Carling avenues. Officers from the RCMP and Ottawa police raided the house at about 7 a.m.
The RCMP said in a press release that they were executing a number of search warrants and additional arrests are expected.
Anthony Seaboyer, head of the proliferation security research group at Queen’s University’s Centre for International Relations, called the arrests “a great success” for Canadian anti-terrorism forces.
“It shows that the RCMP, Ottawa police and CSIS can actually co-operate effectively,” Seaboyer said.
Given the scathing criticism of how security authorities handled the Air India bombing, “this is a good sign,” he said.
“Canada is moving more and more away from being a safe haven for terrorist organizations.”
On the other hand, Seaboyer said, “it shows what’s now going on out there. We have now found one group, but what else is out there?”
It’s impossible to know how many terrorism cells are active in Canada, Seaboyer said, but those arrested Wednesday are “definitely not the only group out there, that’s for sure.” Continue Reading →
RCMP arrest 2 in Ottawa on ‘terrorist offences’
CBC…The RCMP say they have arrested two Ottawa residents and expect to make more arrests in relation to what they describe as “terrorist offences.”
The RCMP’s national security enforcement team arrested two people at 8 a.m. Wednesday and search warrants are being executed, the police force said in a release.
Police sources have told the CBC two men were arrested early in the morning at a residence on Esterlawn Private, a street in the Carlingwood area.
The arrests were made in relation to plans that were in the developing stages and had yet to be executed, police sources told the CBC.
Police said they expect to arrest at least one other person.
No further details were provided. A news conference is scheduled for Thursday afternoon.
